You know, there's 00:00:56.399 --> 00:00:58.939 been a unique attack upon our fellowship the 00:00:58.939 --> 00:01:01.899 last six months or so, and I feel by the Spirit 00:01:01.899 --> 00:01:05.140 of God that is against gifts of the Holy Spirit. 00:01:05.900 --> 00:01:08.359 And there's been a peculiar attack against men 00:01:08.359 --> 00:01:11.319 of God that have been stepping out. What begins 00:01:11.319 --> 00:01:13.780 to happen is that there are these thoughts that 00:01:13.780 --> 00:01:16.739 come to your mind about hearing from God, if 00:01:16.739 --> 00:01:20.819 it's God, if it's your flesh, or if you are just 00:01:20.819 --> 00:01:24.120 imagining something. But I declare that's an 00:01:24.120 --> 00:01:25.700 attack from the enemy. And I'm talking about 00:01:25.700 --> 00:01:28.500 a severe assault where you feel like you should 00:01:28.500 --> 00:01:31.500 quit, back away from the gifts of the Holy Spirit. 00:01:32.180 --> 00:01:35.439 And this has been targeting many men in this 00:01:35.439 --> 00:01:38.719 auditorium today. And I declare that's from the 00:01:38.719 --> 00:01:41.700 enemy. That's straight from hell. Is 00:02:21.219 --> 00:02:24.639 this me or is this God? That's demonic and straight 00:02:24.639 --> 00:02:26.020 from hell. We're going to pray. Let's 00:03:03.560 --> 00:03:07.620 turn to Psalms chapter 23, verse 5. Frank Algretti 00:03:07.620 --> 00:03:12.419 was 64 years old. He was a meticulous pilot with 00:03:12.419 --> 00:03:15.419 more than 20 years of experience, which makes 00:03:15.419 --> 00:03:17.719 it all the more shocking to hear that he crashed 00:03:17.719 --> 00:03:22.150 his plane while he was piloting. In Iowa, cornfield, 00:03:22.210 --> 00:03:26.150 because it ran out of gas. And sadly, he died 00:03:26.150 --> 00:03:28.870 in that crash. But they begin to interview his 00:03:28.870 --> 00:03:31.889 wife after this happened. And she made the remark, 00:03:32.050 --> 00:03:35.530 like everybody has told me, he was the most cautious, 00:03:35.629 --> 00:03:38.770 safe pilot they ever knew. Sadly, his story is 00:03:38.770 --> 00:03:41.810 fairly common among pilots. The National Transportation 00:03:41.810 --> 00:03:45.669 Safety Board officials said pilots run out of 00:03:45.669 --> 00:03:48.689 gas with a freezing frequency. In the past five 00:03:48.689 --> 00:03:51.780 years, fuel exhaustion, was the cause or contributing 00:03:51.780 --> 00:03:56.939 factor in 238 plane crashes in the U .S., killing 00:03:56.939 --> 00:04:00.580 29 people. It's surprising to me, said the director 00:04:00.580 --> 00:04:04.219 of aviation safety, that there is a group of 00:04:04.219 --> 00:04:07.759 pilots who will knowingly push it, thinking I 00:04:07.759 --> 00:04:10.900 can make it the last couple of miles, and they 00:04:10.900 --> 00:04:12.740 come up short. I want to preach on this morning, 00:04:12.939 --> 00:04:15.979 emptied in the battle, out of Psalms chapter 00:04:15.979 --> 00:04:19.180 23, beginning in verse 5. He says, you prepare 00:04:19.180 --> 00:04:22.040 a table before me in the presence of my enemies. 00:04:22.779 --> 00:04:27.079 You anoint my head with oil. My cup runs over 00:04:27.079 --> 00:04:29.279 God. We're asking for your word to come alive 00:04:29.279 --> 00:04:32.560 today. Let it be more than just words. Let there 00:04:32.560 --> 00:04:36.000 be a spirit behind this message today that would 00:04:36.000 --> 00:04:38.879 stir hearts. But this spiritual 00:05:16.740 --> 00:05:21.240 longing, remember that it only signifies that 00:05:21.240 --> 00:05:24.399 it's time for a refilling. At the same time, 00:05:24.459 --> 00:05:27.959 there exists within our nature the desire to 00:05:27.959 --> 00:05:31.360 push things to the limit, to go as far as we 00:05:31.360 --> 00:05:34.639 can go on empty, and we begin to cover up our 00:05:34.639 --> 00:05:37.980 emptiness and act like everything is just fine. 00:05:38.160 --> 00:05:41.720 Consider Naomi. The Bible tells us that she left 