See, the Apostle Paul 00:01:23.090 --> 00:01:25.829 wrote several powerful scriptures in the book 00:01:25.829 --> 00:01:28.430 of Galatians on the Holy Spirit and His power, 00:01:28.430 --> 00:01:30.430 so let's get into those, because I just want 00:01:30.430 --> 00:01:33.049 to focus today's podcast discussion on what the 00:01:33.049 --> 00:01:35.370 Word of God has to say and how the Holy Spirit 00:01:35.370 --> 00:01:37.510 inspired Paul to write these things. We'll start 00:01:37.510 --> 00:01:40.810 with Galatians chapter 5 verse 16 in the New 00:01:40.810 --> 00:01:43.269 Living Translation. Listen to this, so I say 00:01:43.269 --> 00:01:46.030 let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. It says 00:01:46.030 --> 00:01:49.609 then you won't be doing what your sinful nature 00:01:49.609 --> 00:01:52.609 desires are. Or like the New Living Translation 00:01:52.609 --> 00:01:56.090 uses the word craves, the craving of our desires, 00:01:56.209 --> 00:01:59.109 the sinful desires that the Holy Spirit fights 00:01:59.109 --> 00:02:01.709 and helps us to control them. You know, this 00:02:01.709 --> 00:02:04.010 scripture tells us there's so much, but it tells 00:02:04.010 --> 00:02:06.109 us the things that I think are so important. 00:02:06.290 --> 00:02:08.830 Talking about guiding our lives. You know, the 00:02:08.830 --> 00:02:10.909 only way that we can allow someone to guide us 00:02:10.909 --> 00:02:13.110 if we surrender to them. So we need to learn 00:02:13.110 --> 00:02:16.250 how to surrender to the Holy Spirit. To submit 00:02:16.250 --> 00:02:18.930 to the Holy Spirit. Getting ready to go talk to 00:02:43.150 --> 00:02:46.469 maybe your kids or to your boss at work or someone. 00:02:46.930 --> 00:02:49.729 Holy Spirit, help me, guide me, direct me, and 00:02:49.729 --> 00:02:52.969 lead me, and guide my thoughts, guide what comes 00:02:52.969 --> 00:02:55.870 out of my mouth, and direct me. When I've had a day 00:03:11.050 --> 00:03:12.719 where I've been asking the Holy Spirit to lead 00:03:12.719 --> 00:03:15.379 me on a day when I just kind of tried to do things 00:03:15.379 --> 00:03:17.599 on my own. And when I try to do things on my 00:03:17.599 --> 00:03:19.960 own, it just doesn't seem to flow. But when the 00:03:19.960 --> 00:03:22.639 Holy Spirit is guiding us and directing us and 00:03:22.639 --> 00:03:25.479 leading us, things flow smoothly. Now, it may 00:03:25.479 --> 00:03:27.159 be something that we're struggling with. You 00:03:27.159 --> 00:03:29.979 may think it's not smooth, but if the Holy Spirit 00:03:29.979 --> 00:03:33.060 is leading it, it's smooth, it's direct, it's 00:03:33.060 --> 00:03:35.879 peaceful, and it's designed to help us and to 00:03:35.879 --> 00:03:38.439 bless us and to strengthen us. Now, Paul continues 00:03:38.439 --> 00:03:39.819 to write in a lot of scriptures. I'm going to 00:03:39.819 --> 00:03:41.620 use several of them today. Here's another one. 00:03:41.580 --> 00:03:44.699 in Galatians chapter 5 and verse 17, in the New 00:03:44.699 --> 00:03:48.099 Living Translation, the sinful nature wants to 00:03:48.099 --> 00:03:51.319 do evil, which is just the opposite of what the 00:03:51.319 --> 00:03:54.120 spirit wants, and the spirit gives us desires 00:03:54.120 --> 00:03:57.039 that are the opposite of what the sinful nature 00:03:57.039 --> 00:04:01.219 desires. These two forces are constantly fighting 00:04:01.219 --> 00:04:05.080 each other, so you are not free to carry out 00:04:05.080 --> 00:04:07.819 your good intentions. Now, I'm telling you, that 00:04:07.819 --> 00:04:10.599 scripture just describes everything I've been 00:04:10.599 --> 00:04:13.300 talking about over the last 35 weeks in this 00:04:13.300 --> 00:04:16.360 podcast about the Holy Spirit. It really addresses 00:04:16.360 --> 00:04:18.720 all the issues of life that we have to deal with. 00:04:18.779 --> 00:04:21.139 Let's just go a little slower through that scripture. 