So back in July of 2023, Thompson, 00:01:03.600 --> 00:01:06.700 a black man was about 20 years old, he wore a 00:01:06.700 --> 00:01:09.060 ski mask and forced his way into a woman's vehicle 00:01:09.060 --> 00:01:11.959 at gunpoint in southwest Louisville, he drove 00:01:11.959 --> 00:01:14.060 her to the parking lot of Sanders Elementary 00:01:14.060 --> 00:01:16.840 School, where he forced her to perform oral sex 00:01:16.840 --> 00:01:20.079 on him. And he compelled her to then drive to 00:01:20.079 --> 00:01:23.939 an ATM and withdraw $220 before returning to 00:01:23.939 --> 00:01:26.000 the school parking lot and sexually assaulting 00:01:26.000 --> 00:01:29.780 her again. and I wasn't able to identify anything 00:01:29.780 --> 00:01:33.500 about the victim but I did some research on the 00:01:33.500 --> 00:01:38.900 area of Louisville and at least as of 2000 that 00:01:38.900 --> 00:01:44.340 area is overwhelmingly white and so I think it's 00:01:44.340 --> 00:01:47.500 more likely than not that the victim in this 00:01:47.500 --> 00:01:51.560 case was white and Thompson was on probation 00:01:51.560 --> 00:01:58.500 in January 2024 when DNA evidence was linked 00:01:58.500 --> 00:02:01.760 to him and that led to his arrest. And he was 00:02:01.760 --> 00:02:06.599 actually in a diversion program following prior 00:02:06.599 --> 00:02:09.180 charges of possessing a stolen firearm and fleeing 00:02:09.180 --> 00:02:12.099 from police. And it was actually Judge Davis 00:02:12.099 --> 00:02:14.879 who we're going to introduce shortly. She was 00:02:14.879 --> 00:02:17.939 the one who sentenced him for the crime just 00:02:17.939 --> 00:02:21.039 a few days ago. She was also the one who had 00:02:21.039 --> 00:02:24.159 originally placed Thompson on the diversion program. 00:02:24.319 --> 00:02:28.020 So for this sexual assault case, there was a 00:02:28.020 --> 00:02:31.319 four -day trial in December of 2025 and the jury 00:02:31.319 --> 00:02:34.159 convicted Thompson on all counts and unanimously 00:02:34.159 --> 00:02:37.340 recommended a sentence of 65 years. Before we 00:02:37.340 --> 00:02:39.479 go into more of the details, I'm going to play 00:02:39.479 --> 00:02:43.759 a local news report on this story. However, LMPD connected him to it 00:04:30.839 --> 00:04:33.360 with DNA evidence. The sentencing hearing 00:04:41.100 --> 00:04:44.620 occurred on February 2nd, and some of the things 00:04:44.620 --> 00:04:49.180 that Thompson said, he told Judge Davis to, quote, 00:04:49.279 --> 00:04:52.350 eat my dick. and stating, if I could spit on 00:04:52.350 --> 00:04:55.209 you, I would. He told the female prosecutor, 00:04:55.529 --> 00:04:58.430 quote, I will see you in 20 years, bitch. He 00:04:58.430 --> 00:05:00.629 repeatedly interrupted the judge, stating that 00:05:00.629 --> 00:05:02.810 he had no sympathy for the victim, the victim's 00:05:02.810 --> 00:05:06.610 family, or anyone in the courtroom. And he also 00:05:06.610 --> 00:05:09.629 said, dumb bitches, fuck y 'all kids, and fuck 00:05:09.629 --> 00:05:13.009 y 'all's dead loved ones. As you heard, the judge 00:05:13.009 --> 00:05:17.410 said that Thompson fell through the cracks and 00:05:17.410 --> 00:05:21.149 didn't receive the care and anger management 00:05:21.149 --> 00:05:23.810 that presumably, I guess, could have prevented 00:05:23.810 --> 00:05:27.089 him from committing the criminal acts that he 00:05:27.089 --> 00:05:30.050 did. But what was not mentioned in the video 00:05:30.050 --> 00:05:33.889 clip was that in the course of her explaining, 00:05:34.430 --> 00:05:37.449 Judge Davis explaining her reasoning for reducing 00:05:37.449 --> 00:05:42.110 the sentence, she referenced Thompson's identity 00:05:42.110 --> 00:05:45.310 as, quote, a 