Let's just see how the 00:01:45.340 --> 00:01:48.159 Lord leads us. I kind of want to start off with 00:01:48.159 --> 00:01:50.120 talking about the difference between what God 00:01:50.120 --> 00:01:52.859 intends for us and what we sometimes do in our 00:01:52.859 --> 00:01:54.700 flesh. Matter of fact, what we do all the time 00:01:54.700 --> 00:01:57.180 in our flesh is to get what we want when we want 00:01:57.180 --> 00:01:59.000 it. And so let's look at a scripture I think 00:01:59.000 --> 00:02:00.840 that helps us out to get started on this topic. 00:02:00.780 --> 00:02:03.540 the Holy Spirit brings peace. It's found in Romans 00:02:03.540 --> 00:02:07.000 chapter 14 verse 17 in the New Living Translation. 00:02:07.120 --> 00:02:10.000 For the Kingdom of God is not a matter of what 00:02:10.000 --> 00:02:13.840 we can eat or drink, but of living a life of 00:02:13.840 --> 00:02:16.580 goodness and peace and joy in the spirit. So 00:02:16.580 --> 00:02:19.400 now this kind of combines last podcast and this 00:02:19.400 --> 00:02:21.800 podcast because it talks about both peace and 00:02:21.800 --> 00:02:24.219 joy, but it's so important we get the premise 00:02:24.219 --> 00:02:26.120 of this down and that is what the scripture is 00:02:26.120 --> 00:02:28.460 telling us is that God plans something better 00:02:28.460 --> 00:02:30.599 for us than just simply what we can eat or drink 00:02:30.599 --> 00:02:32.819 or the car we drive or the house we live in or 00:02:32.819 --> 00:02:34.800 the vacations we go on or the clothes that we 00:02:34.800 --> 00:02:36.960 wear. All those things can be fine as long as 00:02:36.960 --> 00:02:38.979 they don't get in the way of serving God. So 00:02:38.979 --> 00:02:40.860 those things can be fine but that's what life 00:02:40.860 --> 00:02:43.379 is not about. Life is not about how big a house 00:02:43.379 --> 00:02:46.219 you've got. Life is not about who is making the 00:02:46.219 --> 00:02:48.080 most money and all your friends from high school 00:02:48.080 --> 00:02:51.400 or college. It's about far more than that. It's 00:02:51.400 --> 00:02:54.759 about living a life it says of goodness and peace 00:02:54.759 --> 00:02:57.860 and joy in the Holy Spirit. So what this scripture 00:02:57.860 --> 00:03:01.490 is telling me is that I can't find peace and 00:03:01.490 --> 00:03:04.509 joy without the Holy Spirit because my flesh, 00:03:04.789 --> 00:03:07.969 my self -centeredness doesn't desire those things 00:03:07.969 --> 00:03:09.849 of God. It desires the things that I want to 00:03:09.849 --> 00:03:11.629 be pleased with. It's going to be those things 00:03:11.629 --> 00:03:14.650 that I think I need, my wants, my needs, and 00:03:14.650 --> 00:03:17.490 my desires. The things that control many of our 00:03:17.490 --> 00:03:19.689 lives are the things that get in the way of what 00:03:19.689 --> 00:03:22.349 God wants to give us. Many times I talk to people 00:03:22.349 --> 00:03:24.710 who are very successful financially but they 00:03:24.710 --> 00:03:27.530 have no peace. They don't have any joy in their 00:03:27.530 --> 00:03:29.509 life and they sit back and wonder they've got 00:03:29.509 --> 00:03:31.629 all the money they've got all the success and 00:03:31.629 --> 00:03:34.650 all those things and yet they're so unhappy it's 00:03:34.650 --> 00:03:36.789 because they don't understand this scripture 00:03:36.789 --> 00:03:39.009 and they're violating it once again the scripture 00:03:39.009 --> 00:03:42.189 is for the kingdom of God is not a matter of 00:03:42.189 --> 00:03:46.319 what we can eat or drink but of living a life 00:03:46.319 --> 00:03:49.939 of goodness and peace and joy. And the key is 00:03:49.939 --> 00:03:52.340 in the Holy Spirit. And that's what this podcast 00:03:52.340 --> 00:03:55.580 is all about. This series is what we can do in 00:03:55.580 --> 00:03:57.759 the Holy Spirit. We're gonna look at some of 00:03:57.759 --> 00:04:01.120 these introduction comments that I made earlier 00:04:01.120 --> 00:04:03.360 in this podcast when I first started it off. 00:04:03.479 --> 00:04:05.319 And I always do that. I always give kind of an 00:04:05.319 --> 00:04:07.419 outline of what we're gonna cover and the topics 00:04:07.419 --> 00:04:09.199 we're gonna cover. And this particular one, I 00:04:09.199 --> 00:04:11.740 really felt led to go a little more specifically 00:04:11.740 --> 00:04:14.539 into those, very specifically. and take them 00:04:14.539 --> 00:04:16.899 one at a time. So the first one is how can we 00:04:16.899 --> 00:04:20.420 live in peace during trials? Well, Galatians 00:04:20.420 --> 00:04:23.300 5 22, I used it in the last podcast where we 00:04:23.300 --> 00:04:25.600 read about the Holy Spirit gives the gift of 00:04:25.600 --> 00:04:29.160 peace because Galatians 5 22 talks about the 00:04:29.160 --> 00:04:31.459 fruit of the Spirit which is love and joy and 00:04:31.459 --> 00:04:33.680 peace and patience and goodness and kindness 00:04:33.680 --> 00:04:36.339 and gentleness and thankfulness and you know 00:04:36.339 --> 00:04:38.600 those wonderful qualities and self -control those 00:04:38.600 --> 00:04:40.699 are the things that we need to have in our life 00:04:40.699 --> 00:04:43.290 and only the Holy Spirit can bring those into 00:04:43.290 --> 00:04:45.949 our lives. So the question is, how can we live 00:04:45.949 --> 00:04:49.730 in peace during trials while we yield ourselves 00:04:49.730 --> 00:04:52.290 to the Holy Spirit and we yield ourselves to 00:04:52.290 --> 00:04:54.850 receive that peace and that joy? See, peace is 00:04:54.850 --> 00:04:57.750 not a feeling. It's not, oh, I feel good today 00:04:57.750 --> 00:04:59.889 or I feel good about this or feel good about 00:04:59.889 --> 00:05:02.470 that. The feel good thing can come or go. I mean, 00:05:02.470 --> 00:05:04.550 we can feel good one day and feel terrible the 00:05:04.550 --> 00:05:07.629 next day, but we can live a life walking in joy 00:05:07.629 --> 00:05:10.269 and walking in peace. And that's what this whole 00:05:10.269 --> 00:05:12.930 series is about, to be led by the Holy Spirit 00:05:12.930 --> 00:05:14.930 and allow the Holy Spirit to do the things in 00:05:14.930 --> 00:05:16.810 our life that He wants to do. Some people say, 00:05:16.970 --> 00:05:18.709 well, I feel this and I feel that. I don't like 00:05:18.709 --> 00:05:21.329 to talk about how I feel. I like to talk about 00:05:21.329 --> 00:05:24.649 how my faith is and my trust in God is and where 00:05:24.649 --> 00:05:28.250 my confidence is and who I put my trust and strength 00:05:28.250 --> 00:05:31.009 in, and that's the Lord Jesus Christ. Because 00:05:31.009 --> 00:05:33.810 I talk about those feelings. It's so easy to 00:05:33.810 --> 00:05:37.310 say the word feeling in reality. They come and 00:05:37.310 --> 00:05:39.970 go. Feelings will hurt us. They will desert us. 00:05:40.069 --> 00:05:42.470 See, the devil himself can come after my feelings 00:05:42.470 --> 00:05:45.129 but he can't rob me of my peace. When God gives 00:05:45.129 --> 00:05:48.829 me peace and trials get into my life, peace wins. 00:05:49.089 --> 00:05:51.790 Peace wins out when we have a right relationship 00:05:51.790 --> 00:05:54.069 with the Lord and we're following the Holy Spirit 00:05:54.069 --> 00:05:56.589 and being led by him. So let's go to the next 00:05:56.589 --> 00:05:58.949 question now and see what it has to say. Why 00:05:58.949 --> 00:06:01.990 do so many live Without peace. Well, there's 00:06:01.990 --> 00:06:03.889 there's a lot of reasons I could probably just 00:06:03.889 --> 00:06:06.410 stop here and spend the next 30 minutes Talking 00:06:06.410 --> 00:06:08.889 just about this particular one because because 00:06:08.889 --> 00:06:10.790 there's so many people that don't have peace 00:06:10.790 --> 00:06:13.350 I can remember