I believe 00:00:11.980 --> 00:00:16.339 I have a word from the Lord to encourage all 00:00:16.339 --> 00:00:19.859 of us today. And I think along the way we'll 00:00:19.859 --> 00:00:23.940 have some special emphasis for the mothers. It 00:00:23.940 --> 00:00:27.039 reads as this. As follows, Exodus 2 and verse 00:00:27.039 --> 00:00:30.559 1. And a man from the house of Levi went and 00:00:30.559 --> 00:00:35.079 took as wife a daughter of Levi. So the woman 00:00:35.079 --> 00:00:37.920 conceived and bore a son. And when she saw that 00:00:37.920 --> 00:00:42.560 he was a beautiful child, she hid him three months. 00:00:42.700 --> 00:00:44.799 Now, I think most mothers, when they see their 00:00:44.799 --> 00:00:46.219 babies for the first time, they think they're 00:00:46.219 --> 00:00:50.600 beautiful. You know, but. The emphasis here is 00:00:50.600 --> 00:00:53.079 more than just natural beauty. She didn't just 00:00:53.079 --> 00:00:56.340 look at him and say, oh, he's naturally beautiful. 00:00:56.439 --> 00:00:59.820 But the emphasis is there's a special emphasis 00:00:59.820 --> 00:01:03.820 on his destiny, his purpose. The child is beautiful. 00:01:03.979 --> 00:01:06.219 And she hid him for three months. But when she 00:01:06.219 --> 00:01:09.780 could no longer hide him, she took an ark of 00:01:09.780 --> 00:01:13.540 bulrushes for him, daubed it with asphalt and 00:01:13.540 --> 00:01:16.560 pitch, put the child in it, and laid it in the 00:01:16.560 --> 00:01:20.620 reeds by the river's bay. Verse four, and his 00:01:20.620 --> 00:01:24.700 sister stood far off to know what would be done 00:01:24.700 --> 00:01:27.340 to him. This story here in Exodus 00:02:06.790 --> 00:02:11.930 2 opens during a very dark time for the people 00:02:11.930 --> 00:02:17.770 of God. Israel is in bondage and Egypt is... 00:02:18.409 --> 00:02:23.389 filled with pressure, a lot of fear over the 00:02:23.389 --> 00:02:29.530 decree that Pharaoh had issued that all of the 00:02:29.530 --> 00:02:33.849 newborn baby boys would be exterminated, that 00:02:33.849 --> 00:02:39.030 they would be thrown into the Nile River. And 00:02:39.030 --> 00:02:42.250 this was not just an empty threat. This was a 00:02:42.250 --> 00:02:49.300 real decree that... went forth. And it was against 00:02:49.300 --> 00:02:53.180 this very dark and heavy backdrop that Moses 00:02:53.180 --> 00:02:59.659 is born. And the Bible says, so the woman conceived 00:02:59.659 --> 00:03:04.560 and bore a son. And what I think is interesting 00:03:04.560 --> 00:03:07.900 about this period is that even with this decree 00:03:07.900 --> 00:03:12.680 that went forth, that was just unimaginable. 00:03:13.500 --> 00:03:16.780 that the Hebrew women and families continue to 00:03:16.780 --> 00:03:19.159 grow their families. They continue to have children. 00:03:19.240 --> 00:03:23.240 They continue to move forward in their lives. 00:03:23.479 --> 00:03:27.080 But when we read that, that little verse, and 00:03:27.080 --> 00:03:29.759 the woman conceived and bore a son, it sounds 00:03:29.759 --> 00:03:33.919 so simple to us today in a world where every 00:03:33.919 --> 00:03:39.819 day there's gender reveals and families finding 00:03:39.819 --> 00:03:43.050 out that... There's going to be a new mom or 00:03:43.050 --> 00:03:45.770 a child's about to come. This happens all the 00:03:45.770 --> 00:03:48.189 time. It's just a part of daily life. But in 00:03:48.189 --> 00:03:51.310 that moment, there was so much pain and uncertainty 00:03:51.310 --> 00:03:54.930 that this was not just a simple expression, just 00:03:54.930 --> 00:03:57.550 a simple sentence. This child was born in a time, 00:03:57.590 --> 00:04:00.689 again, where baby boys were not being celebrated. 