The verses I'm going 00:00:10.779 --> 00:00:13.779 to be reading today, I'm not going to expound 00:00:13.779 --> 00:00:16.239 on them, but what I'd like to do is sort of set 00:00:16.239 --> 00:00:20.500 the stage, set a backdrop for some things that 00:00:20.500 --> 00:00:23.059 God has placed in my heart to share with you 00:00:23.059 --> 00:00:25.300 this afternoon. But this is a very important 00:00:25.300 --> 00:00:30.780 scene, pivotal moment. In the story of the Gospels, 00:00:30.780 --> 00:00:35.140 it reads this way. Matthew 27, verse 62. On the 00:00:35.140 --> 00:00:38.020 next day, which followed the day of preparation, 00:00:38.560 --> 00:00:41.380 the chief priests and the Pharisees gathered 00:00:41.380 --> 00:00:44.859 together to Pilate, saying, Sir, we remember, 00:00:44.979 --> 00:00:48.960 while he was still alive, how that deceiver said, 00:00:49.179 --> 00:00:55.079 After three days I will rise. Therefore, command 00:00:55.079 --> 00:00:58.590 that the tomb be made secure. until the third 00:00:58.590 --> 00:01:03.030 day. Lest his disciples come by night and steal 00:01:03.030 --> 00:01:05.790 him away and say to the people, he has risen 00:01:05.790 --> 00:01:10.370 from the dead. So the last deception will be 00:01:10.370 --> 00:01:15.549 worse than the first. Pilate said to them, you 00:01:15.549 --> 00:01:19.310 have your guard, go your way, make it as secure 00:01:19.310 --> 00:01:23.370 as you know how. So they went and made the tomb 00:01:23.370 --> 00:01:29.920 secure, sealing The stone and setting the guard. 00:01:30.900 --> 00:01:34.659 Now, not going to get into all the details of 00:01:34.659 --> 00:01:37.120 this passage, but what I want to point out to 00:01:37.120 --> 00:01:40.500 you is that these events, this conversation, 00:01:40.719 --> 00:01:43.819 this scene in the text, it happened on the Saturday. 00:01:44.120 --> 00:01:48.219 It happened on the second day. Amen. And that's 00:01:48.219 --> 00:01:51.439 a very important moment. And so what I want to 00:01:51.439 --> 00:01:54.760 preach today, a very simple word, that Saturday. 00:01:55.579 --> 00:01:59.540 It's not the end. And no doubt, Friday and Sunday 00:03:55.229 --> 00:04:01.849 are the mountain peaks of the gospel story. Friday 00:04:01.849 --> 00:04:06.539 is the day of suffering. Amen. When the lamb 00:04:06.539 --> 00:04:13.780 was slain and the price was paid. And Sunday 00:04:13.780 --> 00:04:18.980 is, of course, a day of shouting and celebration. 00:04:19.180 --> 00:04:24.480 When the stone was rolled away and death was 00:04:24.480 --> 00:04:29.540 defeated. Can somebody say amen? And we rejoice 00:04:29.540 --> 00:04:34.220 and we focus in on those bookends of the gospel 00:04:34.220 --> 00:04:39.860 story, Friday and Sunday. But between Friday's 00:04:39.860 --> 00:04:46.420 cross and Sunday's empty tomb is Saturday, a 00:04:46.420 --> 00:04:52.550 day of silence when For a brief moment, all hope 00:04:52.550 --> 00:04:56.829 seemed to be lost. And this is what I have come 00:04:56.829 --> 00:05:00.410 today to preach a little bit about. Because while 00:05:00.410 --> 00:05:04.129 we will tend to gravitate towards the Friday 00:05:04.129 --> 00:05:09.350 or the Sunday, we as a people of faith must consider 00:05:09.350 --> 00:05:12.910 the message of Saturday. Because indeed there 00:05:12.910 --> 00:05:18.649 is... oftentimes a pause between the pain and 00:05:18.649 --> 00:05:24.149 the power. You see, the day after Friday is not 00:05:24.149 --> 00:05:27.730 Sunday, it's Saturday. Someone say, it's Saturday. 00:05:28.910 --> 00:05:32.949 We cannot just skip to Sunday as much as we'd 00:05:32.949 --> 00:05:35.810 like to. But in the minds of many believers, 00:05:35.949 --> 00:05:40.310 the gospel is just a two -day event, not three 00:05:40.310 --> 00:05:45.430 days. We tend to skip Saturday and just go straight 00:05:45.430 --> 00:05:49.850 from the crucifixion to the resurrection, and 00:05:49.850 --> 00:05:53.730 for good reason. Why not just skip to the end? 00:05:53.870 --> 00:05:56.050 Just, you know, fast forward to the good stuff, 00:05:56.250 --> 00:05:59.810 right? Where Jesus conquered death and overcame 00:05:59.810 --> 00:06:02.490 hell, death, and the grave. You know, why not 00:06:02.490 --> 00:06:05.410 just skip past all the stuff in between? Let's 00:06:05.410 --> 00:06:08.250 just get to the good part where we win. And I 00:06:08.250 --> 00:06:10.529 think in the minds of many believers, when we 00:06:10.529 --> 00:06:14.329 begin to think about the story of the gospel, 00:06:14.350 --> 00:06:17.870 and of course, when we come to this part of the 00:06:17.870 --> 00:06:21.949 year, when we make special emphasis, in celebrating, 00:06:22.350 --> 00:06:26.589 commemorating, and preaching this message about 00:06:26.589 --> 00:06:30.269 his resurrection that we do tend to focus on 00:06:30.269 --> 00:06:34.490 the cross and we go straight to the resurrection. 