We find it in the book of Acts 00:01:32.629 --> 00:01:35.909 chapter 1 and verse 8, but you will receive power. 00:01:36.090 --> 00:01:39.049 I'm gonna repeat that. But you will receive power 00:01:39.049 --> 00:01:41.349 when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, and you 00:01:41.349 --> 00:01:44.290 will be my witnesses telling people about me 00:01:44.290 --> 00:01:46.390 everywhere. See, right off, right at the very 00:01:46.390 --> 00:01:48.609 beginning, Jesus wanted them to understand the 00:01:48.609 --> 00:01:51.709 Holy Spirit was coming to bring power into their 00:01:51.709 --> 00:01:53.810 life. And a lot of people, I don't think, understand 00:01:53.810 --> 00:01:56.370 that that that power is available to us when 00:01:56.370 --> 00:01:58.590 we receive Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior 00:01:58.590 --> 00:02:01.650 and we accept Him into our life and we... totally 00:02:01.650 --> 00:02:03.569 turn ourselves around and ask for forgiveness 00:02:03.569 --> 00:02:05.730 of our sins, say, Father, I'm sorry for the sins 00:02:05.730 --> 00:02:07.629 I've committed. I pray that you'd forgive me 00:02:07.629 --> 00:02:09.710 and cleanse me from all unrighteousness. I receive 00:02:09.710 --> 00:02:12.110 Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior. When we're 00:02:12.110 --> 00:02:14.789 sincere, as soon as that happens, the power of 00:02:14.789 --> 00:02:16.949 the Holy Spirit comes and dwells inside of us 00:02:16.949 --> 00:02:19.409 and takes over. And Jesus spoke about that. And 00:02:19.409 --> 00:02:21.810 he says, when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, 00:02:21.889 --> 00:02:24.270 you're going to receive power. That 00:03:01.659 --> 00:03:04.219 power comes upon us and it says primarily so 00:03:04.219 --> 00:03:06.900 that we will be witnesses telling people about 00:03:06.900 --> 00:03:09.340 Jesus Christ everywhere that we go. Now, when Jesus was talking about, this 00:03:18.560 --> 00:03:22.139 is when Jesus used the word power in a very definite, 00:03:22.139 --> 00:03:24.659 direct way and the Holy Spirit. They put them 00:03:24.659 --> 00:03:28.280 together. Jesus was emphasizing their need to 00:03:28.280 --> 00:03:30.560 have power. We know that we need to have power 00:03:30.560 --> 00:03:32.620 because the devil goes around like a roaring 00:03:32.620 --> 00:03:35.539 lion seeking whom he may devour But Jesus said 00:03:35.539 --> 00:03:38.419 Jesus said he's come and he's given come to give 00:03:38.419 --> 00:03:40.699 us life and give it to us more abundantly The 00:03:40.699 --> 00:03:43.240 only way that we can live the abundant life is 00:03:43.240 --> 00:03:45.000 through the power and the anointing of the Holy 00:03:45.000 --> 00:03:47.819 Spirit That's alive and well and each and every 00:03:47.819 --> 00:03:50.759 one of us Jesus knew the unlimited power that 00:03:50.759 --> 00:03:53.180 the Holy Spirit would bring to his followers 00:03:53.180 --> 00:03:55.879 would be life -changing Radically life -changing 00:03:55.879 --> 00:03:58.219 and would give them power to overcome the challenge 00:03:58.159 --> 00:04:00.900 that they face in each and every day. Now, we 00:04:00.900 --> 00:04:03.039 then, after we read this scripture in Acts chapter 00:04:03.039 --> 00:04:05.740 1 and verse 8, we should run over to Acts chapter 00:04:05.740 --> 00:04:07.900 2 and verses 1 through 4. Now, I'm not going 00:04:07.900 --> 00:04:11.080 to read word by word this scripture and read 00:04:11.080 --> 00:04:14.199 you all four verses, but I want to kind of paraphrase 00:04:14.199 --> 00:04:16.339 it. I'm very careful when I say the word paraphrase 00:04:16.339 --> 00:04:18.720 because it's not my opinion. It's what I