You could mistake the fact that 00:03:46.490 --> 00:03:50.889 things are moving or that there is some shifting 00:03:50.889 --> 00:03:54.550 or some changes, but yet not actually be making 00:03:54.550 --> 00:03:58.539 progress. And this is exactly where the children 00:03:58.539 --> 00:04:02.139 of Israel found themselves in our text today. 00:04:02.300 --> 00:04:05.819 They were moving, but they were not advancing. 00:04:06.219 --> 00:04:09.000 They were not going anywhere. Circling in the 00:04:09.000 --> 00:04:13.699 desert for a long time, they got used to the 00:04:13.699 --> 00:04:18.430 same scenery. walking the same paths and repeating 00:04:18.430 --> 00:04:23.009 the same cycle. And they were in a precarious 00:04:23.009 --> 00:04:26.730 place because on the one hand, they were no longer 00:04:26.730 --> 00:04:30.750 slaves in Egypt, right? Because God had delivered 00:04:30.750 --> 00:04:34.949 them out of Egyptian oppression and bondage. 00:04:34.990 --> 00:04:38.649 So on the one hand, they were no longer brickmakers 00:04:38.649 --> 00:04:43.449 and under the slavery of Egyptian rule. But on 00:04:43.449 --> 00:04:47.829 the other hand, they were still not living in 00:04:47.829 --> 00:04:52.649 their promised land. And again, this is a dilemma. 00:04:52.689 --> 00:04:56.850 This is a difficult place to be in, to be fully 00:04:56.850 --> 00:05:02.910 out but not fully in. To be in that kind of a 00:05:02.910 --> 00:05:07.250 middle place. And I believe that as God was speaking 00:05:07.250 --> 00:05:10.490 to me that there are many believers who find 00:05:10.490 --> 00:05:14.250 themselves in that exact place spiritually speaking. 00:05:14.470 --> 00:05:18.490 They are delivered but not yet developed. They 00:05:18.490 --> 00:05:22.889 are saved. Perhaps their sins have been washed 00:05:22.889 --> 00:05:26.449 away through the water, just like the children 00:05:26.449 --> 00:05:30.949 of Israel came through the Red Sea, which typifies 00:05:30.949 --> 00:05:33.990 baptism. So they have been delivered from their 00:05:33.990 --> 00:05:36.829 sins, and that past has been wiped away, but 00:05:36.829 --> 00:05:41.129 they're still not yet settled into the land of 00:05:41.129 --> 00:05:44.870 milk and honey. They have not yet tasted of the 00:05:44.870 --> 00:05:48.149 goodness of the land that God has. promised to 00:05:48.149 --> 00:05:52.589 them, just like he did to Abraham and his seed. 00:05:52.870 --> 00:05:57.529 But this is where God had looked upon the plight 00:05:57.529 --> 00:06:01.569 of his people and intervened. And he interrupted 00:06:01.569 --> 00:06:05.949 their cycle that they were in with one very simple 00:06:05.949 --> 00:06:10.709 command. First, he locates them, number one. 00:06:10.790 --> 00:06:15.490 He diagnoses the issue. He says, you have... 00:06:16.569 --> 00:06:20.829 this mountain long enough. So first, before God 00:06:20.829 --> 00:06:23.069 tells you where he wants you to go, how many 00:06:23.069 --> 00:06:25.339 of you know he'll tell you where you are? Somebody 00:06:25.339 --> 00:06:28.259 say amen. That's why God, when he wanted to change 00:06:28.259 --> 00:06:31.560 Adam's life, he said, Adam, where are you? God 00:06:31.560 --> 00:06:33.959 will always locate you first. The Holy Ghost 00:06:33.959 --> 00:06:36.939 will always pinpoint, it'll pin drop exactly 00:06:36.939 --> 00:06:40.740 what your situation is, where you are in the 00:06:40.740 --> 00:06:43.759 kingdom or in the spirit or the season of your 00:06:43.759 --> 