God knew 00:00:42.390 --> 00:00:44.450 what his children needed to hear and fill in 00:00:44.450 --> 00:00:47.340 their hearts. And I say this because... In the 00:00:47.340 --> 00:00:50.100 middle of conference and between sessions, you 00:00:50.100 --> 00:00:52.219 know how people will capture a cute little quote 00:00:52.219 --> 00:00:54.299 from the talk and they'll put it out? Hundreds 00:00:54.299 --> 00:00:57.039 of comments went up under that. This talk was 00:00:57.039 --> 00:01:00.960 for me. They were speaking to me. And it's one of those that I'll just 00:01:14.870 --> 00:01:16.730 like keep at the back of my mind when I'm going 00:01:16.730 --> 00:01:19.329 through something particular. And I've shared 00:01:19.329 --> 00:01:20.709 this talk with two different people that are 00:01:20.709 --> 00:01:22.810 going through things. And I thought of multiple 00:01:22.810 --> 00:01:24.909 friends and family as this talk was going. So 00:01:24.909 --> 00:01:28.069 it just resonated. So let's get right into it. 00:01:28.109 --> 00:01:30.349 President Johnson started with a story we've 00:01:30.349 --> 00:01:33.049 heard before. In her words, 10 lepers hollered 00:01:33.049 --> 00:01:35.730 to the Savior, have mercy on us. And Jesus did. 00:01:35.849 --> 00:01:37.730 He told them to show themselves to the priest. 00:01:38.430 --> 00:01:40.549 And as they went, they were cleansed of their 00:01:40.549 --> 00:01:42.930 disease. And one of them, when he saw that he 00:01:42.930 --> 00:01:45.670 was healed, shouted praises to God. He returned 00:01:45.670 --> 00:01:47.849 to the Savior, fell at his feet, and expressed 00:01:47.849 --> 00:01:50.969 gratitude. And the Savior said to him who was 00:01:50.969 --> 00:01:54.849 thankful, Thy faith hath made thee whole. Did 00:01:54.849 --> 00:01:57.269 you have some thoughts from that, Amy? So many 00:01:57.269 --> 00:02:00.530 thoughts, Abby. You know, as far as the ten lepers 00:02:00.530 --> 00:02:03.250 story goes, I've thought of those nine lepers 00:02:03.250 --> 00:02:06.090 many times in my life as to why they did not. 00:02:06.599 --> 00:02:09.439 Turn around and say thanks to Jesus. Partly, 00:02:09.439 --> 00:02:11.599 though, because he told them what to do. He told 00:02:11.599 --> 00:02:14.479 them exactly what he wanted done. Sometimes it's 00:02:14.479 --> 00:02:17.500 thinking outside of the box of what he asks you 00:02:17.500 --> 00:02:19.560 to do. I know. That the greatest miracles happen. 00:02:19.759 --> 00:02:22.020 Yeah. Anyway. And I mean, it's true. Like, over 00:02:22.020 --> 00:02:24.199 the years, I've had so many different versions 00:02:24.199 --> 00:02:26.580 or variations of what may have happened. And 00:02:26.580 --> 00:02:28.960 on this pass, on this talk, I felt the Spirit 00:02:28.960 --> 00:02:31.879 teach me something new. Just a what if. What 00:02:31.879 --> 00:02:34.840 if in their minds. They had received all that 00:02:34.840 --> 00:02:37.060 Jesus had. Like you said, they did exactly what 00:02:37.060 --> 00:02:38.979 they were supposed to do, right? And to be fair, 00:02:39.060 --> 00:02:42.219 how many times are we one of the nine? Oh, 100%. 00:02:42.219 --> 00:02:44.219 That's kind of why I was asking. I'm like, oh, 00:02:44.240 --> 00:02:45.879 shoot, I could see myself. Have I missed out 00:02:45.879 --> 00:02:49.699 on opportunities? Yes. Yeah. So, yeah, in their 00:02:49.699 --> 00:02:51.699 mind, they'd received all that Jesus had. They 00:02:51.699 --> 00:02:54.479 were so content in this healing that they didn't 00:02:54.479 --> 00:02:57.340 conceive of there being more. And this thought. 