It starts 00:03:57.860 --> 00:04:01.080 with Zacharias in the temple, and how he has 00:04:01.080 --> 00:04:04.900 a visit from Gabriel, and he's not believing 00:04:04.900 --> 00:04:07.919 what Gabriel says, and Gabriel says, okay. No, 00:04:07.960 --> 00:04:10.919 what he was asking was, give me a sign. Give 00:04:10.919 --> 00:04:13.199 me a sign. Okay. And then people came running 00:06:09.879 --> 00:06:15.800 and pulled me up onto the dock, and I felt our 00:06:15.800 --> 00:06:21.079 daughter thrashing. I mean, she experienced my 00:06:21.079 --> 00:06:24.699 adrenaline. And so, you know, a baby threshing 00:06:24.699 --> 00:06:27.480 in your womb, you know that there's something 00:06:27.480 --> 00:06:31.620 serious going on. And she was more than six months 00:06:31.620 --> 00:06:33.680 at that point. She had dreams for a while of 00:06:33.680 --> 00:06:37.120 drowning. Yeah, she did. She did. We prayed, 00:06:37.279 --> 00:06:40.720 but we had some serious issues with that one. 00:06:41.000 --> 00:06:44.439 Anyway, the point is that a baby in the womb 00:06:44.439 --> 00:06:49.449 can react to circumstances. And that's what happened 00:06:49.449 --> 00:06:52.069 with John. That's the point. The point is that 00:06:52.069 --> 00:06:56.410 John reacted. John received the Holy Spirit in 00:06:56.410 --> 00:07:01.350 that moment when Jesus in the womb showed up 00:07:01.350 --> 00:07:04.730 at his house. So, you know, there was already 00:07:04.730 --> 00:07:07.810 interaction between these cousins in the womb. 00:07:08.889 --> 00:07:15.990 Wireless. Yes, wireless. Absolutely. Yeah, there 00:07:15.990 --> 00:07:19.350 was an atmosphere of the presence of God that 00:07:19.350 --> 00:07:22.509 had come on Mary. So she was filled with the 00:07:22.509 --> 00:07:25.730 Holy Spirit, I would say. Yeah, the Holy Spirit's 00:07:25.730 --> 00:07:29.110 living in her. Yeah, the Holy Spirit in the flesh, 00:07:29.350 --> 00:07:33.689 fathered by the Holy Spirit. Jesus was in her 00:07:33.689 --> 00:07:37.589 womb. And so there was an infilling there. Just 00:07:37.589 --> 00:07:40.949 to go back to where Elizabeth was filled, Luke 00:07:40.949 --> 00:07:45.120 1. 41 to 45 from the ESV says, and when Elizabeth 00:07:45.120 --> 00:07:47.339 heard the greeting of Mary, the baby leaped in 00:07:47.339 --> 00:07:49.920 her womb and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy 00:07:49.920 --> 00:07:52.819 Spirit and she exclaimed with a loud cry. So 00:07:52.819 --> 00:07:54.959 here's what happened when she was filled with 00:07:54.959 --> 00:07:57.420 the Holy Spirit. What happened with her mouth? 00:07:57.519 --> 00:08:01.420 Well, she exclaimed, blessed are you among women 00:08:01.420 --> 00:08:03.720 and blessed is the fruit of your womb. And why 00:08:03.720 --> 00:08:06.740 is this granted to me that the mother of my Lord 00:08:06.740 --> 00:08:08.839 should come to me? For behold, when the sound 00:08:08.839 --> 00:08:12.000 of your greeting came to my ears. The baby in 00:08:12.000 --> 00:08:15.300 my womb leaped for joy, and blessed is she who 00:08:15.300 --> 00:08:19.160 believed that there would be a fulfillment of 00:08:19.160 --> 00:08:22.600 that which was spoken to her from the Lord. So she gets filled with 00:08:26.079 --> 00:08:28.500 the Holy Spirit, and boom, out of her mouth comes 00:08:28.500 --> 00:08:31.300 prophecy. How did she know? How did she know 00:08:31.300 --> 00:08:34.100 that it was Mary? Well, she probably recognized 00:08:34.100 --> 00:08:39.259 Mary's voice. Yeah. But to be able to say, blessed 00:08:39.259 --> 00:08:41.950 is the fruit of your womb, Blessed are you among 00:08:41.950 --> 00:08:44.909 women, the mother of my Lord. I mean, how would 00:08:44.909 --> 00:08:49.450 she know that? Except I just came on spontaneous. 