But I thought it would be fitting 00:02:16.569 --> 00:02:21.569 to give you. an idea of what God is wanting to 00:02:21.569 --> 00:02:23.550 do in in our lives and I feel really comfortable 00:02:23.550 --> 00:02:25.729 right now I might preach a whole hour who knows 00:02:25.729 --> 00:02:31.229 the scene before us is a vibrant one in scripture 00:02:31.229 --> 00:02:35.030 and it's very familiar because what we see is 00:02:35.030 --> 00:02:39.930 a very important transition in Israel's history 00:02:39.930 --> 00:02:44.289 as they are now going from tent dwellers to land 00:02:44.289 --> 00:02:48.830 owners from Vagabonds to heirs of divine promise. 00:02:49.030 --> 00:02:52.969 This is a critical point in the journey of God's 00:02:52.969 --> 00:02:56.389 people. Forty years spent in the desert, circling 00:02:56.389 --> 00:03:00.909 and going through the motions. And during that 00:03:00.909 --> 00:03:02.830 period of time, of course, they experienced many 00:03:02.830 --> 00:03:06.909 things we read about. In Deuteronomy and Exodus, 00:03:07.129 --> 00:03:10.270 we read about these things. But during that period 00:03:10.270 --> 00:03:13.030 of time, a whole generation disqualified themselves 00:03:13.030 --> 00:03:16.710 from being able to enter in. And so once that 00:03:16.710 --> 00:03:20.229 generation passed, a new generation arose. It 00:03:20.229 --> 00:03:25.030 was Joshua's generation. And we see a very... 00:03:25.949 --> 00:03:28.770 prominent transition in leadership, prominent 00:03:28.770 --> 00:03:32.250 transition in the mindset of God's people as 00:03:32.250 --> 00:03:35.530 they are preparing to step into new territory. 00:03:35.770 --> 00:03:39.729 A generation that had known nothing but desert 00:03:39.729 --> 00:03:43.069 wandering and makeshift living is about to step 00:03:43.069 --> 00:03:46.669 into something that is permanent, something that 00:03:46.669 --> 00:03:50.189 is lasting, something that is sustainable. And 00:03:50.189 --> 00:03:53.449 adding to this moment was the fact that Moses, 00:03:53.610 --> 00:03:58.169 the towering leader of Israel's past, is now 00:03:58.169 --> 00:04:02.689 gone. That familiar voice that they were so accustomed 00:04:02.689 --> 00:04:07.990 to hearing on a day -to -day basis. legendary 00:04:07.990 --> 00:04:12.210 figure in Israel's history, the one who called 00:04:12.210 --> 00:04:14.990 plagues down from heaven, the one who parted 00:04:14.990 --> 00:04:17.230 the Red Sea. We know that it was God that worked 00:04:17.230 --> 00:04:20.069 through him. Nevertheless, he was the central 00:04:20.069 --> 00:04:23.629 figure that led God's people, and so he was very 00:04:23.629 --> 00:04:28.199 prominent, very important to the nation of Israel 00:04:28.199 --> 00:04:31.060 in that time. In fact, his shoes were so big, 00:04:31.079 --> 00:04:33.680 I don't think anybody could have stepped into 00:04:33.680 --> 00:04:36.160 them. And to that end, they were struggling to 00:04:36.160 --> 00:04:39.680 accept what was taking place before them. They 00:04:39.680 --> 00:04:42.759 were struggling. They were in a state of bewilderment. 00:04:42.759 --> 00:04:48.680 They were stunned and frozen in transition, unable 00:04:48.680 --> 00:04:52.360 to take that next step. struggling to accept 00:04:52.360 --> 00:04:56.480 the idea of moving forward without their trusted 00:04:56.480 --> 00:05:00.279 leader. And perhaps they just could not imagine 00:05:00.279 --> 00:05:04.279 what a future would look like without Moses. 00:05:04.680 --> 00:05:07.819 Maybe they couldn't fathom what life would be 00:05:07.819 --> 00:05:11.620 like without him. 40 years plus with this man 00:05:11.620 --> 00:05:15.660 of God at the helm, they couldn't figure out 00:05:15.660 --> 00:05:19.839 how tomorrow would look like without this leader. 