many many times being the pastor 00:06:13.350 --> 00:06:15.569 of our church and you know, and I would ask people 00:06:15.569 --> 00:06:17.410 honestly I'm gonna ask a question. I want everybody 00:06:17.410 --> 00:06:18.930 to close your eyes and bow your heads. I don't 00:06:18.930 --> 00:06:20.769 want anybody looking around I'm gonna ask you 00:06:20.769 --> 00:06:23.850 a question How many people need peace in your 00:06:23.850 --> 00:06:27.170 life and I'm telling you 75 80 percent of the 00:06:27.170 --> 00:06:29.139 church would raise their hand and I would say, 00:06:29.240 --> 00:06:31.319 okay, put your hands down, how many people lack 00:06:31.319 --> 00:06:34.019 joy? You want to have more joy? And 50 or 60 00:06:34.019 --> 00:06:35.779 % of the church would raise its hand because 00:06:35.779 --> 00:06:38.959 people live without peace and without joy and 00:06:38.959 --> 00:06:41.579 it's not necessary that we do that. There is 00:06:41.579 --> 00:06:44.680 an old saying that says, some things are taught 00:06:44.680 --> 00:06:47.279 and some things are caught. I use that from time 00:06:47.279 --> 00:06:49.759 to time in podcasts because that's the truth 00:06:49.759 --> 00:06:53.079 of the matter is I can teach you about a premise, 00:06:53.259 --> 00:06:55.439 but you've got to catch it, which means you have 00:06:55.439 --> 00:06:58.839 to receive it and take it in and receive that 00:06:58.839 --> 00:07:01.639 as God's Word for your life. So I'm going to 00:07:01.639 --> 00:07:04.199 read a scripture here that I used to read all 00:07:04.199 --> 00:07:06.259 the time before I became a Christian. I read 00:07:06.259 --> 00:07:08.360 it in Sunday School and all that before I gave 00:07:08.360 --> 00:07:10.100 my life to Christ. And I just read it and I thought, 00:07:10.120 --> 00:07:12.259 well that's nice, but I didn't understand really 00:07:12.259 --> 00:07:15.170 what it meant. And so... I had it been taught 00:07:15.170 --> 00:07:17.910 to me, but I had never caught it. I never received 00:07:17.910 --> 00:07:20.250 it into my life. And the scripture that answers, 00:07:20.589 --> 00:07:23.209 I believe the question the best as to why some 00:07:23.209 --> 00:07:25.689 people live without peace is they don't understand, 00:07:25.709 --> 00:07:27.990 they have not caught Philippians chapter four, 00:07:28.209 --> 00:07:30.149 verses six and seven. This is the apostle Paul. 00:07:30.350 --> 00:07:32.290 This is one of my absolute favorite scriptures 00:07:32.290 --> 00:07:34.430 in the entire word of God, but it's absolutely 00:07:34.430 --> 00:07:38.350 my favorite scripture dealing with peace. It's 00:07:38.350 --> 00:07:40.730 so important that we take this in and receive 00:07:40.730 --> 00:07:43.129 it now. Since it's my favorite, I hope I got 00:07:43.129 --> 00:07:45.470 your attention. The Apostle Paul is talking. 00:07:45.870 --> 00:07:48.430 He's being led by the Holy Spirit when he wrote 00:07:48.430 --> 00:07:50.709 these words in Philippians chapter 4 verses 6 00:07:50.709 --> 00:07:53.029 and 7. I'm reading it out of the New International 00:07:53.029 --> 00:08:06.300 Version. Peace of God, which transcends all understanding, 00:08:06.720 --> 00:08:10.139 will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. 00:08:10.399 --> 00:08:12.620 Now, there's so much to be said here. I'll make 00:08:12.620 --> 00:08:14.459 it quick, but there's so many important things. 