Chad Mahoe [00:00:05]: Father God, we just thank you, Lord, for this opportunity to just preach your word, Lord. Father God, we lift you up in praise, Lord, and worship. We just thank you for all the hearts and the people who are watching, either online, Lord, or in person. And we just ask that the message will not fall on deaf ears, Lord, but ears that are wide open and a heart that's ready to receive, Lord. So, Father God, we just give you all praise and glory. We thank youk in Jesus name. Amen. Amen. Chad Mahoe [00:00:34]: All right. All right. Thank you, Naoko and Imelda, for that beautiful worship. All right, so before we get started with the message, I did want to remind everyone that if you do have any prayer requests, you can go ahead and text that in to 808-793-5655. That is 808-793-5655. My name is Chad Mahoy, and I'm the ministry development coach here. And I just recently kind of transitioned out of a role as a worship director, and Brother Steve is kind of taking the helm in this season. And, you know, not surprisingly, my message that really just came to me and just felt like it was a very timely message. Chad Mahoe [00:01:25]: It's titled Kinohi Ho and Kinohiho. I got that because we just actually had our number eight. Eight child. It was a boy. He was healthy. Yeah. Thank you, Lord. Praise the Lord. Chad Mahoe [00:01:41]: And most of our children were not planned. It's not like we were like, okay, we're gonna have a child now, but, you know, it's blessing from the Lord, right? As it says in Psalm 127, children are a blessing from the Lord. They're a gift from Him. And we're grateful for the gifts that he's blessed us with, all eight of them. But, you know, the message tonight, part of the reason why I titled it KinOhio is number eight in the Bible. What it represents is it's actually new beginnings. So after the seventh day started, an eighth day, and if we look at what happened with Noah and the flood on that eighth day, then they got to walk and explore the land. You know, it is a new beginning in many ways for me as husband, a father, even at my work site. Chad Mahoe [00:02:44]: So, again, this message is very timely and very fitting. We actually named our son Kinohi, so that wasn't a coincidence. But as I start off, you know, it started with a picture so you could get to see Kinohi. That was our announcement. And in the middle there, of course, our son was born on July 21. Interestingly enough, we went in the day before and we were thinking he was going to be born in the evening, but he didn't come to the next day, probably because his prior two siblings were born on the 21st. Nice fun fact. Different months. Chad Mahoe [00:03:22]: Different months, but on the 21st. So that was obviously a big change for us. Not that we're not accustomed to having babies around or, you know, raising kids, but it's a brand new child. And with a brand new child comes brand new things that happen, like sleepless nights, like feeding baby. And most of that's not me. Obviously, my wife takes the brunt of it. So two hours usually is a good night for her. Starting to get a little bit more now, but it's a blessing, of course, but it does come with some work. Chad Mahoe [00:03:59]: And the picture on the left here, you can see that's Kaniela, who's my number six child. For those of you who are aware, he's the one that was born on the freeway in our van. I got to deliver him. But that picture is there because he just started kindergarten at Kamehameha schools and we're, you know, very blessed, very thankful for him being there. But he has to catch the bus in the morning. How many of you guys had to catch the bus in kindergarten? Anybody in kindergarten? Okay, yeah, maybe Brianna, because she went to the similar school. Same school, but yeah. So he catches the bus early in the morning, believe it or not, six o' clock in the morning, he catches the bus and that's what time he needs to be there so he doesn't miss the bus. Chad Mahoe [00:04:47]: That means everybody else, all of us who are going to school, needs to get up at 5am at least a little bit earlier for me. But so that's a new beginning for us. A child getting into Kamehameha, being a lifer. On the right side, the picture is of Pomaikai, that's my number seven child. And she recently, she's three years old, so she recently just started learning the game of soccer. So really basic stuff, even jumping with two feet, believe it or not, she had to learn that. And she's maybe not mastered it, but she's continuing to learn. But as you can see, just in the three youngest children in my family, there's so many different transitions, so many changes that we're going through, not to mention a new volleyball season for my daughter Uakea, and figuring things out with my older sons, Kopaka and Elua, helping out with the business and teaching, helping to take care of the kids. Chad Mahoe [00:05:47]: But that's not the only transition that we're going through. Before I get into that, actually, I did put in 1st Samuel 16, 7, and I wanted to read