believe 00:04:18.720 --> 00:04:20.620 the Holy Spirit wants me to share with you about 00:04:20.620 --> 00:04:23.699 what this is telling you. Basically, these scriptures 00:04:23.699 --> 00:04:25.920 are telling us that the Holy Spirit came down 00:04:25.920 --> 00:04:28.389 on the day of Pentecost. where the disciples 00:04:28.389 --> 00:04:31.029 were praying, now He came to them. Isn't that 00:04:31.029 --> 00:04:32.769 wonderful? They were praying, they were seeking 00:04:32.769 --> 00:04:34.670 God, they want the power of God to come upon 00:04:34.670 --> 00:04:37.089 them, and the Holy Spirit came to them as they 00:04:37.089 --> 00:04:39.310 were praying, as they were worshiping and praying 00:04:39.310 --> 00:04:41.769 and seeking the face of God. It says that the 00:04:41.769 --> 00:04:45.009 Holy Spirit basically came down as a mighty wind. 00:04:45.189 --> 00:04:47.370 Boy, you know, picture that, try and imagine 00:04:47.370 --> 00:04:49.550 that. The power of the Holy Spirit came into 00:04:49.550 --> 00:04:52.870 that room and like a mighty wind to take control 00:04:52.870 --> 00:04:55.509 and take authority. It says, and flames settled 00:04:55.509 --> 00:04:58.050 on everyone, They were all filled with the Holy 00:04:58.050 --> 00:05:00.430 Spirit and began to speak in other languages. 00:05:00.709 --> 00:05:04.269 So this is telling us that this event was just 00:05:04.269 --> 00:05:07.529 radical. It was incredible. This, in my opinion, 00:05:07.750 --> 00:05:10.389 is the, not just my opinion, but many theologians 00:05:10.389 --> 00:05:13.689 believe that this is when the Church was established, 00:05:13.709 --> 00:05:15.949 when the power of the Holy Spirit came down and 00:05:15.949 --> 00:05:18.370 He anointed everyone. He filled them with His 00:05:18.370 --> 00:05:20.370 presence and His power and they began to speak 00:05:20.370 --> 00:05:22.550 in other languages and other tongues. At that 00:05:22.550 --> 00:05:25.550 time, He was probably distributing gifts to people. 00:05:25.800 --> 00:05:28.779 of faith and and gifts of healing and miracles 00:05:28.779 --> 00:05:30.560 and those things were coming down because the 00:05:30.560 --> 00:05:32.819 Holy Spirit was there to do what Jesus called 00:05:32.819 --> 00:05:36.360 him to do and this event didn't go away and end 00:05:36.360 --> 00:05:38.620 there and the power of the Holy Spirit is alive 00:05:38.620 --> 00:05:41.600 and well today on this planet. He's alive and 00:05:41.600 --> 00:05:43.620 well in each and every one of us and our churches 00:05:43.620 --> 00:05:46.019 need to feel the power and the presence of the 00:05:46.019 --> 00:05:48.860 Holy Spirit come upon them and experience that 00:05:48.860 --> 00:05:51.139 and know what it's like to pray in the Spirit 00:05:51.139 --> 00:05:52.959 and operate in the gifts of the Spirit and have 00:05:52.959 --> 00:05:54.819 the fruit of the Spirit in their life and that's 00:05:54.819 --> 00:05:57.160 why I'm into this whole series on the Holy Spirit 00:05:57.160 --> 00:05:59.240 because I believe there's so much that we need 00:05:59.240 --> 00:06:01.199 to learn, that we need to teach, and the Holy 00:06:01.199 --> 00:06:03.759 Spirit needs to come alive and be active in our 00:06:03.759 --> 00:06:06.720 life, in every single believer's life. Now this 00:06:06.720 --> 00:06:09.680 event established the power of the Holy Spirit. 00:06:09.959 --> 00:06:12.199 That, the upper room, that prayer time, when 00:06:12.199 --> 00:06:14.100 the power of the tongues interpretations and 00:06:14.100 --> 00:06:16.740 stuff came forward and all that was being manifested 00:06:16.740 --> 00:06:19.360 in that room, it really established the fact 00:06:19.360 --> 00:06:23.000 that the Holy Spirit had incredible power. Throughout 00:06:23.000 --> 00:06:25.740 the book of Acts, that we read about how the 00:06:25.740 --> 00:06:28.560 Holy Spirit filled the disciples with power. 