00:08:49.450 --> 00:08:52.370 Right, because the Holy Spirit came upon her. 00:08:52.850 --> 00:08:56.129 She was filled with the Holy Spirit. So you made 00:08:56.129 --> 00:08:58.870 the comment this morning when we were studying 00:08:58.870 --> 00:09:02.070 this, that the first person to be filled with 00:09:02.070 --> 00:09:04.110 the Holy Spirit in the New Testament was Elizabeth. 00:09:05.350 --> 00:09:08.129 And she prophesied. She prophesied, yeah. That's 00:09:08.129 --> 00:09:10.330 pretty good, you know. Yeah, it wasn't on the 00:09:10.330 --> 00:09:13.529 Temple Mount, no. No. It wasn't Jerusalem. I 00:09:13.529 --> 00:09:15.889 think the name of the town that is the traditional 00:09:15.889 --> 00:09:19.269 place that Elizabeth and Zacharias lived was 00:09:19.269 --> 00:09:23.529 Ankarim, which is a suburb of Jerusalem. The 00:09:23.529 --> 00:09:26.110 priests didn't necessarily live in Jerusalem, 00:09:26.210 --> 00:09:30.110 but he was close by, Zacharias, I mean. So anyway, 00:09:30.370 --> 00:09:32.490 so Mary was filled with the Holy Spirit, and 00:09:32.490 --> 00:09:36.559 in this exchange. You know, they're both being 00:09:36.559 --> 00:09:38.580 moved by the Holy Spirit in that moment. They're 00:09:38.580 --> 00:09:41.240 prophesying to each other, kind of. And Mary 00:09:41.240 --> 00:09:45.460 responds with, oh, how my soul praises the Lord. 00:09:45.519 --> 00:09:47.820 This is from the New Living Translation. How 00:09:47.820 --> 00:09:50.940 my spirit rejoices in God my Savior. For he took 00:09:50.940 --> 00:09:53.960 notice of his lowly servant girl. And from now 00:09:53.960 --> 00:09:56.679 on, all generations will call me blessed. For 00:09:56.679 --> 00:10:00.220 the mighty one is holy. And he has done great 00:10:00.220 --> 00:10:04.049 things for me. He shows mercy. from generation 00:10:04.049 --> 00:10:09.409 to generation to all who fear him. His mighty 00:10:09.409 --> 00:10:12.429 arm has done tremendous things. He has scattered 00:10:12.429 --> 00:10:14.909 the proud and haughty ones. So it's like the 00:10:35.820 --> 00:10:39.320 servant of the boat. Yeah. Yeah. He has helped 00:10:39.320 --> 00:10:43.139 his servant Israel and remembered to be merciful. 00:10:43.580 --> 00:10:46.600 For he made this promise to our ancestors, to 00:10:46.600 --> 00:10:51.139 Abraham and his children forever. Yeah. Doesn't 00:10:51.139 --> 00:10:53.580 change. Doesn't change. You know, God didn't 00:10:53.580 --> 00:10:56.379 throw away the Jewish people. He didn't throw 00:10:56.379 --> 00:10:59.019 away Israel. Just get that out of your head. 00:10:59.120 --> 00:11:02.039 If you've been taught that, it's not true. So we're still in Luke 00:11:16.419 --> 00:11:20.600 chapter 1, verses 57 to 79 tells this part of 00:11:20.600 --> 00:11:24.100 the story. Now the time had come for Elizabeth. 