And the bigger lessons, 00:04:06.719 --> 00:04:11.099 it's not crazy to think that some of these lessons 00:04:11.099 --> 00:04:12.599 are going to span over decades. Yeah, so you're 00:04:12.599 --> 00:04:14.460 16 years that you're talking about. I'm like, 00:04:14.500 --> 00:04:17.139 wow, that's something that you were taught over 00:04:17.139 --> 00:04:19.220 that amount of time and that's amazing. No, that's cramming. And then you kind of come up off of that 00:04:38.879 --> 00:04:40.579 and you look back and you're like, okay, he gave 00:04:40.579 --> 00:04:42.959 it to me. And I had, I had these experiences 00:04:42.959 --> 00:04:45.139 in bite -sized enough doses that I'm not dead. 00:04:45.560 --> 00:04:48.600 I'm not dead. I thought of people close to me 00:04:48.600 --> 00:04:50.660 and the things that they've endured and have 00:04:50.660 --> 00:04:53.970 changed. those very people into who they are 00:04:53.970 --> 00:04:56.269 now. Those experiences have proved and strengthened 00:04:56.269 --> 00:04:58.430 them. They are an example to me of exactly how 00:04:58.430 --> 00:05:02.129 this process works. Absolutely. President Eyring 00:05:02.129 --> 00:05:04.029 described feeling overwhelmed and discouraged 00:05:04.029 --> 00:05:06.129 while he was studying physics and mathematics, 00:05:06.689 --> 00:05:11.629 and I felt his pain on that. And then knowing 00:05:11.629 --> 00:05:13.569 who he is, I'm like, oh my gosh, he's sharing 00:05:13.569 --> 00:05:15.649 a point of vulnerability. He was believing that 00:05:15.649 --> 00:05:18.430 these subjects were beyond his ability and considering 00:05:18.430 --> 00:05:21.370 quitting. In his weakness, he prayed, felt a 00:05:21.370 --> 00:05:23.529 quiet assurance and comfort from the Lord. He 00:05:23.529 --> 00:05:26.509 said, I felt him say to me and to my mind, I 00:05:26.509 --> 00:05:29.750 am proving you, but I am also with you." Oh, 00:05:29.910 --> 00:05:32.230 I love those words so much. Though it was hard 00:05:32.230 --> 00:05:35.910 to know that those words, what they completely 00:05:35.910 --> 00:05:38.310 meant in that moment, the message he understood 00:05:38.310 --> 00:05:42.029 was get to work. And again, not a blip in time. 00:05:42.230 --> 00:05:44.449 This was his entire education. It was fairly 00:05:44.449 --> 00:05:47.350 early on. So we know that this is going to last 00:05:47.350 --> 00:05:50.370 over a period of years. There's a building named 00:05:50.370 --> 00:05:54.290 after him for heaven's sake. Reflecting back, 00:05:54.310 --> 00:05:56.569 he's able to see how that very struggle with 00:05:56.569 --> 00:05:59.170 physics was actually a gift from the Lord. In 00:05:59.170 --> 00:06:02.209 the test, Elder Eyring learned that alone, he 00:06:02.209 --> 00:06:04.870 was not capable of the challenges of his education, 00:06:04.870 --> 00:06:08.050 but with the help of the Lord, he was successful. 00:06:08.870 --> 00:06:11.689 New theme for 2025 was, I can do all things through 00:06:11.689 --> 00:06:14.110 Christ who has strengthened me. And he shares 00:06:14.110 --> 00:06:18.009 that. in this powerful talk, because it is a 00:06:18.009 --> 00:06:20.949 lesson to all of us. Well, it can be a lesson 00:06:20.949 --> 00:06:22.730 to all of us. It's one that he learned all those 00:06:22.730 --> 00:06:25.149 years ago. There'll be things that we face in 00:06:25.149 --> 00:06:28.329 life that are challenging and well above our 00:06:28.329 --> 00:06:30.930 own abilities. And I think that it's very cool 00:06:30.930 --> 00:06:33.550 when we recognize those things that are beyond 00:06:33.550 --> 00:06:37.750 us, above us, not to our capacity. When we recognize 00:06:37.750 --> 00:06:40.550 those, we verbalize like, this is not something 00:06:40.550 --> 00:06:43.129 that I can do. But then we get to work and we 00:06:43.129 --> 00:06:49.060 act in faith. We become entitled to this heavenly 00:06:49.060 --> 00:06:51.680 help as we're setting about, as we're trying. 