00:06:28.720 --> 00:06:30.980 Now once again, it didn't stop right there. I 00:06:30.980 --> 00:06:32.920 know some people teach that, that that was it, 00:06:32.920 --> 00:06:35.040 that was over then. But see, that was the day 00:06:35.040 --> 00:06:36.899 of Pentecost. That was the day the Holy Spirit 00:06:36.899 --> 00:06:39.100 came down. And I believe that's the day that 00:06:39.100 --> 00:06:41.060 the church was established. And shortly after 00:06:41.060 --> 00:06:43.180 that, Peter became the preacher, the pastor, 00:06:43.300 --> 00:06:45.379 and he preached a sermon like nothing he's ever 00:06:45.379 --> 00:06:48.040 done before because the Holy Spirit led him when 00:06:48.040 --> 00:06:50.279 he spoke. And I'm not gonna get into that sermon 00:06:50.279 --> 00:06:52.660 that he did right now. Maybe in an additional 00:06:52.660 --> 00:06:54.990 podcast we might. But for right now, I want to 00:06:54.990 --> 00:06:57.569 stay focused on just what took place in the upper 00:06:57.569 --> 00:06:59.870 room and talk about the power of the Holy Spirit. 00:07:00.050 --> 00:07:03.329 See, today the Holy Spirit is the same, totally 00:07:03.329 --> 00:07:05.949 and completely. This podcast will lay a foundation 00:07:56.019 --> 00:07:59.180 of the Holy Spirit's power, what it is, and how 00:07:59.180 --> 00:08:02.019 we can receive his power. Alright, so get ready 00:08:02.019 --> 00:08:04.779 as we continue on. The power of the Holy Spirit 00:08:04.779 --> 00:08:07.860 that dwells in Christians helps us to defeat 00:08:07.860 --> 00:08:10.899 the attacks of Satan. The Holy Spirit is a part 00:08:10.899 --> 00:08:14.379 of the Divine Godhead. Here is my definition 00:08:14.379 --> 00:08:18.060 of the Divine Godhead. It means God is one God 00:08:18.060 --> 00:08:21.410 that exists in three distinct persons, God the 00:08:21.410 --> 00:08:23.870 Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit, 00:08:24.129 --> 00:08:27.410 also known as the Trinity. Now we have one God 00:08:27.410 --> 00:08:30.490 in three persons and to some this is pretty basic 00:08:30.490 --> 00:08:33.750 stuff but to others this may bring clarity and 00:08:33.750 --> 00:08:35.529 help you to understand what the Trinity is and 00:08:35.529 --> 00:08:38.730 when we hear someone talk about the Triune God. 00:08:38.830 --> 00:08:41.070 Now I believe that the power of the Holy Spirit 00:08:41.070 --> 00:08:44.970 is also shown in the Bible as being omnipotent, 00:08:45.049 --> 00:08:48.090 having unlimited power, omnipresent which means 00:08:48.090 --> 00:08:51.490 everywhere all the time and omniscient all -knowing. 00:08:51.509 --> 00:08:54.610 Now that's really important for us to understand 00:08:54.610 --> 00:08:56.889 because sometimes people live their life as a 00:08:56.889 --> 00:08:59.629 Christian and they don't realize the power that 00:08:59.629 --> 00:09:02.129 dwells inside of them. They are taught sometimes 00:09:02.129 --> 00:09:04.549 that well let's not go there and the Holy Spirit 00:09:04.549 --> 00:09:07.230 came but you know maybe he's in us but on the 00:09:07.230 --> 00:09:10.070 other hand maybe he's not one doesn't want to 00:09:10.070 --> 00:09:11.769 do anything in us and doesn't want to give us 00:09:11.769 --> 00:09:13.850 any power and you hear these different teachings 00:09:13.850 --> 00:09:16.509 around I know I did for years until I went to 00:09:16.509 --> 00:09:18.970 a church that explained the power of the Holy 00:09:18.970 --> 00:09:21.750 Spirit and talked about how the Holy Spirit operates 00:09:21.750 --> 00:09:24.309 