Well, to understand the purpose of this 00:01:24.640 --> 00:01:27.680 podcast, let me start with reading from John 00:01:27.680 --> 00:01:31.019 chapter 16 and verses 12 through 15 in the New 00:01:31.019 --> 00:01:33.680 Living Translation. Jesus is speaking here. He 00:01:33.680 --> 00:01:36.200 says these words in verse 12. There is so much 00:01:36.200 --> 00:01:39.120 more I want to tell you, but you can't bear it 00:01:39.120 --> 00:01:41.799 now. He was telling them, you can't handle everything 00:01:41.799 --> 00:01:44.019 that I've got to tell you. In verse 13, it says, 00:01:44.120 --> 00:01:46.640 when the spirit of truth comes, he will guide 00:01:46.640 --> 00:01:49.219 you into all truth. He will not speak on his 00:01:49.219 --> 00:01:51.519 own, but will tell you what he has heard. He 00:01:51.519 --> 00:01:54.219 will tell you about the future. Verse 14. He 00:01:54.219 --> 00:01:56.879 will bring me glory by telling you whatever he 00:01:56.879 --> 00:02:06.909 receives from me. Verse 15. Now the reason I 00:02:06.909 --> 00:02:08.650 read that scripture is because we're talking 00:02:08.650 --> 00:02:11.469 about how to experience the Holy Spirit, how 00:02:11.469 --> 00:02:14.729 to be able to walk and live and experience every 00:02:14.729 --> 00:02:17.069 day the power and the presence of the Holy Spirit 00:02:17.069 --> 00:02:18.949 in our life and that's such an important part 00:02:18.949 --> 00:02:21.169 of it because Jesus was making this promise and 00:02:21.169 --> 00:02:23.550 he's telling us that when the Spirit comes he's 00:02:23.550 --> 00:02:26.270 going to guide us into all truth. You see the 00:02:26.270 --> 00:02:28.710 Bible tells us that when we receive Jesus as 00:02:28.710 --> 00:02:31.009 our Lord and Savior, the Holy Spirit comes to 00:02:31.009 --> 00:02:33.750 dwell in us. Now there is something about the 00:02:33.750 --> 00:02:36.710 Holy Spirit we call the baptism of the Holy Spirit. 00:02:36.810 --> 00:02:39.189 There are things we talk about about the Holy 00:02:39.189 --> 00:02:41.169 Spirit called the fruit of the Spirit and the 00:02:41.169 --> 00:02:42.889 gifts of the Spirit and the nine power gifts 00:02:42.889 --> 00:02:45.330 of the Spirit. I've covered all of these in prior 00:02:45.330 --> 00:02:47.330 podcasts. Matter of fact, I did a whole series 00:02:47.330 --> 00:02:49.810 of teaching on the gifts of the Spirit and the 00:02:49.810 --> 00:02:51.750 power gifts of the Holy Spirit, so you can go 00:02:51.750 --> 00:02:54.250 back and refer to those if you'd like to in prior 00:02:54.250 --> 00:02:57.349 podcasts. But I would like to focus kind of a 00:02:57.349 --> 00:02:59.719 general statement today about how to experience 00:02:59.719 --> 00:03:02.659 the Holy Spirit and we need to continue to have 00:03:02.659 --> 00:03:04.639 that experience in our life. Some people say 00:03:04.639 --> 00:03:07.159 that well that ended when the Apostles were around 00:03:07.159 --> 00:03:09.419 and when the disciples were there and it kind 00:03:09.419 --> 00:03:11.800 of came and then it went and it just hasn't happened 00:03:11.800 --> 00:03:13.639 since. Well that's just not true because the 00:03:13.639 --> 00:03:15.460 Word of God is the same yesterday, today and 00:03:15.460 --> 00:03:17.580 forever and the operation of the Holy Spirit 00:03:17.580 --> 00:03:20.139 is the same today as it was back then. It's whether 00:03:20.139 --> 00:03:22.979 we yield to Him and we allow Him to take over 00:03:22.979 --> 00:03:25.039 and take charge of our lives. You know we read 00:03:25.039 --> 00:03:27.879 about more of the experience