But today, we're going to look even 00:06:23.970 --> 00:06:27.529 further beyond to that place as we were seeing 00:06:27.529 --> 00:06:30.170 a few moments ago where the streets are paved 00:06:30.170 --> 00:06:34.529 with gold and there are no more tears or sorrow. 00:06:34.550 --> 00:06:39.389 We're looking today at heaven, our eternal home 00:06:39.389 --> 00:06:45.290 with Jesus Christ. Now, before we look at what's 00:06:45.290 --> 00:06:48.040 waiting for us, In this place called heaven, 00:06:48.160 --> 00:06:50.220 I think it's important to first at least clarify 00:06:50.220 --> 00:06:55.180 what the Bible means when we talk about heaven. 00:06:56.399 --> 00:07:00.480 In the Bible, there are at least three types 00:07:00.480 --> 00:07:02.279 of heavens that are mentioned. The Bible mentions 00:07:02.279 --> 00:07:06.019 three heavens, and you'll see this word used 00:07:06.019 --> 00:07:09.939 time and again, but it doesn't always mean what 00:07:09.939 --> 00:07:13.100 we think it means. The first heaven, or there 00:07:13.100 --> 00:07:14.680 are three levels of heavens. The first heaven 00:07:14.680 --> 00:07:19.139 is the sky. It is the atmosphere above us where 00:07:19.139 --> 00:07:22.079 the birds are flying. The second heaven is outer 00:07:22.079 --> 00:07:28.000 space. The moon, the sun, the planets, the stars, 00:07:28.160 --> 00:07:32.519 all the galaxies, that would be considered the 00:07:32.519 --> 00:07:38.139 second heaven. The third heaven is the dwelling 00:07:38.139 --> 00:07:43.399 place of God. This is what Scripture refers to 00:07:43.399 --> 00:07:47.980 as... the heaven of heavens, as Moses called 00:07:47.980 --> 00:07:52.339 the highest heaven, or the place that Paul called 00:07:52.339 --> 00:07:56.259 paradise. So when we talk about heaven today, 00:07:56.339 --> 00:07:58.860 as I preach about this place, we're not talking 00:07:58.860 --> 00:08:03.980 about the sky above us, nor the outer space, 00:08:04.319 --> 00:08:07.680 the galaxies, but we're talking about the dwelling 00:08:07.680 --> 00:08:12.300 place of God, about that eternal state of heaven, 00:08:14.160 --> 00:08:17.779 If you study scripture, especially the book of 00:08:17.779 --> 00:08:20.800 Revelations, which I know, I know that many Christians 00:08:20.800 --> 00:08:25.279 don't invest much time studying that book because 00:08:25.279 --> 00:08:27.740 they just assume that it's just too difficult 00:08:27.740 --> 00:08:30.439 to understand, too hard. And so you know what 00:08:30.439 --> 00:08:32.100 a lot of Christians do? They're like, well, as 00:08:32.100 --> 00:08:37.759 long as I make it. You know, as long as I, that's 00:08:37.759 --> 00:08:39.980 all they concern themselves with. Usually it's 00:08:39.980 --> 00:08:41.679 just like, well, I don't understand all that 00:08:41.679 --> 00:08:46.269 stuff. I just want to go. And you can take that 00:08:46.269 --> 00:08:49.789 approach if you'd like to, but I believe that 00:08:49.789 --> 00:08:54.230 your faith, your excitement, your enthusiasm 00:08:54.230 --> 00:08:56.789 for that place that God has prepared for us would 00:08:56.789 --> 00:08:59.450 only increase, your faith here would only increase 00:08:59.450 --> 00:09:02.649 if you would dare to look a little deeper into 00:09:02.649 --> 00:09:06.169 what God has prepared for us. It doesn't mean 00:09:06.169 --> 00:09:08.940 you have to become... a prophecy expert or be 00:09:08.940 --> 00:09:11.320 able to explain the book of Revelations frontwards 00:09:11.320 --> 00:09:13.320 and backwards. But what it means is that if you 00:09:13.320 --> 00:09:16.820 can at least learn or understand a few of the 00:09:16.820 --> 00:09:19.759 basic things that God has prepared for us in 