So let's recap a little bit and look 00:02:07.000 --> 00:02:09.479 at some of these things that scripture reveals 00:02:09.479 --> 00:02:13.379 about the blood of Jesus. So the blood is not 00:02:13.379 --> 00:02:17.060 just an illustration or symbolic religious verbiage, 00:02:17.080 --> 00:02:20.379 as some of you who maybe have grown up in church. 00:02:21.659 --> 00:02:24.120 you know, have heard about it or thought about 00:02:24.120 --> 00:02:28.599 it, it's actually full of covenant reality. And 00:02:28.599 --> 00:02:31.460 it's full of spiritual power, as we've seen. 00:02:32.360 --> 00:02:37.060 So let's turn to Scripture. Hebrews 9 .22, as 00:02:37.060 --> 00:02:39.479 we've looked at, says this, Without the shedding 00:02:39.479 --> 00:02:43.240 of blood, there's no forgiveness. Everybody say 00:02:43.240 --> 00:02:47.340 forgiveness. So the blood of Jesus makes forgiveness 00:02:47.340 --> 00:02:50.620 possible for the believer. And then we looked 00:02:50.620 --> 00:02:55.000 at in Colossians 1, 13 through 14 says, for he 00:02:55.000 --> 00:02:58.719 has rescued us from the kingdom of darkness and 00:02:58.719 --> 00:03:02.599 transferred us into the kingdom of his dear son 00:03:02.599 --> 00:03:07.099 who purchased our freedom and forgave our sins. 00:03:07.400 --> 00:03:13.360 Say purchased and then say forgave. So God. purchased 00:03:13.360 --> 00:03:16.759 us he not only forgave us he purchased us too 00:03:16.759 --> 00:03:20.780 as we saw so the blood of jesus it paid the price 00:03:20.780 --> 00:03:25.120 it purchased our redemption and this verse tells 00:03:25.120 --> 00:03:30.120 us that he brought us out of darkness he bought 00:03:30.120 --> 00:03:34.139 us from the kingdom of darkness and then transferred 00:03:34.139 --> 00:03:39.449 us into the kingdom of in christ his son And 00:03:39.449 --> 00:03:42.189 then we looked at in Hebrews 9, 13 through 14, 00:03:42.270 --> 00:03:46.129 says under the old system, the blood of goats 00:03:46.129 --> 00:03:49.270 and bulls and the ashes of a heifer could cleanse 00:03:49.270 --> 00:03:53.250 people's bodies from ceremonial impurity. Verse 00:03:53.250 --> 00:03:58.430 14, just think how much more the blood of Christ 00:03:58.430 --> 00:04:02.069 will purify our consciences from sinful deeds 00:04:02.069 --> 00:04:07.789 so that we can worship the living God. Here we 00:04:07.789 --> 00:04:11.469 see that Christ's blood also deals with the effects 00:04:11.469 --> 00:04:15.770 and the eternal damage of sin. Not just sin in 00:04:15.770 --> 00:04:19.129 general, but it deals with sin's effects on us 00:04:19.129 --> 00:04:23.449 and how sin has internally affected us and damaged 00:04:23.449 --> 00:04:27.560 us. Christ's blood can cleanse the conscious, 00:04:27.779 --> 00:04:30.600 is what this verse says. It cleanses our minds 00:04:30.600 --> 00:04:34.100 of all guilt and condemnation. And from these 00:04:34.100 --> 00:04:36.560 things can come up from, as we saw from past 00:04:36.560 --> 00:04:39.879 experiences, past actions on our part, maybe 00:04:39.879 --> 00:04:44.040 some sinful actions done to you. But thank God 00:04:44.040 --> 00:04:48.060 that his blood cleanses us, not just salvation, 00:04:48.420 --> 00:04:51.079 not just for eternal life, but it cleanses our 00:04:51.079 --> 00:04:55.139 minds in the here and now of sin. And it removes 00:04:55.139 --> 00:04:58.379 that power of sin over us. And then we saw in 00:04:58.379 --> 00:05:02.839 Hebrews 10, 19. And so, dear brothers and sisters, 00:05:03.040 --> 00:05:06.379 we can boldly enter heaven's most holy place 00:05:06.379 --> 00:05:10.800 because of the blood of Jesus. And as we learned, 00:05:10.860 --> 00:05:15.279 the blood of Jesus grants us bold access to God. 00:05:16.100 --> 00:05:20.620 This is another great truth. in God's word about 00:05:20.620 --> 00:05:23.920 the blood of Jesus. Let's continue with more 00:05:23.920 --> 00:05:27.220 that we've looked at. In Hebrews 12, 24 says, 00:05:27.459 --> 00:05:41.319 So as we learned, the blood of Jesus speaks. 