it. And it says, but the Lord said to Samuel, do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart. And part of the reason why I wanted to share that scripture is that was what Anela and I in the hospital, that's what we prayed over our son, because that's actually his middle name. And in Hawaiian, I figured we can get a, you know, a little bit of Hawaiian in our. In our time together tonight. Chad Mahoe [00:06:32]: So you can put that scripture up. It's the same scripture, but in kabai bala hemolele. And it's from Kabuke mua osamuela. And it reads, olelomaila o Yehovah ya samuela samuela maenana oi ikonaano mavaho aoleho IHI okona kino wahoo ya no kamea aole makamea ake kanaka I KE kanaka ina hele helena AKA kenana ne oyehova ikanao. So again, that's where we got it from. We took it, you know, naming him after David, of course. And the reason why is because Kaniela was actually named after, if you didn't know, translation, Daniel. So we wanted to keep that consistent. Chad Mahoe [00:07:29]: But. But anyways, I wanted to share that as a kind of thing to bring some olelo in it and some culture in it. But that wasn't the only type of change, not just within my family with the new baby and new beginnings with that, but I also experienced some new changes in my workplace. And, you know, for those of you who've kind of followed along with just the different challenges and different types of persecution that that can happen sometimes at work. I was actually moved from my position as a grade level counselor. I'm still a counselor, high risk counselor, but I'm also in this position called in school suspension. So I'm a teacher for that. So in this next slide, what you'll see is some pictures of how my room looked the first day that I got on the job. Chad Mahoe [00:08:18]: So when I got in there, it was dirty, it smelled pretty bad, had some lizard droppings all over the place. There was tons of tables in there. I think There was about seven or eight tables in there. There were like 30 chairs. So, of course, maybe a little panic rose up in me and it's like, oh, what are they trying to do to me? Are they trying to give me 30 students? Or, you know, whatever my own thoughts were for my new role at work. But I had to remind myself that, you know, I was placed in this position for a reason. And even if my principal. My principal who retired, bless her heart, whatever the reason was, there was a bigger reason for that. Chad Mahoe [00:09:04]: And, you know, for me, I had to remind myself of Colossians 3. 23. And it reads, whatever you do, work at it with all your heart as working for the Lord, not for human masters. And although I was definitely bitter and frustrated at first for being moved to a different position. And it wasn't just moved to a different position, but I was with my students for two whole years. So I got to know them, their families, really well. So I didn't really understand. I didn't like it. Chad Mahoe [00:09:35]: I didn't agree with it. So I had to train myself to ensure that I understood that God's plans were much greater than any other plans that may have went into this change for me. And in that process, as I got to clean up my classroom, the next picture shows what it looks like today. I actually. I think I took it either today or yesterday. Yesterday, I think it took it, but it looks a little bit nicer. I figured out, okay, maybe I should take a panoramic shot so you can see a better view of the room. But I got to set it up so, as you can see there, there's desks. Chad Mahoe [00:10:13]: It's nice. It looks a little shiny. Custodians come in and mop the floors and everything, too. But it's really a sanctuary for me and to. To help this process to fruition. What better way for me to. To acknowledge that than to invite Pastor Glenn to my classroom? And he came on the first week of school. He was gracious enough to come and pray over my classroom, to anoint the walls, and, you know, to really pray that God would use my classroom for his purposes, not just my own or what the school has in mind. Chad Mahoe [00:10:56]: And I even got to invite a friend, some of you may know, Auntie Dawn o', Brien, friend for many years. She got to come, and we got to pray over the school and pray for different teachers at the school as well. But really, God had to do something in my heart to kind of bring peace. And that wasn't something that I did on my own at all. You know, obviously, it still doesn't make sense to me, but I'm at peace with it, and I'm Very blessed to be in this position. And I'm excited to see what God's going to do, not just in my position, but with the school year that we're. That we just started. So there's a quote that I found, and there was an interesting story behind the quote. Chad Mahoe [00:11:47]: So I'll read the quote so you can see it. It says, the secret of change is to focus all of your energy not on fighting the old, but on building the new. And as you can see, this was from Socrates. So many of you know Socrates as the ancient philosopher. However, this