And you'll find that 00:05:00.870 --> 00:05:03.069 through every story of Scripture, there is no 00:05:03.069 --> 00:05:05.970 warning. We just... We come upon them. No blurred 00:05:05.970 --> 00:05:09.230 images to hide the graphic nature of this man's 00:05:09.230 --> 00:05:13.730 crisis. No filters to make it look better than 00:05:13.730 --> 00:05:18.050 it appeared. And no edits to polish the flaws 00:05:18.050 --> 00:05:23.009 that we see even in the Father's faith. It's 00:05:23.009 --> 00:05:27.589 so raw. Everything about this scene is so emotionally 00:05:27.589 --> 00:05:33.149 raw, upsetting, and intense. One of the more... 00:05:35.900 --> 00:05:39.620 intense scenes in all of the Gospels, in all 00:05:39.620 --> 00:05:41.819 of the ministry of Christ. And there are some 00:05:41.819 --> 00:05:45.500 very intense scenes, some very traumatic, very 00:05:45.500 --> 00:05:49.800 dramatic episodes in the ministry of Christ. 00:05:50.800 --> 00:05:54.199 This is one of those that ranks among the highest 00:05:54.199 --> 00:05:59.560 in terms of its sheer rawness, its sensitivity 00:05:59.560 --> 00:06:04.009 to the eyes and the ears. of all of those who 00:06:04.009 --> 00:06:06.350 were actually there that day to witness this 00:06:06.350 --> 00:06:10.670 happen. And maybe that's why it speaks to us, 00:06:10.790 --> 00:06:14.889 all of us, not just fathers, because in the middle 00:06:14.889 --> 00:06:19.269 of this situation is a desperate father who is 00:06:19.269 --> 00:06:23.569 willing to do everything he can to find a solution 00:06:23.569 --> 00:06:27.550 for his tormented son. But it speaks to all of 00:06:27.550 --> 00:06:30.689 us because we all know what it's like to carry 00:06:30.689 --> 00:06:35.589 something that, we cannot control. Amen, somebody. 00:06:36.410 --> 00:06:40.850 A problem that we thought we could solve, a pain 00:06:40.850 --> 00:06:46.629 we thought would heal in time, a need in our 00:06:46.629 --> 00:06:49.069 family or home that we thought we could manage 00:06:49.069 --> 00:06:55.769 or even hide, sweep under the rug and contain 00:06:55.769 --> 00:07:00.689 in some way. At some point you realize that even 00:07:00.689 --> 00:07:05.449 as children of God, we are not immune to the 00:07:05.449 --> 00:07:11.949 traumas of life, the pain of sin, or the frustration 00:07:11.949 --> 00:07:18.550 of a delayed answer. We're not immune to these 00:07:18.550 --> 00:07:22.910 things. I wish that we were. I wish that as God's 00:07:22.910 --> 00:07:25.389 people, we didn't have to go through these types 00:07:25.389 --> 00:07:27.370 of things. Amen? How many of you wish that too? 00:07:28.000 --> 00:07:32.139 And we will get a few pats from the traumas of 00:07:32.139 --> 00:07:36.600 life. But even as God's children, we too come 00:07:36.600 --> 00:07:39.000 to realize that the rain falls on the just and 00:07:39.000 --> 00:07:42.459 the unjust. And no one can escape these things. 00:07:42.579 --> 00:07:47.620 Not in this side of eternity. And such is the 00:07:47.620 --> 00:07:52.139 case for this father. We don't know the whole 00:07:52.139 --> 00:07:57.019 back story of this father and his son. How the 00:07:57.019 --> 00:08:02.279 son became enslaved to his condition. So it's 00:08:02.279 --> 00:08:07.199 best not to speculate as to why. But what is 00:08:07.199 --> 00:08:11.160 clear, however, is that it was not a new problem. 00:08:13.360 --> 00:08:17.399 This was not something that just happened the 00:08:17.399 --> 00:08:22.379 night before. When Jesus asked how long he had 00:08:22.379 --> 00:08:26.709 been tormented, he answered, from childhood. 