00:05:41.379 --> 00:05:45.379 It has a voice. The blood of Jesus speaks mercy. 00:05:45.819 --> 00:05:51.040 It speaks. It speaks acceptance. It speaks peace. 00:05:51.439 --> 00:05:55.560 It speaks reconciliation and covenant favor. 00:05:56.319 --> 00:05:59.839 So the blood of Jesus, it speaks these better 00:05:59.839 --> 00:06:04.040 things over us. And then we saw in 1 Corinthians 00:06:04.040 --> 00:06:09.879 15, 57 says, but thank God he gives us victory 00:06:09.879 --> 00:06:14.819 over sin and death. Everybody say victory. He 00:06:14.819 --> 00:06:17.560 gives us victory over sin and death through our 00:06:17.560 --> 00:06:20.779 Lord Jesus Christ. And then we saw in Revelations 00:06:20.779 --> 00:06:25.899 12, 11, it says, and they overcame him, talking 00:06:25.899 --> 00:06:30.279 about our enemy, our adversary, the devil. It 00:06:30.279 --> 00:06:33.519 says, and they overcame him, speaking of a future 00:06:33.519 --> 00:06:38.920 thing that will happen, but we overcome him now 00:06:38.920 --> 00:06:42.879 by the blood of the lamb and by the word of their 00:06:42.879 --> 00:06:47.649 testimony. As we saw the blood of Jesus, it secures 00:06:47.649 --> 00:06:51.769 our victory over sin, death, and the enemy, and 00:06:51.769 --> 00:06:54.949 all demonic forces. As the believer, we have 00:06:54.949 --> 00:06:57.949 authority in Christ over these things. These 00:06:57.949 --> 00:07:02.389 things no longer rule over us. And then in 1 00:07:02.389 --> 00:07:06.910 Peter 2, 24, we saw that who himself bore our 00:07:06.910 --> 00:07:11.189 sins in his own body on the tree, that we, having 00:07:11.189 --> 00:07:16.180 died to sins, might live for righteousness, by 00:07:16.180 --> 00:07:19.579 whose stripes you were healed. And we looked 00:07:19.579 --> 00:07:23.899 at that word healed as meaning wholeness. When 00:07:23.899 --> 00:07:26.220 we look at the original Greek language, it means 00:07:26.220 --> 00:07:30.199 wholeness for the believer. So what does this 00:07:30.199 --> 00:07:33.360 mean? It means that the blood of Jesus purchased 00:07:33.360 --> 00:07:37.480 healing for the whole person, for the physical, 00:07:37.740 --> 00:07:42.189 for the mental, for the emotional. The blood 00:07:42.189 --> 00:07:46.290 of Jesus provides wholeness, provides healing, 00:07:46.629 --> 00:07:50.920 restoration of the whole person. He's not just 00:07:50.920 --> 00:07:53.199 concerned about your salvation. He's concerned 00:07:53.199 --> 00:07:56.500 about your mental arena. He's concerned about 00:07:56.500 --> 00:08:00.920 your emotions. And these things can often get 00:08:00.920 --> 00:08:04.360 in the way of our worship and our life served 00:08:04.360 --> 00:08:07.439 and surrendered to God. And God's saying healing 00:08:07.439 --> 00:08:10.560 is more than often just what we think about. 00:08:11.399 --> 00:08:14.180 the whole person, and the blood of Jesus provided 00:08:14.180 --> 00:08:18.120 that for us. So, as we've seen, the blood of 00:08:18.120 --> 00:08:21.220 Jesus, it not only makes forgiveness possible, 00:08:21.480 --> 00:08:24.600 it not only perches us out of the kingdom of 00:08:24.600 --> 00:08:28.459 darkness, not only cleanses our conscience from 00:08:28.459 --> 00:08:32.059 the effects of sin, not only grants us bold access 00:08:32.059 --> 00:08:35.700 to God, it not only speaks better things over 00:08:35.700 --> 00:08:40.320 our lives, it not only secures our victory, It 00:08:40.320 --> 00:08:43.559 not only makes us whole. Today, we're looking 00:08:43.559 --> 00:08:48.000 at how the blood of Jesus establishes covenant. 00:08:48.279 --> 00:08:52.120 Everybody say, establishes covenant. Now, throughout 00:08:52.120 --> 00:08:54.720 this series, we've made a lot of statements about 00:08:54.720 --> 00:08:57.460 covenant, but we've not really defined what a 00:08:57.460 --> 00:09:00.700 covenant is. So let's talk about that real quick. 