Maybe 00:01:12.349 --> 00:01:15.269 something specific, you know, just as a decision 00:01:15.269 --> 00:01:18.069 you're trying to make or maybe trying to decide 00:01:18.069 --> 00:01:21.310 to buy or sell a house or a car or job change 00:01:21.310 --> 00:01:23.629 or maybe someone that you're dating or someone 00:01:23.629 --> 00:01:25.609 you're really serious about and wondering is 00:01:25.609 --> 00:01:27.290 this going to lead to marriage? Whatever it is, 00:01:27.510 --> 00:01:29.609 you want to know God's will, but so you've got 00:01:29.609 --> 00:01:32.079 to question that's very common we all face these 00:01:32.079 --> 00:01:34.560 things and all of us have wondered about that 00:01:34.560 --> 00:01:36.659 we've all had a time in our life where we've 00:01:36.659 --> 00:01:39.159 wondered and just said Lord is this the way to 00:01:39.159 --> 00:01:41.280 go should I do this should I do that should I 00:01:41.280 --> 00:01:43.620 do this first and do that second whatever it 00:01:43.620 --> 00:01:45.840 might be well we don't have to wonder about that 00:01:45.840 --> 00:01:48.180 we can understand through the Word of God and 00:01:48.180 --> 00:01:50.959 the anointing of the Holy Spirit exactly how 00:01:50.959 --> 00:01:54.400 we should deal with God's will and to get to 00:01:54.400 --> 00:01:56.180 understand that we've got to understand how the 00:01:56.180 --> 00:01:59.599 Holy Spirit knows God's will you see Remember, 00:01:59.680 --> 00:02:01.560 we're Christians, and as fathers of the Lord 00:02:01.560 --> 00:02:03.680 Jesus Christ, we have the Holy Spirit living 00:02:03.680 --> 00:02:06.579 and dwelling in us. And because of that, we've 00:02:06.579 --> 00:02:09.060 got an advantage, obviously, on those people 00:02:09.060 --> 00:02:10.860 who've not given their life to Christ. We have 00:02:10.860 --> 00:02:12.979 the advantage of the Holy Spirit living and dwelling 00:02:12.979 --> 00:02:15.419 in us, so we need to seek Him and ask for His 00:02:15.419 --> 00:02:18.860 direction. Now, even the great Apostle Paul had 00:02:18.860 --> 00:02:21.539 questions about knowing and doing God's will. 00:02:21.639 --> 00:02:23.259 You know, there's a scripture that he talked 00:02:23.259 --> 00:02:25.819 about, and I've used it before in podcasts. I'm 00:02:25.819 --> 00:02:27.900 going to just use it again. He basically is saying 00:02:27.900 --> 00:02:29.729 this. He's saying, you know, there's times that 00:02:29.729 --> 00:02:31.469 I'm doing things that I know I shouldn't do. 00:02:31.629 --> 00:02:33.150 I'm doing the things that I don't want to do. 00:02:33.389 --> 00:02:35.030 And even though I know I shouldn't do them, even 00:02:35.030 --> 00:02:36.810 while I'm doing them, I know it's wrong. But 00:02:36.810 --> 00:02:39.969 he says, I still do them anyway. Why is it? Why 00:02:39.969 --> 00:02:42.750 does that happen? So Paul was wondering, how 00:02:42.750 --> 00:02:45.650 can he do God's will? How can he have the directions 00:02:45.650 --> 00:02:48.169 that he needed? And he ran to the Holy Spirit 00:02:48.169 --> 00:02:51.150 for guidance, for direction, for wisdom, for 00:02:51.150 --> 00:02:53.590 knowledge. You know, another one of my scriptures, 00:02:53.689 --> 00:02:55.990 one of my favorite scriptures dealing with this 00:02:55.990 --> 00:02:58.800 issue of how the Holy Spirit knows God's will 00:02:58.800 --> 00:03:03.300 is found in Romans chapter seven in verses nine, 00:03:03.500 --> 00:03:06.840 19 I think through 25 in the New Living Translation. 00:03:06.900 --> 00:03:09.400 Now this is a longer scripture than I usually 00:03:09.400 --> 00:03:12.780 read, but it's vital to this podcast. Therefore, 00:03:12.960 --> 00:03:16.300 let's read Romans chapter seven verses 19 through 00:03:16.300 --> 00:03:19.280 25 in the New Living Translation. And of course, 00:03:19.280 --> 00:03:21.500 this is the scripture that I talked about a second 00:03:21.500 --> 00:03:23.240 ago, but we gotta read a little bit more than 00:03:23.240 --> 00:03:25.219 just what I talked about. Here's Paul talking 00:03:25.219 --> 00:03:27.580 once again in Romans chapter seven. verse 19. 00:03:27.860 --> 00:03:30.460 I want to do what is good, but I don't. I don't 00:03:30.460 --> 00:03:32.699 want to do what is wrong, but I do it anyway. 