Last Thursday, YouTube announced new AI-powered tools at their annual Made on YouTube event. This shift to AI-powered tools is not surprising, as over the last year, the market for AI-powered creator tools has exploded. Additionally, YouTube’s parent company, Google is already pouring substantial amounts of resources into its generative AI systems. These newest updates feature 5 new tools, including Dream Screen, AI insights, and Assistive Search in Creator Music. Dream Screen is an experimental new feature that can be used to create AI-generated image or video backgrounds for YouTube Shorts. This allows creators to type prompts to generate backgrounds. However, YouTube hopes to eventually allow creators to use AI tools to remix and edit their existing content. As for the feature AI Insights, creators can use it to create video ideas and outlines based on what their audience is watching. Assistive Search in Creator Music is another AI-powered tool that can suggest music for creators to use based on their video scripts. But that’s not all. Earlier this year, the company brought in a team from Aloud, which is an AI-based dubbing service from Google’s Area 120 incubator. And after months of waiting, the service was finally announced in this year’s Made on YouTube event. Aloud is an AI-powered tool that allows creators to dub their videos in different languages. As Mia Sato, a platforms and communities reporter at The Verge wrote, “The slew of new AI-powered YouTube products could mark a shift in how creators plan, make, and structure their content.” The trend so far across various social media platforms has had AI-generated content growing more and more common.