00:04:00.750 --> 00:04:05.280 They were being hunted down. And this was just 00:04:05.280 --> 00:04:09.939 an unimaginable scenario for any mother, any 00:04:09.939 --> 00:04:13.259 family to face, that he was born into a world 00:04:13.259 --> 00:04:16.060 that was already against him, a world that already 00:04:16.060 --> 00:04:18.639 wanted to have a, there was already a bounty 00:04:18.639 --> 00:04:22.839 on his head. It was already a death sentence 00:04:22.839 --> 00:04:27.779 that had been issued for Moses. And against that 00:04:27.779 --> 00:04:30.920 backdrop, against all these circumstances, This 00:04:30.920 --> 00:04:34.939 is where we begin to see the hand of God. Amen. 00:04:35.060 --> 00:04:39.339 This is where we begin to trace the fingerprints 00:04:39.339 --> 00:04:43.800 of God in the life, in this tender moment of 00:04:43.800 --> 00:04:46.139 Moses. The Bible says that when his mother saw 00:04:46.139 --> 00:04:49.319 that he was a beautiful child, she hid him for 00:04:49.319 --> 00:04:52.800 three months. And when we read about this story 00:04:52.800 --> 00:04:56.740 in the New Testament, the writer of Hebrews tells 00:04:56.740 --> 00:05:01.040 us in short order that Moses... was hidden not 00:05:01.040 --> 00:05:05.740 by fear, but by faith. His mother looked at him 00:05:05.740 --> 00:05:09.180 and saw that there was something significant 00:05:09.180 --> 00:05:13.000 about this baby boy's life. Again, not just a 00:05:13.000 --> 00:05:16.069 physical beauty like... Like every mother would 00:05:16.069 --> 00:05:18.370 look at their child and say, oh, you know, he's 00:05:18.370 --> 00:05:21.629 beautiful. He's perfect, right? Even if he has 00:05:21.629 --> 00:05:24.629 a little, you know, even if he's bald or she's 00:05:24.629 --> 00:05:29.490 bald or, you know, or has a birthmark. That baby 00:05:29.490 --> 00:05:32.410 is perfect in the eyes of mom. Can the moms out 00:05:32.410 --> 00:05:34.850 there say amen to that, right? They're just perfect. 00:05:35.329 --> 00:05:39.910 And no doubt that was the case, but it goes beyond 00:05:39.910 --> 00:05:44.319 that. The mom saw. something in her child that 00:05:44.319 --> 00:05:47.459 Pharaoh could not see that the world could not 00:05:47.459 --> 00:05:52.399 see she saw purpose she saw destiny she saw that 00:05:52.399 --> 00:05:56.540 in her hands was the life of an up -and -coming 00:05:56.540 --> 00:05:59.199 man of God somebody now she could not have known 00:05:59.199 --> 00:06:02.379 all the things that God was going to do through 00:06:02.379 --> 00:06:05.899 his life but she knew that she was not just holding 00:06:05.899 --> 00:06:10.810 a baby she was holding purpose in her in her 00:06:10.810 --> 00:06:13.889 hands. And so since today is Mother's Day, we 00:06:13.889 --> 00:06:16.750 want to along the way make emphasis and just 00:06:16.750 --> 00:06:19.579 thank God for the mothers because We honor the 00:06:19.579 --> 00:06:22.600 mothers who have helped cover and nurture their 00:06:22.600 --> 00:06:25.180 children, that see something in their children 00:06:25.180 --> 00:06:28.220 that maybe the rest of the world does not see, 00:06:28.300 --> 00:06:30.899 believe something about their children that maybe 00:06:30.899 --> 00:06:33.759 others may not believe in. And many, if not all 00:06:33.759 --> 00:06:36.860 of us, are here today, thank God, because of 00:06:36.860 --> 00:06:39.879 our