00:06:35.029 --> 00:06:38.230 But there is something about that day in between. 00:06:38.389 --> 00:06:41.949 There is something about that Saturday that needs 00:06:41.949 --> 00:06:44.769 to speak to us today. There is something about 00:06:44.769 --> 00:06:48.069 that in -between day that God wants to, because 00:06:48.069 --> 00:06:50.649 he didn't say in two days. You know, he said 00:06:50.649 --> 00:06:53.709 in three days. Someone say in three days. He 00:06:53.709 --> 00:06:57.189 said in two days. Now, if he wanted to, it could 00:06:57.189 --> 00:06:59.649 have just been like an overnight stay if he wanted 00:06:59.649 --> 00:07:01.810 to do it that way. You know, he could have just 00:07:01.810 --> 00:07:04.370 checked in one day and checked out the next. 00:07:04.649 --> 00:07:07.329 But there is something about the narrative of 00:07:07.329 --> 00:07:09.129 the gospel. There is something about the story 00:07:09.129 --> 00:07:12.430 that we need to look at that day in between. 00:07:12.529 --> 00:07:15.769 There's something about spiritual Saturdays that 00:07:15.769 --> 00:07:19.779 I think we find. just a little unnerving, a little 00:07:19.779 --> 00:07:22.939 unsettling. I think there's a reason why we just 00:07:22.939 --> 00:07:26.040 go from Friday to Sunday, because there's something 00:07:26.040 --> 00:07:29.379 about that Saturday that makes us a little uncomfortable, 00:07:29.560 --> 00:07:32.000 if I could just be real with you here today. 00:07:32.120 --> 00:07:34.680 Somebody say, go ahead. It's kind of like somewhere in between. 00:07:50.660 --> 00:07:54.100 Saturday feels like you're in limbo a little 00:07:54.100 --> 00:07:58.040 bit. It's an in -between period. It's a transition 00:07:58.040 --> 00:08:02.620 period. It's a period where you're not bound 00:08:02.620 --> 00:08:06.060 anymore, or you're not where you used to be, 00:08:06.160 --> 00:08:09.790 but you're not quite where. you want to be. It's 00:08:09.790 --> 00:08:12.490 kind of in the middle of the story somewhere. 00:08:12.829 --> 00:08:15.810 It's those passages, and you know, some of you, 00:08:15.829 --> 00:08:17.430 if you've ever started a book, you know, it's 00:08:17.430 --> 00:08:20.209 easy to read maybe the first two chapters, and 00:08:20.209 --> 00:08:21.829 then if you get a little impatient, you just 00:08:21.829 --> 00:08:23.089 want to get to the end. You know, I just want 00:08:23.089 --> 00:08:25.610 to know, how does the story end? And sometimes, 00:08:25.750 --> 00:08:27.709 you know, we don't want to go through, because 00:08:27.709 --> 00:08:30.310 it's the middle part of the story. It's the middle 00:08:30.310 --> 00:08:33.629 part of something that can be a little bit of 00:08:33.629 --> 00:08:37.190 a drag, or be a bit discouraging, or there might 00:08:37.190 --> 00:08:39.950 be some twists and some turns and some things 00:08:39.950 --> 00:08:43.370 that we don't quite want to deal with. There's 00:08:43.370 --> 00:08:45.950 something about that. Saturday feels like you're 00:08:45.950 --> 00:08:48.470 in limbo. It feels like you're not quite where 00:08:48.470 --> 00:08:51.809 you want to be. And it was that Saturday in the 00:08:51.809 --> 00:08:54.870 story of the gospel that I came to preach about 00:08:54.870 --> 00:08:58.250 today. This is why I came to preach about Saturday. 00:08:59.309 --> 00:09:02.250 It's kind of a, now this is Sunday, but I'm going 00:09:02.250 --> 00:09:03.850 to preach a Saturday message if that's all right. 