He was listening. No one said a word 00:03:33.349 --> 00:03:35.569 because they had been arguing about which one 00:03:35.569 --> 00:03:39.030 of them was the greatest. By this time, Jesus has really 00:10:32.539 --> 00:10:37.159 kind of given Peter a lot of clues that he really 00:10:37.159 --> 00:10:40.860 is going to be the one that is going to be spokesman 00:10:40.860 --> 00:10:45.309 for the move after he leaves. Jesus probably 00:10:45.309 --> 00:10:47.970 didn't outwardly say that. No. But it wasn't 00:10:47.970 --> 00:10:50.230 until the day of Pentecost when it actually happened. 00:10:50.309 --> 00:10:52.549 Right. But he had given Peter some clues. You 00:10:52.549 --> 00:10:55.309 know, Jesus said, who do men say that I am? And 00:10:55.309 --> 00:10:58.200 Peter had the answer. Yeah. Thou art the Christ, 00:10:58.460 --> 00:11:01.559 the Son of God. And Jesus said, on this, I'm 00:11:01.559 --> 00:11:04.159 going to build my church. And so, you know, there 00:11:04.159 --> 00:11:06.639 were clues along the way that Peter was going 00:11:06.639 --> 00:11:09.039 to be designated as the guy that was going to 00:11:09.039 --> 00:11:12.620 stand up and preach on that day when the Holy 00:11:12.620 --> 00:11:15.120 Spirit was poured out. Peter the Rock. Peter 00:11:15.120 --> 00:11:18.559 the Rock. But if you remember, that's a long 00:11:18.559 --> 00:11:22.990 time ago now, but episode 139. It was called 00:11:22.990 --> 00:11:25.230 Whatever Your Blunder, It's Forgivable, There's 00:11:25.230 --> 00:11:28.809 Hope. And we went through all of Peter's blunders 00:11:28.809 --> 00:11:31.710 that he did right there at the last. All the 00:11:31.710 --> 00:11:33.909 known blunders. The known blunders, the ones 00:11:33.909 --> 00:11:36.269 that are written in the book where he, you know, 00:11:36.269 --> 00:11:39.230 he just keeps doing everything wrong. He's making 00:11:39.230 --> 00:11:42.450 the wrong choices. So there's hope for all of 00:11:42.450 --> 00:11:45.450 us when we've made a wrong choice. God says, 00:11:45.509 --> 00:11:48.610 do it this way and we do it that way. And so 00:11:48.610 --> 00:11:52.210 Jesus gives Peter an opportunity. at the Last 00:11:52.210 --> 00:11:55.669 Supper by where he posted him. You know, he probably 00:11:55.669 --> 00:11:57.789 came in and said, you sit here, you sit here, 00:11:57.870 --> 00:11:59.610 you sit here, you sit here, you sit here. And 00:11:59.610 --> 00:12:02.049 the last of all was Peter. Peter, you sit over 00:12:02.049 --> 00:12:05.529 there. And if you didn't 00:12:19.120 --> 00:12:22.679 have servants to wash your feet when you came 00:12:22.679 --> 00:12:25.019 in for the dinner, then the guy in that last 00:12:25.019 --> 00:12:28.240 seat is supposed to wash everybody's feet. And 00:12:28.240 --> 00:12:31.460 Peter didn't do it. You know, he was thinking, 00:12:31.659 --> 00:12:36.100 I'm not going to do that. You know, that's why he 00:13:36.059 --> 00:13:38.600 put up a fuss and said, no, no, you can't wash 00:13:38.600 --> 00:13:41.799 my feet. And Jesus said, yeah, I got to wash 00:13:41.799 --> 00:13:43.779 your feet. Or you have no part of me. You have 00:13:43.779 --> 00:13:45.860 no part of me. Oh, well, then wash my head and 00:13:45.860 --> 00:13:49.200 my hands too. No, no, Peter, just your feet. 00:13:49.299 --> 00:13:52.759 That's all we need to do. So, you know, you have this 00:14:22.370 --> 00:14:25.769 thing that Jesus was trying to teach, but he 00:14:25.769 --> 00:14:31.090 was also expressing who he really is. So in Matthew 00:14:31.090 --> 00:14:35.299 12, 39 to 42, It says, But he answered and said 00:14:35.299 --> 00:14:37.779 to them, An evil and adulterous generation seeks 00:14:37.779 --> 00:14:41.200 after a sign, and no sign will be given to it 00:14:41.200 --> 00:14:43.960 except the sign of the prophet Jonah. For as 00:14:43.960 --> 00:14:46.159 Jonah was three days and three nights in the 00:14:46.159 --> 00:14:48.799 belly of the great fish, so will the Son of Man 00:14:48.799 --> 00:14:50.700 be three days and three nights in the heart of 00:14:50.700 --> 00:14:53.600 the earth.