00:02:59.020 --> 00:03:02.280 Totally stopped me in my tracks. I think it resonated 00:03:02.280 --> 00:03:05.099 with me too, Abby, is because my prayer is that 00:03:05.099 --> 00:03:07.659 I'm aware enough to know that God is indeed extending 00:03:07.659 --> 00:03:11.020 that miracle and showing mercy. I want to be 00:03:11.020 --> 00:03:13.960 aware not to be content only with a portion of 00:03:13.960 --> 00:03:17.460 his healing. Yes, it would be overwhelming. Could 00:03:17.460 --> 00:03:20.599 you even imagine having anything better than 00:03:20.599 --> 00:03:24.439 like in your own eyes, in real time, there was 00:03:24.439 --> 00:03:26.620 a physical healing. All the symptoms of leprosy 00:03:26.620 --> 00:03:30.139 were gone in an instant. For now, my heart is 00:03:30.139 --> 00:03:32.219 tuned to receiving all that the Father hath, 00:03:32.219 --> 00:03:35.360 and I want spiritual and I want complete healing. 00:03:36.080 --> 00:03:38.460 And so in recent years, I've prayed to keep my 00:03:38.460 --> 00:03:40.840 heart in tune to this by having a constant prayer. 00:03:40.979 --> 00:03:43.139 We've talked about this before, to know when, 00:03:43.180 --> 00:03:46.139 quote, it is finished, right? I feel like it's 00:03:46.139 --> 00:03:47.759 a gift that the Spirit can give. And in this 00:03:47.759 --> 00:03:50.919 case, it would mean when full physical, emotional, 00:03:51.080 --> 00:03:53.860 and spiritual healing had been given by God through 00:03:53.860 --> 00:03:58.379 Christ's atonement. In Jesus's case, when he 00:03:58.379 --> 00:04:01.379 used these words, it was to know how much suffering, 00:04:01.599 --> 00:04:04.500 how much effort, how much of himself needed to 00:04:04.500 --> 00:04:07.560 be given to fulfill his divine atonement. Jesus 00:04:07.560 --> 00:04:09.819 taught an entire sermon with the words when he 00:04:09.819 --> 00:04:12.419 said, it is finished. And I think each of us 00:04:12.419 --> 00:04:15.240 as his disciples could take that into our hearts 00:04:15.240 --> 00:04:20.519 and ask, how can I apply that principle today? 00:04:20.990 --> 00:04:23.589 Awesome. I'm still thinking on the nine. I think 00:04:23.589 --> 00:04:25.829 your thoughts that you shared on the nine others 00:04:25.829 --> 00:04:28.329 are perfect. And I think we've all wondered, 00:04:28.430 --> 00:04:32.189 you know, why didn't they thank Jesus in that 00:04:32.189 --> 00:04:34.449 situation? What's going on for each of them? 00:04:34.529 --> 00:04:37.990 Like I said, maybe they were like his instructions 00:04:37.990 --> 00:04:39.970 were to head to the priest. We headed to the 00:04:39.970 --> 00:04:41.410 priest. Look, we got the healing. We must have 00:04:41.410 --> 00:04:45.930 done exactly what he asked us to do. Jesus Christ 00:04:45.930 --> 00:04:48.689 had healed 10 lepers, but one coming back to 00:04:48.689 --> 00:04:51.470 the Savior received something in addition. He 00:04:51.470 --> 00:04:53.709 was made whole. Nine lepers were physically healed. 00:04:53.829 --> 00:04:56.230 One was physically healed and made spiritually 00:04:56.230 --> 00:04:58.329 whole. I think this part catches everybody's 00:04:58.329 --> 00:05:01.629 attention. It's the distinction that she made 00:05:01.629 --> 00:05:04.310 about the additional blessing. For sure. So, 00:05:04.310 --> 00:05:06.610 you know, she's introducing this talk. She's 00:05:06.610 --> 00:05:10.850 going to unlock for us a new principle or something 00:05:10.850 --> 00:05:13.470 to think about. Additional blessings of being 00:05:13.470 --> 00:05:16.389 made whole. Yeah. Something only the Savior can 00:05:16.389 --> 00:05:19.920 offer. Exactly. He's the one who decides, right? 