Amen. Well, as I've mentioned 00:01:31.799 --> 00:01:35.000 in previous podcasts, the Holy Spirit prays for 00:01:35.000 --> 00:01:38.879 us. He prays for us to do God's will. He prays 00:01:38.879 --> 00:01:41.939 exactly what we need and He's our intercessor. 00:01:42.060 --> 00:01:44.799 He is our connector with God the Father. The 00:01:44.799 --> 00:01:48.040 Holy Spirit has a purpose to help believers and 00:01:48.040 --> 00:01:51.760 to draw non -believers to Jesus. You know, that's 00:01:51.760 --> 00:01:54.840 really His primary focus is to minister to us 00:01:54.840 --> 00:01:57.280 and help us because Jesus said when He left this 00:01:57.280 --> 00:02:00.000 earth, He says, I'm going to be leaving I have 00:02:00.000 --> 00:02:01.760 to go and it's better that I go because then 00:02:01.760 --> 00:02:03.859 the Holy Spirit will come and He will comfort 00:02:03.859 --> 00:02:05.719 you and He'll be with you and He'll direct you. 00:02:05.799 --> 00:02:09.439 The Holy Spirit tries to direct us to do God's 00:02:09.439 --> 00:02:11.860 will. I use the word tries because, you know, 00:02:11.960 --> 00:02:14.500 our will can overshadow the will of the Holy 00:02:14.500 --> 00:02:16.860 Spirit. And that means that we do what we want, 00:02:17.020 --> 00:02:18.560 when we want to do it and how we want to do it 00:02:18.560 --> 00:02:20.580 and why we want to do it and to whom ever we 00:02:20.580 --> 00:02:23.680 want to do it to. And that's not following God's 00:02:23.680 --> 00:02:26.280 will. And so the Holy Spirit can only attempt 00:02:26.280 --> 00:02:29.520 and try to direct us to do God's will. and that 00:02:29.520 --> 00:02:32.840 is his job, that's his assignment. And we then 00:02:32.840 --> 00:02:36.120 need to understand that our will has to be secondary 00:02:36.120 --> 00:02:38.960 to God's will, always in every situation. The 00:02:38.960 --> 00:02:41.939 Holy Spirit wants us to be delighted in doing 00:02:41.939 --> 00:02:43.560 God's will. I'm going to talk about that a little 00:02:43.560 --> 00:02:45.919 bit more in a moment, but think about that. Be 00:02:45.919 --> 00:02:48.539 delighted. Not, oh, God, I know your will, and 00:02:48.539 --> 00:02:49.800 oh, I don't know how that's going to happen, 00:02:49.879 --> 00:02:52.479 and oh, I don't think I can do that. And we do 00:02:52.479 --> 00:02:54.699 make all those statements when we know what God's 00:02:54.699 --> 00:02:57.039 will is. In my own life, I've had times when 00:02:57.039 --> 00:02:59.219 I was in ministry, and I wanted to get out of 00:02:59.219 --> 00:03:01.020 ministry. And I knew it was God's will that I 00:03:01.020 --> 00:03:02.979 stayed in ministry, but I went ahead and stepped 00:03:02.979 --> 00:03:04.919 out of it anyways. And I struggled. I mean, I 00:03:04.919 --> 00:03:07.560 had a very difficult couple of years until I 00:03:07.560 --> 00:03:10.280 jumped back into doing the will that God had 00:03:10.280 --> 00:03:14.120 placed for me in my life. And so we need to be 00:03:14.120 --> 00:03:16.080 directed and we need to be delighted. We need 00:03:16.080 --> 00:03:18.960 to receive it and take it into our heart and 00:03:18.960 --> 00:03:22.719 our mind, our soul, and make sure that our spirit 00:03:22.719 --> 00:03:25.500 is in total agreement with God's spirit. And 00:03:25.500 --> 00:03:29.150 so therefore, we need to be delighted I'll talk 00:03:29.150 --> 00:03:31.189 more about that in just a second. Now, the Holy 00:03:31.189 --> 00:03:33.629 Spirit does that. He wants us to be delighted 00:03:33.629 --> 00:03:37.110 because our will may be at odds with God's will. 00:03:37.259 --> 00:03:39.939 Matter of fact, many