00:05:20.439 --> 00:05:23.600 guiding the way. And they were left with many 00:05:23.600 --> 00:05:27.519 doubts and many questions about this new generation 00:05:27.519 --> 00:05:30.860 that was rising up, particularly Joshua. Even 00:05:30.860 --> 00:05:35.819 though he had learned and grown up under the 00:05:35.819 --> 00:05:39.379 mentorship of Moses, he was still new. He was 00:05:39.379 --> 00:05:43.759 untested in many ways. And so for that reason, 00:05:43.860 --> 00:05:47.149 and for many others, they got stuck. at a very 00:05:47.149 --> 00:05:50.149 familiar place, at a place where their ancestors 00:05:50.149 --> 00:05:54.310 had come before, right there on the edge of the 00:05:54.310 --> 00:05:57.850 promised land, right there near water's edge 00:05:57.850 --> 00:06:01.209 of that Jordan, and they got stuck there. And 00:06:01.209 --> 00:06:04.230 it seems as if, though, they forgot what this 00:06:04.230 --> 00:06:07.750 was all about. They forgot that God didn't call 00:06:07.750 --> 00:06:10.430 them just to go on a journey, but he called them 00:06:10.430 --> 00:06:12.850 to arrive. Can I tell you today, God called you 00:06:12.850 --> 00:06:17.009 to arrive. God didn't call us just to go in circles 00:06:17.009 --> 00:06:20.389 and just go in cycles and just walk and walk 00:06:20.389 --> 00:06:23.610 and walk and never arrive. God, he has called 00:06:23.610 --> 00:06:26.529 all of us to arrive. There is a destination. 00:06:26.930 --> 00:06:29.290 And I know we say things like, well, it's not 00:06:29.290 --> 00:06:31.250 about the journey or not about the destination, 00:06:31.490 --> 00:06:33.910 right? It's about the journey. Well, I come to 00:06:33.910 --> 00:06:35.649 tell you, it's not just about the journey. It's 00:06:35.649 --> 00:06:38.970 about the destination. We got to get there. They were stuck. It's still 00:07:31.870 --> 00:07:35.370 stressing you out. You're long past that season 00:07:35.370 --> 00:07:38.110 or that relationship or that phase of your life, 00:07:38.209 --> 00:07:41.709 but somehow it's still influencing the way you 00:07:41.709 --> 00:07:44.410 make decisions. It's still influencing the way 00:07:44.410 --> 00:07:46.730 you love and the way you let people in. It's 00:07:46.730 --> 00:07:49.970 still influencing how you go about your daily 00:07:49.970 --> 00:07:53.250 life, how you pray and how you worship and how 00:07:53.250 --> 00:07:55.500 you do the things. that you're supposed to do, 00:07:55.579 --> 00:07:57.560 it's still influencing. You're just kind of stuck. 00:07:57.800 --> 00:08:00.300 And sometimes we get to those places and we don't 00:08:00.300 --> 00:08:02.300 even know why we're stuck anymore. We don't know 00:08:02.300 --> 00:08:05.199 why we haven't grown to the next level, why we 00:08:05.199 --> 00:08:09.199 haven't seen the fruition of God's promises in 00:08:09.199 --> 00:08:11.860 our life. We 00:08:37.759 --> 00:08:41.559 know already that there is this next level that 00:08:41.559 --> 00:08:45.259 we need to take. But for reasons beyond our control 00:08:45.259 --> 00:08:48.980 at times or for surroundings, we just get stuck. 00:08:49.120 --> 00:08:51.519 I don't know if anybody has ever felt like that 00:08:51.519 --> 00:08:55.169 in your life. This is where Israel was. This 00:08:55.169 --> 00:08:57.669 is where they were. And that's why before God 00:08:57.669 --> 00:09:00.789 told Joshua what to do next, he first had to 00:09:00.789 --> 00:09:04.509 declare something that was so obvious to everybody. 00:09:05.370 --> 00:09:11.970 He says, Moses is dead. Moses is dead. And this 00:09:11.970 --> 00:09:15.529 is like one of those things where when you hear 00:09:15.529 --> 00:09:18.899 it, it's nothing new, everybody. Everybody knew 00:09:18.899 --> 00:09:20.860 that Moses was dead. But you know, sometimes 00:09:20.860 --> 00:09:23.519 we don't need like a new and lofty revelation. 