00:05:41.720 --> 00:05:46.240 the house of God full. Her tank was full when 00:05:46.240 --> 00:05:49.540 she journeyed into Moab, and the Bible says that 00:05:49.540 --> 00:05:52.079 she did not come back home again until she was 00:05:52.079 --> 00:05:56.019 empty. It was a broken and destitute Naomi who 00:05:56.019 --> 00:05:58.680 finally began to limp back into the house of 00:05:58.680 --> 00:06:01.519 God. Surely there were times during her trip 00:06:01.519 --> 00:06:05.079 in Moab that she recognized that she needed to 00:06:05.079 --> 00:06:08.459 go home, where she thought, I need to get back 00:06:08.459 --> 00:06:12.029 into the presence of God. My spirit is getting 00:06:12.029 --> 00:06:16.490 depleted. My soul is running empty and I need 00:06:16.490 --> 00:06:20.649 a refilling. But somehow she pushes it off. The 00:06:20.649 --> 00:06:24.189 Bible says that her husband dies. Her heart is 00:06:24.189 --> 00:06:27.649 pulled down now into sorrow and there came a 00:06:27.649 --> 00:06:31.209 longing to return home. But somehow in that moment, 00:06:31.269 --> 00:06:34.730 knowing she needed to do this, she begins to 00:06:34.730 --> 00:06:38.410 ignore it. As she stayed in Moab, she continued 00:06:38.410 --> 00:06:41.360 to run on empty. And I'm sure she's believing 00:06:41.360 --> 00:06:44.500 things are going to get better. It's going to 00:06:44.500 --> 00:06:47.019 turn around. Finally, there's going to be some 00:06:47.019 --> 00:06:50.480 favor in my life and things are going to change 00:06:50.480 --> 00:06:53.759 for the better. But let me tell you this morning, 00:06:53.899 --> 00:06:58.000 it's dangerous to run on empty. It's a dangerous 00:06:58.000 --> 00:07:01.259 thing to ignore that longing in your soul. The 00:07:01.259 --> 00:07:04.100 Bible says that when Moab was finished with Naomi, 00:07:04.560 --> 00:07:08.019 she would go limping back into the house of God 00:07:08.019 --> 00:07:12.569 broken. She made the proclamation, I went out 00:07:12.569 --> 00:07:16.370 full, but I came home empty. Again, there was 00:07:16.370 --> 00:07:19.970 a story about a man who made this remark. My 00:07:19.970 --> 00:07:23.569 dad used to tell me that it costs more to drive 00:07:23.569 --> 00:07:26.449 on empty than it does to keep your tank full. 00:07:26.930 --> 00:07:29.509 For the longest time, I struggled to understand 00:07:29.509 --> 00:07:32.550 the concept. I would drive until I was almost 00:07:32.550 --> 00:07:37.449 empty, then put $5 in my tank and run again until 00:07:37.449 --> 00:07:40.339 I was almost empty. The problem was I had this 00:07:40.339 --> 00:07:43.819 old truck that had a faulty fuel gauge. It would 00:07:43.819 --> 00:07:46.100 stuck at a quarter of a tank and just stay there. 00:07:46.540 --> 00:07:49.639 If I wasn't careful, I'd run myself empty thinking 00:07:49.639 --> 00:07:53.220 I still had gas in the tank. It was during one 00:07:53.220 --> 00:07:56.560 of those strolls that it dawned on me. It doesn't 00:07:56.560 --> 00:07:59.199 cost me any more money to keep the tank full, 00:07:59.319 --> 00:08:03.139 but it will save me a lot of time and effort. 00:08:03.339 --> 00:08:05.540 And I've come to end the notion this morning. 00:08:06.199 --> 00:08:09.879 That it doesn't cost you anything to run on empty. 00:08:10.420 --> 00:08:12.779 That you can go through another conference just 00:08:12.779 --> 00:08:15.639 fine as you are. You can make the statement that 00:08:15.639 --> 00:08:18.899 I'm okay, I'm doing well. That you're okay, I'm 00:08:18.899 --> 00:08:21.740 okay, we're all okay. And the enemy would like 00:08:21.740 --> 00:08:24.399 to convince you that it's perfectly acceptable 00:08:24.399 --> 00:08:28.019 to conduct your life in a perpetual state of 00:08:28.019 --> 00:08:31.019 nearly empty. And in fact, we wear it like a 00:08:31.019 --> 00:08:34.480 badge of honor. Yeah, brother, I'm just grinding 00:08:34.480 --> 00:08:37.100 it out. But the question is, are you on empty? 