experiences of the 00:03:27.879 --> 00:03:29.699 Holy Spirit in the book of Acts. I'm going to 00:03:29.699 --> 00:03:31.479 read a couple of sections that I think will be 00:03:31.479 --> 00:03:34.639 helpful to you in Acts chapter 1 and verse number 00:03:34.639 --> 00:03:37.360 4. And I think we'll also read verse 5. I think 00:03:37.360 --> 00:03:40.240 they are so important together. Once again, this 00:03:40.240 --> 00:03:43.199 is the book of Acts chapter 1 verse 4 and 5 in 00:03:43.199 --> 00:03:46.000 the New Living Translation. Once he was eating 00:03:46.000 --> 00:03:48.520 with them, he commanded them. This is either 00:03:48.520 --> 00:03:51.800 saying Jesus sent them to do this. Do not leave 00:03:51.800 --> 00:03:54.259 Jerusalem until the Father sends you the gift 00:03:54.259 --> 00:03:57.840 he promised as I told you. before John baptized 00:03:57.840 --> 00:04:01.479 with water but in just a few days you will be 00:04:01.479 --> 00:04:04.039 baptized with the Holy Spirit now what's so interesting 00:04:04.039 --> 00:04:06.419 about that is that these people were already 00:04:06.419 --> 00:04:08.680 followers of the Lord Jesus Christ the Holy Spirit 00:04:08.680 --> 00:04:11.500 had come to dwell and live inside of them their 00:04:11.500 --> 00:04:13.740 bodies became the temple of the Holy Spirit just 00:04:13.740 --> 00:04:16.259 like ours do and so it's important we understand 00:04:16.259 --> 00:04:18.759 that because then he says in a few days he says 00:04:18.759 --> 00:04:20.720 you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit so 00:04:20.720 --> 00:04:22.500 that means there's another step there's another 00:04:22.500 --> 00:04:24.819 experience that we can have and I'll cover that 00:04:24.819 --> 00:04:26.850 in just a little bit but first let's look at 00:04:26.850 --> 00:04:29.449 another scripture here in Acts chapter 2 and 00:04:29.449 --> 00:04:31.850 verses 1 through 4 in the New Living Translation 00:04:31.850 --> 00:04:33.689 listen very carefully to this we're laying the 00:04:33.689 --> 00:04:35.470 foundation the groundwork for what we're talking 00:04:35.470 --> 00:04:38.449 about today on the day of Pentecost all the believers 00:04:38.449 --> 00:04:41.170 were meeting together in one place suddenly there 00:04:41.170 --> 00:04:43.750 was a sound from heaven like the roaring of a 00:04:43.750 --> 00:04:45.730 mighty windstorm and it filled the house where 00:04:45.730 --> 00:04:48.389 they were sitting then what looked like flames 00:04:48.389 --> 00:04:51.569 our tongues of fire appeared and settled on each 00:04:51.569 --> 00:04:54.920 one of them and everyone Present was filled. 00:04:55.079 --> 00:04:57.199 Here it said everyone present was filled with 00:04:57.199 --> 00:05:00.019 the Holy Spirit and began speaking in other languages 00:05:00.019 --> 00:05:03.100 as the Holy Spirit gave them this ability. So 00:05:03.100 --> 00:05:05.879 here we're seeing another experience with the 00:05:05.879 --> 00:05:08.139 Holy Spirit that the Holy Spirit now is moving 00:05:08.139 --> 00:05:12.399 into them and causing them to experience a greater 00:05:12.399 --> 00:05:15.019 relationship with the Holy Spirit. And then as 00:05:15.019 --> 00:05:17.079 we read along in Acts chapter 2, let's go down 00:05:17.079 --> 00:05:19.720 to verse 17. Peter is preaching to the crowd 00:05:19.720 --> 00:05:22.639 and here's what Peter said. It's found in Acts 00:05:22.639 --> 00:05:43.829 chapter 2. Now there's a lot more scriptures 00:05:43.829 --> 00:05:45.829 to read about and I would encourage you to read 00:05:45.829 --> 00:05:48.629 the