00:03:32.800 --> 00:03:35.479 Verse 20. But if I do what I don't want to do, 00:03:35.639 --> 00:03:39.159 I am not really the one doing wrong. It is sin 00:03:39.159 --> 00:03:41.800 living in me that does it. Well, you know, we 00:03:41.800 --> 00:03:43.319 should stop there for a second. You know, when 00:03:43.319 --> 00:03:45.020 we're under attack and we're doing something 00:03:45.020 --> 00:03:46.800 we shouldn't do, or we have thoughts we shouldn't 00:03:46.800 --> 00:03:48.939 have, or we're taking actions we shouldn't take, 00:03:49.060 --> 00:03:51.419 we should immediately be ready to understand. 00:03:51.439 --> 00:03:53.060 That's what Paul's saying here. He knows where 00:03:53.060 --> 00:03:55.159 it's coming from. It's sin. It's the Holy Spirit 00:03:55.159 --> 00:03:58.020 wanting to bring into our life and wants to increase 00:03:58.020 --> 00:04:00.080 the sin maybe that we're still struggling with 00:04:00.080 --> 00:04:03.240 in our life. And so we immediately identify that. 00:04:03.280 --> 00:04:05.340 So therefore we can rebuke the devil and say, 00:04:05.419 --> 00:04:07.860 I take authority over you in Jesus' name. I rebuke 00:04:07.860 --> 00:04:09.659 that thought. I'm not allow that to come back 00:04:09.659 --> 00:04:11.539 into my mind. And that's what Paul understood 00:04:11.539 --> 00:04:14.780 that he knew to take authority over the sin that 00:04:14.780 --> 00:04:17.420 tried to get into, you know, in our lives. In 00:04:17.420 --> 00:04:20.319 verse 21, he says this, I have discovered this 00:04:20.319 --> 00:04:22.579 principle of life that when I want to do what 00:04:22.579 --> 00:04:25.470 is right, I inevitably do what is wrong. Verse 00:04:25.470 --> 00:04:28.689 22, I love God's law with all my heart, but there 00:04:28.689 --> 00:04:32.069 is another power within me that is at war in 00:04:32.069 --> 00:04:35.189 my mind. This power makes me a slave to sin that 00:04:35.189 --> 00:04:38.529 is still within me. Verse 24, oh, what a miserable 00:04:38.529 --> 00:04:41.149 person I am. Now, it's hard to imagine Paul saying 00:04:41.149 --> 00:04:43.930 that, but he was a regular person, quite frankly, 00:04:44.009 --> 00:04:47.050 just like you and I, who will free me from this 00:04:47.050 --> 00:04:50.310 life that is dominated by sin and death. Verse 00:04:50.310 --> 00:04:53.029 25, thank God. Here we go, here we go. Here's 00:04:53.029 --> 00:04:57.250 the answer. is in. Christ Jesus, our Lord. So 00:04:57.250 --> 00:05:00.490 you see how it is. In my mind, I really want 00:05:00.490 --> 00:05:04.209 to obey God's law, but because of my sinful nature, 00:05:04.310 --> 00:05:07.029 I am a slave to sin. You know, he goes on to 00:05:07.029 --> 00:05:09.670 talk about, in Romans chapter eight, about power 00:05:09.670 --> 00:05:11.829 of the Holy Spirit and that the Holy Spirit's 00:05:11.829 --> 00:05:13.610 the one that has to lead us. And so he follows 00:05:13.610 --> 00:05:17.009 up with what I just read with eight chapter, 00:05:17.069 --> 00:05:19.370 let's see, Romans chapter eight, verse one. So 00:05:19.370 --> 00:05:22.129 now there is no condemnation for those who belong 00:05:22.129 --> 00:05:24.829 to Christ Jesus. Now isn't that powerful? He 00:05:24.829 --> 00:05:26.810 talked about all of his challenges. He talked 00:05:26.810 --> 00:05:28.649 about all the things he was going through, like 00:05:28.649 --> 00:05:30.709 we all go through some of the difficult times 00:05:30.709 --> 00:05:33.430 that we have, and yet he jumps right back on 00:05:33.430 --> 00:05:35.850 his walk with God and says this. He says, so 00:05:35.850 --> 00:05:38.589 now there is no condemnation. He says, for those 00:05:38.589 --> 00:05:40.670 who belong to Jesus Christ, that means for those 00:05:40.670 --> 00:05:42.949 who are followers of Jesus Christ, he was just 00:05:42.949 --> 00:05:45.670 confirming to himself what he knew was to be 00:05:45.670 --> 00:05:47.850 the truth. He says, and because you belong to 00:05:47.850 --> 00:05:51.129 him, the power, listen to this, of the life -giving 00:05:51.129 --> 00:05:54.209 spirit has freed you from the power of sin. that 00:05:54.209 --> 00:05:56.990 leads to death. So that kind of wraps up that 00:05:56.990 --> 00:05:59.670 part of this podcast. It's so important to understand 00:05:59.670 --> 00:06:03.189 we all battle issues in our mind. There's a battle 00:06:03.189 --> 00:06:06.250 over our thoughts, a battle over what goes into 00:06:06.250 --> 00:06:09.149 our heart. And we've got to take authority over 00:06:09.149 --> 00:06:13.709 that in the name of Jesus and declare God's promises 00:06:13.709 --> 00:06:16.029 for every area of our life. And that's what Paul 00:06:16.029 --> 00:06:18.350 was saying. He said, oh, I've had these problems. 