00:08:37.820 --> 00:08:40.360 I'm here to tell you it will cost you more than 00:08:40.360 --> 00:08:43.500 you can ever imagine. The Bible records a story 00:08:43.500 --> 00:08:47.039 when King Saul sent his army into battle with 00:08:47.039 --> 00:08:49.980 a foolish vow. He declared that any man who eats 00:08:49.980 --> 00:08:52.320 anything today will pay for it with his life. 00:08:52.820 --> 00:08:56.179 And as you read on that in this battle, his son 00:08:56.179 --> 00:08:59.799 Jonathan led a victory over their foes. And as 00:08:59.799 --> 00:09:02.980 the battle begins to progress, Saul's weary army 00:09:02.980 --> 00:09:05.919 finds itself in a grove where there was honey 00:09:05.919 --> 00:09:08.240 on the ground. And as they moved through the 00:09:08.240 --> 00:09:11.860 grove, honey fell from the trees. It was a war 00:09:11.860 --> 00:09:14.480 -weary Jonathan that dipped the end of his rod 00:09:14.480 --> 00:09:18.259 in the honey and refreshed himself. And the Bible 00:09:18.259 --> 00:09:21.100 says the soldiers around him were faint. They 00:09:21.100 --> 00:09:23.360 were weary from the fighting, but they advised 00:09:23.360 --> 00:09:27.200 Jonathan of his father's command and they rebuked 00:09:27.200 --> 00:09:30.320 him for eating the honey. On hearing of his father's 00:09:30.320 --> 00:09:34.470 decree, Jonathan lamented. He said, if the people 00:09:34.470 --> 00:09:38.029 had eaten freely, there would have been a much 00:09:38.029 --> 00:09:41.690 greater victory. You see, running on empty is 00:09:41.690 --> 00:09:45.370 a dangerous place to be this morning. And I wonder 00:09:45.370 --> 00:09:48.330 if it could be heard in heaven, the sound of 00:09:48.330 --> 00:09:52.730 lamenting. Imagine God lamenting. If my people 00:09:52.730 --> 00:09:55.070 were not running on empty, there would be a much 00:09:55.070 --> 00:09:58.090 greater revival in the land. It's not what we 00:09:58.090 --> 00:10:00.669 think it is. It's not that the enemy is greater. 00:10:00.970 --> 00:10:04.110 It's not because we're on a losing side. We know 00:10:04.110 --> 00:10:06.190 the truth this morning that we are on the winning 00:10:06.190 --> 00:10:09.129 side, that God is with us, that we have the Holy 00:10:09.129 --> 00:10:12.009 Spirit, and we have the promise that we can take 00:10:12.009 --> 00:10:14.450 the land. And if that is so this morning, the 00:10:14.450 --> 00:10:20.440 issue can be that we're running on empty. And 00:10:20.440 --> 00:10:24.080 I believe only eternity can reveal the true cost 00:10:24.080 --> 00:10:27.659 of running on empty. How many spiritual opportunities 00:10:27.659 --> 00:10:31.840 are missed because we're too spiritually depleted 00:10:31.840 --> 00:10:35.899 to recognize them or we're too weary to act upon 00:10:35.899 --> 00:10:39.399 them? I've seen certain situations in the ministry 00:10:39.399 --> 00:10:43.019 to realize later that there was a great missed 00:10:43.019 --> 00:10:46.659 opportunity because they were empty, tired, and 00:10:46.659 --> 00:10:49.659 spiritually deficient. You see, when we run on 00:10:49.659 --> 00:10:53.039 empty, we keep ourselves in a perpetual state 00:10:53.039 --> 00:10:56.419 where we are destitute of spiritual power and 00:10:56.419 --> 00:10:59.600 authority. And if we lack power and authority, 00:10:59.940 --> 00:11:02.700 we're only making noise and we're not making 00:11:02.700 --> 00:11:06.379 real impact. We come and we toot the fellowship 00:11:06.379 --> 00:11:10.860 horn. But are we making impact? When the disciples 00:11:10.860 --> 00:11:14.340 failed to cast out the demon from a child, Jesus 00:11:14.340 --> 00:11:16.700 did not rebuke them for their loss of faith. 00:11:17.370 --> 00:11:19.990 He reminded them, you guys are running on empty. 