It says before daybreak the next 00:03:12.400 --> 00:03:16.319 morning, Jesus got up and went out to an isolated 00:03:16.319 --> 00:03:22.340 place to pray. That's how important it was. Giving 00:03:22.340 --> 00:03:28.669 up some sleep for it. Here we go. After sending 00:03:28.669 --> 00:03:34.689 them home, Matthew 14, 23. This is after he sent, 00:03:34.830 --> 00:03:37.870 you know, I believe it's after he sent 5 ,000 00:03:37.870 --> 00:03:40.469 people home from feeding them. After sending 00:03:40.469 --> 00:03:42.909 them home, he went up into the hills by himself 00:03:42.909 --> 00:03:49.069 to pray. I'm sure he was tired. But today's technical title, if today's 00:07:21.990 --> 00:07:26.509 message has a title, it's what powerful prayer 00:07:26.509 --> 00:07:32.069 is and is not. That's why I'm switching over 00:07:32.069 --> 00:07:36.910 to Matthew. Because some of us might think that 00:07:36.910 --> 00:07:41.550 prayer or powerful prayer is something that Jesus 00:07:41.550 --> 00:07:50.560 says is not. Just because of our religious experience. 00:07:53.660 --> 00:07:57.620 So, Jesus talked to his disciples and he said 00:07:57.620 --> 00:08:01.600 this. He said, when you pray, he didn't say if 00:08:01.600 --> 00:08:06.100 you pray, he said when you pray. When you pray, 00:08:06.300 --> 00:08:10.620 don't be like the hypocrites. But hypocrites 00:09:27.179 --> 00:09:31.299 are play actors. Often in this time for entertainment, 00:09:31.639 --> 00:09:36.659 there would be plays, right? No TV. People write 00:09:36.659 --> 00:09:39.840 things. And you've seen the masks, the drama 00:09:39.840 --> 00:09:45.059 masks, right? So what they would do, because 00:09:45.059 --> 00:09:50.179 I guess good actors were hard to find, sometimes 00:09:50.179 --> 00:09:53.440 an actor would play two or three parts in the 00:09:53.440 --> 00:09:56.159 same play. Sometimes they would even talk to 00:09:56.159 --> 00:10:00.200 themselves. They'd put up a mask. How are you 00:10:00.200 --> 00:10:02.700 doing today? Put up the other mask. They weren't talking with God to have 00:10:55.480 --> 00:10:57.559 communication with God and be in relationship 00:10:57.559 --> 00:11:01.659 with God. It's like, that's hypocritical. At one time, we were like 280 00:13:44.779 --> 00:13:48.940 services in a year. That's a lot of services. 00:13:50.740 --> 00:13:54.620 So we were doing church a lot. We were the guests 00:13:54.620 --> 00:13:57.940 leading. You know, when we got up to like the 00:13:57.940 --> 00:14:01.830 mid -280s, I looked at, Gannon and Jeffrey and 00:14:01.830 --> 00:14:04.710 I said, we can't do this anymore because I'm 00:14:04.710 --> 00:14:06.669 so squeezed out. I ain't got nothing else to 00:14:06.669 --> 00:14:10.450 squeeze out. I mean, I'm just so worn out from, 00:14:10.570 --> 00:14:15.409 so I said, then we backed it up. There's memorized little phrases that 00:16:18.860 --> 00:16:21.940 you, you know, to sound super spiritual to everybody 00:16:21.940 --> 00:16:24.289 else in the room, you got to use those. You got 00:16:24.289 --> 00:16:26.850 to lock in on those spiritual phrases when you're 00:16:26.850 --> 00:16:32.590 praying. And all of a sudden, he got twisted 00:16:32.590 --> 00:16:37.809 up. See, I don't guess anyone in the room was 00:16:37.809 --> 00:16:40.029 listening to what he was praying to agree with 00:16:40.029 --> 00:16:42.929 him. Because when somebody prays in public in 00:16:42.929 --> 00:16:45.730 a church, you need to be listening and you need 00:16:45.730 --> 00:16:48.649 to be agreeing, saying like, yes, Lord. Yes, 00:16:48.710 --> 00:16:52.940 Lord. I agree with that. Amen. I agree. This 00:16:52.940 --> 00:16:56.379 guy, praying for the offering, he says, Lord, 00:16:56.559 --> 00:17:01.320 you know that we are bringing you today more 00:17:01.320 --> 00:17:09.880 than you deserve. Have you been 00:17:58.160 --> 00:18:01.960 to a service like that? It was time for the service 00:18:01.960 --> 00:18:05.119 to be over. He called on brother so -and -so. 00:18:05.140 --> 00:18:06.920 The pastor said, brother so -and -so, would you 00:18:06.920 --> 00:18:10.240 dismiss us in prayer? And here's what he said. 00:18:11.000 --> 00:18:20.069 I declined. And it shocked the preacher so much, 00:18:20.150 --> 00:18:24.710 he said, what?