00:06:18.449 --> 00:06:20.490 I'm fighting these problems. I'm going through 00:06:20.490 --> 00:06:22.810 these problems. He says, but I've got something 00:06:22.810 --> 00:06:25.050 going. You know, it's so wonderful that God's 00:06:25.050 --> 00:06:27.050 Word says, greater is he that is in you than 00:06:27.050 --> 00:06:29.850 he that is in the world. Well, so that's an example 00:06:29.850 --> 00:06:32.490 of the Holy Spirit knowing God's will for us. 00:06:32.610 --> 00:06:35.129 Now how does this all tie into the Holy Spirit 00:06:35.129 --> 00:06:38.209 knowing God's will? Because the Holy Spirit is 00:06:38.209 --> 00:06:42.009 God. The Holy Spirit is Jesus. Because they are 00:06:42.009 --> 00:06:45.009 all part of the triune Godhead. God the Father, 00:06:45.149 --> 00:06:47.689 God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. Only one 00:06:47.689 --> 00:06:51.230 God. But in three direct personalities, three 00:06:51.230 --> 00:06:54.360 specific purposes for Christians. Now here are 00:06:54.360 --> 00:06:56.740 a couple of scriptural examples I think that 00:06:56.740 --> 00:06:58.740 will help us in understanding the Holy Spirit 00:06:58.740 --> 00:07:01.579 knows God's will. In 1st Corinthians chapter 00:07:01.579 --> 00:07:05.120 2 and verse 9 in the New Living Testament, listen 00:07:05.120 --> 00:07:09.300 to this. No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and 00:07:09.300 --> 00:07:12.819 no mind has imagined what God has prepared for 00:07:12.819 --> 00:07:15.959 those who love Him. That's a powerful statement 00:07:15.959 --> 00:07:18.720 to understand that God has a will for us, a plan 00:07:18.720 --> 00:07:22.079 for us, a purpose for us, and in our life we've 00:07:22.079 --> 00:07:24.600 got to work towards what Paul was saying. I know 00:07:24.600 --> 00:07:26.800 there's no condemnation in me because Christ 00:07:26.800 --> 00:07:29.360 has taken that away when He gave His life for 00:07:29.360 --> 00:07:31.279 me and I became a follower of the Lord Jesus 00:07:31.279 --> 00:07:33.560 Christ. There's no longer any condemnation over 00:07:33.560 --> 00:07:36.560 my mind or my thoughts. And that opens us up 00:07:36.560 --> 00:07:38.920 to understand the will of God, to receive the 00:07:38.920 --> 00:07:41.560 will of God. And then 1 Corinthians 2 .9, Paul 00:07:41.560 --> 00:07:43.519 writes again, and he says, basically, no one's 00:07:43.519 --> 00:07:45.899 ever seen this, no one's ever heard it. But what 00:07:45.899 --> 00:07:49.300 God has prepared for those who love Him, He wants 00:07:49.300 --> 00:07:52.259 us to operate here on earth in our plan, our 00:07:52.259 --> 00:07:54.579 purpose, and in His will. And the Holy Spirit 00:07:54.579 --> 00:07:57.300 is the only way that we can do that. We can't 00:07:57.300 --> 00:08:00.720 operate in God's will and not have a relationship 00:08:00.720 --> 00:08:03.420 with the Holy Spirit on an ongoing basis. Look 00:08:03.420 --> 00:08:04.870 at another scripture here. that's wonderful. 00:08:04.990 --> 00:08:08.269 1 Corinthians chapter 2 verses 10 and 11 in the 00:08:08.269 --> 00:08:11.189 New Living Translation. But it was to us that 00:08:11.189 --> 00:08:14.810 revealed these things by His Spirit, for His 00:08:14.810 --> 00:08:18.730 Spirit searches out everything and shows us that 00:08:18.730 --> 00:08:22.290 God has deep secrets, or that God has deep secrets. 00:08:22.509 --> 00:08:25.129 What's important about that scripture is it's 00:08:25.129 --> 00:08:27.850 telling us that the word of God is going to reveal 00:08:27.850 --> 00:08:30.569 to us God's secrets, and God's secrets, to some 00:08:30.569 --> 00:08:32.470 people think it's God's will is one of those. 