00:08:14.579 --> 00:08:17.699 Number one, the first premise is, do not be anxious 00:08:17.699 --> 00:08:20.319 about anything. I also used to tell my congregation 00:08:20.319 --> 00:08:22.720 at the end of a service, I'd say, I might read 00:08:22.720 --> 00:08:24.920 this scripture and say, if we can just get one 00:08:24.920 --> 00:08:26.519 thing out of the service today, get absolutely 00:08:26.519 --> 00:08:28.860 nothing else but just this one thing, Philippians 00:08:28.860 --> 00:08:31.439 chapter four, verse six, do not be anxious about 00:08:31.439 --> 00:08:33.919 anything. Many people here would love to walk 00:08:33.919 --> 00:08:36.419 out of here and not have to be anxious about 00:08:36.419 --> 00:08:38.139 anything, and everybody would agree to that. 00:08:38.340 --> 00:08:40.460 That's something that we all want to have in 00:08:40.460 --> 00:08:42.980 our life. But it says, but in every situation, 00:08:43.159 --> 00:08:46.360 good or bad, not just bad, but good or bad, by 00:08:46.360 --> 00:08:49.019 prayer, alright, that's the foundation of our 00:08:49.019 --> 00:08:52.580 having peace, and by prayer and petition with 00:08:52.580 --> 00:08:55.440 thanksgiving, what we bring to God with thanksgiving, 00:08:55.500 --> 00:08:57.080 we've got to be thankful when we bring prayers 00:08:57.080 --> 00:09:00.220 to God, present your request to God, and the 00:09:00.220 --> 00:09:02.779 peace of God. Now, the peace of God, it doesn't 00:09:02.779 --> 00:09:05.100 say the peace of man, it doesn't say the peace 00:09:05.100 --> 00:09:07.240 of your pastor, it doesn't say the peace of your 00:09:07.240 --> 00:09:09.980 husband or your wife. The peace of God, that's 00:09:09.980 --> 00:09:13.320 why it's so amazing to catch this. It's the peace 00:09:13.320 --> 00:09:16.559 of God which transcends, which means it's way 00:09:16.559 --> 00:09:20.590 beyond. All understanding will guard your hearts 00:09:20.590 --> 00:09:23.429 and your mind in Christ Jesus. So if we want 00:09:23.429 --> 00:09:27.029 to have Holy Spirit -led peace, that scripture, 00:09:27.110 --> 00:09:29.009 I would make it one that you would pray every 00:09:29.009 --> 00:09:31.970 day. Matter of fact, I do not go to bed at night 00:09:31.970 --> 00:09:34.669 before I have quoted this scripture and read 00:09:34.669 --> 00:09:36.649 it, and I thank God for it. I like to read it 00:09:36.649 --> 00:09:38.889 this way, just so I go to bed. Heavenly Father, 00:09:39.110 --> 00:09:42.029 I thank you that my wife and I don't have to 00:09:42.029 --> 00:09:45.269 be anxious about anything. but we can bring everything 00:09:45.269 --> 00:09:48.429 to you in every situation and we can pray to 00:09:48.429 --> 00:09:51.750 you and bring our petitions to you and be thankful 00:09:51.750 --> 00:09:53.690 for who you are and what you've done that we 00:09:53.690 --> 00:09:57.129 can present Lord to you our request to you Lord 00:09:57.129 --> 00:10:01.389 and you God will give us your peace which transcends 00:10:01.389 --> 00:10:04.330 all understanding and it will guard my heart 00:10:04.330 --> 00:10:07.389 and my wife's heart and it will guard my mind 00:10:07.389 --> 00:10:10.730 and my wife's mind in Christ Jesus. That's the 00:10:10.730 --> 00:10:12.570 way I like to pray because see I like the scriptures 00:10:12.570 --> 00:10:15.100 to be read to where they apply to me so that 00:10:15.100 --> 00:10:17.519 I know art applied to someone else. The scriptures become alive 00:10:21.899 --> 00:10:24.340 and we catch what it's saying rather than just 00:10:24.340 --> 00:10:26.220 being taught what it's saying. You see, this 00:10:26.220 --> 00:10:29.509 scripture can be taught. constantly, but it will 00:10:29.509 --> 00:10:32.610 not help us until we catch it, we receive it, 00:10:32.610 --> 00:10:34.690 we accept it. It's the same thing about becoming 00:10:34.690 --> 00:10:36.789 a Christian. You can be taught about being a 00:10:36.789 --> 00:10:38.850 Christian. I was for many, many years. I was 00:10:38.850 --> 00:10:41.269 25 years old before I became a Christian, and 00:10:41.269 --> 00:10:44.250 for probably 20 of those years, I remember going 00:10:44.250 --> 00:10:46.629 to Sunday school and Bible classes and vacation 00:10:46.629 --> 00:10:49.570 Bible school, all those things. I was in two 00:10:49.570 --> 00:10:51.389 or three different types of churches, and my 00:10:51.389 --> 00:10:53.009 mom and dad always made sure we went to church, 00:10:53.049 --> 00:10:55.049 but none of us, including my mom and dad, were 00:10:55.049 --> 00:10:56.870 Christians. We had never committed our life to 00:10:56.870 --> 00:10:58.870 Christ. We were being taught about these things. 