00:05:19.980 --> 00:05:22.439 I feel like, again, it's agency. And this one 00:05:22.439 --> 00:05:26.939 leper, he offered gratitude in addition with 00:05:26.939 --> 00:05:30.420 his faith, right? The leprosy thing, I mean, 00:05:30.439 --> 00:05:32.319 this is something they've been struggling with 00:05:32.319 --> 00:05:34.360 for years. They've been ostracized. They've been 00:05:34.360 --> 00:05:36.100 shunned from their communities. They've had no 00:05:36.100 --> 00:05:39.120 contact except for themselves. This is a group 00:05:39.120 --> 00:05:41.279 of, they probably become friends because they're 00:05:41.279 --> 00:05:44.939 all each other has. That's a good point. they're 00:05:44.939 --> 00:05:47.040 not healed as they start heading in to go talk 00:05:47.040 --> 00:05:50.100 to the priest. So if you go in, as far as I have 00:05:50.100 --> 00:05:52.120 heard about the lepers or whatever, they'd be 00:05:52.120 --> 00:05:55.519 really punished or whatever. So what they did 00:05:55.519 --> 00:06:00.240 wasn't terrible. They were proceeding on his 00:06:00.240 --> 00:06:02.240 instructions and doing something that was probably 00:06:02.240 --> 00:06:04.540 terrifying because they were going to be picked 00:06:04.540 --> 00:06:06.800 on for doing what they did. That's a good point. 00:06:07.339 --> 00:06:12.439 there can be more. Yes. What additional blessings 00:06:12.439 --> 00:06:14.019 do you see from this? What do you think it unlocks? 00:06:14.439 --> 00:06:17.100 Okay, yes. So for me, I feel like that gratitude, 00:06:17.259 --> 00:06:19.240 it reminded me of some of the study I've done 00:06:19.240 --> 00:06:23.100 in the past few months, is that giving thanks 00:06:23.100 --> 00:06:26.699 is a step in healing. And I hadn't really thought 00:06:26.699 --> 00:06:31.100 of it before very much. I was studying some old... 00:06:31.709 --> 00:06:35.689 talks. And Richard G. Scott gave this in 1992. 00:06:36.129 --> 00:06:39.490 I love this so much. He says, healing is accelerated 00:06:39.490 --> 00:06:43.129 when gratitude is expressed to the Lord for every 00:06:43.129 --> 00:06:46.490 degree of improvement noted. And I mean, we just 00:06:46.490 --> 00:06:49.490 saw that acceleration with what happened with 00:06:49.490 --> 00:06:53.449 this 10th leper, right? He added gratitude to 00:06:53.449 --> 00:06:56.110 the equation and the Lord in his goodness was 00:06:56.110 --> 00:06:58.910 able to bless him with an extended miracle. Do 00:06:58.910 --> 00:07:00.410 you know what's going on in Sister Johnson's 00:07:00.410 --> 00:07:02.810 life that this has been on her mind? I don't. 00:07:02.810 --> 00:07:05.410 Her husband is chronically ill. Interesting. 00:07:05.550 --> 00:07:07.689 And so I'm sure she's seen many miracles along 00:07:07.689 --> 00:07:10.430 the way, but it's not something that she's expecting 00:07:10.430 --> 00:07:14.209 physical healing from. And I don't know, you 00:07:14.209 --> 00:07:16.209 could tell it came from a deep place. Oh, for 00:07:16.209 --> 00:07:20.220 sure, right? Yeah, it resonated with her. Another 00:07:20.220 --> 00:07:22.319 one is gratitude is our sweet acknowledgement 00:07:22.319 --> 00:07:25.379 of the Lord's hand in our lives. It's an expression 00:07:25.379 --> 00:07:27.779 of our