I believe great things 00:00:25.190 --> 00:00:27.629 are gonna take place as we invite the Holy Spirit 00:00:27.629 --> 00:00:29.789 to lead us. For I ask these things in Jesus' 00:00:30.050 --> 00:00:33.119 name, amen. Well, the Holy Spirit promises to 00:00:33.119 --> 00:00:36.479 guide us, to help us, to deliver us, to give 00:00:36.479 --> 00:00:39.619 us power and to give us peace. Really, the promises 00:00:39.619 --> 00:00:42.500 of the Holy Spirit require, though, Christians 00:00:42.500 --> 00:00:45.119 to obey God's Word. We want to jump and get the 00:00:45.119 --> 00:00:47.560 promises, but we don't understand there's a condition 00:00:47.560 --> 00:00:49.719 through the promises. And it's a simple condition. 00:00:49.880 --> 00:00:53.159 Just follow the Word of God. And all these promises 00:00:53.159 --> 00:00:56.820 open up to us. We must claim or ask for the promises 00:00:56.820 --> 00:00:59.179 of the Holy Spirit. Well, 00:01:25.079 --> 00:01:26.859 he does. It would be wonderful to get into those 00:01:26.859 --> 00:01:29.000 right now. But first, I think I'd be making a 00:01:29.000 --> 00:01:31.939 big mistake if I didn't mention the gifts of 00:01:31.939 --> 00:01:34.680 the Spirit that we read about in 1 Corinthians 00:01:34.680 --> 00:01:37.569 chapter 12. Let's do that right now. You know, 00:01:37.890 --> 00:01:40.390 the New King James Version, 1 Corinthians chapter 00:01:40.390 --> 00:01:43.430 12, verse number 4. There are different kinds 00:01:43.430 --> 00:01:45.769 of spiritual gifts, but the same Spirit is the 00:01:45.769 --> 00:01:47.390 source of them all. Now that's very important, 00:01:47.409 --> 00:01:49.569 we'll talk more about that later. There are different 00:01:49.569 --> 00:01:52.209 kinds of service, but we serve the same Lord. 00:01:52.370 --> 00:01:55.170 God works in different ways, but it is the same 00:01:55.170 --> 00:01:57.629 God who does the work in all of us. Verse 7. 00:01:57.909 --> 00:02:01.590 A spiritual gift is given to each of us so we 00:02:01.590 --> 00:02:04.010 can, listen to this, help each other. See, we 00:02:04.010 --> 00:02:05.989 don't just get the spiritual gifts so that we 00:02:05.989 --> 00:02:08.210 can just get the blessing and the gift. We receive 00:02:08.210 --> 00:02:10.650 a gift so that we can bless the kingdom and bless 00:02:10.650 --> 00:02:13.650 the family of God. It says so that we can help 00:02:13.650 --> 00:02:16.770 each other. To one person the Spirit gives the 00:02:16.770 --> 00:02:19.610 ability to give wise advice. To another, the 00:02:19.610 --> 00:02:22.150 same Spirit gives a message of special knowledge. 00:02:22.400 --> 00:02:25.680 The same Spirit gives great faith. To another 00:02:25.680 --> 00:02:29.240 and to someone else, the one Spirit gives the 00:02:29.240 --> 00:02:31.900 gift of healing. In addition to that, in 1 Corinthians 00:03:55.409 --> 00:03:58.710 chapter 13, Paul goes on to talk about how love 00:03:58.710 --> 00:04:01.810 is the greatest gift. You see, the greatest promise 00:04:01.810 --> 00:04:04.110 or gift of the Holy Spirit is love. Listen to 00:04:04.110 --> 00:04:06.349 what Paul has to say. If I could speak all the 00:04:06.349 --> 00:04:08.610 languages of earth and of angels, but didn't 00:04:08.610 --> 00:04:11.370 love others, I would only be a noisy gong or 00:04:11.370 --> 00:04:13.900 a clanging cymbal. If I had the gift of prophecy 00:04:13.900 --> 00:04:18.079 and if I understand all of God's secret plans 00:04:18.079 --> 00:04:20.800 and possess all knowledge, and if I had such 00:04:20.800 --> 00:04:22.800 faith that I could move mountains but didn't 00:04:22.800 --> 00:04:25.720 love others, I would be nothing. He's basically 00:04:25.720 --> 00:04:28.399 saying that love is the most important thing. 