in so many ways and that there are gifts of the 00:09:24.309 --> 00:09:26.110 Spirit and there is the fruit of the Spirit and 00:09:26.110 --> 00:09:28.330 many things that can happen in our life that's 00:09:28.330 --> 00:09:30.970 available to us if we only seek God and draw 00:09:30.970 --> 00:09:33.850 closer to him. So when we think of the Holy Spirit, 00:09:33.909 --> 00:09:37.149 we must never refer to him as it. I've heard 00:09:37.149 --> 00:09:40.909 people say it, it, it. The Holy Spirit is a man. 00:09:41.029 --> 00:09:43.710 It's the person of God. It's part of the triune 00:09:43.710 --> 00:09:46.190 God. And so therefore we've got to understand 00:09:46.190 --> 00:09:50.039 and relate to his omnipotent power and his omnipresent 00:09:50.039 --> 00:09:53.419 power and his omniscient power. And when we do 00:09:53.419 --> 00:09:57.019 that, we realize what an incredible amount of 00:09:57.019 --> 00:09:59.080 power and authority that we have in the name 00:09:59.080 --> 00:10:02.320 of Jesus as the Holy Spirit operates in us. Now, 00:10:02.340 --> 00:10:04.440 let me give you an example of the Holy Spirit 00:10:04.440 --> 00:10:07.279 being omnipotent and having that omnipotent power. 00:10:07.440 --> 00:10:09.539 I believe it's found in 1 Corinthians chapter 00:10:09.539 --> 00:10:11.879 12, where it talks about the Holy Spirit decides 00:10:11.879 --> 00:10:15.179 who he gives the gifts of tongues and interpretation 00:10:15.179 --> 00:10:17.899 and the gifts of miracles and prophecy and healing 00:10:17.899 --> 00:10:20.159 and wisdom and knowledge and all that and in 00:10:20.159 --> 00:10:22.360 great faith matter of fact that great faith is 00:10:22.360 --> 00:10:24.419 going to be I believe as the Holy Spirit leads 00:10:24.419 --> 00:10:26.559 going to be my next podcast coming up talking 00:10:26.559 --> 00:10:28.919 about the Holy Spirit giving great faith but 00:10:28.919 --> 00:10:31.679 for now I want to we should understand that this 00:10:31.679 --> 00:10:34.980 is omnipotent power this is power that with great 00:10:34.980 --> 00:10:37.860 authority all authority and the Holy Spirit decides 00:10:37.860 --> 00:10:41.440 who he gives these gifts to that's a great example 00:10:41.440 --> 00:10:44.059 of his power and his working inside of each and 00:10:44.059 --> 00:10:46.639 every one of us an example of his omniscient 00:10:46.639 --> 00:10:49.440 knowledge, I believe is found when Jesus said 00:10:49.440 --> 00:10:52.860 in John chapter 14 and verse 26, he says, but 00:10:52.860 --> 00:10:57.399 when the father sends the advocate as my representative, 00:10:57.860 --> 00:11:00.960 that is the Holy Spirit, he will teach you everything 00:11:00.960 --> 00:11:03.720 and will remind you of everything I have told 00:11:03.720 --> 00:11:05.419 you. Now, look at that. Jesus is telling you 00:11:05.419 --> 00:11:08.460 now, wait a minute, who I'm sending you has great 00:11:08.460 --> 00:11:12.059 power and that he is your advocate. He's there 00:11:12.059 --> 00:11:14.679 to help you and to be with you and he's a representative 00:11:14.570 --> 00:11:17.429 that's going to come into you and he's going 00:11:17.429 --> 00:11:20.429 to teach you everything that's what you need 00:11:20.429 --> 00:11:23.830 to know and will remind you of what you've already 00:11:23.830 --> 00:11:26.210 learned. Now isn't that nice to know that our 00:11:26.210 --> 00:11:28.590 memory doesn't have to just be based upon our 00:11:28.590 --> 00:11:31.370 memory abilities, but we can have the Holy Spirit 00:11:31.370 --> 00:11:34.070 bring forth things that we've learned before 00:11:34.070 --> 00:11:36.830 and bring forth scriptures that we need for that 00:11:36.830 --> 00:11:38.690 moment. I think that's