times it is. Even Jesus 00:03:39.939 --> 00:03:42.879 had a brief moment of wanting to do his will. 00:03:43.139 --> 00:03:46.219 You remember back in the Garden of Gethsemane 00:03:46.219 --> 00:03:49.620 where Jesus did not want God's will for the crucifixion, 00:03:49.740 --> 00:03:52.039 but he quickly changed and said this in Luke 00:03:52.039 --> 00:03:55.240 chapter 22 verse 22 in the New International 00:03:55.240 --> 00:03:58.340 Version. Here's what Jesus said, Father, if you 00:03:58.340 --> 00:04:01.490 are willing, take this cup. Now, another translation 00:04:01.490 --> 00:04:05.189 says, Father, if you are willing, take this cup 00:04:05.189 --> 00:04:08.250 of suffering away from me. That's the cup he's 00:04:08.250 --> 00:04:10.469 talking about, and that suffering is the crucifixion 00:04:10.469 --> 00:04:13.349 that's coming up and the humiliation and God 00:04:13.349 --> 00:04:16.850 deserting Jesus here on earth. So, in Luke 22, 00:04:16.889 --> 00:04:20.509 42 in the NIV, when Jesus said, Father, if you 00:04:20.509 --> 00:04:23.529 are willing, take this cup from me, he says, 00:04:23.709 --> 00:04:25.829 yet, but here's a big word, the biggest word 00:04:25.829 --> 00:04:27.889 that we can have many times in our life, yet, 00:04:28.050 --> 00:04:31.730 not my will, yours be done and it must be done 00:04:31.730 --> 00:04:34.870 so it's important that we understand that yet 00:04:34.870 --> 00:04:38.269 that yet is our will wanting to fight God's will 00:04:38.269 --> 00:04:40.410 and that's a battle that takes place in most 00:04:40.410 --> 00:04:42.389 of our lives just about every day there's something 00:04:42.389 --> 00:04:44.889 that we are thinking about that God gets us off 00:04:44.889 --> 00:04:46.949 and tells us that's not right don't think that 00:04:46.949 --> 00:04:49.009 way go in a different direction that's following 00:04:49.009 --> 00:04:50.850 God's will just those little thoughts that we 00:04:50.850 --> 00:04:52.490 have in our mind when all of a sudden we get 00:04:52.490 --> 00:04:54.610 upset with someone someone says something to 00:04:54.610 --> 00:04:56.529 us that we don't appreciate and we want to say 00:04:56.529 --> 00:04:58.959 something back well it's God's will that We don't 00:04:58.959 --> 00:05:02.420 get even with people or judge people or get angry 00:05:02.420 --> 00:05:04.879 with people. We just simply should move forward 00:05:04.879 --> 00:05:07.480 and pray for that person who has given us a difficult 00:05:07.480 --> 00:05:10.100 time. See, the key word in that scripture in 00:05:10.100 --> 00:05:14.500 Luke 22 is yet. We need to say, however, our 00:05:14.500 --> 00:05:18.480 yet, not my will be done, but your will be done 00:05:18.480 --> 00:05:21.759 in every single area of our life. And I'm not 00:05:21.759 --> 00:05:23.879 saying that's easy. I'm not saying that's easy 00:05:23.879 --> 00:05:27.319 at all. It can become very difficult, especially 00:05:27.319 --> 00:05:29.639 when someone that you care for, that you love, 00:05:29.899 --> 00:05:31.800 hurts you. They do something against you. And 00:05:31.800 --> 00:05:34.779 our natural response is, in our own flesh, is 00:05:34.779 --> 00:05:36.259 to want to get even, or want to say something 00:05:36.259 --> 00:05:38.300 back, or want to make a quick statement. But 00:05:38.300 --> 00:05:40.480 I've discovered over the years of being a follower 00:05:40.480 --> 00:05:42.519 of Jesus Christ, and especially as a pastor for 00:05:42.519 --> 00:05:44.839 over 20 years, that I've got to understand that 00:05:44.839 --> 00:05:47.399 people don't always say what they mean. People 00:05:47.399 --> 00:05:50.060 