00:04:21.220 --> 00:04:23.019 I sometimes have a tendency to read scriptures 00:04:23.019 --> 00:04:25.519 a little too fast and of course sometimes I just 00:04:25.519 --> 00:04:28.019 talk too fast and you can say amen to that but 00:04:28.019 --> 00:04:30.939 I'm trying to slow down and let the Holy Spirit 00:04:30.939 --> 00:04:33.300 guide us. Now listen once again to these words. 00:04:33.339 --> 00:04:36.220 It's so important. It says the sinful nature 00:04:36.220 --> 00:04:38.759 wants to do evil. Well we know that. When an 00:04:38.759 --> 00:04:40.649 evil thought enters in our mind It's not the 00:04:40.649 --> 00:04:42.829 Holy Spirit. That evil thought is the devil. 00:04:42.949 --> 00:04:45.410 He's the one that's trying to tempt us, to try 00:04:45.410 --> 00:04:47.389 and destroy us and to kill us. That's what it 00:04:47.389 --> 00:04:50.350 says in John 10, 10. The thief, that's what Jesus 00:04:50.350 --> 00:04:52.110 called him, who is the Holy Spirit, the thief 00:04:52.110 --> 00:04:54.850 comes to steal, to kill and destroy. But Jesus 00:04:54.850 --> 00:04:56.970 said, I've come to give you life and give it 00:04:56.970 --> 00:04:59.350 to you more abundantly. So the sinful nature 00:04:59.350 --> 00:05:01.670 wants to do evil. That's the devil, which is 00:05:01.670 --> 00:05:04.629 just the opposite of what the spirit wants. That 00:05:04.629 --> 00:05:06.689 means the spirit of God who lives and dwells 00:05:06.689 --> 00:05:10.149 in every follower of the Lord Jesus Christ. guides. 00:05:10.709 --> 00:05:14.089 us and gives us direction and guides our desires. 00:05:14.149 --> 00:05:16.970 It says that those are things that are all opposite 00:05:16.970 --> 00:05:19.769 of what the sinful nature wants. So it's so easy 00:05:19.769 --> 00:05:22.149 to identify the difference between the leading 00:05:22.149 --> 00:05:25.930 of the Holy Spirit and the information that comes 00:05:25.930 --> 00:05:28.050 from the devil himself. The devil comes to kill, 00:05:28.209 --> 00:05:29.850 steal, and destroy. Therefore, he comes to give 00:05:29.850 --> 00:05:32.129 us a negative thought, a bad thought. We talk 00:05:32.129 --> 00:05:34.350 to someone and we get away from that conversation. 00:05:34.389 --> 00:05:36.329 We start thinking about all the negative things 00:05:36.329 --> 00:05:38.430 that were discussed or could have been discussed 00:05:38.430 --> 00:05:40.069 or could have been said or should have been said 00:05:40.069 --> 00:05:43.149 that that negative stuff is not from the Holy 00:05:43.149 --> 00:05:45.250 Spirit that negative stuff comes directly from 00:05:45.250 --> 00:05:47.689 the thief and we need to understand that so we 00:05:47.689 --> 00:05:49.810 can walk in the power of the Holy Spirit and 00:05:49.810 --> 00:05:52.949 it says that these these two forces the Spirit 00:05:52.949 --> 00:05:55.370 of God and the Spirit of the devil himself you 00:05:55.370 --> 00:05:57.990 know are constantly fighting and it's just inside 00:05:57.990 --> 00:06:00.189 of us each and every day I remember years ago 00:06:00.189 --> 00:06:03.009 I was watching a cartoon as a kid and way way 00:06:03.009 --> 00:06:05.589 back when I was in a Christian and didn't know 00:06:05.589 --> 00:06:07.610 the Lord Jesus Christ but I was a kid and I'd 00:06:07.610 --> 00:06:10.050 watch a cartoon and it was this one cartoon where 00:06:10.050 --> 00:06:13.029 either the person or the animal, whichever it 00:06:13.029 --> 00:06:15.050 was, would be thinking about something good to 00:06:15.050 --> 00:06:16.709 do or something bad to do. And then they would 00:06:16.709 --> 00:06:19.670 show like an angel on one shoulder telling them 00:06:19.670 --> 00:06:21.529 all the good things to do. And then another, 00:06:21.769 --> 00:06:24.050 a devil on his other shoulder, these little drawings. 