He 00:02:58.349 --> 00:03:02.449 developed Parkinson's he had bad knees hit crushed 00:03:02.449 --> 00:03:06.280 discs in his back from loading bombs He had angina 00:03:06.280 --> 00:03:08.219 attacks a few times when I was a kid only to 00:03:08.219 --> 00:03:10.580 find out later through catheterization or getting 00:03:10.580 --> 00:03:13.840 a heart cath done that he had infant size arteries 00:03:13.840 --> 00:03:16.219 in his heart. And so he gets high blood pressure, 00:03:16.439 --> 00:03:20.219 not because of cholesterol or junk, you know, 00:03:20.379 --> 00:03:22.060 filling up his arteries, but because they're 00:03:22.060 --> 00:03:24.039 literally just infant size and they're not pushing 00:03:24.039 --> 00:03:26.419 enough blood. They're not big enough to accommodate 00:03:26.419 --> 00:03:29.740 an adult. He's got sleep apnea. I never 00:03:52.340 --> 00:03:54.340 saw him as anything other. I never thought that 00:03:54.340 --> 00:03:57.259 was a problem for him, right? Because he was 00:03:57.259 --> 00:03:58.879 my dad. He's always been my dad with glasses. 00:03:58.979 --> 00:04:01.620 He's never been my dad without glasses. That's 00:04:01.620 --> 00:04:04.259 who he is. Right? And so... Then we finally decided 00:04:23.939 --> 00:04:26.920 to switch things up, and we decided to just pray. 00:04:27.000 --> 00:04:29.759 God, do something in His life. In 1965, I 00:04:59.759 --> 00:05:01.980 set the Little League record in San Diego for 00:05:01.980 --> 00:05:04.839 being hit by pitched balls. Everybody thought 00:05:04.839 --> 00:05:06.759 I was courageous, but actually I couldn't see 00:05:06.759 --> 00:05:10.240 the darn thing until it hit me. And so I got 00:05:10.240 --> 00:05:12.259 walked more than anybody else in the county. 00:05:13.240 --> 00:05:17.920 So I was blind. And then a smart teacher realized 00:05:17.920 --> 00:05:20.120 that the reason I sat up front was so I could 00:05:20.120 --> 00:05:22.920 figure out what was on the blackboard. And she 00:05:22.920 --> 00:05:24.879 had, the nurse had me tested, and they found 00:05:24.879 --> 00:05:28.939 out, hey, you're 2 ,400 in each eye. That's pretty 00:05:28.939 --> 00:05:35.160 bad. And so on September 16, 2016, I woke up. 00:05:36.199 --> 00:05:38.259 And before I got out of bed, anybody that wears 00:05:38.259 --> 00:05:40.279 glasses will tell you I put my glasses on to 00:05:40.279 --> 00:05:42.639 see what time it was, and I couldn't sleep.