don't say things that really is a good description 00:05:50.060 --> 00:05:52.319 of who they are. They might say that in anger, 00:05:52.480 --> 00:05:54.600 or in frustration, or wherever it might be. And 00:05:54.600 --> 00:05:57.139 they're outside of God's will, and we just to 00:05:57.139 --> 00:05:59.160 pray for them and love on them and care for them 00:05:59.160 --> 00:06:01.120 and help them get them back in. You know getting 00:06:01.120 --> 00:06:03.959 into an argument with someone is really most 00:06:03.959 --> 00:06:06.399 the time just kind of a waste of time. We just 00:06:06.399 --> 00:06:08.579 simply when someone disagrees with us we need 00:06:08.579 --> 00:06:11.019 to pray for them. Bible says pray for those who 00:06:11.019 --> 00:06:13.920 persecute you, who come up against you, who charge 00:06:13.920 --> 00:06:16.959 many things against you. That's just a powerful 00:06:16.959 --> 00:06:19.980 statement that we need to learn in order to do 00:06:19.980 --> 00:06:22.240 that we've got to submit to the Holy Spirit, 00:06:22.259 --> 00:06:25.500 yield to Him and ask Him to know exactly what 00:06:25.500 --> 00:06:28.250 we should do and what God's will is in each situation 00:06:28.250 --> 00:06:31.550 that we have. Now, I love to use the word delight 00:06:31.550 --> 00:06:34.509 when thinking about doing God's will. I mentioned 00:06:34.509 --> 00:06:36.310 this earlier just a little bit, but let's go 00:06:36.310 --> 00:06:38.209 a little bit more into this. I think it's so 00:06:38.209 --> 00:06:40.129 important to understand that word delight. We 00:06:40.129 --> 00:06:43.870 must delight ourselves in God's will. Delight 00:06:43.870 --> 00:06:46.589 ourselves in what He wants us to do. Delight 00:06:46.589 --> 00:06:49.449 ourselves in His goal for us. Delight ourselves 00:06:49.449 --> 00:06:52.959 in what the Holy Spirit tells us to do. the unctioning, 00:06:53.040 --> 00:06:55.300 if you will, the moving of the Holy Spirit, that 00:06:55.300 --> 00:06:57.920 still quiet voice inside of us that tells us 00:06:57.920 --> 00:07:00.500 what to do, how to do it, when to do it, and 00:07:00.500 --> 00:07:02.920 be delighted in that, and be happy to do it, 00:07:02.920 --> 00:07:04.939 even though it may be something we don't quite 00:07:04.939 --> 00:07:08.319 understand. Now in Psalm, chapter 40, verse 8, 00:07:08.399 --> 00:07:10.860 in the New American Standard Version, the psalmist 00:07:10.860 --> 00:07:14.360 said this, I delight to do your will, oh my God. 00:07:14.439 --> 00:07:16.980 Now that's simply as direct as you possibly can 00:07:16.980 --> 00:07:19.860 be. I delight to do your will. And that's where 00:07:19.860 --> 00:07:21.740 we need to get in order to understand how to 00:07:21.740 --> 00:07:24.139 be led by the Holy Spirit to know God's will 00:07:24.139 --> 00:07:27.339 in our life and to run from our will or our thoughts. 00:07:27.560 --> 00:07:29.120 Now that doesn't mean that we don't have good 00:07:29.120 --> 00:07:31.660 ideas and good thoughts, but anything I believe 00:07:31.660 --> 00:07:34.060 that's good, any good thought or idea or plan 00:07:34.060 --> 00:07:36.220 that comes into our mind, we need to give God 00:07:36.220 --> 00:07:38.220 credit for that. We need to thank the Holy Spirit 00:07:38.220 --> 00:07:40.459 for that. I don't like to take credit for anything 00:07:40.459 --> 00:07:42.740 anymore. If I preach a sermon and someone says, 00:07:42.800 --> 00:07:44.300 oh, that was a great message. I don't want to 00:07:44.300 --> 00:07:46.300 say, yeah, well, I put 20 hours in putting it 00:07:46.300 --> 00:07:48.720 together, worked hard on it. No, that's not