00:09:23.600 --> 00:09:26.120 Sometimes we just need to be reminded of something 00:09:26.120 --> 00:09:30.059 that is factual. Because you 00:11:52.009 --> 00:11:55.610 don't want to let go. That's not what the song 00:11:55.610 --> 00:11:57.529 says. And that's not what scripture teaches us. 00:11:57.769 --> 00:12:01.830 God's announcement. is that Moses is dead. And 00:12:01.830 --> 00:12:04.669 it was a strong declaration that yesterday is 00:12:04.669 --> 00:12:08.769 over. As great as Moses was, and we're not putting 00:12:08.769 --> 00:12:11.850 him down. We're not trying to minimize or diminish 00:12:11.850 --> 00:12:16.190 who Moses was and what he contributed. No. He 00:12:16.190 --> 00:12:18.529 was a great man. But the fact of the matter is, 00:12:18.610 --> 00:12:22.289 God has moved on. And where are we stuck where 00:12:22.289 --> 00:12:26.169 God has moved on? It's like those that showed 00:12:26.169 --> 00:12:29.059 up to the empty tomb. with their spices and to 00:12:29.059 --> 00:12:31.299 worship, and the angel announced to them, he's 00:12:31.299 --> 00:12:34.539 moved on. Sometimes we show up to places that 00:12:34.539 --> 00:12:37.929 God has already moved on from. He's already on 00:12:37.929 --> 00:12:39.889 to the next thing. He's already on to the next 00:12:39.889 --> 00:12:42.649 person. He's already on to the next area of ministry 00:12:42.649 --> 00:12:45.450 that he wants to use you in. So as great as Moses 00:12:45.450 --> 00:12:48.970 was, he was gone and it was over. And that era 00:12:48.970 --> 00:12:51.690 was marked, that era of Moses. And I feel bad 00:12:51.690 --> 00:12:54.549 for him because he himself never got to step 00:12:54.549 --> 00:12:57.269 in. He only sought from a distance. God allowed 00:12:57.269 --> 00:12:59.909 him to see it with his eyes, but he never got 00:12:59.909 --> 00:13:02.669 to step into the land that was promised to his 00:13:02.669 --> 00:13:05.850 forefathers because he led a group of people 00:13:05.850 --> 00:13:08.549 that for the most part most part they were spiritually 00:13:08.549 --> 00:13:12.190 sick. They were disobedient and rebellious and 00:13:12.190 --> 00:13:17.049 criticizing and they were ungrateful and they 00:13:17.049 --> 00:13:20.549 were full of anger and then mostly they were 00:13:20.549 --> 00:13:24.990 unbelieving for what God can do despite the miracles 00:13:24.990 --> 00:13:27.789 that God had done through them, bringing them 00:13:27.789 --> 00:13:31.049 through the Red Sea and feeding them manna from 00:13:31.049 --> 00:13:34.230 heaven, leading them with a pillar of fire by 00:13:34.230 --> 00:13:37.039 night and a cloud by day. all the miracles God 00:13:37.039 --> 00:13:40.759 did, and still they were unbelieving. And these 00:13:40.759 --> 00:13:43.899 are attitudes of the old nature. These are attitudes 00:13:43.899 --> 00:13:47.080 of the flesh. These are attitudes of who you 00:13:47.080 --> 00:13:50.600 used to be. But God is saying to us today that 00:13:50.600 --> 00:13:56.279 season is over. Somebody say it's over. Like 00:13:56.279 --> 00:13:58.639 Israel, God did not bring you to the edge of 00:13:58.639 --> 00:14:01.559 promise just so that you can carry your old nature, 00:14:01.620 --> 00:14:04.639 your old habits. You're all thinking into a new 00:14:04.639 --> 00:14:07.980 season. God didn't bring you this far so that 00:14:07.980 --> 00:14:11.980 you can carry that baggage into the next season. 00:14:13.259 --> 00:14:16.179 Amen. Sometimes when you go places, you got to 00:14:16.179 --> 00:14:22.559 get new things. One time I went on a trip and 00:14:22.559 --> 00:14:26.740 they lost my baggage. Because I bought 00:14:32.299 --> 00:14:38.860 a whole new wardrobe. Praise be to God. All of it 00:15:24.830 --> 00:15:27.950 has got to be let go or else they cannot step 00:15:27.950 --> 00:15:30.789 into where God is calling them to. The Bible 00:15:30.789 --> 00:15:35.490 says this in 2 Corinthians 5 and 17. If anyone 00:15:35.490 --> 00:15:42.090 is in Christ, he is a new creation. All things 00:15:42.090 --> 00:15:45.470 have passed away. Behold, all things. Someone 00:15:45.470 --> 00:15:49.940 say all things. All things have become new. Is there anybody here today that's been 00:16:41.860 --> 00:16:45.460 born again of the water and of the spirit?