00:06:52.600 --> 00:06:55.939 He is right there with us. Let's look at the different 00:07:06.250 --> 00:07:08.769 meanings of the word prove. Oh my gosh, I love 00:07:08.769 --> 00:07:11.410 when he went into this so much. So to prove something 00:07:11.410 --> 00:07:14.230 is not simply to test it. To prove is to strengthen. 00:07:14.670 --> 00:07:16.730 And then he talks about steel. To prove a piece 00:07:16.730 --> 00:07:19.529 of steel is to place it under strain. Heat, weight, 00:07:19.529 --> 00:07:22.110 and pressure are added until its true nature 00:07:22.110 --> 00:07:24.129 is enhanced and revealed. And this is my favorite 00:07:24.129 --> 00:07:27.149 part. Sometimes 00:07:56.839 --> 00:07:58.439 it's hard to think of that in the moment because 00:07:58.439 --> 00:08:00.579 you're like, no, I'm at capacity. There is no 00:08:00.579 --> 00:08:02.420 more. And then you look back and you're like, 00:08:02.560 --> 00:08:06.139 wow, I've grown so much. That one thing was crumbling 00:08:06.139 --> 00:08:09.000 me then. Now I could do 10 of those things because 00:08:09.000 --> 00:08:12.569 I am strengthened. I can be trusted. I can bear 00:08:12.569 --> 00:08:15.410 greater burdens because of God. Yep. All right. 00:08:15.410 --> 00:08:17.689 Not even going to add any words to that. I'm seeing my life flash before me. 00:08:20.449 --> 00:08:22.470 I'm thinking of people that have gone through 00:08:22.470 --> 00:08:24.310 their trials and I think that would have broken 00:08:24.310 --> 00:08:27.129 me. Well, it didn't break them because they had 00:08:27.129 --> 00:08:28.930 things in their life that were preparatory that 00:08:28.930 --> 00:08:32.169 let them prepare for this next bigger thing. 00:08:32.330 --> 00:08:35.710 And again, they were able to just definitely 00:08:35.710 --> 00:08:38.970 endure with the help of God. Just like steel 00:08:38.970 --> 00:08:41.929 needs heat, weight, and pressure, the Lord Proves 00:08:41.929 --> 00:08:44.370 us much the same way to strengthen us as you 00:08:44.370 --> 00:08:46.970 can imagine Proving does not come in moments 00:08:46.970 --> 00:08:50.690 of ease and comfort Unfortunately, it comes in 00:08:50.690 --> 00:08:52.509 moments when we feel stretched beyond what we 00:08:52.509 --> 00:08:54.710 thought we could bear because he Promises to 00:08:54.710 --> 00:08:56.629 be with us and support us in those difficult 00:08:56.629 --> 00:08:59.190 moments if we're to grow in the process We must 00:08:59.190 --> 00:09:02.929 continue the course and never give up. Mm -hmm 00:09:02.929 --> 00:09:06.690 It is in this sense or in these moments when 00:09:06.690 --> 00:09:08.889 our efforts have hit their absolute maximum, 00:09:09.210 --> 00:09:11.350 when things might feel impossible, and if we 00:09:11.350 --> 00:09:13.990 just have faith in Jesus Christ, or hold onto 00:09:13.990 --> 00:09:18.470 that, what is it, my thoughts held, gosh, Alma 00:09:18.470 --> 00:09:23.009 says something like, my thoughts went out to 00:09:23.009 --> 00:09:25.049 that one Jesus, and I just love that. When he 00:09:25.049 --> 00:09:27.590 thinks of him and holds onto his words, it is 00:09:27.590 --> 00:09:30.730 in these moments that we become spiritually stronger. 