was not from the ancient philosopher Socrates. This actually came from a book, and in the fine print, it says Way of the Peaceful Warrior, I think by Dan Millman. So it was a book that had a character named Socrates, and that's where they got this quote from. So they attribute it to Socrates, the ancient philosopher, but that's not from him. Chad Mahoe [00:12:28]: And the reason why I brought this up is because you can't always trust what you see out there. And you need to understand that people will try to twist the word of God and try to interpret it, misinterpret what it says a lot of times. So the only way that you can get the real truth is from the word of God. So with that, I'm going to go ahead and jump into just my scripture for tonight. And it comes from Philippians, chapter three, verses 13 and 14. So we're going to read it together. If you guys don't mind reading it with me, let's read it together. Ready? Begin. Chad Mahoe [00:13:06]: No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it. But I focus on this one thing, forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead. I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us. So, of course, this scripture really stuck out for me as I was thinking of what God wanted me to share tonight in my message. And I want to break it down a little bit further. So in Philippians 3:13, I highlighted it and it says, no, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it. So this, as I broke it down, it was a reminder for me that even in my job as a school counselor, I've not achieved it yet. I have not achieved everything that I was hoping to achieve. Chad Mahoe [00:13:58]: And even in maybe there is a different position that God wants for me that I need to be open to. So I had to wrestle with that. And then it goes on and it says, but I focus on this one thing, forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies Ahead, how many of you guys out there struggle to forget the past? Anybody? Maybe. Hopefully not just me. Sometimes it's hard to forget the past. Even if it's good stuff, even if it's great relationships that I've built with students, even if it's building great relationships with the families. I need to understand that I don't need to dwell on the past. I don't need to stay there. Chad Mahoe [00:14:41]: I still have the same relationship with my students that I had for the past two years. It's just in a little different role. I still see them every day, which is a blessing. But I look forward to what lies ahead. And if I don't ponder that and meditate on that part of the scripture, I can get stuck. I can get stuck in being frustrated. I can get stuck in being angry at someone or holding a grudge. But I don't need to do that because I understand that God has a greater plans for me. Chad Mahoe [00:15:17]: And in Philippians 3:14, it reads, I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus is calling us. And I like that phrase. I press on again, press on for me. Helps me to remember, to persevere, to endure. You know, the idea of long suffering comes to mind. You know, and this isn't even long suffering, you know, struggling with this issue. But it's really to not be discouraged, to have courage, to stick things out, to do your best, to give your excellence to God, even if you have no idea what you're doing, even if there's no real program that maybe has been built before, that God's working on me, that God's working on this position because he wants to work in my heart and in expanding my reach or my influence. So that was something I needed to make sure I understand. Chad Mahoe [00:16:26]: And then it says, further, to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus is calling us. And it's a reminder that the prize that we're all working towards, it's to be more like Jesus. And it's not our salvation, because that's a gift from God. It's through his grace that we're saved. But it's really to press into God to run our race well, so that when it's time to celebrate and go to heaven, it's like, you know, God can say, hey, well done, good and faithful servant. So with that, I want to just close this time and just kind of meditate for a few moments and just maybe for some of you guys, out there. Maybe you're experiencing some change right now. Maybe you're struggling through some things that you've been going through and you don't know how to let it go. Chad Mahoe [00:17:31]: You don't know how to shake it. So I want to pray for that before we go to the reflection questions and a time for prayer individually. Father God, I thank you, Lord, that change is inevitable, that we all go through changes in our lives and we all have to start fresh and we have to start anew sometimes, whether that's in our job sites, in our families, whether it's getting used to maybe someone not being there anymore. But, Father God, I thank you, Lord, that as long as we sometimes hold on to you, Lord, but as long as we press into you, Lord, and we continue to seek you, Lord, and we continue to pray to you, Lord, that