The disciples came to Jesus and 00:07:22.600 --> 00:07:25.740 they said, teach us how to pray. Just like John 00:07:25.740 --> 00:07:27.439 the Baptist taught us, teach us how to pray, 00:07:27.500 --> 00:07:30.350 Jesus. Because they recognized something different 00:07:30.350 --> 00:07:33.290 in him and how he was praying. When he would 00:07:33.290 --> 00:07:35.870 go away, the Bible says often he would go away 00:07:35.870 --> 00:07:39.509 in the early hours of the day. And he would climb 00:07:39.509 --> 00:07:43.089 on top of mountaintops sometimes and go be alone 00:07:43.089 --> 00:07:46.529 from his disciples and the crowd. And he would 00:07:46.529 --> 00:07:50.509 fellowship with the Father. And each time that 00:07:50.509 --> 00:07:52.670 happened, he would come back and something would 00:07:52.670 --> 00:07:55.750 be different. You could say he had like a twinkle 00:07:55.750 --> 00:07:58.620 in his eye. right? There was something on him 00:07:58.620 --> 00:08:02.279 that wasn't there before. But we're starting Matthew 00:08:56.980 --> 00:09:03.320 6, 9 through 13 says, Pray like this. Our Father 00:09:03.320 --> 00:09:08.679 in heaven, may your name be kept holy. It was originally written in Greek. 00:10:01.669 --> 00:10:05.490 And so if we look at those direct Greek to English 00:10:05.490 --> 00:10:09.490 words, the equivalents of those, it reads this. 00:10:09.980 --> 00:10:15.019 and not lead us into temptation, but deliver 00:10:15.019 --> 00:10:19.500 us from evil. If it has an and at the beginning, 00:10:19.700 --> 00:10:22.360 we're literally reading a progression of events, 00:10:22.580 --> 00:10:26.460 right? Let's read 00:11:39.460 --> 00:11:44.480 James 1, 13 through 15. It says this, And remember, 00:11:44.799 --> 00:11:50.320 when you are being tempted, do not say, God is 00:11:50.320 --> 00:11:56.019 tempting me. Don't say. Do not say. This is a 00:11:56.019 --> 00:12:00.419 command. Do not say, God is tempting me. God 00:12:00.419 --> 00:12:03.879 is never tempted to do wrong, and he never tempts 00:12:03.879 --> 00:12:09.990 anyone else. temptation, verse 14, get this, 00:12:10.110 --> 00:12:12.909 where does temptation come from? Temptation comes 00:12:12.909 --> 00:12:19.649 from our own desires, which entice us, drag us 00:12:19.649 --> 00:12:23.710 away. These desires give birth to sinful actions. 00:12:24.049 --> 00:12:28.470 And when sin is allowed to grow, everybody say 00:12:28.470 --> 00:12:33.669 when, it is allowed. For we do not have a high priest who 00:13:28.730 --> 00:13:30.909 cannot sympathize with our weaknesses. This is 00:13:30.909 --> 00:13:35.049 talking about Jesus, right? Specifically referring 00:13:35.049 --> 00:13:37.970 to him when he was fully man, that's right. He 00:13:37.970 --> 00:13:41.529 can sympathize with our weakness, but was in 00:13:41.529 --> 00:13:47.389 all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. 00:13:48.370 --> 00:13:53.129 Wow, that's encouraging, right? He was in every 00:13:53.129 --> 00:13:59.200 point tempted as we are, yet without sin. And 00:13:59.200 --> 00:14:02.179 who is Jesus? He's our living example of how 00:14:02.179 --> 00:14:05.419 he wanted his followers in him to experience 00:14:05.419 --> 00:14:12.860 day -to -day life. Since Jesus was tempted in 00:14:12.860 --> 00:14:16.519 all, as we are, without sin, you know what this 00:14:16.519 --> 00:14:21.700 means? And it proves this, contrary to popular 00:14:21.700 --> 00:14:28.070 belief, that it is not a sin to be tempted. The Bible says he was. But yet he was 00:16:04.500 --> 00:16:08.980 without sin. 1 Corinthians 10, 13 says this, 00:16:09.039 --> 00:16:12.039 the temptations in your life are no different 00:16:12.039 --> 00:16:17.419 from what others experience. And God, is faithful. 00:16:17.620 --> 00:16:22.559 Amen? God is faithful. He will not allow the 00:16:22.559 --> 00:16:27.299 temptation to be more than you can stand. Like, God gives his strongest battles, 00:16:33.840 --> 00:16:35.960 you know, his toughest battles to his strongest 00:16:35.960 --> 00:16:43.639 soldiers. That's not true. Does temptation come 00:16:43.639 --> 00:16:49.100 from God? Why are we quiet? We just read it. 00:16:49.139 --> 00:16:51.940 Come on now. Somebody's got to be with me. Where 00:16:51.940 --> 00:16:55.259 does temptation come from? No matter how often the enemy 00:18:05.460 --> 00:18:08.759 tries to convince you that you are alone, that 00:18:08.759 --> 00:18:12.450 your circumstance is special, There is a way 00:18:12.450 --> 00:18:16.849 out for every believer in Christ.