00:09:03.909 --> 00:09:07.320 Amen. But 00:09:20.360 --> 00:09:23.799 it's those Saturday moments in life. It's those 00:09:23.799 --> 00:09:26.980 Saturday seasons in our faith where we are most 00:09:26.980 --> 00:09:30.820 tempted to question God's plan in our life. How many of you would like to know 00:10:00.120 --> 00:10:04.460 what to do in a Saturday season? Come on, turn 00:10:04.460 --> 00:10:09.620 to somebody and say, it might be Saturday. It 00:10:09.620 --> 00:10:12.580 might be Saturday. Saturday is that period of 00:10:12.580 --> 00:10:16.220 time between the word spoken and the promise 00:10:16.220 --> 00:10:20.860 received. Saturday is that time between the prophecy 00:10:20.860 --> 00:10:24.639 given or the prayer prayed and the prayer answered 00:10:24.639 --> 00:10:27.799 or the prophecy fulfilled. First thing I want 00:10:27.799 --> 00:10:30.419 to tell you today about a Saturday season is 00:10:30.419 --> 00:10:34.399 that you ought not to, don't confuse. Silence 00:10:34.399 --> 00:10:39.139 with stillness. Somebody say amen. Imagine that. The graves, people just 00:11:59.450 --> 00:12:01.110 got up out of the grave and started walking around 00:12:01.110 --> 00:12:04.889 on Friday. The veil in the temple was torn on 00:12:04.889 --> 00:12:08.250 Friday. Blackness covered the sky. I mean, Friday 00:12:08.250 --> 00:12:14.889 was loud. It was loud. It was dramatic. It was 00:12:14.889 --> 00:12:19.610 really loud. It was active. But then came Saturday. 00:12:20.970 --> 00:12:23.370 And all of a sudden, you could hear a pin drop. 00:12:24.269 --> 00:12:28.450 On Saturday, everything stopped. It was not on Friday, 00:13:06.019 --> 00:13:08.759 but it was on Saturday where they started getting 00:13:08.759 --> 00:13:11.960 together behind closed doors and started talking 00:13:11.960 --> 00:13:14.759 among themselves and trying to figure out what 00:13:14.759 --> 00:13:16.940 God was doing. doing, it was on that Saturday 00:13:16.940 --> 00:13:20.480 that they began to feel like maybe God had forgotten 00:13:20.480 --> 00:13:23.100 about them and maybe things were going to take 00:13:23.100 --> 00:13:26.039 a turn for the worse. It was on Saturday where 00:13:26.039 --> 00:13:28.299 they began to feel the weight of the silence 00:13:28.299 --> 00:13:31.320 and say, man, have you ever felt like God? Right 00:13:31.320 --> 00:13:33.440 now would be a really good time to hear a word 00:13:33.440 --> 00:13:35.340 from you, Lord. I don't know if you've ever been 00:13:35.340 --> 00:13:37.460 in a place like that where you say, man, Lord, 00:13:37.500 --> 00:13:40.080 right now, I mean, if ever I needed to hear a 00:13:40.080 --> 00:13:43.039 word, today would be a good day. Lord, have you 00:13:43.039 --> 00:13:45.450 ever been in a place like that? The Lord, even 00:13:45.450 --> 00:13:47.909 if you just whisper something to me, send me 00:13:47.909 --> 00:13:50.350 a little paper airplane from heaven, God, and 00:13:50.350 --> 00:13:52.509 I'll catch it. Hey, let me tell you something. 00:14:11.419 --> 00:14:14.940 That in the unseen realm on that Saturday, Jesus 00:14:14.940 --> 00:14:18.200 was, maybe he was silent, but he was not still. 00:14:18.399 --> 00:14:22.120 The Bible says that God was active in the unseen 00:14:22.120 --> 00:14:26.059 spiritual realm. taking care of business, doing 00:14:26.059 --> 00:14:29.860 things in the supernatural. We read in Ephesians 00:14:29.860 --> 00:14:33.799 chapter 4, it tells us that before he ascended, 00:14:33.799 --> 00:14:37.500 he first descended into the lower parts of the 00:14:37.500 --> 00:14:40.659 earth, and he was declaring victory to the spirits 00:14:40.659 --> 00:14:43.700 in the underworld. And there's a lot of other 00:14:43.700 --> 00:14:47.039 theories and things that we can glean from Scripture 00:14:47.039 --> 00:14:50.899 that tell us that on that Saturday, Jesus was 00:14:50.899 --> 00:14:54.610 still active. and doing things and turning things 00:14:54.610 --> 00:14:58.629 around and preaching and working. Let me just 00:14:58.629 --> 00:15:01.629 encourage somebody here today, just because you 00:15:01.629 --> 00:15:04.389 don't see him, just because you may not feel 00:15:04.389 --> 00:15:07.049 him, just because you don't understand what's 00:15:07.049 --> 00:15:09.309 going on in your life, I wish I had a witness 00:15:09.309 --> 00:15:12.769 today. It doesn't mean that God is not still 00:15:12.769 --> 00:15:15.190 moving. Come on, is there somebody here today? 00:15:15.289 --> 00:15:17.470 Come on, I'm talking to you today.
