But mothers, it seems 00:03:17.449 --> 00:03:21.909 like the stories that we engage in or we read 00:03:21.909 --> 00:03:27.189 about in biblical stories, the characters of 00:03:27.189 --> 00:03:30.449 the Bible, it seems as though moms, they have 00:03:30.449 --> 00:03:33.530 a special place. They just have a way of doing 00:03:33.530 --> 00:03:37.949 things that makes a huge influence on humanity. 00:03:38.189 --> 00:03:41.689 on people and especially their children. In our 00:03:41.689 --> 00:03:46.669 script of Matthew, we read about the mother of 00:03:46.669 --> 00:03:51.169 the sons of Zebedee. The name of the mother of 00:03:51.169 --> 00:03:55.849 the sons of Zebedee was Salome. Salome was not 00:03:55.849 --> 00:04:01.530 born divine. She did not, nor had any advantage 00:04:01.530 --> 00:04:06.189 over any other mother. She was just a regular 00:04:06.189 --> 00:04:10.169 mom, as somebody might say, for putting it bluntly. 00:04:10.270 --> 00:04:13.250 But she was simply a mother seeking a place in 00:04:13.250 --> 00:04:17.750 God's kingdom for her sons. So the name Salome 00:04:17.750 --> 00:04:20.870 means, if you could put that slide up, thank 00:04:20.870 --> 00:04:25.569 you. Salome means strength, peace, and covering. 00:04:25.810 --> 00:04:29.509 That's what... this mom's name means, strength, 00:04:29.769 --> 00:04:34.209 peace, and covering. So mothers have a dosage 00:04:34.209 --> 00:04:39.589 of incredible strength, a gift to bring peace, 00:04:39.850 --> 00:04:43.329 and also to secure a covering for her children. 00:04:43.949 --> 00:04:47.870 Salome's two sons, one named James and the other 00:04:47.870 --> 00:04:51.149 one named John, were professional fishermen. 00:04:51.389 --> 00:04:55.189 If you read the Gospels, they were not only fishermen, 00:04:55.269 --> 00:04:57.790 but they were were sons of a fisherman, of a 00:04:57.790 --> 00:05:01.149 businessman. They were not just casual fishermen. 00:05:01.449 --> 00:05:04.350 They were men of business, businessmen. In other 00:05:04.350 --> 00:05:07.790 words, this was their occupation. Not only were 00:05:07.790 --> 00:05:10.670 they good at it, they were professionals, and 00:05:10.670 --> 00:05:13.670 they were businessmen on top of that, who were 00:05:13.670 --> 00:05:17.550 among the first that were selected to be disciples 00:05:17.550 --> 00:05:20.970 of Jesus in His ministry, in His earthly ministry. 00:05:21.149 --> 00:05:24.910 Jesus selected these men. What He saw in them, 00:05:25.029 --> 00:05:29.220 put potentially you know, was because there was 00:05:29.220 --> 00:05:33.220 something deeper about these young men when God 00:05:33.220 --> 00:05:36.519 selected them. Yes, they were about their father's 00:05:36.519 --> 00:05:40.000 business, and they were fishing along their father's 00:05:40.000 --> 00:05:44.519 side, and they had a lot to do with the progress 00:05:44.519 --> 00:05:47.779 and the sustaining of the family and the family 00:05:47.779 --> 00:05:51.980 business. But these boys, these young men, as 00:05:51.980 --> 00:05:55.259 when the Lord called them, He called them not 00:05:55.259 --> 00:05:59.600 so much because they were good fishermen and 00:05:59.600 --> 00:06:03.379 they were men that are good businessmen. It wasn't 00:06:03.379 --> 00:06:06.139 that that impressed the Lord or why the Lord 00:06:06.139 --> 00:06:08.699 selected him. But I believe that the Lord chose 00:06:08.699 --> 00:06:11.319 them because of their character, the kind of 00:06:11.319 --> 00:06:14.540 men that they were. These men were stable in 00:06:14.540 --> 00:06:17.879 their minds and in their hearts. These men had 00:06:17.879 --> 00:06:22.240 an ingrained, amen, something about them. The 00:06:22.240 --> 00:06:25.439 influence upon their lives was something. that 00:06:25.439 --> 00:06:29.639 was worthy of the Lord looking upon them. Because 00:06:29.639 --> 00:06:32.399 you see, when God selects people, He doesn't 00:06:32.399 --> 00:06:35.300 just select them by how they look on the outside. 00:06:35.740 --> 00:06:38.620 He selects them by what they are in the inside. 00:06:39.060 --> 00:06:42.379 And I believe that a father has an influence 00:06:42.379 --> 00:06:46.519 on young men, especially on the outside and the 00:06:46.519 --> 00:06:49.980 exterior. He wants them to be men. He wants them 00:06:49.980 --> 00:06:52.699 to be strong. But the Lord wasn't just looking 00:06:57.810 --> 00:07:00.689 for a fisherman. But yet the mother understands 00:07:46.269 --> 00:07:49.269 the children. She understands her children even 00:07:49.269 --> 00:07:53.259 further, amen. And I believe that James and were 00:07:53.259 --> 00:07:57.839 known as the sons of thunder. These men, they 00:07:57.839 --> 00:08:00.699 just weren't the sons of thunder because they 00:08:00.699 --> 00:08:03.620 had bold muscles and they had a physique and 00:08:03.620 --> 00:08:07.199 they were fishermen and their skin was darkened 00:08:07.199 --> 00:08:10.699 by the sun. No, they were sons of thunder because 00:08:10.699 --> 00:08:14.319 something in the inside of them that was planted 00:08:14.319 --> 00:08:18.000 by a mom, a mother, amen, they didn't become 00:08:18.000 --> 00:08:20.519 the sons of thunder because the father taught 00:08:20.519 --> 00:08:23.579 them how to fish. They became the sons of thunder 00:08:23.579 --> 00:08:27.360 because the mom instilled something inside of 00:08:27.360 --> 00:08:32.649 their spirit. She is the one that taught 00:09:28.549 --> 00:09:31.690 them this is how you live a peaceful life and 00:09:31.690 --> 00:09:35.269 this is how you live a loving life. They had 00:09:35.690 --> 00:09:40.129 No fears. They had no anxieties. She 00:10:05.169 --> 00:10:08.590 was preparing them for their future. She was 00:10:08.590 --> 00:10:12.669 preparing them, Lord, you know, become purposeful 00:10:12.669 --> 00:10:16.970 in the work of God, not knowing she did her duty 00:10:16.970 --> 00:10:21.210 in shaping their lives with positive and sensitive 00:10:21.210 --> 00:10:24.549 characteristics toward God, first and foremost, 00:10:24.769 --> 00:10:28.090 and his truth. Your mother has a great influence 00:10:39.639 --> 00:10:43.519 upon your life so that you can press on. What she did, it doesn't say exactly. 00:11:51.220 --> 00:11:54.159 It's not in scriptures. It's not much is said 00:11:54.159 --> 00:11:58.519 about her thereafter. But this woman was truly 00:11:58.519 --> 00:12:03.279 a prayerful woman. a woman that sought out God. 00:12:03.620 --> 00:12:08.159 Salome truly raised up her boys to be disciples. 00:12:08.480 --> 00:12:12.460 She took the training up of her children seriously. 00:12:12.659 --> 00:12:15.840 She didn't leave it up to the schools. She just stayed up as often as she 00:13:55.399 --> 00:13:58.059 could, protecting her children after they had 00:13:58.059 --> 00:14:02.480 been hung on a cross.