00:11:20.230 --> 00:11:23.090 He told them, if you want to cast out these kinds 00:11:23.090 --> 00:11:26.830 of demons, they can only come out by prayer and 00:11:26.830 --> 00:11:30.009 by fasting. And I wonder this morning what kind 00:11:30.009 --> 00:11:33.129 of revival there would be if the church was not 00:11:33.129 --> 00:11:36.129 running on empty. So secondly, I'll look at the 00:11:36.129 --> 00:11:39.970 danger. In our text, David said, you prepare 00:11:39.970 --> 00:11:43.669 a table before me in the presence of my enemies. 00:11:44.090 --> 00:11:47.830 To be in the presence of your enemies, implies 00:11:47.830 --> 00:11:50.529 that you are right in the middle of the battle 00:11:50.529 --> 00:11:54.350 this is where we can be this morning we're fighting 00:11:54.350 --> 00:11:57.049 to do what's right we're fighting to advance 00:11:57.049 --> 00:12:00.330 we're fighting to build the work for God when 00:12:00.330 --> 00:12:04.149 a soldier is in the presence of his enemies if 00:12:04.149 --> 00:12:07.389 he eats anything at all he grabs a quick meal 00:12:07.389 --> 00:12:10.710 and he goes back to fighting so maybe this is 00:12:10.710 --> 00:12:13.909 where the problem can be found We tend to get 00:12:13.909 --> 00:12:17.289 so engaged in the fight that we fail to maintain 00:12:17.289 --> 00:12:20.649 our walk with God. And I still believe this morning 00:12:20.649 --> 00:12:24.529 many failures that happen in the ministry can 00:12:24.529 --> 00:12:27.090 be traced back to not maintaining our personal 00:12:27.090 --> 00:12:30.570 walk with God. We come this morning, yes, we 00:12:30.570 --> 00:12:32.409 know that. Yeah, preaching in the choir. But 00:12:32.409 --> 00:12:35.509 are you doing it? It's not an issue of standards 00:12:35.509 --> 00:12:39.149 or theology. It's an issue of having fresh life 00:12:39.149 --> 00:12:41.649 that comes from a fresh relationship with God. 00:12:42.220 --> 00:12:45.360 Like Martha, we're so busy in the kitchen that 00:12:45.360 --> 00:12:48.179 we neglect the better thing. That's to be in 00:12:48.179 --> 00:12:51.299 the presence of Jesus. What's the point of coming 00:12:51.299 --> 00:12:54.000 to conference if we're not in the presence of 00:12:54.000 --> 00:12:56.980 Jesus? It's not just a fellowship here. It's 00:12:56.980 --> 00:12:59.820 not just a talk. But we have come because we 00:12:59.820 --> 00:13:02.460 are engaging the spirit of God. We're engaging 00:13:02.460 --> 00:13:04.419 the spirit of our fellowship. And we want to 00:13:04.419 --> 00:13:08.240 take that back with us. There's so much that 00:13:08.240 --> 00:13:11.980 needs to be done. But how can we reach the world 00:13:11.980 --> 00:13:15.940 when we're depleted? If we're not careful, we 00:13:15.940 --> 00:13:18.639 can leave the most important thing undone, and 00:13:18.639 --> 00:13:21.460 that is our daily walk with God. Listen to what 00:13:21.460 --> 00:13:24.539 David says. He says, in the presence of my enemy, 00:13:24.720 --> 00:13:28.379 right in the middle of the battle, you prepare 00:13:28.379 --> 00:13:32.240 a table. Keep in mind that this is not a rushed 00:13:32.240 --> 00:13:36.600 event. This isn't fast food. This isn't in and 00:13:36.600 --> 00:13:40.659 out. This isn't an on -the -go remedy. He says, 00:13:40.659 --> 00:13:44.519 you prepare. This is like a server that's unfolding 00:13:44.519 --> 00:13:48.279 a tablecloth and preparing a feast on a large 00:13:48.279 --> 00:13:52.600 banquet table. Nothing is left undone. Nothing 00:13:52.600 --> 00:13:55.879 is hurried. There is no confusion. There is no 00:13:55.879 --> 00:13:58.919 disturbances. The imagery that comes to mind, 00:13:59.039 --> 00:14:04.559 the enemy's at the door. God prepares a table 00:14:04.559 --> 00:14:08.519 for his people to take of his blessings. As if 00:14:08.519 --> 00:14:12.899 they are in perfect peace in that moment. David 00:14:12.899 --> 00:14:16.100 implies there's a banquet feast to be had in 00:14:16.100 --> 00:14:19.840 the middle of the battle. So maybe this is why 00:14:19.840 --> 00:14:23.080 the scripture speaks of a peace that surpasses 00:14:23.080 --> 00:14:26.539 all understanding. Because in our natural state 00:14:26.539 --> 00:14:29.720 of mind, this