00:08:28.569 --> 00:08:35.730 And that two -word answer reveals a lot about 00:08:35.730 --> 00:08:40.690 how the enemy works. I want to, for a few moments, 00:08:40.730 --> 00:08:46.529 alert all of us to the strategy of Satan. We 00:08:46.529 --> 00:08:48.710 must not only know the strategy of Jesus, church, 00:08:48.830 --> 00:08:51.789 we also need to know the strategy of Satan. Somebody 00:08:51.789 --> 00:08:57.820 say amen. Satan has a strategy. And it's revealed 00:08:57.820 --> 00:09:03.039 in this two -word answer. How long has this been 00:09:03.039 --> 00:09:06.799 going on? From childhood. That says a lot, doesn't 00:09:06.799 --> 00:09:11.240 it? What it tells us, first of all, is the pattern 00:09:11.240 --> 00:09:16.120 of the enemy. One that we see all throughout 00:09:16.120 --> 00:09:19.480 Scripture. We see it from the very beginning 00:09:19.480 --> 00:09:24.870 of Scripture. It's such. Infamous stories as 00:09:24.870 --> 00:09:29.250 Pharaoh issuing a decree for all the Hebrew baby 00:09:29.250 --> 00:09:32.230 boys to be thrown into the Nile River. We see 00:09:32.230 --> 00:09:35.389 it even in the time of Jesus when King Herod 00:09:35.389 --> 00:09:42.830 issued an order for the elimination of boys and 00:09:42.830 --> 00:09:48.389 to kill children. We see this time and time again. 00:09:48.509 --> 00:09:53.559 Scripture is filled with... This repeated effort, 00:09:53.779 --> 00:09:59.720 threat of the enemy to kill and to destroy a 00:09:59.720 --> 00:10:04.500 life as young as possible. So when the father 00:10:04.500 --> 00:10:07.679 says from childhood, it tells us something about 00:10:07.679 --> 00:10:11.059 the way the enemy works, which is to destroy, 00:10:11.240 --> 00:10:17.179 to crush, to diminish a life as young as possible. 00:10:17.500 --> 00:10:22.000 So at some point in this. This young man's life, 00:10:22.399 --> 00:10:25.019 a door was open. We don't know. We don't want 00:10:25.019 --> 00:10:28.240 to speculate. But at some point, his life was 00:10:28.240 --> 00:10:32.419 affected. His life was attacked by the enemy. 00:10:33.039 --> 00:10:37.080 And this is why we need strongholds. We need 00:10:37.080 --> 00:10:39.399 churches. We need fathers and mothers and everybody 00:10:39.399 --> 00:10:43.179 to get in and to help protect our children. Amen? 00:10:53.769 --> 00:10:57.029 our children. Come on, somebody say amen to that. 00:10:58.090 --> 00:11:01.590 He wants to invade their life as young as possible 00:11:01.590 --> 00:11:06.090 to destroy them. So the father says his childhood. 00:11:06.330 --> 00:11:13.269 It also reveals the tenacity of the enemy. Satan 00:11:13.269 --> 00:11:18.330 is stubborn. He is stubborn. Once Satan establishes a foothold, 00:11:45.120 --> 00:11:49.259 he intends to stay there. He intends to set up 00:11:49.259 --> 00:11:52.679 camp. He intends to stay there for generations 00:11:52.679 --> 00:12:14.490 even, from generations On the door. He's not 00:12:14.490 --> 00:12:17.049 going to go because of you. You beg him to leave. 00:12:17.070 --> 00:12:21.929 Or because time has passed. No. He intends to 00:12:21.929 --> 00:13:06.639 stay there. So when the father says. you Jesus 00:13:06.639 --> 00:13:38.029 because First point today is that we've got to 00:13:38.029 --> 00:13:42.070 recognize the real battle is spiritual. Somebody 00:13:42.070 --> 00:13:46.610 say man today. The real battle. Someone say the 00:13:46.610 --> 00:13:52.629 real battle. Someone say it's spiritual. Notice 00:13:52.629 --> 00:14:16.490 the father said. He said. People may have misjudged 00:14:16.490 --> 00:14:22.750 the problem in this son's life as being purely 00:14:22.750 --> 00:14:29.269 behavioral. They may have misunderstood his suffering 00:14:29.269 --> 00:14:34.950 as being only a mental health crisis or a series 00:14:34.950 --> 00:14:42.200 of emotional outbursts. People... for just being, 00:14:42.320 --> 00:14:46.360 you know, something he's doing for attention 00:14:46.360 --> 00:14:54.480 even. Something that is purely physical or emotional. 00:14:55.159 --> 00:14:57.980 I said, man, you know, they really got to talk 00:14:57.980 --> 00:15:00.440 to their son. They got to get this thing under 00:15:00.440 --> 00:15:26.679 control. He understood that this was a spiritual 00:15:26.679 --> 00:15:31.720 attack. That while there may be outward symptoms, 00:15:31.940 --> 00:15:34.899 physical symptoms, emotional symptoms, mental 00:15:34.899 --> 00:18:53.460 symptoms, he's not denying it. It's not just 00:18:53.460 --> 00:18:56.900 another philosophy. It's a spiritual attack. 00:18:57.359 --> 00:19:02.980 It's the enemy trying to infiltrate the minds 00:19:02.980 --> 00:19:08.119 of society and young people and children.