00:06:47.120 life. And so he tells them, you have skirted 00:06:47.120 --> 00:06:50.879 this mountain long enough. In other words, you 00:06:50.879 --> 00:06:55.279 have been circling the same mountain experienced 00:06:55.279 --> 00:06:59.399 the same mountain long enough. I've seen what 00:06:59.399 --> 00:07:02.339 you've been doing and I've kind of noticed that 00:07:02.339 --> 00:07:05.500 you have a pattern now. You've got this pattern 00:07:05.500 --> 00:07:08.500 and I don't even, I think you don't even, I know 00:07:08.500 --> 00:07:11.060 you don't even realize that you're in a pattern, 00:07:11.180 --> 00:07:13.939 that you're in a cycle because you're moving. 00:07:14.019 --> 00:07:18.500 But you have mistaken your motion for progress. 00:07:18.600 --> 00:07:21.540 You have mistaken your routine for obedience. 00:07:21.759 --> 00:07:25.220 You've mistaken your pattern. for spiritual growth 00:07:25.220 --> 00:07:29.300 and for development. If you like that 00:07:45.560 --> 00:07:47.420 word northward better, you can use that too. 00:07:47.560 --> 00:07:50.500 But it means the same, turn north. And as I read 00:07:50.500 --> 00:07:53.279 that, I felt the Holy Ghost speak to me, and 00:07:53.279 --> 00:07:56.240 I hear the Holy Ghost here today saying the same 00:07:56.240 --> 00:07:59.180 thing to each and every one of us this afternoon, 00:07:59.439 --> 00:08:01.680 saying the same thing to me, saying the same 00:08:01.680 --> 00:08:04.600 thing to my family, to this church, and that 00:08:04.600 --> 00:08:08.699 is turn north. It is not the will of God that 00:08:08.699 --> 00:08:11.709 we... skirt the mountain, so to speak. It's not 00:08:11.709 --> 00:08:14.949 the will of God that we recycle our religious 00:08:14.949 --> 00:08:17.990 experiences, that we go through the motions, 00:08:18.110 --> 00:08:22.029 or that we do church because we know how to do 00:08:22.029 --> 00:08:23.810 church. You know, some of us, we just know how 00:08:23.810 --> 00:08:27.930 to do church. We can do church with the best 00:08:27.930 --> 00:08:31.389 of them because it is so ingrained in who we 00:08:31.389 --> 00:08:34.769 are. It comes as like second nature to us. But 00:08:34.769 --> 00:08:37.129 we've got to be careful today, church, and I 00:08:37.129 --> 00:08:39.080 hope you hear what I've got to say. say today, 00:08:39.179 --> 00:08:43.440 that we don't stay in the rut of just doing church 00:08:43.440 --> 00:08:47.860 or that we just don't repeat the same experiences, 00:08:48.019 --> 00:08:50.700 the same lessons that we've learned already, 00:08:50.899 --> 00:08:54.720 the same elementary principles of doctrine, which 00:08:54.720 --> 00:08:59.379 are good. But even the Apostle Paul said, leaving 00:08:59.379 --> 00:09:03.559 behind the principal elements of doctrine, let 00:09:03.559 --> 00:09:06.940 us go on to perfection. Not that we don't need 00:09:06.940 --> 00:09:10.200 our doctrine. Always will. But let us not keep 00:09:10.200 --> 00:09:13.980 circling around the same things and not advancing. 