we're able to endure just about anything. So, Father God, as we close this time in this message, Lord, I just ask that you bring to mind just moments for, for our brothers and sisters out there, Lord, that if they're struggling through something, Lord, would you give them some hope, Lord? Would you speak to them, Lord? Would you remind them of how faithful that you are, Lord, of how you provide for their every need. So, Father, we lift you up, Lord, and we ask that you continue to bless this time together that we're here and we give you all praise in Jesus name. Amen. All right, so the reflection questions are just some things that I put together and it's just to help you guys kind of process the message and to be able to pray either in groups, if you'd like to, if you guys are in the house, even if you're at home. Chad Mahoe [00:19:13]: But the first one is yesterday is gone, today is here. What is one thing you have done today to move toward God? Number two, it says change can be scary and uncertain. What changes are you going through in this season? And who can you partner with on your journey? You know, community is so important when you're going through difficult times. Sometimes it's so easy to just isolate and to just retreat. But God wants you to partner with others. Partner with new hope. Kapolei Come to church. There's many people who would love to pray for you. Chad Mahoe [00:19:48]: And the third one is it's important to celebrate your successes. What is one goal in the next month? And name one thing you can do to celebrate once you've achieved it. So with that, we'll take some time to pray individually and we'll come back together and close it out and pray corporately. Thank you, Sam Sa. Sa Sa. If you guys are praying still, you can continue to pray, but I'm going to close this portion of the gathering and then we'll move on to corporate prayer. But Father God, I thank you for this topic, Lord, this, this message of new beginnings, Lord Father God, I thank you. It's not just new beginnings in my life, Lord, but for so many other people who are going through transitions, Father God, I. Chad Mahoe [00:42:54]: I pray specifically, Lord, for our church, New Hope Coppola. Father God, I thank you for all the new beginnings, the. The changes, Lord, the. The new season that we're in as a church, Lord Father God, I thank you that this message is timely in. In. In helping people to really press in to who you are, Lord, and, and to continue to seek you and to grow in their relationship with you, Lord just as in growing in maturity, Lord, from feeding on milk, Lord, to solid food, Lord, Would you help our congregation, Lord to grow in their faith, Lord to yearn for that solid food, Lord, that you want us to grow towards, Lord Father God, I pray not just for the church as a whole, Lord, but I pray for our Dream Team, Lord, all our volunteers, Lord, all the people that help to make New Hope Kapolei run and the different systems that we have in place and the different leaders within the Dream Team, Lord. Father God, I pray a covering over them, Lord and I just ask for just a freshness and a newness, Lord that it's not just within their capacity as leaders to help disciple others, Lord but new people would come and show up, Lord and new people would step into positions on the Dream Team, Lord, Even if it's something that maybe they've never tried before, Lord Sometimes you have plans for us, Lord that we can't plan ourselves, Lord and we can't see things in the rear view before we go through something, Lord. So Father God, I'm just hearing that you have positions out there for people within the church, Lord to jump in on a Dream Team position, Lord that may be something that they're not accustomed to or maybe they don't feel skilled enough or have enough experience in, Lord that you just need a willing heart, Lord. Chad Mahoe [00:45:00]: So Father God, we pray for those people who may have been thinking about joining the Dream Team, Lord, but maybe just didn't feel it's the right time, Lord. Father God, we know that your timing is perfect and sometimes we wish our timing was perfect, but it's always your timing that's perfect, Lord. So Father God, I just pray a covering again over our church, our Volunteers, Lord, our leadership, Father God, I do pray for Pastor Glenn, Lord, as a shepherd of our church, Father God, thank you for his wisdom and his. His messages, Lord, his friendship, his. His leadership amongst our church, Father God, would you continue to bless him, Lord, and his family as well, Lord, we just thank you, Lord, for. For again a message that can spring up at any time, Lord, but I feel like this is the right time for the message, Lord. So, Father God, we just give you all praise and glory as we close this portion of the message, Lord. And we thank you for new beginnings, Lord. Chad Mahoe [00:45:58]: We thank you for the endurance that we grow and the perseverance and the character that we build, Lord. So, Father God, all glory goes to you, Lord. So we thank you in