giving 00:07:48.720 --> 00:07:51.009 God the glory. But when someone says, that was 00:07:51.009 --> 00:07:53.709 a great message or I enjoyed that podcast, I've 00:07:53.709 --> 00:07:55.550 got to immediately tell them the Holy Spirit 00:07:55.550 --> 00:07:57.990 is doing something wonderful and I thank Him 00:07:57.990 --> 00:08:01.009 for giving me what He gave me. for this particular 00:08:01.009 --> 00:08:03.089 podcast or that particular message that I may 00:08:03.089 --> 00:08:05.209 have spoken. Here's another wonderful scripture 00:08:05.209 --> 00:08:08.870 found in the book of Psalms in Psalm 37 verse 00:08:08.870 --> 00:08:11.970 4 in the New Living Translation. Take delight 00:08:11.970 --> 00:08:14.709 in the Lord and he will give you your heart's 00:08:14.709 --> 00:08:16.529 desires. Well, look at that. What a wonderful 00:08:16.529 --> 00:08:18.930 scripture that is. Take delight in him. Once 00:08:18.930 --> 00:08:21.389 again, that word delight jumps into us. The sad 00:08:21.389 --> 00:08:24.250 thing is that we sometimes want to delight in 00:08:24.250 --> 00:08:28.889 ourselves or delight in our desires and not delight 00:08:28.889 --> 00:08:31.410 ourselves in the Lord. Let me make that a little 00:08:31.410 --> 00:08:35.000 clearer. Psalm 37 -4 says this. take delight 00:08:35.000 --> 00:08:37.320 in the Lord and he will give you your heart's 00:08:37.320 --> 00:08:40.480 desires. He is not saying take delight in our 00:08:40.480 --> 00:08:43.059 desires, but many times, I know we're human and 00:08:43.059 --> 00:08:45.919 we have fleshly thoughts and ideas, many times 00:08:45.919 --> 00:08:48.639 we delight in our thoughts. We delight in what 00:08:48.639 --> 00:08:50.879 we want to do. We delight in that new car. We 00:08:50.879 --> 00:08:53.240 delight in that new house. We delight in maybe 00:08:53.240 --> 00:08:55.700 having new friendships. We need to delight ourselves 00:08:55.700 --> 00:08:59.700 in the Lord and then he will give us our heart's 00:08:59.700 --> 00:09:02.700 desire. We can't delight in our desires. We've 00:09:02.700 --> 00:09:05.159 got to delight ourselves. in God and following 00:09:05.159 --> 00:09:08.299 his will in our life. To delight in God, really, 00:09:08.620 --> 00:09:11.120 and to delight in his will is having trust in 00:09:11.120 --> 00:09:13.379 God. We need to trust the Lord with all of our 00:09:13.379 --> 00:09:16.159 heart. We need to not lean on our own understanding. 00:09:16.299 --> 00:09:18.759 We need to acknowledge him in all ways and he 00:09:18.759 --> 00:09:21.620 will direct our path. That's Proverb 3 .5, one 00:09:21.620 --> 00:09:24.059 of my absolute favorites and I know that's a 00:09:24.110 --> 00:09:26.429 very important scripture for all of us to truly 00:09:26.429 --> 00:09:28.669 understand to do God's will and not our will. 00:09:28.889 --> 00:09:32.370 The Apostle Paul wrote an amazing scripture dealing 00:09:32.370 --> 00:09:35.470 with seeking God's will. Really a very powerful 00:09:35.470 --> 00:09:37.389 scripture. When I first read it, you might think, 00:09:37.529 --> 00:09:39.570 well, that doesn't really apply to this podcast, 00:09:39.649 --> 00:09:42.269 but think about it. The podcast is dealing with 00:09:42.269 --> 00:09:45.149 the Holy Spirit and our will, knowing that the 00:09:45.149 --> 00:09:48.450 Holy Spirit is helping us with our will to make 00:09:48.450 --> 00:09:51.309 it become God's will. And the transition, Paul 00:09:51.309 --> 00:09:54.210 talks about that and he doesn't use exact words 00:09:54.210 --> 00:09:56.490 but listen to what he says in in Philippians 00:09:56.490 --> 00:09:59.669 chapter 3 verse 7 and 8 in the new international 00:09:59.669 --> 00:10:01.110 version I'm gonna read it a little bit slower 00:10:01.110 --> 00:10:02.990 because I want you to savor it as I'm reading 00:10:02.990 --> 00:10:06.429 it to you but whatever were gains to me. That's 00:10:06.429 --> 00:10:08.070 what he's saying. Anything that was good in my 00:10:08.070 --> 00:10:10.830 life, I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. 