20 -year -old African -American 00:05:45.310 --> 00:05:48.910 male that has been, you know, experienced this 00:05:48.910 --> 00:05:54.310 society. And so she's directly referencing race 00:05:54.310 --> 00:05:58.889 being a factor why this guy's sentence was cut 00:05:58.889 --> 00:06:05.370 in half after a jury decided on the 65 -year 00:06:05.370 --> 00:06:09.870 sentence. Judge Davis's website she states that 00:06:09.870 --> 00:06:13.550 she is committed to quote the pursuit of equity 00:06:13.550 --> 00:06:17.769 both in and out of the courtroom and she's spoken 00:06:17.769 --> 00:06:20.410 publicly about witnessing instances instances 00:06:20.410 --> 00:06:24.470 of unconscious bias as sometimes the only woman 00:06:24.470 --> 00:06:27.269 or person of color in a courtroom her social 00:06:27.269 --> 00:06:31.430 media handle is at diversity Davis and she has 00:06:31.430 --> 00:06:35.579 pronouns in her online profile Judge Davis herself 00:06:35.579 --> 00:06:39.000 was actually a defendant in several legal matters 00:06:39.000 --> 00:06:43.040 prior to taking the bench. So on September 2nd, 00:06:43.300 --> 00:06:46.339 2019 she was charged with reckless driving and 00:06:46.339 --> 00:06:49.480 driving under the influence after a deputy sheriff 00:06:49.480 --> 00:06:52.000 observed her swerving across lanes on Interstate 00:06:52.000 --> 00:06:56.639 71 shortly before 7 a .m. and court records indicate 00:06:56.639 --> 00:07:00.180 that she failed three field sobriety tests and 00:07:00.180 --> 00:07:04.129 she later pleaded guilty. and completed diversion 00:07:04.129 --> 00:07:09.730 program herself in July of 2022 and she talked 00:07:09.730 --> 00:07:11.970 about this during the campaign saying, we are 00:07:11.970 --> 00:07:15.949 all human and no one is above the law, myself 00:07:15.949 --> 00:07:19.350 included. She was also sued by someone who worked 00:07:19.350 --> 00:07:23.069 for her campaign who claimed that Davis stiffed 00:07:23.069 --> 00:07:26.550 her on campaign fees and a default judgment was 00:07:26.550 --> 00:07:29.649 eventually issued against Davis in that case. 00:07:30.189 --> 00:07:35.910 And there was an election in 2022, at least in 00:07:35.910 --> 00:07:39.910 Louisville, they have elections for judges. And 00:07:39.910 --> 00:07:42.449 Davis just narrowly won, beat the incumbent, 00:07:42.870 --> 00:07:47.269 51 % to 49%. And there's some interesting background 00:07:47.269 --> 00:07:51.389 there. The judge who, the incumbent who lost 00:07:51.389 --> 00:07:57.009 the election to Judge Davis was, the race got 00:07:57.009 --> 00:08:00.360 a lot of The campaign got a lot of attention, 00:08:00.360 --> 00:08:03.519 primarily because it came to light that the incumbent 00:08:03.519 --> 00:08:07.360 judge, Shaw, was the judge who signed the search 00:08:07.360 --> 00:08:11.120 warrant that led to Breonna Taylor's death. And 00:08:11.120 --> 00:08:16.139 as a reminder, back in 2020, after George Floyd 00:08:16.139 --> 00:08:20.019 was killed in May of 2020 and all the protests 00:08:20.019 --> 00:08:24.920 and riots broke out, the attention was turned 00:08:24.920 --> 00:08:28.040 to Louisville because of March 2020, a couple 00:08:28.040 --> 00:08:31.500 months before George Floyd, there was a no -knock 00:08:31.500 --> 00:08:34.100 warrant executed in Louisville by Louisville 00:08:34.100 --> 00:08:36.820 police. And I won't go into all the details, 00:08:37.419 --> 00:08:40.720 but bottom line is they had a no -knock warrant 00:08:40.720 --> 00:08:44.740 to investigate drug trafficking. And there was 00:08:44.740 --> 00:08:48.299 reason to believe that the drug trafficker was 00:08:48.299 --> 00:08:51.259 actually was an ex -boyfriend of Breonna Taylor. 