Jesus name, Amen. Amen. And it seems like we got some prayers that came in, so thank you guys for jotting those down. If you do have any prayers still that you'd like to submit, you can text it in 808-793-5655. That's 808-793-5655. It should come straight to my phone. Chad Mahoe [00:46:31]: So if we get it in time, I'll definitely go ahead and pray for it. But we'll start at the top. Pray for my brother, his recovery and his healing from emergency surgery, Lord, we praise you that he's able to go home, Lord. Father God, we know that sometimes the journey is not straight, narrow, that there's rocky portions, Lord, and maybe sometimes we have. We go off to the side and the path sometimes. But Father God, I thank you for my brother Kyle, Lord, and the recovery that he's been on, Lord, and the healing that he's experienced from the surgery that he's gone through, Lord. Father God, I ask that you continue to bless him, Lord, continue to heal him until he's whole again, Lord. Would you continue to help him to surround himself by brothers and sisters who know him and love him. Chad Mahoe [00:47:26]: And we'll be able to stand in prayer with him, Lord, continuously throughout his journey. Father God, we thank you for him, Lord, we pray for our sister who is regaining the use of her legs, Lord, What a miracle to be able to. Whatever it is, Lord, if it's an injury or if it's something that she hasn't had the use of her legs, Father God, thank you for our sister who's able to use her legs again, Lord. I can't imagine the feeling that she must get, Lord, that there's this feeling in it again, Lord, and that there's a process of strengthening, Lord, and Maybe rehab, Lord, and maybe some physical therapy, Lord, But Father God, I thank you for my sister who's experiencing, I'm sure, joy that she's maybe hasn't felt in a long time, Lord, Would you help her to endure the hard times, Lord, of building strength, Lord, and to get the range of motion and everything else back, Lord, in her legs. Father, thank you for that miracle. Lord, we pray for someone's siblings who are going to a new school, Lord. Father, thank you that they're able to go to a new school, new opportunities. Lord, Sometimes it can be scary and sometimes there's uncertainty who you're going to hang out with, who you're going to, where you're going to go during lunch or recess, or which teachers you're gonna talk with or get close to. Chad Mahoe [00:49:03]: Father God, we pray a blessing over these kids, Lord, these students who are going to a new school, and for any students who are experiencing being at a new school, I know it can be challenging. I know it can be scary. But Father God, I thank you that there's, there's your people that's there, Lord, whether that's educators, Lord, whether it's fellow students who know you and who have a relationship with you, would you help them to build solid relationships with people at the school, Lord, with students, Lord, that they'll have common interests, Lord, that they may participate in the same activities? Would you help them to make connections with a significant adult on campus? Lord, we know that when they're able to build a good significant relationships with adults on campus, Lord, that they feel more secure, they feel safer, Lord, that they feel more engaged in what's going on. So, Father God, we pray for them, Lord. We pray for just their journey for this new school year, Lord, and would you give them a maybe, a peace and a joy that maybe they haven't experienced and that they never knew was possible? Lord, so we lift them up to you, Lord. We pray for, for soccer, for someone who's maybe playing the game of soccer and that they can learn the game, kick the ball, learn of the basic moves, Lord, and maybe to develop maybe a love for the game as well, Lord, maybe if they're on a team, Lord, would you help them to get along with their teammates? Would you help them to be free from injury, Lord? Would you help them to make the practices or make the games? Would you help their parents to develop relationships with other parents, Lord, so that they can start to build relationships that maybe could last for years? But Father God, thank you for that. Soccer may be just the first sport that this child plays, Lord, that. That's not the end, Lord, but part of the foundational aspects of learning a sport, Lord, is being coordinated and learning how to run and learning how to kick a ball even, Lord. Chad Mahoe [00:51:17]: So Father God, we thank you that those are transferable skills, Lord, that they'll carry with them through, through life, Lord, through any sport that they, they may play in the future. We also pray for someone's oral surgery that they're doing tomorrow, Lord, that they're going to take out four wisdom teeth. I do not envy that person. I know that there may be a little bit of pain involved, maybe a lot of pain. But Father God, I thank you that, that they're able to get the surgery done, Lord. And Father God, when, when they're in pain, obviously they're going to be prescribed