mothers or because of our grandmothers or 00:06:39.879 --> 00:06:43.220 even maybe a spiritual mother figure in our life 00:06:43.220 --> 00:06:45.980 that saw something in us, saw purpose in us, 00:06:46.040 --> 00:06:49.540 saw value, potential. us before we could even 00:06:49.540 --> 00:06:53.600 see it in ourselves. Amen, somebody. Before we 00:06:53.600 --> 00:06:56.019 saw it in ourselves, thank God that our mothers 00:06:56.019 --> 00:06:59.220 saw that. And maybe that's why mothers and even 00:06:59.220 --> 00:07:02.279 fathers would have been so strict or hard on 00:07:02.279 --> 00:07:05.459 us or disciplined us the way they did or had 00:07:05.459 --> 00:07:09.220 words of counsel because they saw the potential. 00:07:09.480 --> 00:07:12.480 And whenever we went astray a little bit, because 00:07:12.480 --> 00:07:14.839 they saw that potential, they would try to guide 00:07:14.839 --> 00:07:17.939 us and correct us and give us a little tough 00:07:17.939 --> 00:07:21.519 love even so that we would one day see what they 00:07:21.519 --> 00:07:26.459 saw in us. And this mother today, her name was 00:07:26.459 --> 00:07:30.019 Jochebed, saw that in her baby, saw that in Moses. 00:07:30.180 --> 00:07:33.139 And so this message is not simply about the hands 00:07:33.139 --> 00:07:36.259 that held that baby, that held the basket, but 00:07:36.259 --> 00:07:38.779 it's also about the hidden hand behind the basket. 00:07:39.360 --> 00:07:42.279 Because greater than the hands of mom were the 00:07:42.279 --> 00:07:46.740 hands of God that saw something and instilled 00:07:46.740 --> 00:07:49.040 something in that child. There were many hands 00:07:49.040 --> 00:07:52.569 in this story. Many fingerprints in the early 00:07:52.569 --> 00:07:57.029 days of Moses' life. To start, how about the 00:07:57.029 --> 00:08:00.410 cruel hands of Pharaoh, who sought to kill and 00:08:00.410 --> 00:08:05.889 take the life of Moses, issuing that order to 00:08:05.889 --> 00:08:09.910 exterminate an entire generation. There was also 00:08:09.910 --> 00:08:13.850 the hurting hands of the mom, Jochebed, preparing 00:08:13.850 --> 00:08:17.970 that little basket, the little ark of bulrushes. 00:08:18.480 --> 00:08:24.000 to save her child from genocide. There was also 00:08:24.000 --> 00:08:27.439 the watchful hands of Moses' older sister, Miriam, 00:08:27.500 --> 00:08:31.759 waiting for the precise opportunity to step in, 00:08:31.939 --> 00:08:36.039 to seize the moment, as it were, when her little 00:08:36.039 --> 00:08:38.799 brother would be discovered in the hands of Pharaoh's 00:08:38.799 --> 00:08:42.000 daughter, stepping in at that right and exact 00:08:42.000 --> 00:08:45.120 moment to offer a solution. And I'll come back 00:08:45.120 --> 00:08:47.440 to that in a little bit, but... There was her 00:08:47.440 --> 00:08:50.179 little hands that were watching. And then, of 00:08:50.179 --> 00:08:52.899 course, there was the tender hands of Pharaoh's 00:08:52.899 --> 00:08:55.799 daughter herself who, upon seeing this child 00:08:55.799 --> 00:08:59.480 in the ark, drew him out of the water and had 00:08:59.480 --> 00:09:02.059 compassion. She could have turned him in. Say, 00:09:02.159 --> 00:09:03.840 hey, I found one. This little one almost got 00:09:03.840 --> 00:09:08.000 away. And instead of that, she embraced him. 00:09:08.399 --> 00:09:11.019 But behind every one of these hands that had 00:09:11.019 --> 00:09:16.120 a part or had a hand in Moses' early life, his 00:09:16.120 --> 00:09:20.720 birth, there was the hand of God, the unseen 00:09:20.720 --> 00:09:24.240 hand of God, the providential hand of God, the 00:09:24.240 --> 00:09:28.279 sovereign hand of God. And I want to today preach 00:09:28.279 --> 00:09:31.059 just for a moment, a few moments about the sovereign 00:09:31.059 --> 00:09:34.679 hand of God, that through every affair and through 00:09:34.679 --> 00:09:38.850 every scenario and every event of our life, Through 00:09:38.850 --> 00:09:41.389 the hands of humans, through the hands of moms 00:09:41.389 --> 00:09:43.490 and dads, through the hands of loved ones, through 00:09:43.490 --> 00:09:45.809 the hands of teachers and mentors, through the 00:09:45.809 --> 00:09:48.490 hands of all that may have a part in our life, 00:09:48.590 --> 00:09:52.490 there is the unseen hand of God that is orchestrating, 00:09:52.649 --> 00:09:58.610 amen, divinely positioning us for success, divinely 00:09:58.610 --> 00:10:01.309 positioning us to be. I want to let everyone 00:10:01.309 --> 00:10:04.590 know here today, you are not here by accident. 00:10:05.730 --> 00:10:10.750 Somebody say amen for that. You're not here just 00:10:10.750 --> 00:10:14.169 because. You're not here on accident. God had 00:10:14.169 --> 00:10:18.230 a plan. But God is in the 00:11:13.240 --> 00:11:15.639 story. He's in the story of Moses. He's in the 00:11:15.639 --> 00:11:17.720 story of our life. And the first thing I want 00:11:17.720 --> 00:11:20.299 to impart to you today, mothers and everybody 00:11:20.299 --> 00:11:24.220 listening today, is that the enemy cannot cancel 00:11:24.220 --> 00:11:28.860 your purpose. I need to say it again. The enemy, 00:11:29.039 --> 00:11:31.899 Satan himself, cannot cancel your purpose. Cancel 00:11:31.899 --> 00:11:36.200 your purpose. Moses was born under a very real 00:12:04.000 --> 00:12:07.000 threat. There's no getting around that. The decree 00:12:07.000 --> 00:12:10.200 was real. The danger was real. It wasn't make 00:12:10.200 --> 00:12:13.679 -believe. This was not a fictional story out 00:12:13.679 --> 00:12:17.179 of a storybook somewhere, out of a movie. No, 00:12:17.240 --> 00:12:20.639 this was real. The threat was real. And just 00:12:20.639 --> 00:12:22.980 like it was real then, the threat is also real 00:12:22.980 --> 00:12:26.039 now. We're living in a world, we're living in 00:12:26.039 --> 00:12:28.759 a time that is also blanketed with corruption 00:12:28.759 --> 00:12:31.919 and darkness and perversion, and Satan is running 00:12:31.919 --> 00:12:35.220 rampant to and fro, seeking whom he may devour 00:12:35.220 --> 00:12:39.200 and what life he can take on his own. But against 00:12:39.200 --> 00:12:42.840 that same backdrop, we see that there is nothing 00:12:42.840 --> 00:12:47.080 the devil can do to rob us or to cheat us when 00:12:47.080 --> 00:12:49.899 we are in the hands of God. The Bible tells us 00:12:49.899 --> 00:12:54.009 in Hebrews 11, 23, that his parents, including 00:12:54.009 --> 00:12:57.789 mom, were not afraid of the king's commands. 00:12:58.110 --> 00:13:02.350 I find that to be so interesting that against 00:13:02.350 --> 00:13:06.570 that backdrop, they were not afraid. And he will 00:17:09.829 --> 00:17:13.809 devise means to bring about his purpose in our 00:17:13.809 --> 00:17:20.349 life. Satan cannot cancel God's purpose in your 00:17:20.349 --> 00:17:22.309 life. I come to declare that. I've also come 00:17:22.309 --> 00:17:25.869 to declare. And in addition to that, let's learn 00:17:25.869 --> 00:17:29.289 from Jochebed. Let's learn from this mom and 00:17:29.289 --> 00:17:33.690 how she was not willing to bow down.