book of Acts chapter 1 and chapter 2. They're 00:05:48.629 --> 00:05:51.410 so important to understand the very beginning 00:05:51.410 --> 00:05:53.990 of the of the Holy Spirit or the baptism of the 00:05:53.990 --> 00:05:56.350 Holy Spirit. We see this in operation in the 00:05:56.350 --> 00:05:58.629 scriptures that I just read you and also the 00:05:58.629 --> 00:06:01.430 gifts of the Spirit are in operation. This is 00:06:01.430 --> 00:06:04.269 experiencing the Holy Spirit. This is the type 00:06:04.269 --> 00:06:06.310 of things I want to talk about that we can have 00:06:06.310 --> 00:06:08.610 in our life operating in our lives today. Now 00:06:08.610 --> 00:06:11.389 there are many ways we can experience the Holy 00:06:11.389 --> 00:06:14.329 Spirit. That means know that he's alive and well 00:06:14.329 --> 00:06:16.709 in us and helping us and guiding us and directing 00:06:16.709 --> 00:06:19.730 us. He is interested in every area of our life. 00:06:19.730 --> 00:06:22.379 Now it doesn't matter what you Take to the Lord, 00:06:22.579 --> 00:06:24.800 if it's important to you, it's important to God. 00:06:24.920 --> 00:06:26.680 It doesn't matter how simple you might think 00:06:26.680 --> 00:06:29.279 it is. Once again, if it's something that's in 00:06:29.279 --> 00:06:30.980 your mind you were thinking about, something 00:06:30.980 --> 00:06:32.800 you need to talk about, we need to take it to 00:06:32.800 --> 00:06:34.839 the Lord and ask the Holy Spirit to help us and 00:06:34.839 --> 00:06:37.040 guide us and direct us. Because I believe, like 00:06:37.040 --> 00:06:40.220 I said before, he is, the Holy Spirit is interested 00:06:40.220 --> 00:06:42.860 in every area of our life, whether it be finances, 00:06:42.980 --> 00:06:44.560 whether it be health, whether it be marriage, 00:06:44.639 --> 00:06:46.959 whether it be careers, whether it be going to 00:06:46.959 --> 00:06:49.819 school, whether it be dating, whether it be raising 00:06:49.819 --> 00:06:51.670 children, whatever it may be. might be the Holy 00:06:51.670 --> 00:06:54.189 Spirit is interested in every single area of 00:06:54.189 --> 00:06:56.910 our life and He wants us to experience Him to 00:06:56.910 --> 00:06:58.910 handle all these issues and all these various 00:06:58.910 --> 00:07:00.930 levels of experiences that we'll have in our 00:07:00.930 --> 00:07:04.269 life. The Holy Spirit is the Comforter, our Advocate. 00:07:04.269 --> 00:07:06.189 That means He's got our back, He's got us covered. 00:07:06.350 --> 00:07:09.889 He does not want us to try to handle things on 00:07:09.889 --> 00:07:13.769 our own or our way. It's so important we understand 00:07:13.769 --> 00:07:16.670 that, that God has a way that's greater and bigger 00:07:16.670 --> 00:07:19.250 than ours. Isaiah 55 says that, that His thoughts 00:07:19.250 --> 00:07:23.670 are higher than And God has released the power 00:07:23.670 --> 00:07:26.149 of the Holy Spirit here on earth in order to 00:07:26.149 --> 00:07:29.149 help us with all of his ways and his thoughts 00:07:29.149 --> 00:07:31.649 and his ideas and the way he wants us to go. 00:07:31.790 --> 00:07:35.490 The Holy Spirit wants us to seek him. He wants 00:07:35.490 --> 00:07:38.430 us to pursue him. Some people say, well, how 00:07:38.430 --> 00:07:40.350 do you pursue the Holy Spirit? Well, I'll give 00:07:40.350 --> 00:07:43.149 you a list of things to do shortly. But bottom 00:07:43.149 --> 00:07:45.370 line, we just need to submit ourselves to the 00:07:45.370 --> 00:07:47.350 Lord, go to church and start worshiping. Once 00:07:47.350 --> 00:07:49.290 you