While Apple never officially confirmed that it was working on a headset, there have been rumors about it for the better part of a decade. Finally, the Apple Vision Pro is here. Apple’s Vision Pro is Apple’s long-awaited headset set to launch on February 2nd, with pre-orders available as of today. It uses two Apple chips and supports 2 hours of general use. It also uses hand and eye tracking and responds to voice commands. The device is capable of both Virtual and Augmented Reality, which you can switch between. And if you choose to, you can make the headset display your eyes in the front so the person you’re talking to can see them. Apple has also announced that the headset will come with the added feature of a Guest Mode, allowing your friends to log on as “guest users” to try the headset without needing to set up an account. Of course, this is a feature that most other headsets also offer. In Mark Gurman’s latest Power On newsletter for Bloomberg, he says that customers who have prescriptions will be able to have prescription lenses on their headsets. When the customer goes into the Apple Store, Gurman says, their lenses will be scanned in order to find their prescription and then the Apple Store employees will help them choose one of the “hundreds” of lenses that will be available on-site. Employees will also scan the customers’ faces to pick out the light seal for the headset. Additionally, employees will teach customers how to use the headset, including how to properly handle it. Preorders can also be made online using the iPhone or iPad’s face-scanning feature. I will be providing updates on Apple’s Vision Pro as additional information emerges. Until then, thank you for listening to the Old and the New, and see you next episode.