the most wonderful, one 00:11:38.690 --> 00:11:40.450 of the most wonderful things we have with the 00:11:40.450 --> 00:11:42.830 working the Holy Spirit in us is when we are 00:11:42.830 --> 00:11:44.750 talking to someone or sharing something with 00:11:44.750 --> 00:11:47.429 someone and the Holy Spirit reminds us of a scripture 00:11:47.429 --> 00:11:50.289 and you quote that scripture. You may not know 00:11:50.289 --> 00:11:52.450 what I call the address, the location of it, 00:11:52.570 --> 00:11:55.149 what the chapter and verse or book is, but you 00:11:55.149 --> 00:11:57.649 do know the scripture and you can say that scripture 00:11:57.649 --> 00:12:00.029 because the Holy Spirit will then bring it to 00:12:00.029 --> 00:12:02.230 you. He can give you the exact address of that 00:12:02.230 --> 00:12:04.450 scripture, whatever he wants to do, but all of 00:12:04.450 --> 00:12:06.389 a sudden you're speaking and then you know you'll 00:12:06.389 --> 00:12:09.309 go from just your speaking into Spirit -led speaking 00:12:09.309 --> 00:12:11.549 and he's giving you the right scripture for that 00:12:11.549 --> 00:12:14.029 person at the right time. or he gives you a prayer 00:12:14.029 --> 00:12:16.269 where you pray the right words at the right time. 00:12:16.330 --> 00:12:19.730 That is the omnipotent power of the Holy Spirit. 00:12:19.830 --> 00:12:22.169 That's his omniscient power that he's got and 00:12:22.169 --> 00:12:25.330 he has the ability to do that if we yield to 00:12:25.330 --> 00:12:28.429 him, if we surrender our will and our thoughts 00:12:28.429 --> 00:12:31.409 and our mind and our desires. That's why I never 00:12:31.409 --> 00:12:34.129 do a podcast without first inviting the Holy 00:12:34.129 --> 00:12:36.730 Spirit in to take control. I surrender what I've 00:12:36.730 --> 00:12:38.929 done, the thoughts that I've put in. I may have 00:12:38.929 --> 00:12:41.649 hours and hours of preparation to put a podcast 00:12:41.649 --> 00:12:44.429 together But that will be of no value unless 00:12:44.429 --> 00:12:47.070 the Holy Spirit comes in and he anoints it. He 00:12:47.070 --> 00:12:49.110 brings the anointing. Man talks about his great computers that 00:14:46.389 --> 00:14:49.190 he's developed and his ability to do this and 00:14:49.190 --> 00:14:51.990 his ability to have great memory banks and all 00:14:51.990 --> 00:14:54.169 this kind of stuff. Think about this. The Holy 00:14:54.169 --> 00:14:57.750 Spirit has the capacity to witness to all eight 00:14:57.750 --> 00:15:00.470 billion people on earth at the exact same time. 00:15:00.570 --> 00:15:03.730 He can share his thoughts. He can express himself 00:15:03.730 --> 00:15:06.529 to people in a way that is a still quiet voice. 00:15:06.590 --> 00:15:09.029 He can fill people with the Holy Spirit, with 00:15:09.029 --> 00:15:10.970 the evidence of speaking in another language. 00:15:11.049 --> 00:15:14.090 He can give interpretations. In the New Living Translation 00:17:17.319 --> 00:17:20.400 it says this, I can never escape from your spirit. 00:17:20.599 --> 00:17:23.940 I can never get away from your presence. David 00:17:23.940 --> 00:17:26.690 knew the Holy Spirit was everywhere. Now a lot 00:17:26.690 --> 00:17:28.309 of people say, well you know it's not the same 00:17:28.309 --> 00:17:30.289 spirit in the Old Testament as in the New Testament. 