Then, during medieval and Reformation 00:06:59.360 --> 00:07:03.459 eras, Venerable Bede, who lived in the 8th century, 00:07:04.000 --> 00:07:06.379 calculated the world's creation date, leading 00:07:06.379 --> 00:07:09.920 to theories that the 6000th year, around 2000 00:07:09.920 --> 00:07:13.360 AD, would precede Christ's 1000 -year reign. 00:07:13.620 --> 00:07:15.759 With the hype that also surrounded this transition 00:07:15.759 --> 00:07:18.740 from the year 1999 to the year 2000, known as 00:07:18.740 --> 00:07:22.120 Y2K, and the predictions of global computer problems, 00:07:22.540 --> 00:07:25.879 this was an especially hysterical time. In the modern era, Jehovah's Witnesses 00:07:39.300 --> 00:07:42.259 predicted Christ's invisible return and the end 00:07:42.259 --> 00:07:45.379 of the world governments for the year 1914, a 00:07:45.379 --> 00:07:47.939 date later reinterpreted by Joseph Rutherford. 00:07:48.300 --> 00:07:50.699 How they figured Christ's return would be invisible 00:07:50.699 --> 00:07:53.639 is strange since the Bible is clear when Christ 00:07:53.639 --> 00:07:56.259 returns it will be a global event no one will 00:07:56.259 --> 00:07:59.329 miss. Then there was Harold Camping who predicted 00:07:59.329 --> 00:08:03.709 May 21st, 2011 as Judgment Day, then revised 00:08:03.709 --> 00:08:07.569 the date to October 21, 2011 for Christ's return, 00:08:08.050 --> 00:08:10.990 leading many followers to give away possessions 00:08:10.990 --> 00:08:15.379 in preparation for this end time date. Obviously 00:08:15.379 --> 00:08:17.199 these predictions for the end of the world did 00:08:17.199 --> 00:08:20.680 not come to pass and unfortunately it seems such 00:08:20.680 --> 00:08:23.800 failed predictions are used by the enemy of God 00:08:23.800 --> 00:08:27.819 to cause God's people to miss a proper discernment 00:08:27.819 --> 00:08:31.519 of the times and therefore remain unprepared. 00:08:32.379 --> 00:08:34.879 In recent weeks I've been focused on the end 00:08:34.879 --> 00:08:37.799 times first from the perspective we are closer 00:08:37.799 --> 00:08:39.960 than we've ever been to the final days of earth 00:08:39.960 --> 00:08:43.559 as we know it. It's often been 00:09:01.639 --> 00:09:04.580 said, if Christianity is wrong and there is no 00:09:04.580 --> 00:09:07.580 God, there is no life after death or eternal 00:09:07.580 --> 00:09:10.389 existence, Those who have held to traditional 00:09:10.389 --> 00:09:13.610 Christianity have nothing to lose. On the other 00:09:13.610 --> 00:09:17.370 hand, if Christianity is correct about God and 00:09:17.370 --> 00:09:20.590 life after death, with the only two eternal destinations 00:09:20.590 --> 00:09:23.330 being heaven or hell, then the non -Christian 00:09:23.330 --> 00:09:27.990 has everything to lose.