00:09:31.269 --> 00:09:33.529 Let's look to examples in the scriptures that 00:09:33.529 --> 00:09:35.350 have emphasized this truth. So we're going to 00:09:35.350 --> 00:09:38.289 talk about Moroni. He endured extreme loneliness, 00:09:38.570 --> 00:09:40.830 loss, and persecution, yet he did not despair. 00:09:40.909 --> 00:09:42.350 Every time I come to this part of the Book of 00:09:42.350 --> 00:09:44.929 Mormon, my heart goes out to him and I say like 00:09:44.929 --> 00:09:47.570 a special prayer. I say, Heavenly Father, thank 00:09:47.570 --> 00:09:51.769 you for Moroni. Thank you for giving him the 00:09:51.769 --> 00:09:53.549 strength and the courage to do what he did because 00:09:53.549 --> 00:09:55.950 that is a holy thing and I do not know anything 00:09:55.950 --> 00:10:00.740 about it. So lonely. Right? of giving into despair, 00:10:01.059 --> 00:10:03.220 he faithfully recorded his testimony of Jesus 00:10:03.220 --> 00:10:06.200 Christ for future generations, for us. Even knowing 00:10:06.200 --> 00:10:08.559 that some would reject, some would mock his words, 00:10:08.840 --> 00:10:11.840 through his trials, his faith was refined and 00:10:11.840 --> 00:10:15.179 strengthened. And his testimony now powerfully 00:10:15.179 --> 00:10:18.120 invites, I would say it lives, it's a living 00:10:18.120 --> 00:10:21.000 testimony now, and it invites all people to seek 00:10:21.000 --> 00:10:22.860 truth through sincere prayer and through the 00:10:22.860 --> 00:10:25.149 Holy Ghost. How many of us? have been blessed 00:10:25.149 --> 00:10:27.110 by the work that has been done by the hands of 00:10:27.110 --> 00:10:30.929 that man with the help of the Lord. I don't 00:10:48.429 --> 00:10:50.950 think those often pair with the challenges that 00:10:50.950 --> 00:10:53.909 I'm gonna face, but when you said that, that 00:10:53.909 --> 00:10:56.629 spiritually you can be, like almost become stronger 00:10:56.629 --> 00:10:59.929 in a moment of time, in a blip, where it's more 00:10:59.929 --> 00:11:02.929 finite material. And like, if I just say, I don't 00:11:02.929 --> 00:11:05.269 know how I'm gonna get through this, but my spirit's 00:11:05.269 --> 00:11:06.909 saying, we're gonna do this, I'm gonna pair with 00:11:06.909 --> 00:11:09.230 you, we're gonna do this thing together. Somehow 00:11:09.230 --> 00:11:12.940 he helped my physical body catch up. to those 00:11:12.940 --> 00:11:15.019 things that my spirit's like ready to fight the 00:11:15.019 --> 00:11:18.960 fight for. So good. So I love that. Jacob experienced 00:11:18.960 --> 00:11:21.379 sorrow and affliction from a young age. Another 00:11:21.379 --> 00:11:24.179 scripture example of this proving and strengthening. 00:11:24.639 --> 00:11:27.159 So his father, Lehi, taught him that God would 00:11:27.159 --> 00:11:29.679 consecrate those trials for his benefit. So through 00:11:29.679 --> 00:11:31.580 knowing God's greatness and trusting in the Redeemer, 00:11:31.820 --> 00:11:33.519 Jacob was strengthened, blessed, and devoted 00:11:33.519 --> 00:11:35.919 his life to serving God with the assurance of 00:11:35.919 --> 00:11:38.799 redemption. Didn't take the hard things away 00:11:38.799 --> 00:11:41.240 by trusting in God, it allowed him to do those 00:11:41.240 --> 00:11:43.820 hard things with God. Exactly, which is exactly 00:11:43.820 --> 00:11:48.100 what he said at the beginning. I am proving you. 00:11:48.279 --> 00:11:52.259 But I am also with you. So sweet. Prophet Joseph 00:11:52.259 --> 00:11:55.279 Smith is also an example of being proved and 00:11:55.279 --> 00:11:57.919 