00:08:51.279 --> 00:08:54.500 And so the Police executed a no -knock warrant 00:08:54.500 --> 00:08:58.159 on Breonna Taylor's apartment and there was a 00:08:58.159 --> 00:09:01.759 mix -up and the guy who was at the apartment, 00:09:01.820 --> 00:09:05.220 the man thought that the apartment was being 00:09:05.220 --> 00:09:07.840 broken into so he fired shots. The police fired 00:09:07.840 --> 00:09:11.399 back and Breonna Taylor was killed and that became 00:09:11.399 --> 00:09:16.679 a big media story about systemic racism and abuses 00:09:16.679 --> 00:09:21.190 of police. And it eventually led to some criminal 00:09:21.190 --> 00:09:25.830 charges by the Biden Justice Department. And 00:09:25.830 --> 00:09:31.889 that was a big factor in the judicial campaign. 00:09:32.769 --> 00:09:36.509 And so Davis ended up winning that election and 00:09:36.509 --> 00:09:39.919 became the judge. There's actually another female 00:09:39.919 --> 00:09:43.379 black judge in Jefferson County, Kentucky named 00:09:43.379 --> 00:09:47.320 Jessica Green. And she gave what's called shock 00:09:47.320 --> 00:09:51.159 probation to Armin Langford, a 32 year old black 00:09:51.159 --> 00:09:53.600 man who had been sentenced to 14 years in prison 00:09:53.600 --> 00:09:59.440 for 19 robberies and one burglary. So Judge Green 00:09:59.440 --> 00:10:03.320 granted Langford shock probation in July 2024 00:10:03.320 --> 00:10:05.919 after he had served just five months in state 00:10:05.919 --> 00:10:09.840 custody over the objection of prosecutors. And 00:10:09.840 --> 00:10:12.940 then about 13 months after he was released, in 00:10:12.940 --> 00:10:16.379 August of 2025, Langford broke into a Louisville 00:10:16.379 --> 00:10:18.639 home, abducted a mother and her two children 00:10:18.639 --> 00:10:21.259 at Knife Point, forced the woman to drive to 00:10:21.259 --> 00:10:24.840 a PNC bank to demand $20 ,000, and stabbed her 00:10:24.840 --> 00:10:28.120 during the incident. In response to Judge Green 00:10:28.120 --> 00:10:31.360 granting this probation, the Kentucky legislature 00:10:31.360 --> 00:10:34.799 passed the Safer Kentucky Act and under the new 00:10:34.799 --> 00:10:37.320 law, anyone convicted of a violent felony in 00:10:37.320 --> 00:10:40.559 Kentucky must serve at least 85 % of their sentence 00:10:40.559 --> 00:10:43.379 before becoming eligible for probation. So there's 00:10:43.379 --> 00:10:47.100 a lot of different angles to this story. One 00:10:47.100 --> 00:10:53.340 is, I think in this case, it's the judge reducing 00:10:53.340 --> 00:10:57.809 the sentence of Thompson is somewhat symbolic 00:10:57.809 --> 00:11:01.509 in the sense that he's still going to spend decades 00:11:01.509 --> 00:11:05.409 in prison. And he even if he had gotten the full 00:11:05.409 --> 00:11:08.970 65 year sentence, I assume he still would have 00:11:08.970 --> 00:11:13.379 been eligible for probation. So I don't know 00:11:13.379 --> 00:11:15.960 how much practical difference it's going to make. 00:11:16.220 --> 00:11:18.799 Regardless, unless something dramatic happens, 00:11:18.860 --> 00:11:22.000 he's going to spend decades in prison. But I 00:11:22.000 --> 00:11:29.240 think it's perhaps more relevant in what it portends 00:11:29.240 --> 00:11:33.360 for the future, because to me this is just a 00:11:33.360 --> 00:11:38.259 next step in an increasingly brazen nullification. 