faith. That's from Bonnie D. Harkin. And 00:07:27.779 --> 00:07:31.000 then in Thessalonians 5 .18, gratitude is part 00:07:31.000 --> 00:07:33.240 of healing. Give thanks in all circumstances 00:07:33.240 --> 00:07:36.240 for this is God's will for you in Jesus Christ 00:07:36.240 --> 00:07:39.839 or Christ Jesus. It's a pattern of God. When 00:07:39.839 --> 00:07:42.480 we choose to be grateful, God is able to bless 00:07:42.480 --> 00:07:46.250 us with more. She asks a billion -dollar question 00:07:46.250 --> 00:07:49.649 about both wholeness and healing. She says, if 00:07:49.649 --> 00:07:52.689 healing and wholeness are not the same, which 00:07:52.689 --> 00:07:56.550 is so easy to picture in the form of the 10 leper 00:07:56.550 --> 00:08:00.050 scenario, but then everybody was like, oh, this 00:08:00.050 --> 00:08:01.569 is my thing that I'm dealing with, that I've 00:08:01.569 --> 00:08:03.850 chronically been dealing with, or that my family 00:08:03.850 --> 00:08:06.550 or friend has been dealing with. So anyway, if 00:08:06.550 --> 00:08:09.709 healing and wholeness are not the same, can one 00:08:09.709 --> 00:08:13.009 be made spiritually whole by him? but not yet 00:08:13.009 --> 00:08:16.529 physically and emotionally healed. It's amazing. 00:08:16.769 --> 00:08:20.889 And I feel like I haven't heard it exactly said 00:08:20.889 --> 00:08:23.870 that way. In previous podcasts, we've really 00:08:23.870 --> 00:08:27.209 settled. We felt comfortable saying spiritual 00:08:27.209 --> 00:08:32.879 things are... like we would talk about it being 00:08:32.879 --> 00:08:35.220 more fine matter. Yeah. Like all things are created 00:08:35.220 --> 00:08:37.500 spiritually before physically. Uh -huh. So spiritual 00:08:37.500 --> 00:08:39.620 healing. Yes. And so we've talked about some 00:08:39.620 --> 00:08:41.539 of the things that ALU, you have your own fair 00:08:41.539 --> 00:08:43.740 share of chronic illness things to go through 00:08:43.740 --> 00:08:45.960 and that, yeah, you're still waiting for the 00:08:45.960 --> 00:08:48.120 physical part of that to catch up. But in the 00:08:48.120 --> 00:08:51.059 process of allowing him to make you whole spiritually, 00:08:51.320 --> 00:08:54.279 you're kind of more content to wait for the body 00:08:54.279 --> 00:08:56.480 to catch up. I agree. Because he doesn't want 00:08:56.480 --> 00:09:00.259 to be whole. Right? But your gratitude in the 00:09:00.259 --> 00:09:02.679 little piece in the parts, like as he sends the 00:09:02.679 --> 00:09:06.200 right combination of doctors or therapies to 00:09:06.200 --> 00:09:11.460 try, you know, there's a moment to reflect in 00:09:11.460 --> 00:09:13.519 gratitude on that. Absolutely. You can just be 00:09:13.519 --> 00:09:15.200 like, why didn't you just fix me all at once? 00:09:15.440 --> 00:09:17.100 We've talked about this before. It's like maybe 00:09:17.100 --> 00:09:19.440 that therapy didn't exist before. So he can't 00:09:19.440 --> 00:09:23.000 offer that blessing in that moment, but he can 00:09:23.000 --> 00:09:25.879 give you something to aid you in the process. 