00:04:28.740 --> 00:04:32.279 It's the most important gift that we receive 00:04:32.279 --> 00:04:34.560 and that we give out. Let's talk a little bit 00:04:34.560 --> 00:04:37.279 more about the gift of love. Galatians chapter 00:04:37.279 --> 00:04:40.139 5 and verse 22. Paul wrote this to let people 00:04:40.139 --> 00:04:42.939 understand how the Holy Spirit operates. I'm 00:04:42.939 --> 00:04:44.620 reading it in the New Living Translation. But 00:04:44.620 --> 00:04:47.680 the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in 00:04:47.680 --> 00:04:50.180 our lives. Love. Look at that. The very first 00:04:50.180 --> 00:04:52.600 one Paul mentions again is the significance of 00:04:52.600 --> 00:04:55.040 love. And then through love we receive then joy 00:04:55.040 --> 00:04:57.720 and peace and patience and kindness and goodness, 00:04:58.060 --> 00:05:00.980 faithfulness. gentleness and self -control. So 00:05:00.980 --> 00:05:03.379 the key to having all these other things is to 00:05:03.379 --> 00:05:05.300 have love and the key to operate in the gifts 00:05:05.300 --> 00:05:08.160 of the Spirit is to have love first. So the first 00:05:08.160 --> 00:05:10.300 fruit of the Spirit is love and what Paul is 00:05:10.300 --> 00:05:12.600 saying the most important gift of the Holy Spirit 00:05:12.600 --> 00:05:15.720 is love. You know as we saw in 1st Corinthians 00:05:15.720 --> 00:05:18.980 chapter 13 verse 2, all of the gifts or the fruit 00:05:18.980 --> 00:05:22.139 of the Spirit are wonderful but the gift of love 00:05:22.139 --> 00:05:25.379 is the greatest. Alright, so let's move on. One is, I have... 00:05:48.860 --> 00:05:51.660 heard Christians some of them really wonderful 00:05:51.660 --> 00:05:55.139 people say well I'm Irish so I get to argue and 00:05:55.139 --> 00:05:57.060 have to argue a lot I gotta speak my mind or 00:05:57.060 --> 00:05:59.860 I'm Scottish or I was raised in a family where 00:05:59.860 --> 00:06:03.100 we argued a lot and we cussed a lot and that's 00:06:03.100 --> 00:06:05.060 just the way it was so I have a right to do those 00:06:05.060 --> 00:06:06.779 things it's just my nature and that's what I 00:06:06.779 --> 00:06:08.939 am well no I don't believe it's our nature any 00:06:08.939 --> 00:06:11.699 longer because what did I just read said Corinthians 00:06:11.699 --> 00:06:15.779 chapter 5 verse 17 therefore if anyone is in 00:06:15.779 --> 00:06:18.220 Christ we that means we're a follower of the 00:06:18.220 --> 00:06:21.769 Lord Jesus Christ the new creation has come the 00:06:21.769 --> 00:06:25.750 old has gone the new is here so when we think 00:06:25.750 --> 00:06:27.810 of it that way things change now it won't happen 00:06:27.810 --> 00:06:29.949 overnight I can tell you when people get converted 00:06:29.949 --> 00:06:31.709 they come to know Jesus Christ as their Lord 00:06:31.709 --> 00:06:34.490 and Savior some of those old habits pop up some 00:06:34.490 --> 00:06:36.370 of those come but we need to strive through the 00:06:36.370 --> 00:06:38.750 power of the Holy Spirit and a relationship that 00:06:38.750 --> 00:06:41.509 we have with the Holy Spirit to be that new creation 00:06:41.509 --> 00:06:44.629 that God made and all things become new we don't 00:06:44.629 --> 00:06:47.310 have to argue just because of our ethnic background 00:06:47.470 --> 00:06:49.889 are because of our cultural background, are because 00:06:49.889 --> 00:06:53.029 of our genealogical background, what our bloodline 00:06:53.029 --> 00:06:57.470 is. That stuff can change. The fact is that because 00:06:57.470 --> 00:06:59.350 of our bloodline we might all have blue eyes 00:06:59.350 --> 