00:11:24.750 --> 00:11:28.210 to give birth, and she had a son. Then her neighbors 00:11:28.210 --> 00:11:30.570 and relatives heard that the Lord had shown her 00:11:30.570 --> 00:11:33.230 great mercy, and they rejoiced with her. When 00:11:33.230 --> 00:11:35.710 they came to circumcise the child on the eighth 00:11:35.710 --> 00:11:38.610 day, they were going to name him Zechariah after 00:11:38.610 --> 00:11:41.549 his father. But his mother responded, no, he 00:11:41.549 --> 00:11:45.210 will be called John. Then they said to her, none 00:11:45.210 --> 00:11:48.269 of your relatives has that name. Now, it's interesting to me He 00:11:53.590 --> 00:11:56.210 was not able to speak, but it doesn't mean that 00:11:56.210 --> 00:11:58.730 he was deaf. So I don't know why they were motioning 00:11:58.730 --> 00:12:02.450 to him. They couldn't just ask him. So he asked 00:12:02.450 --> 00:12:04.889 for a writing tablet and wrote, his name is John. 00:12:05.250 --> 00:12:08.389 And they were all amazed. Immediately his mouth 00:12:08.389 --> 00:12:11.029 was opened and his tongue set free and he began 00:12:11.029 --> 00:12:16.070 to speak, praising God. Fear came on all those 00:12:16.070 --> 00:12:17.970 who lived around them and all these things were 00:12:17.970 --> 00:12:19.830 being talked about throughout the hill country 00:12:19.830 --> 00:12:22.889 of Judea. Blessed is the Lord, the 00:12:41.840 --> 00:12:44.820 God of Israel, because he has visited and provided 00:12:44.820 --> 00:12:47.799 redemption for his people. He has raised up a 00:12:47.799 --> 00:12:50.139 horn of salvation for us in the house of his 00:12:50.139 --> 00:12:52.940 servant David, just as he spoke by the mouth 00:12:52.940 --> 00:12:55.419 of his holy prophets in ancient times. Pause 00:12:55.419 --> 00:12:58.840 there for just a second. Think about Mary came 00:12:58.840 --> 00:13:04.639 when Elizabeth was in her sixth month, and Zacharias 00:13:04.639 --> 00:13:06.850 would have been home. He would have been there, 00:13:06.929 --> 00:13:09.210 okay? Yeah, because his course didn't start yet. 00:13:09.370 --> 00:13:12.230 So when she's retelling the story of what happened 00:13:12.230 --> 00:13:15.129 when Gabriel appeared to her, I mean, his eyes 00:13:15.129 --> 00:13:18.210 must have gotten wide because he saw the same 00:13:18.210 --> 00:13:22.009 angel. Ooh, yeah, Gabriel. Yeah, he saw Gabriel. 00:13:22.070 --> 00:13:24.450 Gabriel gave this message to him. So it's like, 00:13:24.570 --> 00:13:30.110 oh, this is bigger than I thought. He agreed to do it. But the thing was that 00:38:47.070 --> 00:38:53.750 he was not a godly man. He was an atheist, according 00:38:53.750 --> 00:38:57.769 to this story, and even a socialist. It's not 00:38:57.769 --> 00:39:00.150 the picture of someone you would think writing 00:39:00.150 --> 00:39:03.789 a worship song. Right. But he took on the job, 00:39:03.949 --> 00:39:07.289 and he was kind of excited about it. So I guess 00:39:07.289 --> 00:39:09.590 he decided that the best thing to do is go back 00:39:09.590 --> 00:39:12.980 to the book of Luke and read. And they sang back and forth to each other 00:40:44.849 --> 00:40:47.530 these Christmas carols and just stopped shooting 00:40:47.530 --> 00:40:50.929 for Christmas. Right. Okay. So it's not that he was 00:44:32.170 --> 00:44:36.289 personally such an anointed man. And all these different languages are hearing 00:47:49.420 --> 00:47:52.079 the voice of the Lord. They're hearing these 00:47:52.079 --> 00:47:54.940 disciples talking about the wonderful works of 00:47:54.940 --> 00:47:58.119 God in their languages. Whether they're speaking 00:47:58.119 --> 00:48:00.219 their language or whether they're hearing it 00:48:00.219 --> 00:48:03.639 doesn't matter. They got the message. They're 00:48:03.639 --> 00:48:06.780 in that position of the presence of God where 00:48:06.780 --> 00:48:08.760 he's being poured out. And they're saying, now 00:48:08.760 --> 00:48:13.710 what do we do?