go through the doors, we enter into his core. 00:07:49.160 --> 00:07:51.920 with Thanksgiving and praise. We need to give 00:07:51.920 --> 00:07:53.800 praise to the Lord. Today I'm finding that a 00:07:53.800 --> 00:07:56.319 lot of people come to church late because they're 00:07:56.319 --> 00:07:58.699 missing out on the worship time. That's a very 00:07:58.699 --> 00:08:01.740 important time to prepare us to get ready for 00:08:01.740 --> 00:08:03.259 what the Word of God is going to be preached 00:08:03.259 --> 00:08:06.160 in our church. So if worship is songs or being 00:08:06.160 --> 00:08:08.699 sung and we're worshiping together as a church 00:08:08.699 --> 00:08:11.000 in unity, we need to be a part of that because 00:08:11.000 --> 00:08:13.779 that is so crucial to experience the power of 00:08:13.779 --> 00:08:16.379 the Holy Spirit in our lives. He wants us to 00:08:16.379 --> 00:08:18.819 pursue Him. We pursue Him through attendance 00:08:18.819 --> 00:08:20.639 at church, through reading the Word of God, through 00:08:20.639 --> 00:08:23.459 prayer, through giving worship and praise, and 00:08:23.459 --> 00:08:26.560 in worship services. Our attitude must be filled 00:08:26.560 --> 00:08:29.620 with an anticipation and expectation of greater 00:08:29.620 --> 00:08:31.959 things. You know, when we go to church, we should 00:08:31.959 --> 00:08:34.779 go with anticipation. We should go expecting 00:08:34.779 --> 00:08:36.759 God to do something special. You know, every 00:08:36.759 --> 00:08:39.080 single time my wife and I get in the car to drive 00:08:39.080 --> 00:08:41.360 to church, as we back out of the driveway, we're 00:08:41.360 --> 00:08:43.039 praying. Now I have my eyes open, because I'm 00:08:43.039 --> 00:08:44.860 not going to run into someone, but we're praying, 00:08:44.960 --> 00:08:46.700 and we're saying, Heavenly Father, I pray that 00:08:46.700 --> 00:08:49.549 you would... bless and protect us as we go to 00:08:49.549 --> 00:08:51.350 church today. You know, after we 00:09:11.750 --> 00:09:14.149 prayed that, in various times it's shorter, sometimes 00:09:14.149 --> 00:09:16.490 it's longer, but we basically pray that general 00:09:16.429 --> 00:09:19.529 prayer before we go to church because we're anticipating 00:09:19.529 --> 00:09:22.129 and expecting something special to happen because 00:09:22.129 --> 00:09:25.250 we know when we get there, the Holy Spirit is 00:09:25.250 --> 00:09:27.330 already there when two or more are gathered there. 00:09:27.750 --> 00:09:30.690 God says He's there when we lift Him up. And 00:09:30.690 --> 00:09:33.090 when we get there and join that, then we're part 00:09:33.090 --> 00:09:35.169 of the move of God that's taking place in our 00:09:35.169 --> 00:09:38.490 church. We need to delight in Him in the Holy 00:09:38.490 --> 00:09:40.909 Spirit and He will give us the desires of our 00:09:40.909 --> 00:09:43.450 heart. We delight not in our desires, we delight 00:09:43.450 --> 00:09:45.750 in Him and then He'll give us the desires of 00:09:45.639 --> 00:09:48.320 heart and the desires of our heart will be God's 00:09:48.320 --> 00:09:50.720 will according to what he desires for us. And it's 00:10:19.799 --> 00:10:21.940 a beautiful thing. It's a wonderful thing. It's 00:10:21.940 --> 00:10:26.480 alive and well today. Now, this is one of the 00:10:26.480 --> 00:10:29.059 many experiences that we can have in the Holy 00:10:29.059 --> 00:10:32.179 Spirit. Experiencing the Holy Spirit is the way 00:10:32.179 --> 00:10:35.659 of life that God wants us to have. We can experience 00:10:35.659 --> 00:10:38.700 the