00:08:32.549 --> 00:08:35.350 Well, it is of a secret to God until the Holy 00:08:35.350 --> 00:08:38.230 Spirit helps us to receive God's will and understand 00:08:38.230 --> 00:08:40.870 his will in our life and therefore he reveals 00:08:40.870 --> 00:08:42.970 the Holy Spirit helps reveal the deep things 00:08:42.970 --> 00:08:45.610 of God and the power of God that's to operate 00:08:45.610 --> 00:08:48.210 in followers of the Lord Jesus Christ. Let me 00:08:48.210 --> 00:08:50.830 just digress for a second. This reading is just 00:08:50.830 --> 00:08:53.230 so wonderful. I'm kind of getting excited about 00:08:53.230 --> 00:08:56.169 it. I'm the energy that I believe the Lord has 00:08:56.169 --> 00:08:58.990 placed in me to help people understand how to 00:08:58.990 --> 00:09:01.009 understand their God's will for their life and 00:09:01.009 --> 00:09:03.059 God's promises for them and that even the deep 00:09:03.059 --> 00:09:05.259 secrets that he has for them, that I want to 00:09:05.259 --> 00:09:07.740 emphasize what Paul's teaching was. First we 00:09:07.740 --> 00:09:09.679 started off with Paul having problems. He was 00:09:09.679 --> 00:09:11.820 struggling, right? And then we understand that 00:09:11.820 --> 00:09:14.179 Paul is now directing us towards the Holy Spirit, 00:09:14.259 --> 00:09:16.299 understanding exactly how we can overcome these 00:09:16.299 --> 00:09:18.620 things. Then we read that Paul is telling us 00:09:18.620 --> 00:09:21.960 that no one can possibly understand what's going 00:09:21.960 --> 00:09:25.200 on except God can reveal those things to us. 00:09:25.320 --> 00:09:27.580 And then we get into 1 Corinthians chapter 2, 00:09:27.659 --> 00:09:30.120 verse 10 and 11. And remember 10 was, but it 00:09:30.120 --> 00:09:33.279 was to us that God reveals these things by His 00:09:33.279 --> 00:09:35.320 Spirit, for His Spirit searches out everything 00:09:35.320 --> 00:09:38.259 and shows us God's deep secrets. But let's stay 00:09:38.259 --> 00:09:41.740 with us now. Verse 11, no one can know a person's 00:09:41.740 --> 00:09:44.139 thought except that person's own spirit. And 00:09:44.139 --> 00:09:47.179 no one can know God's thoughts except God's own 00:09:47.179 --> 00:09:49.980 spirit. Here we go. Here we go. That's how we 00:09:49.980 --> 00:09:52.159 know God's will, through the spirit. And we have 00:09:52.159 --> 00:09:55.600 received God's spirit, not in the world's spirit. 00:09:55.700 --> 00:09:59.639 So we can know the wonderful things God has freely 00:09:59.639 --> 00:10:03.480 given us. We just continue to get more and more 00:10:03.480 --> 00:10:05.860 strength about understanding that God has a great 00:10:05.860 --> 00:10:09.220 plan. God has a purpose for us. has great things 00:10:09.220 --> 00:10:11.899 planned for us, and part of that is to operate 00:10:11.899 --> 00:10:14.500 in His will. See, as we operate in His will, 00:10:14.620 --> 00:10:17.360 then it'll open up the promises of God, the deep 00:10:17.360 --> 00:10:19.940 things that God has promised for us, if we operate 00:10:19.940 --> 00:10:23.039 in His will. Oh, help us, Lord, to understand 00:10:23.039 --> 00:10:25.799 how crucial it is to know God's will and then 00:10:25.799 --> 00:10:28.600 to operate in that will. Now, in 1st Corinthians 00:10:28.600 --> 00:10:32.080 chapter 2 and verse 12, it says, we receive the 00:10:32.080 --> 00:10:34.019 Holy Spirit. I just read that a second ago. We 00:10:34.019 --> 00:10:37.019 receive the Holy Spirit so we can know, we can 00:10:37.019 --> 00:10:39.679 know the wonderful things that God has freely 00:10:39.679 --> 00:10:41.960 given us. I want to repeat that scripture one 00:10:41.960 --> 00:10:44.799 more time just because it's so important to understand 00:10:44.799 --> 00:10:47.500 that, yes, we will know, especially to some people 00:10:47.500 --> 00:10:49.940 who might be listening and saying, I just cannot 00:10:49.940 --> 00:10:52.159 seem to get over the hump to understand what 00:10:52.159 --> 00:10:54.639 my purpose is in life and what God's will is 00:10:54.639 --> 00:10:57.220 for me in my life. And what's God's will is for 00:10:57.220 --> 00:10:59.240 me in various things I'm involved with. Well, 00:10:59.320 --> 00:11:01.019 Paul's helping us with that. He's getting us 00:11:01.019 --> 00:11:04.259 to understand that we have received God's Spirit. 