00:10:10.929 --> 00:10:13.070 What he's saying is, anything that I did before 00:10:13.070 --> 00:10:15.269 coming to know Christ wasn't all that important. 00:10:15.409 --> 00:10:18.690 He says in verse 8, what is more, I consider 00:10:18.690 --> 00:10:23.090 everything a loss because of the surpassing worth 00:10:23.090 --> 00:10:26.809 of knowing Christ Jesus, my Lord, for whose sake 00:10:26.809 --> 00:10:29.769 I have lost all things. That basically he's saying 00:10:29.769 --> 00:10:31.970 anything that I want to do, desire to do, my 00:10:31.970 --> 00:10:34.690 will, if it was contrary to God's will. I consider 00:10:34.690 --> 00:10:37.909 them garbage that I may gain Christ." So here 00:10:37.909 --> 00:10:40.649 he's saying that if things are not God's will, 00:10:40.850 --> 00:10:43.190 then it's garbage. It literally is something 00:10:43.190 --> 00:10:45.450 that we should not allow to happen in our life. 00:10:45.509 --> 00:10:47.590 Now that's strong, but it's really wonderful. 00:10:47.950 --> 00:10:49.809 So I would encourage you maybe to go back and 00:10:49.809 --> 00:10:51.710 listen to this portion of the podcast again. 00:10:51.870 --> 00:10:54.769 Read that scripture again, because Paul is basically 00:10:54.769 --> 00:10:57.190 giving us an understanding of the difference 00:10:57.190 --> 00:11:00.350 between knowing his will and knowing God's will. 00:11:00.429 --> 00:11:02.490 Before he came to know Jesus Christ as Lord and 00:11:02.490 --> 00:11:05.000 Savior, everything he did was his will, and it 00:11:05.000 --> 00:11:07.200 didn't turn out very well for him. And after 00:11:07.200 --> 00:11:09.200 he came to know Jesus Christ, so he says everything 00:11:09.200 --> 00:11:11.440 that was done before this, it really wasn't worth 00:11:11.440 --> 00:11:13.740 anything. He even likes to use the word, well 00:11:13.740 --> 00:11:16.460 the translation uses the word garbage, and the 00:11:16.460 --> 00:11:18.860 bottom line of it is that it was worthless. Everything 00:11:18.860 --> 00:11:21.659 that he did before following the divine will 00:11:21.659 --> 00:11:24.320 of God was worthless. Now that doesn't mean that 00:11:24.320 --> 00:11:26.159 we didn't do something good in our life, that 00:11:26.159 --> 00:11:27.879 we didn't have times in our life where things 00:11:27.879 --> 00:11:30.259 were decent and peaceful, but if we truly want 00:11:30.259 --> 00:11:33.440 to have the surpassing worth of Knowledge that 00:11:33.440 --> 00:11:37.240 Paul talks about it the amazing unlimited power 00:11:37.240 --> 00:11:39.480 of God in our life and the anointing of the Holy 00:11:39.480 --> 00:11:42.019 Spirit in our life We've got to shun our will 00:11:42.019 --> 00:11:45.059 and receive God's will and we find that will 00:11:45.059 --> 00:11:47.159 through the leading and guidance in the direction 00:11:47.159 --> 00:11:50.159 of the Holy Spirit I believe all that Paul was 00:11:50.159 --> 00:11:52.539 talking about there was that God's will is what 00:11:52.539 --> 00:11:55.899 Paul wanted He didn't want his own will in his 00:11:55.899 --> 00:11:58.360 life from that day forward now in order to know 00:11:58.360 --> 00:12:01.759 and do God's will we must deny self obviously 00:12:01.679 --> 00:12:04.500 Self is an enemy of God flesh is an enemy of 00:12:04.500 --> 00:12:07.879 God in order to know God's will we must Submit 00:12:07.879 --> 00:12:10.279 ourselves and surrender ourselves and surrender 00:12:10.279 --> 00:12:13.740 our will to the Holy Spirit in 1st Peter chapter 00:12:13.740 --> 00:12:17.299 1 verses 14 through 16 I'm gonna read this out 00:12:17.299 --> 00:12:19.639 of the Bible in a new living translation. Let's 00:12:19.639 --> 00:12:21.799 listen to these words very carefully So you must 00:12:21.799 --> 00:12:24.879 live as God's obedient children Don't slip back 00:12:24.879 --> 00:12:27.879 into your old ways of living to satisfy your 00:12:27.879 --> 00:12:30.460 own desires. You didn't know any better than 00:12:30.639 --> 00:12:34.120 But you must be holy in everything you do, just 00:12:34.120 --> 00:12:37.500 as God who chose you is holy. That is 00:12:54.639 --> 00:12:57.500 not God's will for our life. Peter delighted 00:12:57.500 --> 00:12:59.740 in God's will. Once he understood the difference 00:12:59.740 --> 00:13:01.480 between his will and God's will. He delighted 00:13:01.480 --> 00:13:04.500 in it. Peter desired God's will and he wanted 00:13:04.500 --> 00:13:06.840 the Holy Spirit to direct him. The Bible tells 00:14:46.419 --> 00:14:48.399 us that God's ways are greater than ours, his 00:14:48.399 --> 00:14:50.139 thoughts are greater than ours, so we want to 00:14:50.139 --> 00:14:51.799 have his thoughts, and we want to know his ways, 00:14:51.879 --> 00:14:53.960 and we want to know his plans. But we've got 00:14:53.960 --> 00:14:57.399 to try and stop trying to be holy. We can't do 00:14:57.399 --> 00:15:00.049 that because that's self. trying to become spiritual, 00:15:00.230 --> 00:15:02.190 and that doesn't work. And so therefore we give 00:15:02.190 --> 00:15:04.950 up, we surrender, we deny ourself. The scripture that I just 00:16:51.039 --> 00:16:53.460 read is found in the book of Matthew chapter 00:16:53.460 --> 00:16:56.360 6, like I mentioned, and Jesus is giving instructions 00:16:56.360 --> 00:16:59.179 on teaching about money and possessions and what 00:16:59.179 --> 00:17:01.059 we need and how he's there to take care of us. 00:17:01.080 --> 00:17:03.440 He says in verse 31, so don't worry about these 00:17:03.440 --> 00:17:05.740 things, the things being how you dress and your 00:17:05.740 --> 00:17:07.579 finances and all that good stuff. Don't worry 00:17:07.579 --> 00:17:10.099 about them, saying what we eat and what will 00:17:10.099 --> 00:17:12.299 we drink and what will we wear. He says, these 00:17:12.299 --> 00:17:14.519 things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, 00:17:14.720 --> 00:17:17.059 but your heavenly father already knows all your 00:17:17.059 --> 00:17:18.940 needs. And then he said the powerful words I 00:17:18.940 --> 00:17:22.299 read earlier in... Matthew chapter 6 verse 33 00:17:22.299 --> 00:17:25.460 Jesus said this seek the kingdom of God above 00:17:25.460 --> 00:17:28.519 all else there you go that's key above all else 00:17:28.519 --> 00:17:32.000 and live righteously and he will give you everything 00:17:32.000 --> 00:17:35.059 that you need now that is one of the most powerful 00:17:35.059 --> 00:17:37.579 scriptures that will probably ever try to live 00:17:37.579 --> 00:17:40.720 up to and that is to seek first God in all things 00:17:40.720 --> 00:17:42.759 seek ye first the kingdom of God and when we 00:17:42.759 --> 00:17:45.259 do that then whatever we need God's going to 00:17:45.259 --> 00:17:48.339 supply it according to his riches not ours or 00:17:48.339 --> 00:17:51.009 not the riches of some