She didn't withhold. her worship. 00:07:52.279 --> 00:07:54.740 You see, her pouring out her perfume is her act 00:07:54.740 --> 00:07:57.879 of worship. Notice the Bible doesn't say that 00:07:57.879 --> 00:08:01.839 Peter was over in the corner playing an acoustic 00:08:01.839 --> 00:08:03.680 guitar and they were singing. No, her act of 00:08:03.680 --> 00:08:06.620 worship is what she is giving Jesus in the moment. 00:08:06.680 --> 00:08:09.740 She is anointing Jesus with the perfume. You 00:08:09.740 --> 00:08:11.100 see, sometimes you have to realize back in the 00:08:11.100 --> 00:08:14.459 day, Mary didn't have a 401k or a bank account 00:08:14.459 --> 00:08:16.720 or a savings account. This was quite literally 00:08:16.720 --> 00:08:20.199 her treasure. Her bottle of perfume is the way 00:08:20.199 --> 00:08:22.459 that she stored her wealth. And scholars say 00:08:22.459 --> 00:08:24.980 that the amount of perfume that was poured out 00:08:24.980 --> 00:08:27.699 was equal to one year's worth of her salary. 00:08:28.240 --> 00:08:34.799 One year's worth of her wages. So we know that 00:08:34.799 --> 00:08:37.519 in this moment, Mary was quite literally giving 00:08:37.519 --> 00:08:42.029 it all. It wasn't just a fraction. Right? She 00:08:42.029 --> 00:08:43.409 didn't pour out a little bit and she didn't keep 00:08:43.409 --> 00:08:45.509 some back and say, well, I got to keep this because 00:08:45.509 --> 00:08:47.210 I got to pay the bills next month. She didn't 00:08:47.210 --> 00:08:49.149 care. In the moment, she's in the presence of 00:08:49.149 --> 00:08:51.590 Jesus. She's in the presence of Jesus. And friend, 00:08:51.629 --> 00:08:53.570 you are in the presence of Jesus every day of 00:08:53.570 --> 00:08:55.350 your life. So when people question 00:13:12.809 --> 00:13:15.370 you, why do you go to church so much? Why do 00:13:15.370 --> 00:13:17.490 you sing the way you do? Why does that worship 00:13:17.490 --> 00:13:19.830 team get so excited about worship? Maybe they 00:13:19.830 --> 00:13:22.149 just haven't experienced the power of Jesus that 00:13:22.149 --> 00:13:24.169 you have in your life. And I guarantee you that 00:13:24.169 --> 00:13:26.549 every single one of you, every single one of 00:13:26.549 --> 00:13:29.250 you has a reason to pour out your perfume. You've 00:13:29.250 --> 00:13:31.330 seen Jesus bring you through the dark times of 00:13:31.330 --> 00:13:33.950 your life. You've seen Jesus walk you through 00:13:33.950 --> 00:13:36.429 the desert when there was no rain. You've seen 00:13:36.429 --> 00:13:39.509 Jesus blaze away in the wilderness. You've seen 00:13:39.509 --> 00:13:41.830 him give you just enough money in your bank account 00:13:41.830 --> 00:13:48.429 to pay the bill. You see, Judas was a disciple 00:13:48.429 --> 00:13:52.950 of Jesus himself. And he couldn't even see the 00:13:52.950 --> 00:14:00.720 value of worship that Mary was bringing. So here's 00:14:00.720 --> 00:14:04.639 the challenge that I have for you today. Only 00:14:04.639 --> 00:14:08.620 you know the posture of your heart. Only you 00:14:08.620 --> 00:14:11.659 know the things that Jesus has done in your life. 00:14:13.500 --> 00:14:16.720 And each of you possess a bottle of your own 00:14:16.720 --> 00:14:22.340 perfume. When things in your 00:14:37.509 --> 00:14:40.470 life are going great, it's easy to lift our hands 00:14:40.470 --> 00:14:44.870 and sing, Praise the Lord, O my soul. Right? 00:14:46.389 --> 00:14:50.029 But when you just got laid off, or when your 00:14:50.029 --> 00:14:52.909 son or daughter has gone off the deep end, or 00:14:52.909 --> 00:14:55.490 you've just got that... pathology report back 00:14:55.490 --> 00:14:58.009 from the doctor that doesn't look so good. That's 00:14:58.009 --> 00:15:04.409 when worship comes in. And in that moment, Mary 00:15:04.409 --> 00:15:06.370 chose to pour out the whole bottle. So this morning 00:15:06.370 --> 00:15:09.330 I present you with an opportunity. An opportunity 00:15:09.330 --> 00:15:13.429 to save a little bit and keep it on the back 00:15:13.429 --> 00:15:15.070 shelf for when things get really rough in your 00:15:15.070 --> 00:15:18.269 life.