00:10:59.049 --> 00:11:01.090 I knew all the little stories, all those things 00:11:01.090 --> 00:11:03.870 that I'd heard, but I didn't catch it that it 00:11:03.870 --> 00:11:06.509 has an impact on my life. So when I caught it, 00:11:06.509 --> 00:11:08.690 I was 25 years old, is when I finally caught 00:11:08.690 --> 00:11:12.590 the idea that John 3 .16 says, God so loved the 00:11:12.590 --> 00:11:15.309 world that he gave his only begotten son that 00:11:15.309 --> 00:11:18.230 whosoever believeth in him. would not perish 00:11:18.230 --> 00:11:20.769 but have everlasting life. I had heard it for 00:11:20.769 --> 00:11:22.870 years and years and years. I was being taught 00:11:22.870 --> 00:11:26.129 that, but I didn't catch it until one day I realized 00:11:26.129 --> 00:11:28.929 there's more to this Bible than what I'm seeing 00:11:28.929 --> 00:11:31.590 and I received Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior 00:11:31.590 --> 00:11:34.210 and everything started to change. Our marriage 00:11:34.210 --> 00:11:37.090 changed, our lives changed, my career changed, 00:11:37.210 --> 00:11:40.110 God was in control and my life has never been 00:11:40.110 --> 00:11:42.610 the same ever since. Thank the Lord for that. 00:11:42.850 --> 00:11:44.610 Now here's another question I had at the beginning 00:11:44.610 --> 00:11:49.139 of this podcast. so difficult for non -believers? 00:11:49.379 --> 00:11:51.899 Well, see, they place their trust in something 00:11:51.899 --> 00:11:54.440 other than God, everything else but not God. 00:11:54.639 --> 00:11:57.700 In Matthew chapter 6 verses 19 through 21, the 00:11:57.700 --> 00:12:00.419 New Living Translation, it says, don't store 00:12:00.419 --> 00:12:04.039 up treasures here on earth where moss and eat 00:12:04.039 --> 00:12:08.259 them and rust destroys them and where thieves 00:12:08.259 --> 00:12:12.159 or when thieves break in and steal. So what that 00:12:12.159 --> 00:12:15.179 means is that it's saying basically, the treasures 00:12:15.179 --> 00:12:17.139 that we have here on Earth, we're not going to 00:12:17.139 --> 00:12:18.740 take them with us. They're all going to perish. 00:12:19.039 --> 00:12:21.720 Not too long ago I was at a funeral, a man was 00:12:21.720 --> 00:12:24.220 worth millions and millions of dollars, incredibly 00:12:24.220 --> 00:12:26.419 wealthy man, very, very successful in so many 00:12:26.419 --> 00:12:29.179 different ways, and yet he was gone. And they 00:12:29.179 --> 00:12:31.419 took his body, they put it in a coffin, and they 00:12:31.419 --> 00:12:33.740 buried him. And that's over. That body is now 00:12:33.740 --> 00:12:35.879 here on earth. But his soul went to heaven. He 00:12:35.879 --> 00:12:38.480 was a follower of Jesus Christ. But he left all 00:12:38.480 --> 00:12:41.840 of his possessions behind. And I think the family 00:12:41.840 --> 00:12:43.740 is going to take care of things and settle things 00:12:43.740 --> 00:12:46.299 easily. I hope so. But bottom line, we spend 00:12:46.299 --> 00:12:48.379 so much time, if we're not careful, we'll spend 00:12:48.379 --> 00:12:51.480 so much time trying to acquire stuff here and 00:12:51.480 --> 00:12:53.580 help ourselves financially. But we don't do anything 00:12:53.580 --> 00:12:56.480 to help ourselves spiritually. This man did take 00:12:56.480 --> 00:12:59.679 the time to produce a spiritual life. And he 00:12:59.679 --> 00:13:01.500 became a Christian, a follower of Jesus Christ. 