00:06:24.149 --> 00:06:26.170 And I remember that as a kid. And the devil would 00:06:26.170 --> 00:06:28.149 be saying, no, go ahead and get even. Go ahead 00:06:28.149 --> 00:06:30.290 and hit that kid or smack that kid or tell them 00:06:30.290 --> 00:06:32.209 off or whatever. And the angel would be saying, 00:06:32.329 --> 00:06:35.410 no, be peaceful and be kind and be gentle and 00:06:35.410 --> 00:06:38.579 be loving. And it's as simple as that. It really 00:06:38.579 --> 00:06:41.339 is as simple as that when we want to be led by 00:06:41.339 --> 00:06:43.779 the Holy Spirit and operate in the power of the 00:06:43.779 --> 00:06:47.759 Holy Spirit is that we can easily identify which 00:06:47.759 --> 00:06:49.899 spirit is trying to come after us. Whether it's 00:06:49.899 --> 00:06:52.519 the beautiful spirit of the Holy Spirit or it's 00:06:52.519 --> 00:06:54.819 the medieval spirit that wants to come in and 00:06:54.819 --> 00:06:58.100 just mess with our mind and our hearts. So I 00:06:58.100 --> 00:06:59.980 hope that's helpful. I don't know any better 00:06:59.980 --> 00:07:03.240 way to describe how I feel. Galatians 5 .17, 00:07:03.240 --> 00:07:05.680 how it tells us what to do and the instructions 00:07:05.680 --> 00:07:10.240 that Paul is giving us. chapter 5 in, let's see, 00:07:10.360 --> 00:07:12.959 verse 19, 20, 21, I think we'll kind of go over 00:07:12.959 --> 00:07:16.339 all those. When you follow the desires of your 00:07:16.339 --> 00:07:18.480 sinful nature, okay, now we instantly know where 00:07:18.480 --> 00:07:21.220 that's coming from, right? The results are very 00:07:21.220 --> 00:07:25.259 clear. Sexual immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures. 00:07:25.579 --> 00:07:28.740 Then Paul says he continues to list our wrong 00:07:28.740 --> 00:07:32.920 desires in verse 20. He says, idolatry and sorcery 00:07:32.920 --> 00:07:35.959 and hostility and quarreling and jealousy and 00:07:35.959 --> 00:07:39.339 outbursts of anger, selfish ambitions, dissension, 00:07:39.720 --> 00:07:43.519 division and envy, all those things are being 00:07:43.519 --> 00:07:46.680 looted. introduced to us or fed into us by the 00:07:46.680 --> 00:07:49.540 evil spirit of Satan himself. But the Holy Spirit 00:07:49.540 --> 00:07:52.160 wants us to focus on him. He wants us to focus 00:07:52.160 --> 00:07:54.740 on God's Word. He wants to focus on how we can 00:07:54.740 --> 00:07:57.959 overcome these things and rise above these things. 00:07:58.079 --> 00:08:00.379 So let me just kind of take a second and kind 00:08:00.379 --> 00:08:02.620 of analyze a little bit more, Galatians chapter 00:08:02.620 --> 00:08:06.519 5, verses 19, 20, and 21. Because all of us need 00:08:06.519 --> 00:08:08.279 help with these things. Some of the challenges 00:08:08.279 --> 00:08:11.060 that we face, Paul listed them. And so I want 00:08:11.060 --> 00:08:12.779 to pray for you. I think that's how I'm going 00:08:12.779 --> 00:08:15.649 to address it. pray for you so that as I pray 00:08:15.649 --> 00:08:17.529 for you the thing that you're struggling with 00:08:17.529 --> 00:08:19.750 maybe you'll be able to identify that and say 00:08:19.750 --> 00:08:21.970 I take authority over that in Jesus name and 00:08:21.970 --> 00:08:24.009 I rebuke that I don't want that in my life I 00:08:24.009 --> 00:08:26.149 don't