00:11:04.340 --> 00:11:07.320 So because of that, we will know. what God has 00:11:07.320 --> 00:11:09.980 planned to give us, what He freely gives us. 00:11:10.120 --> 00:11:12.539 And then in 2 Corinthians chapter 13 and verse 00:11:12.539 --> 00:11:15.340 14, in the New Living Translation, Paul continues 00:11:15.340 --> 00:11:17.519 to write, listen to this, Paul's final greeting 00:11:17.519 --> 00:11:20.320 to the church in Corinth. Listen to this, may 00:11:20.320 --> 00:11:22.899 the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love 00:11:22.899 --> 00:11:25.480 of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit 00:11:25.480 --> 00:11:27.860 be with you. Now, he's saying this at the very 00:11:27.860 --> 00:11:30.740 end of his talking there, of his expressions 00:11:30.740 --> 00:11:32.740 that he had, the Holy Spirit led him to speak. 00:11:32.820 --> 00:11:36.330 And he's basically telling us that we got understand 00:11:36.330 --> 00:11:40.090 that that God's grace is what allows us to have 00:11:40.090 --> 00:11:42.090 communion with the Holy Spirit and have communion 00:11:42.090 --> 00:11:46.149 with power of God himself and that God's grace 00:11:46.320 --> 00:11:49.460 was submitted to us through the sacrifice of 00:11:49.460 --> 00:11:52.559 his son, Jesus. And by sacrificing his son, he 00:11:52.559 --> 00:11:54.360 showed how much he loved us and showed how much 00:11:54.360 --> 00:11:56.620 he wants to have grace for us to forgive us of 00:11:56.620 --> 00:11:59.899 our sins. And it says, so Christ, the love of 00:11:59.899 --> 00:12:02.440 God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit is 00:12:02.440 --> 00:12:05.039 what he wants all of us to have. The fellowship 00:12:05.039 --> 00:12:07.840 of the Holy Spirit. The fellowship of the Holy 00:12:07.840 --> 00:12:11.039 Spirit. That's how we know God's will. We have 00:12:11.039 --> 00:12:13.500 fellowship. We have relationship. We have daily 00:12:13.500 --> 00:12:15.879 contact with the Holy Spirit in our life. and 00:12:15.879 --> 00:12:18.259 we avoid just trying to do things on our own, 00:12:18.340 --> 00:12:20.299 going in the direction that we think is fine 00:12:20.299 --> 00:12:22.740 and then hoping that it turns out alright. No, 00:12:22.779 --> 00:12:25.500 we don't do things that way. As Christians, we've 00:12:25.500 --> 00:12:27.440 got to just surrender to the Holy Spirit, seek 00:12:27.440 --> 00:12:29.860 God's Word for guidance and direction, pray daily 00:12:29.860 --> 00:12:32.159 in some manner or another. I'm not saying 12 00:12:32.159 --> 00:12:33.919 hours a day, I'm just saying you should have 00:12:33.919 --> 00:12:36.100 a time of prayer each day to communicate with 00:12:36.100 --> 00:12:38.879 God and ask the Holy Spirit to lead and guide 00:12:38.879 --> 00:12:41.879 and direct us. And all that comes together so 00:12:41.879 --> 00:12:44.759 we will understand that the Holy Spirit knows 00:12:44.879 --> 00:12:48.519 God's will and he reveals that to us as we follow 00:12:48.519 --> 00:12:51.759 him. Now in John 14 26 in the New Living Translation 00:12:51.759 --> 00:12:53.480 here's something else that was written this time 00:12:53.480 --> 00:12:56.019 by John. Now I told you a story in 00:14:01.470 --> 00:14:04.070 a prior podcast about when we were living in 00:14:04.070 --> 00:14:07.429 a little town called Sierra Vista. God had called 00:14:07.429 --> 00:14:10.029 us into ministry and called me specifically into 00:14:10.029 --> 00:14:12.350 preaching and I felt the power of God. But I 00:14:12.350 --> 00:14:15.009 also had a career going with the bank and I wanted 00:14:15.009 --> 00:14:16.889 to make enough money so I could support my family 00:14:16.889 --> 00:14:19.480 and I was afraid. to go into ministry at that 00:14:19.480 --> 00:14:21.899 time because I felt like I'm just too young. 