works of the Spirit, the voice of the Spirit, 00:10:38.960 --> 00:10:41.399 the love of the Spirit, the hope of the Spirit, 00:10:41.480 --> 00:10:43.820 the comfort of the Spirit. And those are all 00:10:43.820 --> 00:10:46.899 things that we need and desire in our walk with 00:10:46.899 --> 00:10:50.559 God. We need to experience the power of the Holy 00:10:50.559 --> 00:10:53.080 Spirit in our life. Now before I pray for you, 00:11:32.009 --> 00:11:35.169 I would like to kind of discuss how we prepare 00:11:35.169 --> 00:11:37.929 ourselves to receive. It's the same way when 00:11:37.929 --> 00:11:39.889 someone comes up front in church and I had someone 00:11:39.889 --> 00:11:41.269 the other day come up to me and say I want to 00:11:41.269 --> 00:11:43.029 be baptized with the Holy Spirit. I want that 00:11:43.029 --> 00:11:45.490 in my prayer language. And I first talked to 00:11:45.490 --> 00:11:47.269 them and I said some of these things to them 00:11:47.269 --> 00:11:49.710 to prepare them to be sure that they were ready, 00:11:49.830 --> 00:11:52.129 prepared to receive. They're not coming up saying, 00:11:52.289 --> 00:11:54.090 well, I hope this happens or maybe it'll happen 00:11:54.090 --> 00:11:56.129 or possibly it might happen. No, they're coming 00:11:56.129 --> 00:11:58.409 forward to have someone agree with them in prayer 00:11:58.409 --> 00:12:00.950 so that the baptism of the Holy Spirit will come 00:12:00.950 --> 00:12:03.269 into their life and they'll have this beautiful, 00:12:03.590 --> 00:12:06.220 powerful prayer language that is just between 00:12:06.220 --> 00:12:08.820 them and God. And that when you pray in that 00:12:08.820 --> 00:12:11.440 wonderful language, you'll be praying the divine 00:12:11.440 --> 00:12:13.419 will of God. I know I said that before, but it's 00:12:13.419 --> 00:12:15.580 so important to understand that. You're not praying 00:12:15.580 --> 00:12:17.580 your will, and we're praying the divine will 00:12:17.580 --> 00:12:20.200 of God. Now following, here's a list of things 00:12:20.200 --> 00:12:22.740 that we can do or should do in order to prepare 00:12:22.740 --> 00:12:25.659 ourselves to be able to receive this wonderful 00:12:25.659 --> 00:12:28.519 gift. We want to read in the book of Acts chapters 00:12:28.519 --> 00:12:31.240 one and two, how it happened in the early church 00:12:31.240 --> 00:12:33.659 on the day of Pentecost, and what Jesus has promised 00:12:33.659 --> 00:12:36.730 before he left. that in a few days the Holy Spirit 00:12:36.730 --> 00:12:38.710 will come and he will baptize you. Well, then 00:12:38.710 --> 00:12:41.409 all the, and it happened and we need to understand 00:12:41.409 --> 00:12:43.529 that. The word of God tells us that the Holy Spirit 00:12:53.470 --> 00:12:56.289 lives and abides in us and we've got to believe 00:12:56.289 --> 00:12:58.330 that and accept that. I know there's some days 00:12:58.330 --> 00:13:00.690 I don't feel too much like the Holy Spirit's 00:13:00.690 --> 00:13:02.470 living in me because I get a little wrapped up 00:13:02.470 --> 00:13:04.389 in the flesh or get a little upset. or a little 00:13:04.389 --> 00:13:06.629 bit anxious about something, but then the Holy 00:13:06.629 --> 00:13:08.870 Spirit tells me I'm not to be anxious about anything. 00:13:09.070 --> 00:13:10.909 I'm not supposed to get upset about anything. 