want that stuff in my life so look what 00:08:26.149 --> 00:08:28.949 Paul said when you follow the desires of your 00:08:28.949 --> 00:08:32.309 sinful nature the results are sexual immorality 00:08:32.309 --> 00:08:34.269 and on and on so let's let's address those Heavenly 00:08:34.269 --> 00:08:36.750 Father I pray Lord that the Holy Spirit would 00:08:36.750 --> 00:08:38.909 help each and every person who's struggling with 00:08:38.909 --> 00:08:41.450 sexual immorality Lord and the Spirit of God 00:08:41.450 --> 00:08:43.830 would rise up in them and deliver them from it. 00:08:43.970 --> 00:08:46.029 And Father, for those who are being challenged 00:08:46.029 --> 00:08:49.549 with impurities, improper thoughts, Father, that 00:08:49.549 --> 00:08:51.769 the Holy Spirit, Lord, would bless them. And 00:08:51.769 --> 00:08:54.629 Lord, when Paul identifies those who are following 00:08:54.629 --> 00:08:58.070 the desires of the flesh, they'll have lustful... 00:08:57.929 --> 00:09:01.490 pleasures and evil thoughts. And I pray now that 00:09:01.490 --> 00:09:03.649 the Holy Spirit would go upon those that are 00:09:03.649 --> 00:09:05.250 struggling with those areas, Lord, and give them 00:09:05.250 --> 00:09:07.509 comfort and peace. And Lord, where Paul writes 00:09:07.509 --> 00:09:09.750 further comments that are even heavier, it seems 00:09:09.750 --> 00:09:12.429 like, Father, idolatry, Lord, may all of us, 00:09:12.429 --> 00:09:14.870 Lord, run from anything that could be idolatry. 00:09:15.370 --> 00:09:17.950 Idolatry could be in the form, Lord, of just 00:09:17.950 --> 00:09:21.230 worshiping golf or worshiping a hobby or worshiping 00:09:21.230 --> 00:09:23.509 money, whatever it might be. That's idolatry 00:09:23.509 --> 00:09:25.970 and evil thought. Holy Spirit, help us to rise 00:09:25.970 --> 00:09:29.769 above that. And Lord, those of us who maybe struggled 00:09:29.769 --> 00:09:32.570 when we were kids like I was, who looked at Ouija 00:09:32.570 --> 00:09:35.929 boards and read these crazy fortunes and things 00:09:35.929 --> 00:09:37.929 like that. I thank you that you've taken that 00:09:37.929 --> 00:09:39.629 out of my heart and out of my mind. I pray you 00:09:39.629 --> 00:09:41.549 would help those that might be struggling with 00:09:41.549 --> 00:09:43.509 that, Father. And the reading of horoscopes, 00:09:43.529 --> 00:09:46.330 which is totally contrary to God's Word. God's 00:09:46.330 --> 00:09:48.490 Word has the definition and the strength and 00:09:48.490 --> 00:09:50.769 the guidance that we need. We should run from 00:09:50.769 --> 00:09:53.029 those things, Father, that are opposite of what 00:09:53.029 --> 00:09:55.269 the Word of God is. And Father, Lord Paul talked 00:09:55.269 --> 00:09:57.870 about hostility. Help those those who are being 00:09:57.870 --> 00:10:00.950 challenged with hostility or quarreling, Father, 00:10:01.129 --> 00:10:04.370 that they get upset easily, outbursts of anger 00:10:04.370 --> 00:10:06.529 is what Paul calls it. Lord, help them, Lord, 00:10:06.529 --> 00:10:09.250 to deal with each one of us when we struggle 00:10:09.250 --> 00:10:12.470 with thinking badly about other people. And jealousy, 00:10:12.490 --> 00:10:14.950 Father, help us, Lord, to not be jealous of anyone, 00:10:15.029 --> 00:10:17.289 Father, and that we should always be thankful 00:10:17.289 --> 00:10:20.490 to you for who we are and our situation in life 00:10:20.490 --> 00:10:22.389 and the plan that you have for each and every 00:10:22.389 --> 00:10:24.789 one of us. And help each one of us, Father, to 00:10:24.789 --> 00:10:36.480 rebuke and take I pray in the name of Jesus for 00:10:36.480 --> 00:10:38.759 those who are listening in