00:13:01.259 --> 00:13:03.659 and became a very generous man in a lot of ways, 00:13:03.700 --> 00:13:06.840 but he was still gone. But deep inside, God has created man 00:16:00.379 --> 00:16:03.379 with a desire to follow Him. There's no doubt 00:16:03.379 --> 00:16:06.200 in my mind that the Holy Spirit is out there 00:16:06.200 --> 00:16:08.340 hovering around the earth, going around, you 00:16:08.340 --> 00:16:10.940 know, and trying to draw people into a relationship 00:16:10.940 --> 00:16:13.399 with Jesus Christ. And I believe that God created 00:16:13.399 --> 00:16:16.220 in us a desire to serve something greater than 00:16:16.220 --> 00:16:19.350 us. And when we do that, we will find Jesus Christ. 00:16:19.610 --> 00:16:22.330 Isaiah chapter 26 and verse 3 says, you will 00:16:22.330 --> 00:16:24.710 keep in perfect peace, listen to that, whose 00:16:24.710 --> 00:16:29.250 mind is stayed on you because he trusts in you. 00:16:29.590 --> 00:16:32.690 Okay, so another way that we can keep peace and 00:16:32.690 --> 00:16:36.529 not lose peace is keep our mind stayed or focused 00:16:36.529 --> 00:16:39.879 on God. focused on prayer, focused on his word, 00:16:40.100 --> 00:16:42.559 listen to Christian music, be around other Christians, 00:16:42.779 --> 00:16:45.500 attend church faithfully, not once a month, not 00:16:45.500 --> 00:16:49.000 once a year, but faithfully. Every time on Sunday, 00:16:49.279 --> 00:16:51.200 get up and go to church. If we trust 00:17:22.460 --> 00:17:24.900 God with all of our heart, we lean not on our 00:17:24.900 --> 00:17:27.339 own understanding and always acknowledge Him, 00:17:27.519 --> 00:17:30.059 then He will direct our steps. And when He does 00:17:30.059 --> 00:17:33.660 that, we will have peace. everything that we 00:17:33.660 --> 00:17:36.480 put our hand to. Okay, let's move on. Some may define 00:17:42.160 --> 00:17:45.019 peace as financial security. Matter of fact, 00:17:45.140 --> 00:17:47.740 when I was a banker I met a lot of people. That's 00:17:47.740 --> 00:17:49.700 how they would define peace. It's well -being 00:17:49.700 --> 00:17:51.900 financially well -off. Yet those people, many 00:17:51.900 --> 00:17:53.599 of them who were financially well -off, were 00:17:53.599 --> 00:17:56.200 not at peace unless they were followers of the 00:17:56.200 --> 00:17:58.920 Lord Jesus Christ. You cannot have peace that 00:17:58.920 --> 00:18:01.519 Jesus has until you give your life to Jesus Christ. 00:18:01.289 --> 00:18:04.210 Christ. You surrender your will and your desires 00:18:04.210 --> 00:18:06.009 and everything that you want to do to the Lord 00:18:06.009 --> 00:18:08.630 Jesus Christ. You surrender to Him, ask for forgiveness 00:18:08.630 --> 00:18:11.049 of your sins, receive Him as your Lord and Savior, 00:18:11.069 --> 00:18:14.650 and then the peace of God comes into our life. 00:18:14.750 --> 00:18:17.309 It's so important we understand that. There's 00:18:19.170 --> 00:18:21.410 nothing wrong with financial security, but I 00:18:21.410 --> 00:18:23.329 don't like the statement financial independence 00:18:23.329 --> 00:18:26.109 because as a Christian financial independence 00:18:26.109 --> 00:18:28.329 is basically saying I don't need anything other 00:18:28.329 --> 00:18:30.730 than finances. Financial independence, I I know 00:18:30.730 --> 00:18:32.990 what it means. I remember I've taught finances 00:18:32.990 --> 00:18:35.609 for years. I was a banker for 15 years, real 00:18:35.609 --> 00:18:38.150 estate developer for 20 years, and I've taught 00:18:38.150 --> 00:18:40.569 and written on the topics of finances and all 00:18:40.569 --> 00:18:43.309 those things and success and generosity. I understand 00:18:43.309 --> 00:18:45.250 all that, but the thing we've got to remember 00:18:45.250 --> 00:18:48.029 is that financial independence, those aren't 00:18:48.029 --> 00:18:49.960 words that a Christian should have. We should 00:18:49.960 --> 00:18:52.079 be dependent. Our finances should be dependent 00:18:52.079 --> 00:18:54.839 upon God, upon who He is and what He does. And 00:18:54.839 --> 00:18:57.619 