some medication which would be very smart to take. But would you help them to lean on you, Lord, that it's not just a medication, not just the rest that they will lean on, Lord, but really it's, it's in reading youg word, Lord, that will comfort them, that will, that will help them, Lord, to know how to endure this, this, this time, this season of getting their wisdom teeth pulled out, Lord Father God, we just pray for the dentist, Lord, and the people who are going to operate and going to remove the wisdom teeth, Lord. We just ask that the process be as pain free as possible, Lord. Chad Mahoe [00:52:36]: But we also pray for the recovery as well, Lord, that they will be able to recover. They'll be able to have some time off, Lord. They'll be able to sleep well, they'll be able to take care of the gap that will be in the place of their wisdom teeth. Keep it clean. I know what that's like, Lord. So Father, we pray a blessing over them. We pray for patience, wisdom, discernment. As I think my sister works with families, consumers, management, anyone that she may face within her job site, Lord, her work. Chad Mahoe [00:53:16]: Father God, we thank you that it's not a coincidence that she's in that position, Lord. And Father God, we know that you're growing her. We know that you're expanding her influence, Lord, we just pray that she not just experiences patience, wisdom, discernment, Lord, but she experiences a confidence, Lord, that maybe she hasn't had in other jobs, maybe some. Maybe that she's, she's able to grow in her maybe influence and her leadership skills, Lord, within this job that she's going, going through right now, Lord. Father God, we pray for just the, the families, the consumers, the management, all the People that she works with, Lord, that they will be able to recognize something different about my sister. Lord, we pray a blessing over her, her job site, Lord, her co workers, anyone who may come in contact with. With her. Lord, we also pray for a friend's hip and foot pain to be healed at the points that are needed. Chad Mahoe [00:54:22]: Lord, I know that there's, there's discomfort and pain sometimes that especially in the hip, it's like every slight movement will affect it, Lord. But Father God, we pray even right now, Lord, in the miraculous name of Jesus, Lord, that maybe that hip pain and that foot pain will be totally healed, Lord, that they'll be able to maneuver and walk without pain, to be free from pain, Lord Father God, we thank you that you're the healer of all healers, Lord, and that better than any doctor, Lord, that you can heal all things, Lord Father God, I just feel like there's someone out there who is dealing with, with a loss, Lord, in some way. And I just pray for that person's heart, Lord, although it's in pain and although there's maybe a longing in some way, Lord, that would you bless them, Lord? Would you draw them nearer to you, Lord? Would you remind them of how much you love them, Lord? Would you help them to remember the times that was shared, Lord? That was a positive, Lord, and the great moments that they shared, Lord? But Father, would you just remind them that there's greater moments ahead, Lord, that there's greater things that they will accomplish, greater relationships even that they'll build, Lord. So, Father God, I just thank you for that person out there who's experiencing that. And of course, Father God, I thank you for this weekend, Lord, as we're coming up to the end of our 21 days of prayer as a church. Lord, I thank you for all the people who've been coming to church, Lord, coming and attending these 21 days of prayer. Father God, I thank you that this is what you call us to do, Lord. It's our, it's our language, it's how we speak to you, Lord. Chad Mahoe [00:56:22]: It's how we communicate with you, Lord. Father God, I just ask for a joyous time this weekend for the rest of the 21 days, Lord, and a big celebration that we'll get to share with each other on Sunday. Lord, I ask for just a great fellowship, Lord, I thank you for what you're doing at Nuhop Kapolei, Lord, how you're growing this church, Lord, and how you're growing our influence in the community and in our reach, not just in our community, Lord, but in across the state, across the world. So Father God, we just thank youk for being our God, for loving us, for caring for us. We just give youe all praise and glory, Lord. We thank youk that the prayers don't stop here, Lord, that we can pray continuously, Lord, but we thank youk for this time that we get together as a church, Lord, and to be in community and to stand with each other. So Father God, we lift you up and we thank you, Lord, in Jesus name, amen. Amen. Chad Mahoe [00:57:27]: All right. Well, thank you so much for joining us here on Thursday night. Stay tuned. Tomorrow is day 19. I think brother Sonny is going to be preaching the word. It's always great. So would you guys have a great rest of your night? We'll see you guys tomorrow. See you on this weekend. Chad Mahoe [00:57:43]: God bless you.