00:13:11.070 --> 00:13:13.429 I'm supposed to be at peace, and I can only be 00:13:13.429 --> 00:13:16.070 that way through Him. The third thing that we need to do 00:13:42.940 --> 00:13:46.399 is to pray to our Heavenly Father to fill us 00:13:46.399 --> 00:13:49.179 with the baptism of the Holy Spirit. And because 00:13:49.179 --> 00:13:51.340 that shows that we have a desire for that, we 00:13:51.340 --> 00:13:54.059 want it, we need it, we desire it. Number four, 00:13:54.279 --> 00:13:57.240 it says we need to spend time with our pastor 00:13:57.240 --> 00:14:00.620 or our spiritual mentor about how to receive. 00:14:00.799 --> 00:14:03.799 this beautiful gift. Now obviously this depends 00:14:03.799 --> 00:14:06.759 if our individual friends or our pastor believes 00:14:06.759 --> 00:14:08.980 that the Holy Spirit is still baptizing today. 00:14:09.080 --> 00:14:10.879 But it didn't say in the Word of God that he'll 00:14:10.879 --> 00:14:13.899 only baptize until after Jesus, until shortly 00:14:13.899 --> 00:14:16.220 after Jesus leaves and then it'll all stop. Here's a fifth thing I believe that 00:14:34.610 --> 00:14:36.190 we should do to prepare ourselves to receive 00:14:36.190 --> 00:14:38.870 anything from God to not only the baptism of 00:14:38.870 --> 00:14:41.450 the Holy Spirit, but to experience the Holy Spirit 00:14:41.450 --> 00:14:44.070 in just about any way. Begin all prayers with 00:14:44.070 --> 00:14:46.590 praise and worship. I mentioned earlier that 00:14:46.590 --> 00:14:48.230 when we go to church, the first thing we should 00:14:48.230 --> 00:14:50.950 do is have praise and worship and submit our 00:14:50.950 --> 00:14:53.289 prayers to God. And we need to do that before 00:14:53.289 --> 00:14:55.970 we ask the Holy Spirit to help us in any area 00:14:55.970 --> 00:14:59.600 of our life. Number five, begin our quest. for 00:14:59.600 --> 00:15:02.179 experiencing more of the Holy Spirit with praise 00:15:02.179 --> 00:15:05.580 and with worship. Number six, be still and wait 00:15:05.580 --> 00:15:07.759 on the Holy Spirit. Now, the Bible says to be 00:15:07.759 --> 00:15:10.179 still and know that I am God. Well, it applies 00:15:10.179 --> 00:15:13.019 to the Holy Spirit because God the Holy Spirit 00:15:13.019 --> 00:15:16.000 here lives on earth in us, in our bodies. God 00:15:16.000 --> 00:15:18.620 the Father not only lives here in us, but he's 00:15:18.620 --> 00:15:21.220 also in the heavenlies and Jesus is with him 00:15:21.220 --> 00:15:24.299 and we don't have three gods. We have one God 00:15:24.299 --> 00:15:26.980 in three parts, God the Father, God the Son and 00:15:26.980 --> 00:15:30.169 God the Holy Spirit make up one. If we do that, it renders us available to 00:16:02.620 --> 00:16:05.360 God. We're surrendered. I know when I've been diagnosed 00:18:31.839 --> 00:18:34.119 with illnesses and incurable cancers and things 00:18:34.119 --> 00:18:36.420 and I'm by myself in the hospital or here at 00:18:36.420 --> 00:18:38.619 home or something and my wife is busy and I may 00:18:38.619 --> 00:18:40.819 be taking a rest or a nap or something or just 00:18:40.819 --> 00:18:44.059 lying down. If I just rest in the Lord, he brings 00:18:44.059 --> 00:18:46.299 these things to me. He brings love. He brings 00:18:46.299 --> 00:18:48.920 joy. He brings hope. He brings expectation. He 00:18:48.920 --> 00:18:51.279 sets me free from the diagnosis from the doctor 00:18:51.279 --> 00:18:54.359 and he brings safety and comfort and strength 00:18:54.359 --> 00:18:57.019 and all those things he brings to me. Now to experience 00:19:22.539 --> 00:19:26.019 all the Holy Spirit has available to us we must 00:19:26.019 --> 00:19:29.799 allow him to have access to our heart and to 00:19:29.799 --> 00:19:31.799 our mind. We've got to clear our thought life 00:19:31.799 --> 00:19:34.720 out.