00:14:22.159 --> 00:14:25.000 I got to first get my career going and it was 00:14:25.000 --> 00:14:27.100 all out of God's will. I mean, I was making all 00:14:27.100 --> 00:14:29.899 these decisions on my own. So we ran up to Tucson 00:14:29.899 --> 00:14:32.240 and I got another job that was helped building 00:14:32.240 --> 00:14:35.379 my career. And I left the church where God was 00:14:35.379 --> 00:14:37.620 talking to us so strongly and dealing with us 00:14:37.620 --> 00:14:39.759 and helping with us and the church exploded and 00:14:39.759 --> 00:14:42.720 was growing. But we left there and went to another 00:14:42.720 --> 00:14:45.419 location. Well, I was out of God's will. And 00:14:45.419 --> 00:14:47.539 during that whole time that we were in Tucson, 00:14:47.659 --> 00:14:50.440 it was miserable. My boss was a terrible person 00:14:50.440 --> 00:14:53.309 to work for. like the city that much. We didn't 00:14:53.309 --> 00:14:56.389 enjoy it at all. Just the whole confusion of 00:14:56.389 --> 00:14:58.649 the community was there were people who were 00:14:58.649 --> 00:15:01.009 talking about things that were anti -God and 00:15:01.009 --> 00:15:02.889 there were people I knew in business there. I 00:15:02.889 --> 00:15:05.669 met more ungodly people than at any other time 00:15:05.669 --> 00:15:08.370 during my banking career. And Lord, you know, 00:15:08.490 --> 00:15:10.490 basically continued to bless us and help us and 00:15:10.490 --> 00:15:12.289 we found a good church and we settled in there 00:15:12.289 --> 00:15:14.610 and was trying to get an understanding of what 00:15:14.610 --> 00:15:17.309 God wanted to do with us in our life. And I was 00:15:17.309 --> 00:15:19.009 kind of doing what Paul was doing. I knew what 00:15:19.009 --> 00:15:21.159 I should do, but I didn't do it. And even when 00:15:21.159 --> 00:15:23.000 I was doing what I shouldn't be doing, I did 00:15:23.000 --> 00:15:25.360 it anyways. And so that's why I guess I love 00:15:25.360 --> 00:15:28.399 that scripture so much. But I understand that's 00:15:28.399 --> 00:15:30.980 what happened in my life. And I hope that those 00:15:30.980 --> 00:15:32.580 of you who are listening will understand that 00:15:32.580 --> 00:15:34.360 those things do happen in our lives. That doesn't 00:15:34.360 --> 00:15:36.559 mean God is done with it. He's through with us 00:15:36.559 --> 00:15:38.740 and won't give us another chance. Because shortly 00:15:38.740 --> 00:15:40.559 after being in Tucson for a couple of years, 00:15:40.659 --> 00:15:42.779 we got a wonderful promotion to come back into 00:15:42.779 --> 00:15:44.539 the Phoenix area where I really wanted to be 00:15:44.539 --> 00:15:47.120 with my family. We found a fabulous church. We 00:15:47.120 --> 00:15:50.519 got involved with amazing, amazing people. outreach 00:15:50.519 --> 00:15:52.720 church that was reaching the community and just 00:15:52.720 --> 00:15:55.620 doing great works and we started going there 00:15:55.620 --> 00:15:57.960 right after we got back to Phoenix and we now 00:15:57.960 --> 00:16:00.120 have still been associated with that same church 00:16:00.120 --> 00:16:03.519 now for like 46 years and so we thank God for 00:16:03.519 --> 00:16:05.840 that but God had a better plan and a great plan 00:16:05.840 --> 00:16:08.679 for us but even if we walked away from what we 00:16:08.679 --> 00:16:10.919 knew what to do and we didn't do it God will 00:16:10.919 --> 00:16:12.940 still forgive us and cleanse us I think he did 00:16:12.940 --> 00:16:15.500 that for Paul obviously Paul talked about all 00:16:15.500 --> 00:16:17.620 the problems he had and the things he was doing 00:16:17.620 --> 00:16:20.220 wrong, but God had a great plan for him. And 00:16:20.220 --> 00:16:22.500 Paul turned in the direction of being led by 00:16:22.500 --> 00:16:25.340 the Holy Spirit and God could use him in a greater 00:16:25.340 --> 00:16:27.740 way than ever before. And I can see that's happening 00:16:27.740 --> 00:16:31.940 in my own life. Now, when we were in Sierra Vista 00:16:31.940 --> 00:16:34.580 in Southern Arizona, we were brand new Christians. 00:16:34.820 --> 00:16:37.299 I mean, we had just found Jesus. We'd only been 00:16:37.299 --> 00:16:39.700 Christians about a year. And we were really hungry, 00:16:39.740 --> 00:16:41.340 reading the word of God, getting great Bible 00:16:41.340 --> 00:16:44.000 teaching, but we were new Christians. sudden 00:16:44.000 --> 00:16:46.440 there was an opportunity to go down to a little 00:16:46.440 --> 00:16:48.700 town called Sierra Vista. We prayed about it. 00:16:48.740 --> 00:16:51.279 We asked God to help us and we knew it was God's 00:16:51.279 --> 00:16:52.980 will. We knew that we knew that we knew that 00:16:52.980 --> 00:16:55.179 we were supposed to leave the Phoenix area and 00:16:55.179 --> 00:16:58.480 go up to go down to Sierra Vista in Arizona. 