relative, but the riches 00:17:51.009 --> 00:17:53.170 that God has for each and every one of us. And 00:17:53.170 --> 00:17:55.369 I'm not talking just finances, I'm talking about 00:17:55.369 --> 00:17:58.390 the richness of knowing His will and living the 00:17:58.390 --> 00:18:01.190 life He wants us to live. things that Jesus is 00:18:01.190 --> 00:18:03.789 talking about here are material things, possessions 00:18:03.789 --> 00:18:08.009 and food and shelter and clothes and it's even 00:18:08.009 --> 00:18:10.529 following God's will. He says in all things we're 00:18:10.529 --> 00:18:12.650 to seek God first and seek his kingdom first. 00:18:12.809 --> 00:18:14.569 All right, let's move on. Another scripture I 00:18:14.569 --> 00:18:17.390 think that helps us with understanding how to 00:18:17.390 --> 00:18:20.369 get out of our will and follow the will of the 00:18:20.369 --> 00:18:24.009 Holy Spirit is found in Psalm 37 -4 in the New 00:18:24.009 --> 00:18:26.430 International Version. Listen to this, take delight 00:18:26.430 --> 00:18:28.750 in the Lord and he will give you desires of your 00:18:28.750 --> 00:18:31.740 heart. Now I threw that in a second time. because 00:18:31.740 --> 00:18:34.900 I think that is a big issue with a lot of people 00:18:34.900 --> 00:18:37.980 and struggling to know God's will. They want 00:18:37.980 --> 00:18:40.079 to delight in what they think they should delight 00:18:40.079 --> 00:18:43.140 in rather than delighting in the Lord and then 00:18:43.140 --> 00:18:46.359 trusting God that then he will give us the desires 00:18:46.359 --> 00:18:48.819 that we have. All right, I'll move on. Psalm 00:18:48.819 --> 00:18:52.380 37 .5 in New International Version. Commit your 00:18:52.380 --> 00:18:55.380 way to the Lord. Trust in him and he will do 00:18:55.380 --> 00:19:00.000 this. Okay, that was remember 37 .4 said, take 00:19:00.000 --> 00:19:01.460 delight in the Lord and he'll give you the desires 00:19:01.460 --> 00:19:05.299 of your heart. Then 37 verse five says, commit, 00:19:05.480 --> 00:19:07.720 follow up, you gotta commit. That means absolute 00:19:07.720 --> 00:19:10.720 commitment, total sold out to God. Commit your 00:19:10.720 --> 00:19:12.920 way, whatever you do, whatever we think, whichever 00:19:12.920 --> 00:19:15.299 direction we wanna go. Commit your way, your 00:19:15.299 --> 00:19:18.839 job, your marriage, your finances, your parenting, 00:19:19.079 --> 00:19:21.119 the things that are in your life. We've gotta 00:19:21.119 --> 00:19:24.019 commit them and commit our ways to the Lord. 00:19:24.279 --> 00:19:27.220 Trust in him, all right? Financially, I've 00:19:47.259 --> 00:19:49.240 talked about it in my books on finance, that 00:19:49.240 --> 00:19:51.779 you should never buy a new car every year and 00:19:51.779 --> 00:19:53.859 replace it because you take a beating financially 00:19:53.859 --> 00:19:56.079 on it. It's best to buy a three -year -old car 00:19:56.079 --> 00:19:59.039 every three years and you'll wind up doing much 00:19:58.960 --> 00:20:01.680 better as far as far better than throwing away 00:20:01.680 --> 00:20:03.119 a lot of money and I had a real problem with 00:20:03.119 --> 00:20:05.420 that because I was seeking the desires of my 00:20:05.420 --> 00:20:07.500 heart according to my will according to how I 00:20:07.500 --> 00:20:09.500 want to do it then I became a Christian some 00:20:09.500 --> 00:20:11.940 five years later and all of a sudden cars were 00:20:11.940 --> 00:20:13.599 nice and all that stuff I thought still thought 00:20:13.599 --> 00:20:16.160 they were fun but they became far less important 00:20:16.160 --> 00:20:18.039 