00:07:01.870 or brown eyes or dark hair or light skin or dark 00:07:01.870 --> 00:07:03.889 skin or whatever it might be. That's all wonderful 00:07:03.889 --> 00:07:06.589 and good. But the bottom line of it is who we 00:07:06.589 --> 00:07:09.529 are changes. What our heart is, what our mind 00:07:09.529 --> 00:07:12.089 is, how we think, how we act. That's what the 00:07:12.089 --> 00:07:14.509 Holy Spirit wants to do. And we need to surrender 00:07:14.509 --> 00:07:17.459 to Him so that He can change those bad habits 00:07:17.459 --> 00:07:19.740 those old things that we did I know when I was 00:07:19.740 --> 00:07:21.480 raised it wasn't we were not a Christian home 00:07:21.480 --> 00:07:23.620 we went to church but we didn't really surrender 00:07:23.620 --> 00:07:25.699 to look to the Lord none of us were saved my 00:07:25.699 --> 00:07:28.399 including my mom and dad and we had a lot of 00:07:28.399 --> 00:07:30.600 Irish in our family so there were so many arguments 00:07:30.600 --> 00:07:32.180 where people are yelling and screaming at each 00:07:32.180 --> 00:07:35.019 other and it just was so frustrating as a child 00:07:35.019 --> 00:07:37.180 I just didn't want to be a part of those things 00:07:37.180 --> 00:07:39.060 and I mean there wasn't anybody getting hit or 00:07:39.060 --> 00:07:40.819 thrown around or anything like that but just 00:07:40.819 --> 00:07:43.319 the language was terrible and just all that stuff 00:07:43.319 --> 00:07:45.680 I had a wonderful loving mom and dad but they 00:07:45.680 --> 00:07:48.199 had not understood what it was to be a follower 00:07:48.199 --> 00:07:50.120 of the Lord Jesus Christ and receive the Holy 00:07:50.120 --> 00:07:51.980 Spirit in our life, when it happened to them 00:07:51.980 --> 00:07:53.920 later on in life, because I was blessed to be 00:07:53.920 --> 00:07:56.259 able to pray with my mom and dad to receive Jesus 00:07:56.259 --> 00:07:57.899 Christ as our Lord and Savior, and they were 00:07:57.899 --> 00:08:00.399 in their early 50s when that happened, and everything 00:08:00.399 --> 00:08:02.879 changed. All of a sudden, the arguing stopped, 00:08:03.079 --> 00:08:06.180 the complaining stopped, the mom and dad changed 00:08:06.180 --> 00:08:08.160 radically. I mean, they were always loving and 00:08:08.160 --> 00:08:11.160 kind and very wonderful to me as their son and 00:08:11.160 --> 00:08:13.740 our family, but... I knew that something changed. 00:08:14.000 --> 00:08:16.560 They were different. They were absolutely changed, 00:08:16.819 --> 00:08:18.959 totally changed. And that's by the power of the 00:08:18.959 --> 00:08:22.050 Holy Spirit. And so they realized that... Showing 00:08:22.050 --> 00:08:24.629 love was more important than proving their point. 00:08:24.850 --> 00:08:26.790 I hope that sticks with some people because you 00:08:26.790 --> 00:08:28.589 might come from a family where some of that stuff 00:08:28.589 --> 00:08:31.189 is taking place. Pray for your family members that 00:08:33.950 --> 00:08:36.129 that spirit of anger and bitterness and stuff 00:08:36.129 --> 00:08:38.210 and unforgiveness that sometimes floats around 00:08:38.210 --> 00:08:40.929 in families, it can be removed through the power 00:08:40.929 --> 00:08:43.429 and the anointing of the Holy Spirit. So I hope 00:08:43.429 --> 00:08:45.509 that might help someone, but I think the Holy 00:08:45.509 --> 00:08:48.549 Spirit gave me some thoughts that we should interject 00:08:48.549 --> 00:08:51.389 into this particular podcast. See, as followers 00:08:51.389 --> 00:08:54.029 of the Lord Jesus Christ, we have the opportunity. 