00:16:58.580 --> 00:17:01.240 Take this promotion in the bank. And because 00:17:01.240 --> 00:17:03.879 of that, being led by the Spirit of God, that's 00:17:03.879 --> 00:17:06.079 when the power of God fell upon that church and 00:17:06.079 --> 00:17:08.779 there was just an explosion of growth. Just absolutely 00:17:08.779 --> 00:17:11.940 amazing what took place. That God was using in 00:17:11.940 --> 00:17:14.779 a glorious way A couple of young kids, my wife 00:17:14.779 --> 00:17:17.599 and I, we were like about 27 years of age, had 00:17:17.599 --> 00:17:20.019 only known the Lord for a year and a half or 00:17:20.019 --> 00:17:22.880 so. But the Lord put us in positions of leadership 00:17:22.880 --> 00:17:26.160 in the church and the pastor was our mentor and 00:17:26.160 --> 00:17:28.940 helping us and his wife. And we were receiving 00:17:28.940 --> 00:17:31.519 wonderful guidance and direction and knew that 00:17:31.519 --> 00:17:33.740 the Holy Spirit wanted us there. And because 00:17:33.740 --> 00:17:36.099 we were there, I mean, we look back on our life 00:17:36.099 --> 00:17:38.079 and probably the greatest three, three and a 00:17:38.079 --> 00:17:40.259 half years of our entire life was the time that 00:17:40.259 --> 00:17:42.180 we lived in this little town in Sierra Vista. 00:17:42.089 --> 00:17:44.450 when we felt the call of God on our life, and 00:17:44.450 --> 00:17:46.589 it was just amazing. I didn't realize though, 00:17:46.670 --> 00:17:48.910 that I would run in a different direction for 00:17:48.910 --> 00:17:51.250 a while, but that God still had his hand on me. 00:17:51.329 --> 00:17:53.829 And so then after I ran away from Sierra Vista 00:17:53.829 --> 00:17:56.589 to Tucson, was miserable there, then went back 00:17:56.589 --> 00:17:59.170 to Phoenix, then God said, okay, I'm still here 00:17:59.170 --> 00:18:01.650 for you. If you want me, I'm going to help you. 00:18:01.650 --> 00:18:03.470 I'm going to direct you. I'm going to guide you. 00:18:03.470 --> 00:18:05.569 And I kept praying, Lord, I need to know your 00:18:05.569 --> 00:18:08.269 will up here, because I know what I did wasn't 00:18:08.269 --> 00:18:10.829 right down there. I was kind of running from 00:18:10.829 --> 00:18:14.430 you. And I'm sorry, I... apologize, forgive me, 00:18:14.430 --> 00:18:17.269 and I really had to repent for getting outside 00:18:17.269 --> 00:18:20.289 of God's will. And when I did, it was amazing 00:18:20.289 --> 00:18:23.009 how the floodgates of heaven just opened up. 00:18:23.049 --> 00:18:25.509 And the Lord allowed us to prosper in the church 00:18:25.509 --> 00:18:27.670 here in Phoenix, and it moved on to the point 00:18:27.670 --> 00:18:30.089 that we were there for many years under great 00:18:30.089 --> 00:18:32.450 teaching, a wonderful pastor, and the church 00:18:32.450 --> 00:18:34.329 we were with grew from maybe a couple hundred 00:18:34.329 --> 00:18:37.230 people to five or six thousand people. It was 00:18:37.230 --> 00:18:39.890 just amazing. People getting saved every week, 00:18:40.170 --> 00:18:42.089 outreaches in the city, just all kinds of great 00:18:42.089 --> 00:18:44.029 things. And then in the middle of that, the pastor 00:18:44.029 --> 00:18:45.769 came to me and said, I want you to go to another 00:18:45.769 --> 00:18:48.089 city, go to Scottsdale, and start your own church. 00:18:48.190 --> 00:18:50.410 And so we did. And then God turned around and 00:18:50.410 --> 00:18:52.890 blessed that. So everything that I'd done prior 00:18:52.890 --> 00:18:54.970 to that time, I know I'm giving you a lot of 00:18:54.970 --> 00:18:56.930 stories, and I'm trying to keep them in order. 00:18:57.250 --> 00:19:00.369 Okay, remember, new Christian, Sierra Vista in 00:19:00.369 --> 00:19:02.970 God's will, Tucson out of God's will, back to 00:19:02.970 --> 00:19:05.710 Phoenix in God's will, and then serving at a 00:19:05.710 --> 00:19:07.849 church and doing our best to serve other people. 