00:17:30.450 --> 00:17:33.869 Oh yes it is. During creation the Spirit of God 00:17:33.869 --> 00:17:37.450 hovered around the atmosphere and worked with 00:17:37.450 --> 00:17:40.750 God and they created what we see today. Jesus 00:17:40.750 --> 00:17:43.289 was there at the beginning when the earth was 00:17:43.289 --> 00:17:46.269 created. All of this was made available through 00:17:46.269 --> 00:17:49.569 the power of God and now God loves us so much 00:17:49.569 --> 00:17:52.269 that he wants to send the power of the Holy Spirit 00:17:52.269 --> 00:17:54.670 to work in each and every one of us. So those 00:17:54.670 --> 00:17:57.450 of you who are Christians, you know, Jesus Christ 00:17:57.450 --> 00:17:59.910 is your Lord and Savior, then you know that power 00:17:59.910 --> 00:18:02.630 is inside of you. In Romans chapter 15 and 00:19:03.069 --> 00:19:05.470 verse 13, a New Living Translation says this, 00:19:05.589 --> 00:19:08.390 I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill 00:19:08.390 --> 00:19:12.150 you completely with joy and peace because you 00:19:12.150 --> 00:19:15.890 trust in Him. Then you will overflow with confident 00:19:15.890 --> 00:19:18.529 hope through the power of the Holy Spirit. Now 00:19:18.529 --> 00:19:20.829 a lot of people read that scripture and they 00:19:20.829 --> 00:19:22.970 see the promises and all that wonderful things 00:19:22.970 --> 00:19:25.480 that we trust in God and we can overflow and 00:19:25.480 --> 00:19:27.279 have confidence and all these kind of stuff and 00:19:27.279 --> 00:19:30.000 that God is our source of hope but sometimes 00:19:30.000 --> 00:19:32.720 we stop before the end of that scripture that 00:19:32.720 --> 00:19:35.859 says through the power of the Holy Spirit. So 00:19:35.859 --> 00:19:38.579 all of that can operate in our life if we'll 00:19:38.579 --> 00:19:41.180 surrender to the power of the Holy Spirit. Just 00:19:41.180 --> 00:19:44.240 let me give you just one more example of the 00:19:44.240 --> 00:19:46.980 Holy Spirit's power. We read about it in Ephesians 00:19:46.980 --> 00:19:49.960 chapter 6 and verse 11. It says put on all of 00:19:49.960 --> 00:19:53.200 God's armor so that you will be able to stand 00:19:53.200 --> 00:19:55.680 firm against the strategies of the devil. Now 00:19:55.680 --> 00:19:58.900 let me read to you a little bit more about what 00:19:58.900 --> 00:20:02.279 this means. This is found in the book of Ephesians 00:20:02.279 --> 00:20:05.680 chapter 6 and this first verse I gave you kind 00:20:05.680 --> 00:20:08.059 of sets us up for this to put on all of God's 00:20:08.059 --> 00:20:09.960 armor so that you'll be able to stand firm against 00:20:09.960 --> 00:20:12.859 all strategies of the devil. For we are not fighting 00:20:12.859 --> 00:20:15.400 against flesh and blood enemies, but against 00:20:15.400 --> 00:20:18.240 evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world 00:20:18.240 --> 00:20:21.079 against mighty powers in this dark world and 00:20:21.079 --> 00:20:23.579 against evil spirits. in the heavenly places. 00:20:23.819 --> 00:20:26.599 Verse 13, therefore put on every piece of God's 00:20:26.599 --> 00:20:28.799 armor so you will be able to resist the enemy 00:20:28.799 --> 00:20:31.680 in the time of evil. Then after the battle you 00:20:31.680 --> 00:20:34.960 will still be standing firm. Stand your ground, 00:20:35.240 --> 00:20:38.259 putting on the belt of truth and the body armor 00:20:38.259 --> 00:20:41.539 of God's righteousness. If we want power in our life 00:21:19.200 --> 00:21:22.480 we can get it from the greatest power that man 00:21:22.480 --> 00:21:24.799 has ever or will ever see and that's the power 00:21:24.799 --> 00:21:27.980 of God through the Holy Spirit operating in each 00:21:27.980 --> 00:21:30.119 and every one of us. So I hope that that'll be 00:21:30.119 --> 00:21:32.920 a blessing to you and I pray that we'll truly 00:21:32.920 --> 00:21:35.599 understand that the only way that we can put 00:21:35.599 --> 00:21:38.619 on and keep on the armor of God is through the 00:21:38.619 --> 00:21:41.039 power of the Holy Spirit.
