3
00:00:16,740 --> 00:00:20,820
and working in some bullshit

4
00:00:20,820 --> 00:00:29,400
Hello my name is Kishan Kruxy Sims and I am a victim slash survivor of medical negligence.

5
00:00:29,400 --> 00:00:41,400
What is medical negligence? Medical negligence is when you rely on the help from medical staff to help you and instead they abuse their power.

6
00:00:41,400 --> 00:00:53,400
I was sent to a hospital with anaphylactic reaction from a restaurant. Within my first 24 hours I was sent to the ICU because the allergic reaction was so bad.

7
00:00:53,400 --> 00:01:02,400
Now granted the restaurant had a velvet broth which is what caused me to have anaphylactic reaction which is the worst anaphylactic reaction you could ever have.

8
00:01:02,400 --> 00:01:05,400
So you know there's that.

9
00:01:05,400 --> 00:01:12,400
My first overnight nurse was a male nurse. He abuses power while inspecting my body.

10
00:01:12,400 --> 00:01:17,400
Instead of doing the proper inspection of my body all he did was pierce my private parts.

11
00:01:17,400 --> 00:01:30,400
Obviously they made me feel extremely uncomfortable and I said something to help prevent anybody else from going through the same thing that I may have gone through experiencing the uncomfortableness and now trust issues that have been presented to me.

12
00:01:30,400 --> 00:01:37,400
During this I said something in my law and medical staff had to say something which opened up an investigation.

13
00:01:37,400 --> 00:01:51,400
After that part of the nurses were extremely upset, pissed off and annoyed that I said something because now everybody is under a microscope and obviously the investigation is investigating everybody.

14
00:01:51,400 --> 00:02:11,400
Due to this the medical staff I believe retaliated but they begin to no longer listen to any cries for help. They begin to no longer listen to simple things that we explained, different things in regards to my stay at the hospital.

15
00:02:11,400 --> 00:02:26,400
After this I eventually had a stroke under the care of this medical staff. When I explained that again it went by the way of saying nobody cared.

16
00:02:26,400 --> 00:02:51,400
When I explained how I was so concerned and confused on what was going on with my body and why I couldn't lift my left arm or lift my left leg I was told I was crazy which again is just a complete disregard of my emotions and my feelings and my confusion on how I walked into this hospital and now while I'm in this hospital I'm not able to use a part of my body.

17
00:02:51,400 --> 00:03:06,400
It was not a mental issue, it was complete medical negligence on the fact that nobody was listening to me due to the fact that I said something about the first nurse.

18
00:03:06,400 --> 00:03:21,400
The reason I said something is I was completely aware in the ICU but imagine the patient male or female that's not aware who's in the ICU and anything could happen to their body while they're in the ICU.

19
00:03:21,400 --> 00:03:44,400
That's why I said something. Outside of my own personal discomfort I don't know how many other people were in the ICU who weren't fully aware and that same nurse told me I should put my items and lock them up and away because when they put the stuff behind me I couldn't see and you just don't know what could happen.

20
00:03:44,400 --> 00:03:58,400
Meaning people could steal from you while you're in the hospital. Those were his exact words. Now if he's telling me I should put my things away because he works there and he feels uncomfortable with personal belongings.

21
00:03:58,400 --> 00:04:19,400
Imagine what could happen to somebody who's completely unaware and not conscious. So medical negligence is more than just a power trip. Medical negligence is complete disregard to a human which is inhumane.

22
00:04:19,400 --> 00:04:35,400
We rely on the medical staff to give us our medicine. We rely on the medical staff to make sure we're okay emotionally. We rely on the medical staff to allow us when we are discharged to be better than we were when we came into the hospital.

23
00:04:35,400 --> 00:04:50,400
That was not my experience. I left the hospital in worse condition than I came in. I came in wheezing and not being able to breathe properly which is what's sitting to the ICU.

24
00:04:50,400 --> 00:05:05,400
But during that I ended up having a stroke, losing the mobility to the left side of my body, sitting in my pee for an hour, having calls when I pressed the nice button, completely ignored.

25
00:05:05,400 --> 00:05:24,400
And then it tried to discharge me to try to figure it out on my own without being able to use the left side of my body despite the fact that I explained that the IV's burned even when just saline, just the salt water was put into it.

26
00:05:24,400 --> 00:05:35,400
Then eventually I was forced out of the hospital because there was nothing else we could do, pretty much forcing me to leave with nurses picking me up and putting me into an Uber because I couldn't walk.