00:08:54.330 --> 00:08:56.049 It doesn't happen automatically, but we have 00:08:56.049 --> 00:09:00.370 the opportunity to rise above our past. Our genealogy 00:09:00.370 --> 00:09:04.629 is not a wall that blocks the changes that need 00:09:04.629 --> 00:09:07.049 to come to our heart. The Holy Spirit wants to 00:09:07.049 --> 00:09:10.629 help us put on our changes. To some, it's instant. 00:09:10.629 --> 00:09:12.549 I mean, it's instant, overnight. And yet, to 00:09:12.549 --> 00:09:15.269 others, it may take time. It may take years for 00:09:15.269 --> 00:09:18.529 people to change. In 00:10:07.429 --> 00:10:10.529 2 Timothy chapter 3 verse 16 in the New Living 00:10:10.529 --> 00:10:12.730 Translation, here's what it says, all scripture, 00:10:12.889 --> 00:10:15.149 that's all, every single bit of it, all scripture 00:10:15.149 --> 00:10:18.769 is inspired by God and is useful to teach us 00:10:18.769 --> 00:10:22.370 what is true and to make us realize what is wrong 00:10:22.370 --> 00:10:24.830 in our lives. Now that's really quite a scripture, 00:10:24.929 --> 00:10:26.399 isn't it? When you think about how the Holy Holy 00:10:26.399 --> 00:10:28.620 Spirit wants to help us. He wants to bless us. 00:10:28.720 --> 00:10:30.500 Yeah, but he also wants to correct us. It is 00:10:51.840 --> 00:10:56.480 useful to teach us. what is true and to make 00:10:56.480 --> 00:11:01.200 us realize what is wrong in our lives. That's 00:11:01.200 --> 00:11:03.279 the beauty of the Holy Spirit. He will tell me, 00:11:03.320 --> 00:11:05.539 hey, you weren't very nice to that person or 00:11:05.539 --> 00:11:07.620 you didn't talk real... friendly to your wife 00:11:07.620 --> 00:11:09.480 or you didn't say something nice to your son. 00:11:09.700 --> 00:11:11.580 You need to go back and correct that. And I just, 00:11:11.720 --> 00:11:13.179 I really love that when that happens. I don't 00:11:13.179 --> 00:11:15.500 feel like I'm in trouble. I just feel like thank 00:11:15.500 --> 00:11:19.019 you that I can go patch that up and heal it up 00:11:19.019 --> 00:11:21.659 before it gets worse. That's why the Holy Spirit 00:11:21.659 --> 00:11:23.899 wants us to follow Him and that's why we need 00:11:23.899 --> 00:11:25.899 the promises of the Holy Spirit and want to listen 00:11:25.899 --> 00:11:30.080 to His promises. Now think about how we can receive 00:11:30.080 --> 00:11:32.940 Holy Spirit promises, okay? How can we actually 00:11:32.940 --> 00:11:35.809 receive them? Well, we receive them when we understand 00:11:35.809 --> 00:11:37.789 them and we understand them through the Holy 00:11:37.789 --> 00:11:40.049 Spirit and through reading the Word of God. In 00:11:40.049 --> 00:11:43.330 Psalm 119, 105, New Living Translation, listen 00:11:43.330 --> 00:11:46.830 to this, your word is a lamp to guide my feet 00:11:46.830 --> 00:11:50.240 and a light for my... Wow. So God's Word is the 00:11:50.240 --> 00:11:52.360 one who lights up the direction we should go 00:11:52.360 --> 00:11:54.600 and keeps us on the right path. The Holy Spirit 00:11:54.600 --> 00:11:57.440 is the one that keeps us on the right path. The 00:11:57.440 --> 00:12:00.120 path to make the right decisions, the path to 00:12:00.120 --> 00:12:03.080 have wisdom, the path to have knowledge for something, 00:12:03.279 --> 00:12:05.279 the path to know what is right and what's going 00:12:05.279 --> 00:12:07.360 to become a problem, those are all things that 00:12:07.360 --> 00:12:10.120 the Holy Spirit will help us with if we surrender 00:12:10.120 --> 00:12:12.600 to Him and we do that through prayer, through 00:12:12.600 --> 00:12:14.980 reading God's Word and seeking out the Holy Spirit. 00:12:15.039 --> 00:12:17.620 Here's another scripture, Luke chapter 17, 19. 