00:09:14.120 --> 00:09:17.740 Because at the end of the day, amen, we've got 00:09:17.740 --> 00:09:21.519 a promise in God that must be possessed. Somebody 00:09:21.519 --> 00:09:25.340 give God some praise today. Hallelujah. How many 00:09:25.340 --> 00:09:27.980 of you got a promise from the Lord? Amen. And 00:09:33.100 --> 00:09:35.679 that's why when you flip a few chapters later 00:09:35.679 --> 00:09:40.639 in Deuteronomy. and verse 23, Moses says to the 00:09:40.639 --> 00:09:44.980 people, the Lord brought us out so that he could 00:09:44.980 --> 00:09:48.659 bring us in. So God didn't just bring us out 00:09:48.659 --> 00:09:51.659 of Egypt so that we can be desert dwellers. God 00:09:51.659 --> 00:09:53.980 didn't bring us out of Egypt just so that we 00:09:53.980 --> 00:09:56.600 could celebrate our freedom for the rest of our 00:09:56.600 --> 00:09:59.879 life, but never possess the fruit of the land, 00:09:59.899 --> 00:10:03.120 no. God Brought us out of all of that. Brought 00:10:03.120 --> 00:10:06.019 us out of the world. Brought us out of sin. Brought 00:10:06.019 --> 00:10:08.840 us out of dead men's tradition. Why? So that 00:10:08.840 --> 00:10:12.720 he could bring us in. It is God's will that we 00:10:12.720 --> 00:10:16.019 step into the fullness of his spirit. I don't want to ever get in a cycle 00:10:42.399 --> 00:10:45.539 where all I am doing is talking about what God 00:10:45.539 --> 00:10:48.480 did and where I've been and not advance further 00:10:48.480 --> 00:10:51.220 into his kingdom. So the question before us here 00:10:51.220 --> 00:10:54.139 today, church, is if we're going to turn north, 00:10:54.960 --> 00:10:58.639 Where is north? Where is north in the spirit? 00:10:58.820 --> 00:11:02.000 And how do we get there? And if we ask these 00:11:02.000 --> 00:11:04.960 questions, we need to look no further than the 00:11:04.960 --> 00:11:08.059 example before us here in Deuteronomy chapter 00:11:08.059 --> 00:11:11.600 2 with the people of Israel. And we first must 00:11:11.600 --> 00:11:13.779 begin. There are several stages that I'd like 00:11:13.779 --> 00:11:18.240 to dissect for us today as we look at the children 00:11:18.240 --> 00:11:21.580 of Israel, the people of God. And the first thing 00:11:21.580 --> 00:11:25.419 we must begin to deal with is this mountain that 00:11:25.419 --> 00:11:29.259 they were circling in the desert. They were circling 00:11:29.259 --> 00:11:32.620 a mountain. and the mountain was known as Mount 00:11:32.620 --> 00:11:37.080 Seir. Now, this particular mountain is noteworthy 00:11:37.080 --> 00:11:41.919 because it was home to the descendants of Esau. 00:11:42.200 --> 00:11:45.379 Scripture tells us, Bible says that this is where 00:11:45.379 --> 00:11:48.700 the people or the lineages, the descendants of 00:11:48.700 --> 00:11:51.980 Esau lived. Now, if you know a little bit about 00:11:51.980 --> 00:11:56.519 Esau in Bible history, Esau was not a spiritual 00:11:56.519 --> 00:12:00.120 man. Amen. He was not a spiritual man. In fact, 00:12:00.120 --> 00:12:04.019 he was a carnal man. A carnal man who sold his 00:12:04.019 --> 00:12:08.820 inheritance or his birthright for a bowl of soup. 00:12:09.059 --> 00:12:12.940 I don't know how good that soup smelled, but 00:12:12.940 --> 00:12:16.960 whatever it was, he became entrapped by that. 00:12:17.039 --> 00:12:22.419 He became bedazzled. He ensnared by the attraction, 00:12:22.679 --> 00:12:25.799 by the scent of that soup. His hunger and the 00:12:25.799 --> 00:12:30.070 flesh got the best of him. And so he sold an 00:12:30.070 --> 00:12:35.330 eternal birthright for a temporary fix that he 00:12:35.330 --> 00:12:37.970 got in his flesh. And so the Israelites were 00:12:37.970 --> 00:12:42.769 circling Esau's mountain. This was his mountain. 00:12:42.889 --> 00:12:46.889 This was where his people lived. And so if I 00:12:46.889 --> 00:12:49.169 could put it to you this way, in a spiritual 00:12:49.169 --> 00:12:52.389 sense, the people of God were not just circling 00:12:52.389 --> 00:12:55.769 any mountain. They were circling a carnal mountain. 