00:11:38.830 --> 00:11:42.669 and selective enforcement of the law based purely 00:11:42.669 --> 00:11:48.110 on racial and ethnic identity. And the idea of 00:11:48.110 --> 00:11:52.549 a colorblind meritocracy, a colorblind neutral 00:11:52.549 --> 00:11:57.610 application of the laws is becoming increasingly 00:11:57.610 --> 00:12:03.649 untenable because if you just trace back a few 00:12:03.649 --> 00:12:07.350 years to how all this came about, you had George 00:12:07.350 --> 00:12:11.679 Floyd killed and then that led to riots and that 00:12:11.679 --> 00:12:15.779 led to the defund the police movement which led 00:12:15.779 --> 00:12:20.659 directly to this black female judge getting elected 00:12:20.659 --> 00:12:24.779 and being put in a position of power where she 00:12:24.779 --> 00:12:29.000 can explicitly because the victim is the same 00:12:29.000 --> 00:12:33.960 race as her she's going to give him a more lenient 00:12:33.960 --> 00:12:39.120 sentence. So you have a black man committing 00:12:39.120 --> 00:12:42.659 violence against horrible crimes against what's 00:12:42.659 --> 00:12:45.080 most likely a white victim, and then you have 00:12:45.080 --> 00:12:47.940 that black defendant in front of a black judge 00:12:47.940 --> 00:12:51.279 who says explicitly, because you're black, I'm 00:12:51.279 --> 00:12:55.940 going to cut your sentence in half. The implications 00:12:55.940 --> 00:13:01.909 of that are profound. America and the justice 00:13:01.909 --> 00:13:04.429 system. It's just become, I guess the mask is 00:13:04.429 --> 00:13:09.409 just increasingly coming off and identity politics 00:13:09.409 --> 00:13:13.549 in its most raw form is just being shown. And 00:13:13.549 --> 00:13:17.529 I want to move on to a second story that touches 00:13:17.529 --> 00:13:23.009 on similar themes. So in an interview from December 00:13:23.009 --> 00:13:28.370 31st, 2024, Texas State Representative Gene Wu, 00:13:29.860 --> 00:13:33.659 WU, he is the leader of the Texas House Democratic 00:13:33.659 --> 00:13:36.879 Caucus. He made some remarks, like I said, on 00:13:36.879 --> 00:13:39.379 a podcast. He was asked about the relationship 00:13:39.379 --> 00:13:42.639 between Latino and Asian communities in Texas. 00:13:43.519 --> 00:13:46.639 Wu called on minority groups to unite against 00:13:46.639 --> 00:13:50.860 a common enemy. Quote, the day the Latino, African 00:13:50.860 --> 00:13:53.980 -American, Asian, and other communities realize 00:13:53.980 --> 00:13:57.240 that they share the same oppressor is the day 00:13:57.240 --> 00:14:00.450 we start winning. Wu said, quote, because we 00:14:00.450 --> 00:14:02.990 are the majority in this country now. We have 00:14:02.990 --> 00:14:05.830 the ability to take over this country and to 00:14:05.830 --> 00:14:08.490 do what is needed for everyone and to make things 00:14:08.490 --> 00:14:12.210 fairer. Also in the same interview, Wu said, 00:14:12.389 --> 00:14:14.970 quote, the scary thing for me is that what is 00:14:14.970 --> 00:14:17.409 driving this newest round of anti -immigrant 00:14:17.409 --> 00:14:20.509 sentiment is purely a sense of white nationalism. 00:14:22.009 --> 00:14:24.649 And both he and the host agreed that white people 00:14:24.649 --> 00:14:27.909 are already or nearly a racial minority in Texas. 00:14:29.789 --> 00:14:32.450 And he clarified that, Wu clarified that for 00:14:32.450 --> 00:14:34.610 now white Texans remain the majority of those 00:14:34.610 --> 00:14:37.409 eligible to vote. And he framed the takeover 00:14:37.409 --> 00:14:39.730 language as a goal of changing that electoral 00:14:39.730 --> 00:14:42.759 reality. And then he's expressed similar views 00:14:42.759 --> 00:14:46.019 in other contexts. Wu, in 2023, when the Supreme 00:14:46.019 --> 00:14:48.379 Court ruled against affirmative action in college 00:14:48.379 --> 00:14:51.100 admissions, he tweeted, quote, congratulations 00:14:51.100 --> 00:14:54.080 to white supremacy for winning a huge victory 00:14:54.080 --> 00:14:56.779 today. And there were a variety of comments made 00:14:56.779 --> 00:15:00.039 in response to this. I should say this