strengthened, specifically when he was in Liberty 00:11:57.919 --> 00:12:03.980 Jail. One thing in this talk that I did agree 00:12:03.980 --> 00:12:06.279 that Liberty Jail was probably the especially 00:12:06.279 --> 00:12:08.919 difficult moment in his time, but I sat for a 00:12:08.919 --> 00:12:11.039 moment and I thought about the endless trials 00:12:11.039 --> 00:12:13.879 Joseph faced every step of the way. All of it 00:12:13.879 --> 00:12:16.559 was a refining process as a means of restoring 00:12:16.559 --> 00:12:20.759 the gospel of Jesus Christ. it was done through 00:12:20.759 --> 00:12:24.419 so much proving and strengthening. But Liberty 00:12:24.419 --> 00:12:27.500 Jail, I think we all can agree was like part 00:12:27.500 --> 00:12:29.980 of the depths of his anguish can be seen there 00:12:29.980 --> 00:12:32.460 in Liberty Jail. The Prophet Joseph cried out, 00:12:32.580 --> 00:12:34.940 Oh God, where art thou? How long shall thy hand 00:12:34.940 --> 00:12:37.139 be stayed? The Lord saw in Joseph's suffering 00:12:37.139 --> 00:12:39.639 the sanctifying effect of his enduring it well 00:12:39.639 --> 00:12:43.049 when he replied this, My son, Peace be unto thy 00:12:43.049 --> 00:12:45.149 soul. Thine adversity and thine afflictions shall 00:12:45.149 --> 00:12:47.669 be but a small moment. And then, if thou endure 00:12:47.669 --> 00:12:50.590 it well, God shall exalt thee on high. Thou shalt 00:12:50.590 --> 00:12:54.149 triumph over all thy foes." Such comforting words. 00:12:54.649 --> 00:12:57.350 I love it too, because as the Spirit brought 00:12:57.350 --> 00:13:00.210 this message to his heart, I believe also he 00:13:00.210 --> 00:13:02.629 said it quite a few times, I have been called 00:13:02.629 --> 00:13:06.720 to walk through. deep waters, you know? I think 00:13:06.720 --> 00:13:08.820 he just understood that was part of it. Like 00:13:08.820 --> 00:13:10.980 you said, it wasn't just Liberty Jail. It was 00:13:10.980 --> 00:13:14.460 his whole life, right? Now, speaking about someone 00:13:14.460 --> 00:13:16.600 who faced endless trials in this life, we can 00:13:16.600 --> 00:13:18.940 look to our one and only Savior and the example 00:13:18.940 --> 00:13:20.919 of His life leading right up to the Savior's 00:13:20.919 --> 00:13:23.240 Atonement. He took upon Him the sins of the world. 00:13:23.759 --> 00:13:26.080 He bore our pains and our sorrows. He drank the 00:13:26.080 --> 00:13:28.379 bitter cup. He proved faithful in every moment. 00:13:28.539 --> 00:13:31.570 And it was in this very act. of the glorious 00:13:31.570 --> 00:13:33.669 Atonement, that he understands perfectly how 00:13:33.669 --> 00:13:37.549 we feel in our own trials and why he wants to 00:13:37.549 --> 00:13:40.029 support us in every way and how he can succor 00:13:40.029 --> 00:13:42.850 us. It's because he felt all the challenges, 00:13:43.370 --> 00:13:45.889 all the pain, everything that we will ever feel 00:13:45.889 --> 00:13:48.309 in mortality. He will take upon him the pains 00:13:48.309 --> 00:13:51.149 and the sicknesses of his people that he may 00:13:51.149 --> 00:13:54.110 know how. or that he may know according to the 00:13:54.110 --> 00:13:56.370 flesh how to succor his people according to their 00:13:56.370 --> 00:13:58.870 infirmities. He did that. He knows how to help 00:13:58.870 --> 00:14:01.610 because he's felt every single pain. We know 00:14:01.610 --> 00:14:04.149 that the Savior reached the end of what he thought 00:14:04.149 --> 00:14:06.669 was his own breaking point when he asked his 00:14:06.669 --> 00:14:10.789 Father to remove this cup.