00:09:19.759 --> 00:09:22.980 sort of this basic timeline, then it would at 00:09:22.980 --> 00:09:26.620 least bring you comfort and encouragement, confidence 00:09:26.620 --> 00:09:30.179 in knowing that God has a plan. How many of you 00:09:30.179 --> 00:09:33.419 know he's got a plan? I said God's got a plan. 00:09:35.299 --> 00:09:38.639 There will be a period. into the future after 00:09:38.639 --> 00:09:43.940 many years. It'll renew. The state of heaven 00:09:43.940 --> 00:09:47.500 will renew after a time period called the millennium 00:09:47.500 --> 00:09:51.159 or a thousand -year period where Christ will 00:09:51.159 --> 00:09:55.179 reign on the earth. So Jesus is coming back for 00:09:55.179 --> 00:09:58.299 his church. He's going to rapture us, and then 00:09:58.299 --> 00:10:01.779 that's going to initiate a seven -year period 00:10:01.779 --> 00:10:06.279 called the tribulation. And that period will 00:10:06.279 --> 00:10:08.580 be a time of testing here where there's going 00:10:08.580 --> 00:10:10.100 to be a lot of turbulence, a lot of violence, 00:10:10.240 --> 00:10:12.259 a lot of things that are going to unfold here 00:10:12.259 --> 00:10:15.580 in this world. But in that period of time, you 00:10:15.580 --> 00:10:18.879 and I, if we are ready, well, we're going to 00:10:18.879 --> 00:10:20.779 be with the Lord. Got to be certain about the fact that 00:10:41.429 --> 00:10:44.590 we are pre -tribulation believers. We believe 00:10:44.590 --> 00:10:47.309 that Jesus is going to rescue us from this place 00:10:47.309 --> 00:10:50.470 before that period of tribulation begins. So 00:10:50.470 --> 00:10:54.210 there are many that are pre -trib like us. Some 00:10:54.210 --> 00:10:58.360 are post -trib. Some are mid -trib. And some 00:10:58.360 --> 00:11:01.659 are just tripping. Praise God. They don't know 00:11:01.659 --> 00:11:04.620 what they believe. Okay? But we're not, some 00:11:04.620 --> 00:11:08.879 would say, I ain't tripping today. God's going 00:11:08.879 --> 00:11:10.539 to rescue me out of here. Come on. Hallelujah. 00:11:10.679 --> 00:11:12.100 Some of you are afraid to laugh. You're afraid 00:11:12.100 --> 00:11:15.500 to smile. All right. Praise God. And this is 00:11:56.759 --> 00:12:00.200 ultimately where heaven will meet earth once 00:12:00.200 --> 00:12:02.659 again, and we will live with him forever. So 00:12:02.659 --> 00:12:06.840 in this place that God is preparing for us, what 00:12:06.840 --> 00:12:10.940 kind of place will it be? Well, let me first 00:12:10.940 --> 00:12:15.419 tell you that heaven is a prepared place. It 00:12:15.419 --> 00:12:20.600 is a prepared place. Heaven, contrary to what 00:12:20.600 --> 00:12:23.399 many believe, is ultimately not some cloudy space 00:12:23.399 --> 00:12:27.340 in the sky. not some vague concept, not some 00:12:27.340 --> 00:12:31.919 foggy place beyond the blue. Heaven is a real 00:12:31.919 --> 00:12:34.740 place. Heaven is not what you see depicted on 00:12:34.740 --> 00:12:38.799 murals, in chapels, or in stained glass sometimes. 00:12:39.340 --> 00:12:41.860 We're not going to be like angels with little 00:12:41.860 --> 00:12:44.179 wings, playing harps, sitting in the clouds. 00:12:44.980 --> 00:12:48.460 That's not what heaven is going to be like. It 00:12:48.460 --> 00:12:51.830 is a real place. It is a physical, tangible, 00:12:52.110 --> 00:12:56.950 literal place that God is preparing for his people. 