00:19:07.990 --> 00:19:10.549 Then God directed us to start our own church. 00:19:10.650 --> 00:19:13.000 So I know what It's like to be in and out of 00:19:13.000 --> 00:19:15.079 God's will. I know what it's like to know that 00:19:15.079 --> 00:19:17.500 God is leading you and when I know what to do 00:19:17.500 --> 00:19:19.680 and I don't do it. And I hope that that'll be 00:19:19.680 --> 00:19:21.759 a help to you and a blessing to those who are 00:19:21.759 --> 00:19:23.980 listening in today. So therefore, the church 00:19:23.980 --> 00:19:26.039 that we started in Scottsdale prospered and did 00:19:26.039 --> 00:19:28.799 incredibly well. And for like 17 years, we were 00:19:28.799 --> 00:19:31.660 the senior pastors, the church grew and it prospered 00:19:31.660 --> 00:19:34.220 and God opened up great opportunities. Our church 00:19:34.220 --> 00:19:36.779 had over 2000 people in attendance. We had three 00:19:36.779 --> 00:19:39.700 locations in the Scottsdale area, South Scottsdale, 00:19:39.799 --> 00:19:41.599 the middle of Scottsdale, up in a place called 00:19:41.599 --> 00:19:44.980 Carefree, north of Scottsdale. And we had three 00:19:44.980 --> 00:19:47.220 sites that we were working through, and the jail 00:19:47.220 --> 00:19:50.720 ministries that we had were amazing, and 2 ,200, 00:19:50.880 --> 00:19:53.660 2 ,300 people would be coming to our church services 00:19:53.660 --> 00:19:56.539 in a week. It was just amazing. And then in the 00:19:56.539 --> 00:19:58.640 middle of all that, we built this beautiful new 00:19:58.640 --> 00:20:01.279 church that God provided the funds for, and it 00:20:01.279 --> 00:20:03.779 just was amazing. When I thought, okay, now things 00:20:03.779 --> 00:20:05.660 are going great, going great, all of a sudden 00:20:05.660 --> 00:20:07.599 the Holy Spirit, okay, so now it's time for you 00:20:07.599 --> 00:20:09.920 to step down and pass this on to a younger person. 00:20:09.829 --> 00:20:12.670 So I was approaching 70 years old when that hit 00:20:12.670 --> 00:20:15.839 me. And I thought, Lord, is that your will? Inside, 00:20:15.980 --> 00:20:18.880 I did not want to do it. I did not. I didn't 00:20:18.880 --> 00:20:20.579 want to leave the church. I didn't want to step 00:20:20.579 --> 00:20:23.200 away from the church. But I felt the power of 00:20:23.200 --> 00:20:25.559 the Holy Spirit telling me, it's time for you 00:20:25.559 --> 00:20:28.079 to move on. I have greater plans for the church. 00:20:28.140 --> 00:20:29.440 And you're going to be here. You're going to 00:20:29.440 --> 00:20:31.720 be part of it. But you need to step away. And I knew beyond 00:21:02.099 --> 00:21:04.220 a shadow of a doubt that it was God's will. I 00:21:04.220 --> 00:21:06.579 mean, I absolutely knew. I didn't want to do 00:21:06.579 --> 00:21:08.880 it, but I knew it was His will. So we did. We 00:21:08.880 --> 00:21:11.839 stepped aside. But as we stepped aside, then 00:21:11.839 --> 00:21:15.500 we were asked also to join on the board of directors 00:21:15.500 --> 00:21:18.180 of all the campuses we have. And now today, instead 00:21:18.180 --> 00:21:20.759 of being a part of one church, We now have 11 00:21:20.759 --> 00:21:24.680 campuses and we're involved quite heavily. We're 00:21:24.680 --> 00:21:26.859 loving it. We know we're in God's will. We're 00:21:26.859 --> 00:21:29.799 now the congregational care pastors at the church. 00:21:29.980 --> 00:21:32.400 And so we know the people. We stayed at the same 00:21:32.400 --> 00:21:34.420 church that we were at because we knew so many 00:21:34.420 --> 00:21:36.559 people and wanted to encourage them to stay with 00:21:36.559 --> 00:21:38.799 us and be with us. And God has blessed us to 00:21:38.799 --> 00:21:41.220 give us new ministries, veterans ministries, 00:21:41.759 --> 00:21:44.799 ministries for widows, ministries for mentoring 00:21:44.799 --> 00:21:47.700 men and training men for me. And it's just simply 00:21:47.700 --> 00:21:51.579 amazing. move of God, how he continues to use 00:21:51.579 --> 00:21:54.640 you if you make yourself available to him. I truly felt led to tell our story, because 00:22:19.970 --> 00:22:24.059 I know God's will. and how it affected us.