we must give of what we have first to Him. And 00:18:57.619 --> 00:18:59.500 I believe in tithing. I believe in giving 10 00:18:59.500 --> 00:19:01.500 % of everything that we make back to the work 00:19:01.500 --> 00:19:03.720 of the Lord through my local church. I believe 00:19:03.720 --> 00:19:06.819 that, and God has never made me feel that I regretted 00:19:06.819 --> 00:19:09.200 it. I've never in my life ever regretted giving 00:19:09.200 --> 00:19:11.259 finances to the Lord. It seems like when I work 00:19:11.259 --> 00:19:13.640 with the 90 % I have left over, I accomplish 00:19:13.640 --> 00:19:16.319 more with that 90 than I could with the 100 % 00:19:16.319 --> 00:19:18.819 of my finances I had before I decided to give 00:19:18.759 --> 00:19:21.779 of God the first fruits of what I receive. So 00:19:21.779 --> 00:19:24.259 people in the world who have a problem with peace, 00:19:24.400 --> 00:19:26.700 they define it as maybe it's financial security 00:19:26.700 --> 00:19:29.240 or it's having a lovely home or something. And 00:19:29.240 --> 00:19:32.059 those are good things. And finances are fine. 00:19:32.440 --> 00:19:35.079 Finances are not evil. It's the love of finances, 00:19:35.240 --> 00:19:37.819 the love of money that's evil. But there's nothing 00:19:37.819 --> 00:19:41.359 about finances that can bring true peace. I mean, 00:19:41.599 --> 00:19:44.140 absolute true peace, the peace that Jesus talked 00:19:44.140 --> 00:19:46.640 about. The apostle Paul wrote about peace and 00:19:46.640 --> 00:19:50.019 money. to Timothy about it. Timothy was a young 00:19:50.019 --> 00:19:51.720 man that was getting involved in a church and 00:19:51.720 --> 00:19:53.559 Paul was trying to teach him and train him. And 00:19:53.559 --> 00:19:56.380 in 1st Timothy chapter 6 and verse 10, New Living 00:19:56.380 --> 00:19:58.839 Translation, listen to this, this is absolutely 00:19:58.839 --> 00:20:01.839 powerful. For the love of money is the root, 00:20:01.839 --> 00:20:05.700 right, of all kinds of evil. And some people, 00:20:05.700 --> 00:20:09.160 craving money, have wondered from true faith 00:20:09.160 --> 00:20:13.569 and pierced themselves with many sorrows. That's 00:20:13.569 --> 00:20:15.549 it. It might give 00:20:48.579 --> 00:20:51.400 a little bit of what the world calls peace temporarily, 00:20:51.519 --> 00:20:54.299 but not true peace. There's nothing wrong with 00:20:54.299 --> 00:20:56.319 money. Nothing wrong. We need it. We got to use 00:20:56.319 --> 00:20:58.180 it. We have to spend it. We have to build churches 00:20:58.180 --> 00:21:00.059 with it. We have to help other people with it. 00:21:00.079 --> 00:21:02.180 We need to provide for our needs with it. So 00:21:02.180 --> 00:21:04.039 that's important. So there's nothing wrong with 00:21:04.039 --> 00:21:06.319 money. I know over time stock market 00:21:32.900 --> 00:21:35.480 keeps going consistently up, but it's not a whole 00:21:35.480 --> 00:21:38.240 lot of fun when it drops down 20 or 30 or 40%. 00:21:38.240 --> 00:21:40.700 And I'm not talking of whether stock is good 00:21:40.700 --> 00:21:42.940 or stock is bad, that's not the point. The Holy 00:22:02.559 --> 00:22:05.779 Spirit gives that gift to the Christian who desires 00:22:05.779 --> 00:22:08.779 to be led by Him. If you want to have peace, 00:22:09.059 --> 00:22:10.640 you want to have it in your life, then you've 00:22:10.640 --> 00:22:12.460 got to draw close to God. When we draw close 00:22:12.460 --> 00:22:15.220 to Him, He draws close to us. Holy Spirit led peace gives us a satisfying 00:24:02.079 --> 00:24:05.480 life. Holy Spirit led peace tells us that it's 00:24:05.480 --> 00:24:08.759 God's way, not my way. These are the things that 00:24:08.759 --> 00:24:11.900 we've got to remember and draw into our life 00:24:11.900 --> 00:24:15.039 in order to truly understand how the Holy Spirit 00:24:15.039 --> 00:24:17.420 brings peace.