in my life and all of a sudden I started making 00:20:18.039 --> 00:20:20.900 better decisions on automobiles I would buy old 00:20:20.900 --> 00:20:24.519 cars used cars and wear them out until they literally 00:20:24.519 --> 00:20:26.819 about tires about ready to fall off of them and 00:20:26.819 --> 00:20:28.710 then get rid of that one and get another one 00:20:28.710 --> 00:20:31.670 and I was able to then with those funds I wasn't 00:20:31.670 --> 00:20:34.589 spending or wasn't losing I was able to do have 00:20:34.589 --> 00:20:37.170 a nicer home for our family to live in able to 00:20:37.170 --> 00:20:39.869 give more finances to the Lord able to start 00:20:39.869 --> 00:20:42.589 tithing all those things changed because the 00:20:42.589 --> 00:20:44.930 desires of my heart changed and it was because 00:20:44.930 --> 00:20:47.650 the Holy Spirit taught me to delight myself in 00:20:47.650 --> 00:20:51.230 him and he'll even change my desires so that's 00:20:51.230 --> 00:20:53.170 a little bonus something that I thought I would 00:20:53.170 --> 00:20:55.670 throw in there because some people struggle understanding 00:20:55.670 --> 00:20:58.210 the difference between God's will and our desires. 00:20:58.430 --> 00:21:00.170 All right, let's move on again here. This is 00:21:00.170 --> 00:21:03.730 Romans number 8 verse 6 in the New Living Translation. 00:21:03.950 --> 00:21:07.269 So letting your sinful nature control your mind 00:21:07.269 --> 00:21:09.930 leads to death. That means spiritual death. But 00:21:09.930 --> 00:21:12.930 letting the Spirit control your mind leads to 00:21:12.930 --> 00:21:15.269 life and power. So therefore, once again, we 00:21:15.269 --> 00:21:17.150 go back to the Holy Spirit. He's the one that 00:21:17.150 --> 00:21:18.990 has to lead us. He's the one that has to direct 00:21:18.990 --> 00:21:20.950 us. He's the one that has to guide our thoughts, 00:21:20.990 --> 00:21:23.710 our plans, and he will help us to follow God's 00:21:23.710 --> 00:21:26.230 will for us in our life. The Holy Spirit brings 00:21:26.230 --> 00:21:29.359 a Greater life. Life. That life brings peace 00:21:29.359 --> 00:21:32.619 and joy and trust in God. It's so important that 00:21:32.619 --> 00:21:35.660 we take this teaching and understand that all 00:21:35.660 --> 00:21:38.000 that we've done in our life, it's not all garbage. 00:21:38.299 --> 00:21:40.019 You just don't throw everything away. Paul, when 00:21:40.019 --> 00:21:41.559 he meant garbage, he was saying things that I 00:21:41.559 --> 00:21:44.099 was doing on my own didn't turn out very well. 00:21:44.380 --> 00:21:46.019 But it's important for us to understand that 00:21:46.019 --> 00:21:48.880 we can do nice things and good things, but we 00:21:48.880 --> 00:21:50.720 can go better than that as a Christian. As a 00:21:50.720 --> 00:21:53.079 follower of Jesus Christ, we can do great things. 00:21:53.279 --> 00:21:56.059 Jesus said when he left, he says, greater things 00:21:56.059 --> 00:21:58.380 will you do than I've done. And the only reason 00:21:58.380 --> 00:22:00.140 he said that to them was because they were followers 00:22:00.140 --> 00:22:02.220 of the Lord Jesus Christ. Now, if they were all 00:22:02.220 --> 00:22:04.460 ungodly people and doing their will and their 00:22:04.460 --> 00:22:06.019 desires, he would tell them, you're going to 00:22:06.019 --> 00:22:08.759 fail. You're not going to prosper. But he knew 00:22:08.759 --> 00:22:10.339 because they were followers of the Lord Jesus 00:22:10.339 --> 00:22:12.279 Christ, they would surrender their lives to him 00:22:12.279 --> 00:22:14.960 and seek God's will and not their will.