does not make sense. How can this 00:14:29.720 --> 00:14:32.419 be? That right in the middle of my struggle, 00:14:32.500 --> 00:14:35.320 right in the heat of battle, there's refreshing 00:14:35.320 --> 00:14:38.779 and it's reserved for those. that will but seek 00:14:38.779 --> 00:14:41.379 it. We know this morning that taking breaks, 00:14:41.559 --> 00:14:45.379 they're necessary and important. This can come 00:14:45.379 --> 00:14:48.740 by vacations or breaks away from the ministry, 00:14:48.899 --> 00:14:52.000 but this account this morning gives us some important 00:14:52.000 --> 00:14:56.299 clues. What is that? The Spirit of God within 00:14:56.299 --> 00:14:59.899 you is renewable. Romans chapter 12 verse 2. 00:14:59.960 --> 00:15:02.019 Be not conformed to this world but be transformed 00:15:02.019 --> 00:15:05.919 by the renewing of our mind. It tells us very 00:15:05.919 --> 00:15:09.200 clearly how this can be done. We have to change 00:15:09.200 --> 00:15:11.860 the way that we think and that can only happen 00:15:11.860 --> 00:15:15.159 by the Spirit of God coming into our life day 00:15:15.159 --> 00:15:19.000 after day after day only as we choose to engage 00:15:19.000 --> 00:15:23.500 the Holy Spirit and seek Him out every day. This 00:15:23.500 --> 00:15:26.340 world will drain you. We know that living for 00:15:26.340 --> 00:15:31.179 God is an uphill battle in this generation. The 00:15:31.179 --> 00:15:33.879 struggles and the battles of life, it will suck 00:15:33.879 --> 00:15:37.340 your soul dry. Yes, it's important to take breaks. 00:15:37.659 --> 00:15:41.179 What's even more crucial is that we find our 00:15:41.179 --> 00:15:45.399 way into the presence of God and to make sure 00:15:45.399 --> 00:15:49.399 that our mind is renewed. You know this morning 00:15:49.399 --> 00:15:52.740 that your walk with God, it requires a regular 00:15:52.740 --> 00:15:56.279 daily renewal. Thank God that you were saved 00:15:56.279 --> 00:16:01.899 in 1980, 1970, 1990. But what about today? If 00:16:01.899 --> 00:16:03.980 all we do is talk about what God did yesterday 00:16:03.980 --> 00:16:06.340 and we're depleted today, where are we going 00:16:06.340 --> 00:16:10.659 to go? Right in the middle of our battle, we 00:16:10.659 --> 00:16:13.620 need to keep contending. A lot of our struggles 00:16:13.620 --> 00:16:16.539 are not what we think they are. And one of the greatest tragedies of 00:26:34.309 --> 00:26:37.349 scripture is that the five foolish virgins, they 00:26:37.349 --> 00:26:40.950 fell short in the crucial hour when the bridegroom 00:26:40.950 --> 00:26:43.650 returned. Have you ever stopped and thought about 00:26:43.650 --> 00:26:47.730 that? What went horribly wrong to keep the five 00:26:47.730 --> 00:26:50.799 virgins from the wedding feast? Remember, they're 00:26:50.799 --> 00:26:53.140 still clean. They're still virgins. They kept 00:26:53.140 --> 00:26:56.259 themselves unspotted from the world. They're 00:26:56.259 --> 00:26:59.420 still separated. What could possibly be their 00:26:59.420 --> 00:27:03.559 sin? Matthew chapter 25, verse 3. They that were 00:27:03.559 --> 00:27:08.259 foolish took their lamps and took no oil with 00:27:08.259 --> 00:27:12.119 them. Their biggest flaw, the one thing that 00:27:12.119 --> 00:27:15.680 kept them from heaven's open door, was the simple 00:27:15.680 --> 00:27:19.539 fact that they were empty. When the shout came, 00:27:20.140 --> 00:27:22.619 When the bridegroom had returned in that moment, 00:27:22.779 --> 00:27:25.579 they hurried to trim their wigs and to light 00:27:25.579 --> 00:27:28.779 their fire. It was the moment they had prepared their 00:27:41.900 --> 00:27:46.119 lives for. And when it finally arrived, they 00:27:46.119 --> 00:27:49.339 discovered. They didn't have enough fuel for 00:27:49.339 --> 00:27:53.539 the journey. What a tragedy to give your entire 00:27:53.539 --> 00:27:57.079 life for that special moment and then lose out 00:27:57.079 --> 00:27:59.779 at the end.