00:12:56.700 --> 00:12:59.960 Amen. They were circling a fleshly mountain. 00:13:00.159 --> 00:13:04.080 They were circling Esau's mountain. I mean, I 00:13:04.080 --> 00:13:05.919 don't think the Bible makes any mistakes. There 00:13:05.919 --> 00:13:09.200 is a, there is a lesson here. There is a point 00:13:09.200 --> 00:13:13.519 to this. And this mountain of flesh, this carnal 00:13:13.519 --> 00:13:17.519 mountain, a mountain who gets its identity from 00:13:17.519 --> 00:13:22.100 a man who was living in the carnal mind. A man 00:13:22.100 --> 00:13:25.100 who was not a true man of the spirit. And they 00:13:25.100 --> 00:13:28.000 were circling. says something about the first 00:13:28.000 --> 00:13:31.440 thing that we must do if we are to move north 00:13:31.440 --> 00:13:35.559 and get beyond this mountain of flesh that causes 00:13:35.559 --> 00:13:40.519 nothing but cycles of regret and cycles of sin 00:13:40.519 --> 00:13:44.799 and comfort and empty religion in our lives. 00:13:44.940 --> 00:13:47.220 So the first thing we need to do if we're going 00:13:47.220 --> 00:13:51.320 to move spiritually north is that we need to 00:13:51.320 --> 00:13:54.620 know that north, someone say north. Amen. Come 00:13:54.620 --> 00:13:59.960 on, say north. North is beyond the flesh. North 00:13:59.960 --> 00:14:03.460 is beyond the flesh. And the scripture reads 00:14:03.460 --> 00:14:08.139 for us in verses 4 and 5, it says, and command 00:14:08.139 --> 00:14:12.379 the people. Command the people saying that you 00:14:12.379 --> 00:14:16.100 are about to pass through the territory of your 00:14:16.100 --> 00:14:19.019 brethren, the descendants of Esau, the carnal 00:14:19.019 --> 00:14:23.360 man, who live in Sir, and they will be afraid 00:14:23.360 --> 00:14:27.440 of you. Therefore, watch yourselves carefully. 00:14:27.820 --> 00:14:30.840 In other words, be vigilant about where you're 00:14:30.840 --> 00:14:33.419 about to go into the territory that you're about 00:14:33.419 --> 00:14:36.159 to enter. You've got to be sober -minded and 00:14:36.159 --> 00:14:39.059 vigilant about this mountain. And then verse 00:14:39.059 --> 00:14:44.870 5, he adds, do not meddle with them. So God tells 00:14:44.870 --> 00:14:48.490 Israel, you are to pass through, if you're going 00:14:48.490 --> 00:14:51.490 to move north to the promised land, this mountain 00:14:51.490 --> 00:14:55.409 beyond the flesh. And he says, you got to pass 00:14:55.409 --> 00:14:58.529 through this mountain. You got to go through 00:14:58.529 --> 00:15:03.649 this carnal mountain of Esau, this place that 00:15:03.649 --> 00:15:08.009 represents flesh and carnality. But not only 00:15:08.009 --> 00:15:12.429 pass through them, but I like the added admonition, 00:15:12.529 --> 00:15:16.230 which is, do not meddle. Someone say, don't meddle. 00:15:16.470 --> 00:15:20.690 He said, don't meddle with these people. Mind 00:15:20.690 --> 00:15:23.889 your own business and just walk right through 00:15:23.889 --> 00:15:28.289 them. That word there, meddle, is important for 00:15:28.289 --> 00:15:33.470 us today. It is important to add to your mind, 00:15:33.570 --> 00:15:35.750 your understanding, your spiritual vocabulary. 00:15:35.809 --> 00:15:41.789 Why? Because to meddle is to contend or to provoke. 00:15:42.210 --> 00:15:46.389 God was telling his people, do not meddle. provoke 00:15:46.389 --> 00:15:51.129 the flesh. Do not meddle with it. Do not bargain 00:15:51.129 --> 00:15:55.470 with Esau. Don't get entangled with these people. 