00:09:00.840 --> 00:09:05.100 A covenant is an irrevocable agreement between 00:09:05.100 --> 00:09:09.059 two parties. And as we look throughout Scripture 00:09:09.059 --> 00:09:12.779 from beginning to end, we see that God is a covenant 00:09:12.779 --> 00:09:18.320 God. We see Him make covenants with Adam, with 00:09:18.320 --> 00:09:24.580 Noah, with Abraham, with Moses, and David. And 00:09:24.580 --> 00:09:28.720 today I want us to look at two individual ones. 00:09:28.919 --> 00:09:31.580 Now, God made many covenants with these people, 00:09:31.639 --> 00:09:35.059 but I just want to focus in on two of these because 00:09:35.059 --> 00:09:38.580 I... think that they reveal a great truth that 00:09:38.580 --> 00:09:42.639 we can see. So in the book of Genesis, Genesis 00:09:42.639 --> 00:09:49.259 15, God made a covenant with Abram. Abram is 00:09:49.259 --> 00:09:52.720 soon to be Abraham, but he's still called Abram 00:09:52.720 --> 00:09:55.539 here. His name is still Abram before God changed 00:09:55.539 --> 00:09:58.019 his name. And God does something very unique. 00:09:59.399 --> 00:10:02.980 Abram asked God a very serious question. He says, 00:10:03.139 --> 00:10:08.740 after... Well, Abraham asked God after God had 00:10:08.740 --> 00:10:11.600 told him, you know, your descendants will outnumber 00:10:11.600 --> 00:10:17.919 the stars in the sky. And after he. showed him 00:10:17.919 --> 00:10:20.419 all this land. God showed Abram all this land 00:10:20.419 --> 00:10:22.659 and said, this would be the land of your descendants 00:10:22.659 --> 00:10:25.659 and you're going to have a son. And after all 00:10:25.659 --> 00:10:28.320 these things, Abraham asked God, he goes, so 00:10:28.320 --> 00:10:33.200 how will I know? In Genesis 15, 8, if you want 00:10:33.200 --> 00:10:36.139 to look at it, I encourage you to read it after 00:10:36.139 --> 00:10:39.460 this podcast. But in verse 8, he goes, so God, 00:10:39.519 --> 00:10:44.220 how will I know? How will I be sure that these 00:10:44.220 --> 00:10:47.600 things will happen? And as we've said, God is 00:10:47.600 --> 00:10:50.720 a covenant God. And as we see through the rest 00:10:50.720 --> 00:10:53.679 of this chapter, we see this is how God shows 00:10:53.679 --> 00:10:57.220 Abraham how he can know, how he can be assured 00:10:57.220 --> 00:11:02.220 of his promises that will take place. And so 00:11:02.220 --> 00:11:06.740 what God does here is animals were cut in half 00:11:06.740 --> 00:11:09.519 and laid on opposite side of each other. And 00:11:09.519 --> 00:11:12.100 now this seems a little barbaric, but this was. 00:11:12.539 --> 00:11:15.659 custom in their day. This was tradition. They 00:11:15.659 --> 00:11:18.620 would cut the animals in half and most of the 00:11:18.620 --> 00:11:22.299 time both parties would walk between them as 00:11:22.299 --> 00:11:26.159 a sign that if someone broke the agreement that 00:11:26.159 --> 00:11:29.659 their life would be on the line or they would 00:11:29.659 --> 00:11:33.440 perish. But this time something unique happened. 00:11:33.659 --> 00:11:37.320 God God laid out everything, but then he kind 00:11:37.320 --> 00:11:41.419 of put Abram into a trance or to sleep, some 00:11:41.419 --> 00:11:44.620 translations say. But yet he was still able to 00:11:44.620 --> 00:11:48.080 communicate with Abram. Abram was still cognizant. 00:11:48.080 --> 00:11:50.980 He was still aware of what was happening, as 00:11:50.980 --> 00:11:57.600 we see. And he sees, Abram sees a smoking cauldron 00:11:57.600 --> 00:12:03.159 and a torch of fire pass between these cut animals. 