00:09:25.940 --> 00:09:28.860 And when you look back, on sometimes decades 00:09:28.860 --> 00:09:33.480 multiple decades of pain and suffering if you 00:09:33.480 --> 00:09:35.879 do it with these certain eyes with these you 00:09:35.879 --> 00:09:38.820 know different eyes to see you can see his hand 00:09:38.820 --> 00:09:42.259 along the way you can see how you grew to trust 00:09:42.259 --> 00:09:45.559 him more how he was walking with you it's pretty 00:09:45.559 --> 00:09:50.419 amazing so anyway i do feel like i do feel like 00:09:50.419 --> 00:09:54.080 we've touched on this but the way that she spoke 00:09:54.080 --> 00:09:56.830 it Like we said, it resonated with people the 00:09:56.830 --> 00:10:00.230 way that she said it. Had you thought before 00:10:00.230 --> 00:10:03.289 of them really being two distinctly different 00:10:03.289 --> 00:10:05.750 things? I had not. Just like you said, we had 00:10:05.750 --> 00:10:07.470 talked before about there being the spiritual 00:10:07.470 --> 00:10:09.490 healing and the physical healing. I love that 00:10:09.490 --> 00:10:12.929 she talked about... Spiritual wholeness. Yes, 00:10:12.929 --> 00:10:15.789 the wholeness. The master healer will heal all 00:10:15.789 --> 00:10:18.210 our afflictions, physical and emotional, in his 00:10:18.210 --> 00:10:21.629 time. But in the waiting to be healed, can one 00:10:21.629 --> 00:10:24.909 behold? And then she goes on to explain, to behold, 00:10:25.029 --> 00:10:27.529 like what does it mean to behold, right? To behold 00:10:27.529 --> 00:10:30.659 means to be complete and full. Much like the 00:10:30.659 --> 00:10:33.139 five wise virgins who had their lamps full with 00:10:33.139 --> 00:10:35.720 oil when the bridegroom came, we can be whole 00:10:35.720 --> 00:10:38.100 in Jesus Christ as we fill our lamps with the 00:10:38.100 --> 00:10:41.480 nourishing oil of conversion to him. In that 00:10:41.480 --> 00:10:43.120 way, we're prepared for the symbolic wedding 00:10:43.120 --> 00:10:46.580 supper, his second coming. So if I'm taking key 00:10:46.580 --> 00:10:48.840 words from her description, being whole would 00:10:48.840 --> 00:10:51.820 mean complete, full of conversion to Jesus Christ 00:10:51.820 --> 00:10:55.299 and being prepared for his coming. I love that. 00:10:56.929 --> 00:11:00.129 So, maybe we should stop and consider some ways 00:11:00.129 --> 00:11:03.230 to be made whole. She makes a list of a few of 00:11:03.230 --> 00:11:06.590 them, and I'll start off with a few. We can be 00:11:06.590 --> 00:11:08.610 made whole in Jesus Christ when we exercise our 00:11:08.610 --> 00:11:11.669 agency to follow Him in faith. And I think you 00:11:11.669 --> 00:11:14.110 made that point. The ten lepers went off, one 00:11:14.110 --> 00:11:19.210 returned. Jesus Christ is always about agency, 00:11:19.250 --> 00:11:21.350 and that's the lesson. We have to turn to him. 00:11:21.370 --> 00:11:23.830 He can't just throw at us. And here also, let 00:11:23.830 --> 00:11:25.269 me sprinkle this. You're also spiritually whole. 00:11:25.350 --> 00:11:29.789 Yeah. It required using agency too. I know what 00:11:29.789 --> 00:11:33.029 you said to do, but thank you for what you did. 00:11:33.409 --> 00:11:36.490 Yeah. We are whole in Jesus Christ as we submit 00:11:36.490 --> 00:11:39.049 our hearts to him so that he can change them. 00:11:39.629 --> 00:11:42.529 And a lot of times when it's chronic illness 00:11:42.529 --> 00:11:45.110 that we're discussing, we've allowed ourselves 00:11:45.110 --> 00:11:49.470 to harden a piece of that heart. That's a good 00:11:49.470 --> 00:11:53.669 point. Usually. Because it's chronic. Yeah. You've 00:11:53.669 --> 00:11:55.570 been dealing with it for so many years. You get 00:11:55.570 --> 00:11:58.789 a piece of anger in there. Yeah. You get burned. 