00:15:55.649 --> 00:15:58.850 They have nothing to offer you. Don't negotiate 00:15:58.850 --> 00:16:02.710 with them and certainly don't fight with them 00:16:02.710 --> 00:16:06.230 on their turf because you'll be fighting on their 00:16:06.230 --> 00:16:09.779 terms and it's a battle that you're not going 00:16:09.779 --> 00:16:13.059 to win. And as I read these words, I cannot overlook 00:16:17.940 --> 00:16:21.419 the fact that in order for us as the people of 00:16:21.419 --> 00:16:25.139 God in this generation to move north in the Spirit 00:16:25.139 --> 00:16:28.840 into the blessed promises of God for our lives, 00:16:29.000 --> 00:16:33.220 we have got to apply this same principle to our 00:16:33.220 --> 00:16:38.320 lives and do everything we can to not get in 00:16:38.320 --> 00:16:42.029 the A meddling situation with our flesh. Because 00:16:42.029 --> 00:16:45.970 our flesh is something that is constantly trying 00:16:45.970 --> 00:16:50.070 to contend with us. The Bible says these words 00:16:50.070 --> 00:16:53.710 in Romans 8 -7. Can I preach my heart out today? 00:16:53.789 --> 00:16:56.190 Somebody say go ahead. Hallelujah. The Bible 00:16:56.190 --> 00:17:00.470 says in Romans 8 -7 that the carnal mind is enmity 00:17:00.470 --> 00:17:05.730 against God. Amen. Carnality, I want you to know, 00:17:05.769 --> 00:17:27.119 is not just the love. Can I tell you like it 00:17:27.119 --> 00:17:30.980 is today? Carnality is not simply doing dirty 00:17:30.980 --> 00:17:35.299 things or having a dirty mind, so to speak. But 00:17:35.299 --> 00:17:39.440 carnality is... moving and operating in any other 00:17:39.440 --> 00:17:42.579 spirit except for the spirit of God. It could 00:17:42.579 --> 00:17:45.339 be the spirit of humanity. It could be the spirit 00:17:45.339 --> 00:17:47.720 of the world. It could be the spirit of somebody 00:17:47.720 --> 00:17:51.539 else except for the spirit of God. It not only 00:17:51.539 --> 00:17:54.299 includes the lust of the flesh, but it includes 00:17:54.299 --> 00:17:59.220 the lust of the eye and the pride of life. And 00:17:59.220 --> 00:18:01.779 for somebody here today, your biggest problem 00:18:01.779 --> 00:18:05.039 may not be the lust of the flesh and controlling 00:18:05.039 --> 00:18:10.039 impulses. of your fleshly desires. But your biggest 00:18:10.039 --> 00:18:13.480 problem might be the pride of your life. It might 00:18:13.480 --> 00:18:16.319 be the lust of the eyes. It might be greed. It 00:18:16.319 --> 00:18:20.079 might be jealousy and covetousness. It might 00:18:20.079 --> 00:18:24.019 be envy. Hallelujah. Or it might be the pride 00:18:24.019 --> 00:18:28.299 of life. What the Bible calls a howty look or 00:18:28.299 --> 00:18:32.160 an arrogant look or a proud heart. God was doing and was struggling 00:26:46.329 --> 00:26:49.809 to let go of certain things. And so for that 00:26:49.809 --> 00:26:54.009 reason, God said, you will not be allowed. This is the dichotomy that 00:27:55.920 --> 00:27:59.240 many believers fail to understand and often miss 00:27:59.240 --> 00:28:02.180 in their life. They think that in order for there 00:28:02.180 --> 00:28:04.839 to be a clean break into where God is calling 00:28:04.839 --> 00:28:08.380 me everything must make complete sense in what's 00:28:08.380 --> 00:28:15.250 going on in my life right now. is going to make 00:28:15.250 --> 00:28:18.130 the journey with them.