00:12:57.409 --> 00:13:00.429 Amen. It's the place that Abraham had in mind 00:13:00.429 --> 00:13:04.409 when Scripture says that he waited for a city. 00:13:04.490 --> 00:13:05.950 And I preached this at the beginning of this 00:13:05.950 --> 00:13:10.029 series. He waited for a city, a real city, which 00:13:10.029 --> 00:13:14.129 has foundations, whose builder and maker is God. 00:13:14.929 --> 00:13:17.929 So from the saints of old to the New Testament 00:13:17.929 --> 00:13:21.809 saints, There was a belief. There was this hope 00:13:21.809 --> 00:13:26.490 that God was preparing a literal city, a place 00:13:26.490 --> 00:13:29.470 where you can plant your feet. This place is 00:13:29.470 --> 00:13:32.509 real. This place is tangible. And he's preparing 00:13:32.509 --> 00:13:36.409 it for us. Jesus is the chief architect. He is 00:13:36.409 --> 00:13:40.950 the builder of this place. So God himself is, 00:13:41.029 --> 00:13:45.970 he is designing, he is preparing, he is constructing 00:13:45.970 --> 00:13:51.679 this place. for us, for all of his people. So 00:13:51.679 --> 00:13:54.799 it's not left for chance. It's not some blob 00:13:54.799 --> 00:13:58.159 of space in the sky. It's not some theoretical, 00:13:58.539 --> 00:14:02.399 foggy, spiritual place where we're just going 00:14:02.399 --> 00:14:05.759 to be in a dreamlike, you know, fuzzy ghost -like 00:14:05.759 --> 00:14:11.139 state. It is going to be a literal place, tangible. 00:14:11.340 --> 00:14:15.000 In fact... John, the writer of Revelation, he 00:14:15.000 --> 00:14:17.519 saw a glimpse of this prepared place in Revelations 00:14:17.519 --> 00:14:22.980 21. Where he says that one day heaven would come 00:14:22.980 --> 00:14:26.379 down to earth and that God would make all things 00:14:26.379 --> 00:14:31.279 new. He writes these words in verse 1 of Revelations 00:14:31.279 --> 00:14:36.580 21. He says, now I saw a new heaven and a new 00:14:36.580 --> 00:14:40.120 earth. For the first heaven and the first earth 00:14:40.120 --> 00:14:44.340 had passed away. So currently there is a heaven 00:14:44.340 --> 00:14:46.639 and currently there is an earth. We're sitting 00:14:46.639 --> 00:14:48.879 here right now on the earth. There's coming a 00:14:48.879 --> 00:14:51.759 day in future glory where God's going to make 00:14:51.759 --> 00:14:56.019 everything brand spanking new. The earth is getting 00:14:56.019 --> 00:14:59.480 a makeover. Even heaven is going to get a makeover. 00:15:00.139 --> 00:15:03.440 God, so the way heaven is currently not going 00:15:03.440 --> 00:15:06.159 to look the same in the future. God's going to, 00:15:06.159 --> 00:15:08.340 he's going to go back to the drawing board. He's 00:15:08.340 --> 00:15:11.750 going to make everything brand new. Also, there 00:15:11.750 --> 00:15:16.649 was no more sea. Then I, John, saw the holy city, 00:15:16.769 --> 00:15:21.250 the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven 00:15:21.250 --> 00:15:26.009 from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her 00:15:26.009 --> 00:15:30.110 husband. And this church is where we're going 00:15:30.110 --> 00:15:35.889 to live forever in a new heaven on earth or what 00:15:35.889 --> 00:15:40.049 John described as a new Jerusalem, a holy city. 00:15:40.600 --> 00:15:44.879 So the reality is, our eternal home is ultimately 00:15:44.879 --> 00:15:47.840 not going to be someplace in the sky beyond, 00:15:48.019 --> 00:15:51.220 you know, the planet Pluto or Jupiter or something 00:15:51.220 --> 00:15:56.220 like that, beyond the sun. Our eternal home ultimately 00:15:56.220 --> 00:15:59.279 is going to be right back here on earth. But 00:15:59.279 --> 00:16:01.240 this is how it's going to be. It's going to be 00:16:01.240 --> 00:16:05.039 brand new, and heaven is coming down to earth. 00:16:05.519 --> 00:16:08.299 And this is going to be that eternal place that 00:16:08.299 --> 00:16:12.320 we are going to reside with God. And we're not 00:16:12.320 --> 00:16:15.320 going to be here as disembodied spirits.