00:11:58.929 --> 00:12:00.529 You think to yourself. And you reason like, I've 00:12:00.529 --> 00:12:02.470 been doing so many good things. Like, I deserve 00:12:02.470 --> 00:12:06.789 this healing. But he's not punishing you with 00:12:06.789 --> 00:12:10.799 that illness. Right. So healing you from it isn't 00:12:10.799 --> 00:12:12.620 because you were a good girl or boy all of a 00:12:12.620 --> 00:12:15.120 sudden. Absolutely. That's the distinguishing 00:12:15.120 --> 00:12:18.019 feature. And it's always a process. There's never 00:12:18.019 --> 00:12:19.940 like a one and done and it's finished, you know? 00:12:20.259 --> 00:12:22.799 It's like you think, oh, this might be the thing. 00:12:22.820 --> 00:12:24.659 And then you go through it and it didn't heal 00:12:24.659 --> 00:12:26.480 you. And you're like, oh, you don't want to hold 00:12:26.480 --> 00:12:28.559 out hope for the next time. You know, you kind 00:12:28.559 --> 00:12:30.559 of get burned. Well, and it's an interesting 00:12:30.559 --> 00:12:32.659 thing to think about when you submit your heart 00:12:32.659 --> 00:12:35.799 to him. It's because you know that only He can 00:12:35.799 --> 00:12:39.000 fix, that He can soften that heart for you. But 00:12:39.000 --> 00:12:40.980 again, like it's the agency and it's turning 00:12:40.980 --> 00:12:44.200 to Him to allow Him to do that. And then keeping 00:12:44.200 --> 00:12:47.539 His commandments. That's the long and short of 00:12:47.539 --> 00:12:50.659 it. Absolutely. And then she continues, enter 00:12:50.659 --> 00:12:53.000 a covenant relationship with Him. So when we 00:12:53.000 --> 00:12:56.440 make covenants with Him. And then meekly, you 00:12:56.440 --> 00:12:59.419 kind of touched on this too, meekly. endure and 00:12:59.419 --> 00:13:01.740 learn from mortal challenges until we return 00:13:01.740 --> 00:13:04.740 to his presence and are healed in every way. 00:13:05.019 --> 00:13:06.759 Somehow we have to verbalize that we're getting 00:13:06.759 --> 00:13:08.940 the message that he's sending to us. That's a 00:13:08.940 --> 00:13:10.700 good point. Like I'm acknowledging I'm going 00:13:10.700 --> 00:13:13.399 through this physical ailment, but I've mentioned 00:13:13.399 --> 00:13:16.899 before, like people that will testify like, you 00:13:16.899 --> 00:13:20.899 know, in their ailment, you know, Jesus Christ 00:13:20.899 --> 00:13:22.519 is their savior and he's done so many good things 00:13:22.519 --> 00:13:25.980 for them. that speaks volumes when you get to 00:13:25.980 --> 00:13:28.200 hear somebody testifying through their trials 00:13:28.200 --> 00:13:30.919 and their pain. 100%. And even, you know, if 00:13:30.919 --> 00:13:34.080 we're waiting in wholeness, we are whole in our 00:13:34.080 --> 00:13:38.620 dedication to the Lord. Like this says, I can 00:13:38.620 --> 00:13:42.519 be whole while I wait for healing if I am wholehearted 00:13:42.519 --> 00:13:44.759 in my relationship with Him. So just like you're 00:13:44.759 --> 00:13:47.240 saying, for me, it's kind of like I have an open 00:13:47.240 --> 00:13:49.639 document with Heavenly Father and we talk about 00:13:49.639 --> 00:13:52.470 like the... all the challenges I'm going through 00:13:52.470 --> 00:13:54.990 right now. Like I'll get, let's say an inspiration 00:13:54.990 --> 00:13:56.690 to do a certain thing. And I'll say, Heavenly 00:13:56.690 --> 00:13:59.110 Father, I had a thought to do this. Was this 00:13:59.110 --> 00:14:01.110 you? Like, so I get the confirmation and I say, 00:14:01.190 --> 00:14:03.389 how would be the best way to proceed with this? 00:14:03.450 --> 00:14:05.309 I'm not really sure what it looks like.
