It came upon the midnight clear,
that glorious song of old,
from angels heralding the birth
of Jesus Savior:
"Glory to God in the highest,
peace on earth, and goodwill to men."
The shepherds in solemn stillness awed,
to hear the angels sing.

The skies light up with the brightness
of angels with wings unfurled,
Their strains of joy fill the air
o'er all Judean plains;
Above the shepherds and their flocks,
An angel says, Fear not,
Behold I bring you good tidings -
the birth of Christ the Lord!”

And us, beneath life's crushing load,
whose forms are bending low,
who toil in this temporary home
With painful steps and slow
look up! For our redemption draws near
our King will come with the cloud.
And we’ll be raptured to Him and sing
The songs of Moses and the Lamb!

For lo! The last days are hastening on,
As seen by John at Patmos
Now prophecies are being fulfilled,
Soon, we will behold our Lord.
O victors o’er the beast and its mark
Prepare a song that will be sung
Before the throne of God above
Which no man or angels could learn.

When sin and sinners are no more
Pain and sadness linger on
But God will wipe away all tears
And will make all things new.
Death shall be no more, neither sorrow
nor crying, neither pain
There’ll be new songs
in the earth made new
Of the wonder of God’s love.