00:12:17.519 --> 00:12:20.019 New International Version. It's one I use a lot 00:12:20.019 --> 00:12:22.059 when I pray for people who are sick and having 00:12:22.059 --> 00:12:25.220 physical problems. Jesus is talking here and 00:12:25.220 --> 00:12:28.580 he said this to a man who needed healing. He 00:12:28.580 --> 00:12:31.279 said, your faith has made you well. You see, 00:12:31.580 --> 00:12:35.019 that scripture made a massive change in my life 00:12:35.019 --> 00:12:37.259 when I was diagnosed with incurable bone marrow 00:12:37.259 --> 00:12:39.679 cancer, diagnosed with and wound up losing my 00:12:39.679 --> 00:12:42.639 right kidney to cancer. And those are the types 00:12:42.639 --> 00:12:45.620 of ways that the Holy Spirit, his promises are 00:12:45.620 --> 00:12:48.070 real because his promises are His Word. The Word 00:12:48.070 --> 00:12:49.970 of God are the promises. Some people say, well, 00:12:49.990 --> 00:12:51.750 I don't have any of the gifts or any of the promises 00:12:51.750 --> 00:12:53.990 of God. Well, we all have the Word. It was... 00:18:52.140 --> 00:18:54.660 almost automatic I got saved and within a matter 00:18:54.660 --> 00:18:56.700 of a couple months I was told my kidneys were 00:18:56.700 --> 00:18:58.920 completely shot they were gone and the doctor 00:18:58.920 --> 00:19:00.779 said I'm sorry to tell you this but you have 00:19:00.779 --> 00:19:03.099 a terrible kidney disease it came from your service 00:19:03.099 --> 00:19:05.519 in Vietnam the exposure you had we checked your 00:19:05.519 --> 00:19:08.059 records and yes the military has all kinds of 00:19:08.059 --> 00:19:09.799 records showing that you had kidney disease that 00:19:09.799 --> 00:19:11.920 came apart because of the conditions you lived 00:19:11.920 --> 00:19:15.359 there in Vietnam and so therefore That has never 00:19:15.359 --> 00:19:17.460 changed and now it's worse than it's ever been 00:19:17.460 --> 00:19:19.859 and your kidneys are failing you and they won't 00:19:19.859 --> 00:19:22.440 last much longer. I was 25. My wife and I were 00:19:22.440 --> 00:19:24.700 expecting our second child. We had just become 00:19:24.700 --> 00:19:26.740 brand new followers of the Lord Jesus Christ. 00:19:26.859 --> 00:19:28.440 It probably couldn't have come at a better time 00:19:28.440 --> 00:19:30.700 that diagnosis because we were just filled with 00:19:30.700 --> 00:19:32.400 faith. And so I looked at the doctor and I said, 00:19:32.440 --> 00:19:34.140 so what do we do? And he said, there's nothing 00:19:34.140 --> 00:19:36.119 to do. Just drink a lot of water and come back 00:19:36.119 --> 00:19:38.299 in six months and we'll see how bad they are 00:19:38.299 --> 00:19:40.539 and how much longer you have to live. Isn't that 00:19:40.539 --> 00:19:43.339 nice? Anyways, so I went away for six months. 00:19:43.849 --> 00:19:46.089 and I prayed. We claimed the promises of God. 00:19:46.170 --> 00:19:47.849 We asked the Holy Spirit to help us. We asked 00:19:47.849 --> 00:19:49.349 for the gift of healing. We asked for the gift 00:19:49.349 --> 00:19:51.890 of miracles. We believed, we believed, we believed 00:19:51.890 --> 00:19:54.210 in God. We had other friends of ours praying 00:19:54.210 --> 00:19:56.190 the same way and God was so faithful. I went 00:19:56.190 --> 00:19:58.549 back in six months, went to see the doctor. He 00:19:58.549 --> 00:20:00.430 did all the testing on me. I met in his office. 