00:12:04.090 --> 00:12:08.230 And this shows us that it was representation 00:12:08.230 --> 00:12:12.450 of God walking through and making this promise 00:12:12.450 --> 00:12:16.490 and making things sure to Abram. And it reveals 00:12:16.490 --> 00:12:21.529 that God is showing that he alone. is the one 00:12:21.529 --> 00:12:25.649 who guarantees the promise. It wasn't like it 00:12:25.649 --> 00:12:29.049 was up to Abram to fulfill his side. No, it was 00:12:29.049 --> 00:12:32.269 God was showing him in that moment because he's 00:12:32.269 --> 00:12:34.590 saying, God, how can I be sure? And God's like, 00:12:34.750 --> 00:12:38.370 watch this. I'm going to walk through. I'm going 00:12:38.370 --> 00:12:41.769 to make sure the promise comes to be. It's not 00:12:41.769 --> 00:12:44.870 in your effort. It's not in your ability. And 00:12:44.870 --> 00:12:48.429 then when we turn over to Exodus later on, we 00:12:48.429 --> 00:12:51.309 see Moses. And I actually want to read this account. 00:12:51.389 --> 00:12:55.070 It's found in Exodus 24, 6 through 8. And it 00:12:55.070 --> 00:12:57.470 reveals another covenant that was made in the 00:12:57.470 --> 00:12:59.850 Bible that carries a lot of significance. So 00:12:59.850 --> 00:13:04.230 let's read it. Again, Exodus 24, verses 6 through 00:13:04.230 --> 00:13:08.389 8. Moses drained half the blood from these animals 00:13:08.389 --> 00:13:12.250 into basins. The other half he splattered against 00:13:12.250 --> 00:13:15.830 the altar. Then he took the book of the covenant 00:13:15.830 --> 00:13:19.730 and read it aloud to the people. Again, they 00:13:19.730 --> 00:13:23.110 all responded, we will do everything the Lord 00:13:23.110 --> 00:13:28.289 has commanded. We will obey. I just want to insert 00:13:28.289 --> 00:13:30.470 there, I wish they would have obeyed and done 00:13:30.470 --> 00:13:32.509 everything the Lord had commanded, right? But 00:13:32.509 --> 00:13:36.330 they did respond that way. And then in verse 00:13:36.330 --> 00:13:40.230 8, then Moses took the blood from the basins 00:13:40.230 --> 00:13:43.700 and splattered it over the people. declaring, 00:13:43.899 --> 00:13:47.580 look, this blood confirms the covenant the Lord 00:13:47.580 --> 00:13:50.840 has made with you in giving you these instructions. 00:13:52.379 --> 00:13:57.080 So quickly, I want to point out the blood was 00:13:57.080 --> 00:14:01.639 sprinkled on the altar and then it was sprinkled 00:14:01.639 --> 00:14:05.480 on the people. And we see this is the first covenant 00:14:05.480 --> 00:14:09.039 in the Bible where this takes place. Often blood 00:14:09.039 --> 00:14:13.029 was put on the doorpost or just put on the altar 00:14:13.029 --> 00:14:16.370 and things like that. But this time the blood 00:14:16.370 --> 00:14:19.009 is not only on the altar, it's on the people. 00:14:20.269 --> 00:14:24.250 And this is very interesting because God established 00:14:24.250 --> 00:14:28.250 the covenant with Moses and his people with blood. 00:14:28.529 --> 00:14:31.330 And the blood, it was not only applied to the 00:14:31.330 --> 00:14:34.509 altar, it was applied to the people. And as we 00:14:34.509 --> 00:14:37.049 continue to read through the scriptures, we see 00:14:37.049 --> 00:14:40.250 that the purpose of the covenant, of a blood 00:14:40.250 --> 00:14:46.330 covenant, restored fellowship. It's for restoration 00:14:46.330 --> 00:14:52.129 of God and man and what sin had divided and separated, 00:14:52.570 --> 00:14:57.309 his blood restored and mended. Because without 00:14:57.309 --> 00:15:01.129 blood, there's no access or fellowship of sinful 00:15:01.129 --> 00:15:06.009 man with a holy God. And after this takes place, 00:15:06.090 --> 00:15:11.190 we read in Exodus 25, 8, says this, God tells 00:15:11.190 --> 00:15:14.850 them, Have the people of Israel build me a holy 00:15:14.850 --> 00:15:20.809 sanctuary so I can live among them. So in other 00:15:20.809 --> 00:15:23.950 words, this could not happen until after the 00:15:23.950 --> 00:15:28.029 blood was applied to them. That's when now they 00:15:28.029 --> 00:15:30.789 can worship him. That's when they can communicate 00:15:30.789 --> 00:15:34.850 with him and build this tabernacle where God's 00:15:34.850 --> 