Hey Everyone! This is Kriti. Welcome to my podcast, happiness is critical. In this introduction I wanted to start by asking you all a question: What is Happiness? And how do we pursue happiness? I think the first thing that all of you might say is family, friends, music, and etc. As we dive into this episode, we will continue to find ways to accomplish happiness. Today let’s talk about the science of happiness: The science behind happiness is now picking up speed with scientists from all over the world, exploring the neuroscience of happiness as well as the psychology of well being. Positive emotions play a significant role in promoting happiness and overall well-being. They contribute to our subjective experience of happiness and can have a positive impact on our mental, emotional, and physical health. Here are some key positive emotions that are closely associated with happiness: Let’s start with Joy: Joy is a powerful positive emotion associated with feelings of delight, elation, and exuberance. It often arises from experiences of pleasure, success, or moments of intense happiness. Next, Gratitude: Gratitude involves appreciating and being thankful for the positive aspects of our lives. Cultivating a sense of gratitude can lead to increased happiness and life satisfaction. As for Love: Love encompasses feelings of deep affection, care, and connection towards others. Experiencing love, whether it's romantic, familial, or platonic, can bring immense happiness and fulfillment. Now let’s move onto Contentment: Contentment refers to a state of satisfaction and acceptance with one's present circumstances. It involves finding peace and happiness in the present moment, rather than constantly striving for more. Then there’s also Amusement: Amusement involves experiencing light-hearted laughter, humor, and enjoyment. It brings joy and can provide temporary relief from stress and worries. Then there is Hope: Hope is an optimistic emotion characterized by a belief in the possibility of positive outcomes in the future. It provides motivation, resilience, and a sense of purpose, contributing to overall happiness. And the most important, Inspiration: Inspiration is a positive emotion that arises from witnessing or experiencing something that sparks enthusiasm, creativity, and a sense of possibility. It can fuel personal growth and enhance happiness. And Finally there is Serenity: Serenity refers to a state of inner calm, tranquility, and peace. Experiencing moments of serenity can promote relaxation, reduce stress, and contribute to overall well-being. These positive emotions are not mutually exclusive, and individuals may experience a combination of them in different situations. Cultivating and savoring positive emotions can enhance happiness and improve overall well-being. Let’s dwell into how gratitude can help us find happiness. When we cultivate a sense of gratitude, we train our minds to focus on the positive aspects of our lives and acknowledge the blessings we have, rather than dwelling on what we lack or what's going wrong. Gratitude allows us to see the bigger picture and recognize that even during challenging times, there are still things to be thankful for. It reminds us that setbacks or difficulties are temporary and that we have the capacity to overcome them. Expressing gratitude towards others strengthens our connections and fosters positive relationships. Recognizing and appreciating the efforts, support, and kindness of others not only benefits them but also enhances our own sense of well-being and happiness. Gratitude encourages us to be present in the moment and fully appreciate what is happening right now. By focusing on the present and being grateful for it, we can experience greater happiness and contentment in our daily lives. Gratitude reminds us to take care of ourselves and prioritize our well-being. By appreciating our own strengths, qualities, and accomplishments, we develop a healthier self-image and foster a positive relationship with ourselves, which contributes to overall happiness. Incorporating gratitude into our daily lives doesn't require monumental efforts. Simple practices like keeping a gratitude journal, expressing thanks to others, or reflecting on what we're grateful for each day can make a significant difference in our pursuit of happiness. Engaging in activities that elicit positive emotions, such as spending time with loved ones, pursuing hobbies, practicing gratitude, or engaging in acts of kindness, can contribute to a greater sense of happiness and fulfillment in life. A special request to my audience, How about each one of you try to do something that makes you happy, for example like reaching out to your old friend, or even spending time with family during supper, or even helping someone in need. I would like to end my podcast today with a quote by Dalai Lama, who is an advocate for peace and freedom: "Happiness is not something ready-made. It comes from your own actions." Here are some online apps to practice mindfulness: There are several online apps and platforms that offer free mindfulness practices and meditation exercises. Here are some popular options: 1. Insight Timer 2. Headspace 3. Calm 4. UCLA Mindful 5. Smiling Mind 6. Stop, Breathe, & Think Remember that while these apps offer free content, they often have premium subscriptions with additional features and expanded libraries. However, you can still benefit from the free resources available on these platforms to practice mindfulness and cultivate a daily meditation habit. Thank you for listening. There are so many ways to find happiness and I wish everyone a wonderful day filled with happiness. I’ll be back with my second episode. Thank you for the privilege of your time and one more reminder: Happiness is critical! Stay happy! See you soon.