27
00:05:35,400 --> 00:05:52,400
We will check now to hire the lift driver that they hired, have to carry me to my front door.

28
00:05:52,400 --> 00:06:06,400
I think it is not okay to put so much power into certain individuals who can abuse that power.

29
00:06:06,400 --> 00:06:20,400
I think there needs to somehow be a better system at play where the hospital allows outside people to come and check on the patients mentally and emotionally.

30
00:06:20,400 --> 00:06:30,400
Because the fact that the hospital and the medical staff could have so much power over somebody's life is scary.

31
00:06:30,400 --> 00:06:49,400
It's very scary because being in that experience myself, I didn't know if I was going to make it out alive.

32
00:06:49,400 --> 00:07:05,400
And to just know...

33
00:07:05,400 --> 00:07:22,400
And to just know that there are people who didn't because the medical staff either didn't fight hard enough or the medical staff didn't listen.

34
00:07:22,400 --> 00:07:40,400
When a patient said something was wrong, it's hurtful because I was once that patient.

35
00:07:40,400 --> 00:07:56,400
I think that we as a people need to do something to help combat medical negligence because it's painful.

36
00:07:56,400 --> 00:08:04,400
How many of my own family members have passed away in a hospital?

37
00:08:04,400 --> 00:08:20,400
The last family member that was in the hospital before I was in the hospital myself due to an epileptic reaction literally said that she wanted to get out of the hospital because she felt like they were trying to kill her.

38
00:08:20,400 --> 00:08:23,400
And then she passed away.

39
00:08:23,400 --> 00:08:31,400
And then I went to the hospital and I experienced the same thing.

40
00:08:31,400 --> 00:08:52,400
I honestly feel like the only thing that saved me is the fact that a few of the medical staff were aware of my social media presence and knew that I was a social media influencer.

41
00:08:52,400 --> 00:09:04,400
And I feel like that's the only reason I was able to continue to be alive from the hospital.

42
00:09:04,400 --> 00:09:17,400
Now the part that is hurtful and scary to me is what about the people who don't have a platform?

43
00:09:17,400 --> 00:09:45,400
What about the people who are just your quote unquote wealthy people who don't have thousands and thousands of followers on Instagram or any social platform who went through the same things that I went through and tried to stand up and advocate for themselves while going through the pain and nobody cared?

44
00:09:45,400 --> 00:10:00,400
It was so bad to the point where they didn't allow me to charge my phone because they didn't want me to communicate with the outside world which is already alarming because it's like what are you all trying to hide?

45
00:10:00,400 --> 00:10:28,400
And the first thing I did when I was able to charge my phone because someone allowed me to keep running the charges to be able to communicate was I started reaching out to lawyers which outside of my social media presence I believe that truly is what saved me is because now I have explained to different people what's going on and I'm not just dealing with it by myself.

46
00:10:28,400 --> 00:10:50,400
I don't think that it's okay that for people in power to abuse their power that can be hurtful and detrimental to other people's lives so much to the point where it could end up in death.

47
00:10:50,400 --> 00:11:08,400
That's not okay. It's uncalled for and we have to do something about it. Now my question is what can we do about it? I personally don't fully know at this point which is why I'm coming here and making this video.

48
00:11:08,400 --> 00:11:34,400
So we as a community can come up with the answers to help fight back against medical negligence especially against what they consider minorities. Women, people of color, Spanish people, disabled people.

49
00:11:34,400 --> 00:11:55,400
I checked off every single one of those boxes. I'm a woman. I'm a woman of color. I have a Spanish background. I was disabled while in the hospital.

50
00:11:55,400 --> 00:12:21,400
So even leaving the hospital I am not a policy maker. I do my research on policies. I want to know how we could help pass a law or a policy to help protect patients better against medical negligence

51
00:12:21,400 --> 00:12:44,400
and to help inform patients more of their rights as patients and how they can fight back. So please share this video, comment down below and help me come up with some ideas where we as a community and as a people can help fight back against medical negligence.

52
00:12:44,400 --> 00:13:02,400
I can't do this by myself. I don't want to do this by myself. I need the help to not just get justice for myself but to help prevent it from ever happening again to anybody else.

53
00:13:02,400 --> 00:13:21,400
Thank you for taking the time to watch this video to understand a little bit more about my story and to understand the mission behind why I'm sharing my story. I appreciate you and help me stop medical negligence.

54
00:13:21,400 --> 00:13:32,400
Thank you for watching and I'll see you in the next video. Yeah.