00:15:38.429 presence would now dwell among his people. This 00:15:38.429 --> 00:15:42.309 is what God wants, but sin has kept that from 00:15:42.309 --> 00:15:46.610 happening. So just like God established covenants 00:15:46.610 --> 00:15:50.299 with these in the Old Testament, When we go over 00:15:50.299 --> 00:15:53.940 to the New Testament, we see Jesus establishing 00:15:53.940 --> 00:15:58.460 a new covenant with us, with his blood. Let's 00:15:58.460 --> 00:16:00.740 think back on the night before Jesus shed his 00:16:00.740 --> 00:16:03.299 blood on the cross. He got together with his 00:16:03.299 --> 00:16:06.159 disciples in the upper room to let them know 00:16:06.159 --> 00:16:09.779 what was about to take place. So now let's turn 00:16:09.779 --> 00:16:14.940 to Luke 22 20 and read. It says this, after supper, 00:16:15.100 --> 00:16:18.539 he took another cup of wine and said, this cup. 00:16:18.840 --> 00:16:22.019 is the new covenant between God and his people. 00:16:22.179 --> 00:16:26.639 An agreement, say an agreement, an agreement 00:16:26.639 --> 00:16:30.159 confirmed with my blood, which is poured out 00:16:30.159 --> 00:16:35.179 as a sacrifice for you. So notice that the cup 00:16:35.179 --> 00:16:38.759 was the agreement and his blood was the confirmation 00:16:38.759 --> 00:16:43.529 of it. And that is what is poured out as a sacrifice 00:16:43.529 --> 00:16:48.070 for us. And as we know, the next day when he 00:16:48.070 --> 00:16:51.889 shed his blood on the cross, that is when the 00:16:51.889 --> 00:16:56.090 new covenant was established. That's when God 00:16:56.090 --> 00:16:59.470 said, it is finished. It is done, meaning it 00:16:59.470 --> 00:17:02.610 is completed. That's when that covenant went 00:17:02.610 --> 00:17:06.609 into effect, when that blood left his body, right? 00:17:07.170 --> 00:17:10.950 But then this is... What we see in the natural, 00:17:11.130 --> 00:17:15.029 what takes place on the earth, was wonderful 00:17:15.029 --> 00:17:18.849 and grand and God willingly laying down his life 00:17:18.849 --> 00:17:23.509 for us, but something else takes place. We see 00:17:23.509 --> 00:17:26.490 what happens in the natural in the gospel accounts 00:17:26.490 --> 00:17:30.509 of his death and burial and resurrection, but 00:17:30.509 --> 00:17:34.069 Hebrews gives us further revelation of what takes 00:17:34.069 --> 00:17:36.970 place and what took place in the spirit realm. 00:17:37.500 --> 00:17:41.420 So I want us to turn now to Hebrews 9, 11 through 00:17:41.420 --> 00:17:45.319 15. Now, some of this overlaps with some of the 00:17:45.319 --> 00:17:47.920 things we've been reading, but now I want us 00:17:47.920 --> 00:17:52.279 to read it all in one long stretch and see what 00:17:52.279 --> 00:17:55.339 was accomplished in the spirit realm and what 00:17:55.339 --> 00:17:59.180 took place. So let's read verse 11. So Christ 00:17:59.180 --> 00:18:02.599 has now become the high priest over all the good 00:18:02.599 --> 00:18:07.230 things that have come. He has entered that greater, 00:18:07.329 --> 00:18:10.890 more perfect tabernacle in heaven, which was 00:18:10.890 --> 00:18:13.950 not made by human hands and is not a part of 00:18:13.950 --> 00:18:18.250 this created world. And with his own blood, not 00:18:18.250 --> 00:18:21.950 the blood of goats and calves, he entered the 00:18:21.950 --> 00:18:26.269 most holy place once and for all time and secured 00:18:26.269 --> 00:18:29.650 our redemption forever. So I want to stop real 00:18:29.650 --> 00:18:34.079 quick and just talk about... Remember, he shed 00:18:34.079 --> 00:18:37.940 his blood on the cross, on the earth. We could 00:18:37.940 --> 00:18:42.500 call that even, you know, on humanity. He shed 00:18:42.500 --> 00:18:45.460 his blood in the earth. And then now we see that 00:18:45.460 --> 00:18:48.160 he did something in the spirit realm too. He 00:18:48.160 --> 00:18:51.220 takes his blood with his own blood.