comment 00:15:00.039 --> 00:15:04.100 was made back in December 2024, but for whatever 00:15:04.100 --> 00:15:07.259 reason, I think because NWOKNESS, a popular Twitter 00:15:07.259 --> 00:15:10.879 account, they tweeted out this interview recently 00:15:10.879 --> 00:15:14.460 in the past week and it's gone viral. And so 00:15:14.460 --> 00:15:18.000 there's been a bunch of reactions from Republican 00:15:18.000 --> 00:15:22.509 politicians from Texas. Texas Attorney General 00:15:22.509 --> 00:15:25.950 Ken Paxton called Wu a, quote, a radical racist 00:15:25.950 --> 00:15:28.210 who hates millions of Texans just because they're 00:15:28.210 --> 00:15:31.809 white. U .S. Representative Chip Roy called on 00:15:31.809 --> 00:15:34.110 Wu to resign, writing, unlike many Democrats, 00:15:34.169 --> 00:15:36.990 he admits his racism against white people and 00:15:36.990 --> 00:15:39.950 called to take over this country. Former Texas 00:15:39.950 --> 00:15:43.610 GOP Chairman Mike Rinaldi said the video showed 00:15:43.610 --> 00:15:47.370 Wu's advocacy for white genocide. And then State 00:15:47.370 --> 00:15:50.330 Senator Mays Middleton who's also a Republican 00:15:50.330 --> 00:15:53.029 candidate for Texas Attorney General, said Wu's 00:15:53.029 --> 00:15:55.490 comments show, quote, why only those born in 00:15:55.490 --> 00:15:57.929 America should be eligible to run for office. 00:15:58.730 --> 00:16:00.529 And then another Republican Attorney General 00:16:00.529 --> 00:16:03.690 candidate, Aaron Wright, he suggested that Wu, 00:16:03.690 --> 00:16:06.509 who was born in China, came to the US as a child, 00:16:07.149 --> 00:16:10.009 should be, quote, denaturalized, writing, he 00:16:10.009 --> 00:16:12.450 likely concealed his anti -American sentiment 00:16:12.450 --> 00:16:15.409 throughout his citizenship application process. 00:16:15.870 --> 00:16:19.000 Wu is a subversive whose citizenship should be 00:16:19.000 --> 00:16:22.700 revoked. So if you combine the implications of 00:16:22.700 --> 00:16:27.700 these two stories we discussed, the firstly that 00:16:27.700 --> 00:16:31.259 minorities are going to continue to get into 00:16:31.259 --> 00:16:34.679 positions of power and authority and explicitly 00:16:34.679 --> 00:16:39.019 use their power to reward and lessen punishments 00:16:39.019 --> 00:16:43.120 for minorities and presumably increase punishment 00:16:43.120 --> 00:16:48.009 and infliction of pain on white people. And you 00:16:48.009 --> 00:16:52.129 combine that with white people increasingly decreasing 00:16:52.129 --> 00:16:56.649 as a percentage of the population very soon will 00:16:56.649 --> 00:17:00.250 become less than 50%. And you combine that with 00:17:00.250 --> 00:17:04.890 this woo in Texas saying that they're explicitly 00:17:04.890 --> 00:17:08.609 going to use, the minorities are going to band 00:17:08.609 --> 00:17:13.480 together and use their political power to take 00:17:13.480 --> 00:17:17.440 revenge against white people. It's not a very 00:17:17.440 --> 00:17:20.319 promising picture for the future of the United 00:17:20.319 --> 00:17:22.779 States. So there's a lot of things we could discuss 00:17:22.779 --> 00:17:27.160 before I turn it over to Ness. A couple things 00:17:27.160 --> 00:17:31.339 I want to throw out is Wu's strategy essentially 00:17:31.339 --> 00:17:34.299 I think Steve Saylor has described it in the 00:17:34.299 --> 00:17:37.640 past as the coalition of the fringes essentially 00:17:37.640 --> 00:17:41.099 everybody who isn't a straight white person is 00:17:41.099 --> 00:17:44.940 going to band together and Although all those 00:17:44.940 --> 00:17:49.480 non white straight people the surface don't seem 00:17:49.480 --> 00:17:52.279 to have a lot in common.