00:20:00.470 --> 00:20:02.470 He looked at me and he said, what did you do? 00:20:02.599 --> 00:20:04.440 I said, well, we drank a lot of water. He said, 00:20:04.559 --> 00:20:07.099 OK. And we prayed. And he said, really? That's 00:20:07.099 --> 00:20:09.119 all you did? I said, well, that's not all we 00:20:09.119 --> 00:20:10.700 did. That's everything that we did. We drank 00:20:10.700 --> 00:20:12.940 water and we prayed. He said, well, your kidneys 00:20:12.940 --> 00:20:15.779 have been completely restored. I mean, completely, 00:20:15.880 --> 00:20:17.940 totally restored. They're like you've never had 00:20:17.940 --> 00:20:19.880 a disease at all. They're functioning normal, 00:20:20.019 --> 00:20:22.140 perfectly normal. And I'm telling you, that was 00:20:22.140 --> 00:20:25.079 just an absolute miracle from God. The Holy Spirit 00:20:25.079 --> 00:20:27.359 gave us peace. We were new Christians. And the 00:20:27.359 --> 00:20:29.500 devil came to kill, to steal, and destroy. And 00:20:29.500 --> 00:20:31.640 yet Jesus came that we could give in life and 00:20:31.640 --> 00:20:33.339 give in more. more abundantly. That's John 10, 00:20:33.339 --> 00:20:36.400 10. So Jesus decided my life wasn't over and 00:20:36.400 --> 00:20:38.779 healed that kidney condition. We took no other 00:20:38.779 --> 00:20:41.460 medication, absolutely nothing. I could not have 00:20:41.460 --> 00:20:44.619 a kidney transplant because at 25, that was many, 00:20:44.700 --> 00:20:47.599 many years ago, the chances of survival and my 00:20:47.599 --> 00:20:49.900 condition were very slim. And the guy didn't, 00:20:49.940 --> 00:20:52.299 the doctor didn't think I had any chance of surviving 00:20:52.299 --> 00:20:54.480 a kidney transplant because they just, it was 00:20:54.480 --> 00:20:56.299 new. It was something they weren't doing a lot 00:20:56.299 --> 00:20:58.339 of. And besides I had a blood condition on top 00:20:58.339 --> 00:21:00.099 of it. Well, by the way, God healed that blood 00:21:00.099 --> 00:21:02.539 condition also. So bottom line, those things 00:21:02.539 --> 00:21:04.700 happen, and we just give God all the glory and 00:21:04.700 --> 00:21:07.559 all the praise. Now, what did the Holy Spirit 00:21:07.559 --> 00:21:11.440 tell me to do when I needed to be healed? Read 00:21:11.440 --> 00:21:14.420 His Word, claim His promises, and trust God. 00:21:14.559 --> 00:21:16.700 All those things. That was all at once, and that's 00:21:16.700 --> 00:21:18.779 what we had to hang on to. I didn't go back to 00:21:18.779 --> 00:21:21.099 the doctor for six months, but after six months, 00:21:21.279 --> 00:21:23.160 He was looking at me and saying, this is a miracle. 00:21:23.339 --> 00:21:27.039 I was directed by the Holy Spirit first to immerse. 00:21:27.099 --> 00:21:30.579 myself in God's Word. Matter of fact, it was amazing that 00:23:26.319 --> 00:23:27.900 just before that happened there was a little 00:23:27.900 --> 00:23:30.339 boy in our church who had kidney failure. He 00:23:30.339 --> 00:23:32.680 was like four or five years old. And I prayed 00:23:32.680 --> 00:23:35.920 over him and he was healed. It wasn't me, it 00:23:35.920 --> 00:23:38.200 was the power of God and He was healed and this 00:23:38.200 --> 00:23:40.920 happened just a few months before I was diagnosed 00:23:40.920 --> 00:23:43.519 with a terminal kidney illness which didn't turn 00:23:43.519 --> 00:23:45.779 out to be terminal at all. So I started praying 00:23:45.779 --> 00:23:47.900 for others and God then told me to even pray 00:23:47.900 --> 00:23:50.180 more for others, find people with physical challenges 00:23:50.180 --> 00:23:52.299 and pray for them and tell them about what you're 00:23:52.299 --> 00:23:54.480 praying for yourself but pray for them and that 00:23:54.480 --> 00:23:56.920 was very beneficial. People were blessed by that. 00:23:57.059 --> 00:23:59.759 The third decision was to be in church whenever 00:23:59.759 --> 00:24:02.859 the doors were open. Don't miss gathering together 00:24:02.859 --> 00:24:05.440 with the people of God.