today that they would 00:10:38.759 --> 00:10:41.000 have power by the Holy Spirit to take authority 00:10:41.000 --> 00:10:43.360 over all these things and that they would be 00:10:43.360 --> 00:10:46.360 cast out and set aside and they'd be replaced 00:10:46.360 --> 00:10:48.669 with the power of God, the strength of God, the 00:10:48.669 --> 00:10:51.149 peace of God that surpasses all understanding 00:10:51.149 --> 00:10:53.190 and it'll guard each and every one of our minds 00:10:53.190 --> 00:10:55.690 in Christ Jesus. I ask all these things now in 00:10:55.690 --> 00:10:58.490 Jesus name I pray, Amen. Well that was kind of 00:10:58.490 --> 00:11:01.149 a long prayer but I think it's necessary to be 00:11:01.149 --> 00:11:03.850 able to understand all the areas that Paul is 00:11:03.850 --> 00:11:06.730 addressing and all the areas of Holy Spirit power 00:11:06.730 --> 00:11:09.230 that we can have in our life. Now Paul goes on 00:11:09.230 --> 00:11:11.870 to continue writing in Galatians chapter 5 verse 00:11:11.870 --> 00:11:14.509 22. I'm reading out of the New Living Translation 00:11:14.509 --> 00:11:17.409 and we're going to continue that to show us the 00:11:17.409 --> 00:11:20.529 Holy Spirit's ability to have power to help us 00:11:20.529 --> 00:11:22.669 in our life and everything. Galatians chapter 00:11:22.669 --> 00:11:26.570 5 verse 22 -23 in the New Living Translation. 00:11:26.750 --> 00:11:29.830 But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit. 00:11:29.850 --> 00:11:31.950 Now we're going to switch over from the evil 00:11:31.950 --> 00:11:34.889 thoughts that the devil gives us, the desires 00:11:34.889 --> 00:11:36.769 that he's tempting us with, and all that stuff 00:11:36.769 --> 00:11:38.830 that we just covered. And we rebuke all that 00:11:38.830 --> 00:11:41.210 and move away from that. And Paul now is giving 00:11:41.210 --> 00:11:43.710 us the instructions on how we can have wonderful 00:11:43.710 --> 00:11:46.289 things in our life. In Galatians chapter 5, verse 00:11:46.289 --> 00:11:50.549 22, 23, but the Holy Spirit produces this kind 00:11:50.549 --> 00:11:52.769 of fruit. Now, fruit is something that grows, 00:11:52.809 --> 00:11:54.970 right? It's produced. So we want to have this 00:11:54.970 --> 00:11:58.070 kind of fruit being produced in our life. And 00:11:58.070 --> 00:12:00.769 he continues to say, this kind of fruit in our 00:12:00.769 --> 00:12:04.409 lives, love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, 00:12:04.750 --> 00:12:08.399 goodness. faithfulness, gentleness and self -control. 00:12:08.679 --> 00:12:11.259 And it goes on to say, then Paul writes, there's 00:12:11.259 --> 00:12:14.840 no law against these things. What Paul is saying 00:12:14.840 --> 00:12:16.700 is there's no law against the fruit of the Spirit. 00:12:16.820 --> 00:12:19.799 There's no law that says we can't have this in 00:12:19.799 --> 00:12:21.860 our life and that we can't seek that in our life. 00:12:22.179 --> 00:12:25.019 All of the fruit of the Spirit align with God's 00:12:25.019 --> 00:12:29.179 will for us. Think of that, all of God's anointing 00:12:29.179 --> 00:12:32.149 of the Holy Spirit aligns according to God's 00:12:32.149 --> 00:12:35.149 will in us. So let's look at all of these fruit 00:12:35.149 --> 00:12:38.490 of the Spirit and cover them and kind of think 00:12:38.490 --> 00:12:40.789 about how they affect our lives. We did that 00:12:40.789 --> 00:12:43.330 with the evil desire, so why don't we counteract 00:12:43.330 --> 00:12:45.879 that and take authority over that other... junk, 00:12:45.899 --> 00:12:47.940 Lord, and allow these things to be in our life. 00:12:48.059 --> 00:12:49.700 And so I'm going to pray.
