It seemed like just 00:02:00.060 --> 00:02:02.680 a few weeks ago we were coming into 2025, and 00:02:02.680 --> 00:02:05.620 now we already have Palm Sunday, Good Friday, 00:02:05.799 --> 00:02:09.169 and here again, Resurrection Sunday. And last 00:02:46.599 --> 00:02:50.639 week, our sermon title was Letting God Guide 00:02:50.639 --> 00:02:53.979 You. And basically what this sermon was about 00:02:53.979 --> 00:02:57.099 was how we should be, you know, as Christians, 00:02:57.120 --> 00:02:59.439 we are to completely and fully surrender our 00:02:59.439 --> 00:03:02.639 lives to God. Right. Through that little bit 00:03:02.639 --> 00:03:05.439 of showing God that we are fully surrendered 00:03:05.439 --> 00:03:07.759 to him and committed to him, that he will take 00:03:07.759 --> 00:03:11.080 us wherever he needs to be. Right. He will eventually 00:03:11.080 --> 00:03:14.219 transform us into the men or the women he wants 00:03:14.219 --> 00:03:18.000 us to be. And continuing with that idea, you 00:03:18.000 --> 00:03:21.080 know, when we decide to give everything and completely 00:03:21.080 --> 00:03:24.379 everything surrender to God, that's when our 00:03:24.379 --> 00:03:28.139 enemy for the devil is. you know, notices that 00:03:28.139 --> 00:03:30.960 and says he can't be having any of that in our 00:03:30.960 --> 00:03:35.319 life, right? And this is exactly why we have 00:03:35.319 --> 00:03:39.219 to know our enemy. But what does that look like? 00:03:39.719 --> 00:03:42.219 It makes sense to know our enemy, right? I'm 00:03:42.219 --> 00:03:44.080 sure it's obvious if you don't know, again, our 00:03:44.080 --> 00:03:47.139 enemy is the devil, right? And again, the moment 00:03:47.139 --> 00:03:48.900 that we give our lives to God and we say that 00:03:48.900 --> 00:03:51.219 we are his, he immediately tries to find ways 00:03:51.219 --> 00:03:55.750 to get you to fall back, which is where... Like, 00:03:55.750 --> 00:03:58.669 our first point comes into the sermon. Know the 00:03:58.669 --> 00:04:02.889 enemy's game. What does this point mean? What 00:04:02.889 --> 00:04:06.669 is the enemy's game? Most sins often start with 00:04:06.669 --> 00:04:10.289 this word, temptation. Well, what is temptation? 00:04:11.050 --> 00:04:13.830 To kind of, you know, give a definition of the 00:04:13.830 --> 00:04:16.850 word, I both looked it up and gave the word, 00:04:16.970 --> 00:04:18.689 you know, a definition of the word from a biblical 00:04:18.689 --> 00:04:22.069 perspective. Now, this is from the Oxford Dictionary. 00:04:23.130 --> 00:04:25.589 basically saying, you know, it's the urge to 00:04:25.589 --> 00:04:30.129 do any action that is wrong or unwise. I find 00:04:30.129 --> 00:04:32.310 that very surprising. Now, if we look at it from 00:04:32.310 --> 00:04:35.410 a biblical perspective, it's basically the urge 00:04:35.410 --> 00:04:38.829 to do any action that goes against God's will. 00:04:39.730 --> 00:04:43.310 Now, again, I found it so surprising that even 00:04:43.310 --> 00:04:46.689 the Oxford Dictionary, the one people use, you 00:04:46.689 --> 00:04:49.720 know, that is most reliable. The Oxford Dictionary 00:04:49.720 --> 00:04:52.779 tells us even that the end result of temptation 00:04:52.779 --> 00:04:57.839 is a wrong doing. The devil looks for specific 00:04:57.839 --> 00:05:01.839 ways to our own lives and he uses those ways 00:05:01.839 --> 00:05:04.279 to tempt us off of the track that God has us 00:05:04.279 --> 00:05:08.439 on already. To be clear, just to kind of sub 00:05:08.439 --> 00:05:12.860 -point, temptation does not come from God. Nor 00:05:12.860 --> 00:05:15.439 does the devil actually make us fall into temptation. 00:05:16.060 --> 00:05:19.870 The result of temptation... sin is completely 00:05:19.870 --> 00:05:24.529 up to us right we whenever we're tempted you 00:05:24.529 --> 00:05:26.769 know we can choose to either fall into sin we 00:05:26.769 --> 00:05:28.769 can choose to call on the holy spirit and say 00:05:28.769 --> 00:05:31.250 lord help me in this time of temptation right 00:05:31.250 --> 00:05:34.449 and that's exactly what we do that's exactly 00:05:34.449 --> 00:05:37.990 what we do to get through the enemy's game well 00:05:37.990 --> 00:05:42.129 back to the point what is the enemy's game how 00:05:42.129 --> 00:05:45.540 do we know the enemy's game Well, there's this 00:05:45.540 --> 00:05:47.899 amazing thing I've been using for the past few 00:05:47.899 --> 00:05:50.480 years of my life that's called the Bible. And 00:05:50.480 --> 00:05:54.620 this Bible tells us how to know his game. Now, 00:05:54.660 --> 00:05:58.019 if you're taking notes, write down or just remember 00:05:58.019 --> 00:06:03.579 Matthew chapter 4 verses 1 through 11. Now, this 00:06:03.579 --> 00:06:04.939 is kind of a long verse, so I'm not going to 00:06:04.939 --> 00:06:07.300 read the whole thing. But basically, to summarize 00:06:07.300 --> 00:06:10.519 it in just a few sentences, this is where Jesus 00:06:10.519 --> 00:06:14.029 is being tempted in the wilderness. He's fasting 00:06:14.029 --> 00:06:16.509 in the wilderness for 40 days and 40 nights, 00:06:16.649 --> 00:06:20.449 right? In this time, Satan comes to him and he 00:06:20.449 --> 00:06:24.189 tempts him with three different things. He says, 00:06:24.350 --> 00:06:27.209 you're hungry. Make these stones bread so you 00:06:27.209 --> 00:06:30.470 can eat them. He also says, if you fall off this 00:06:30.470 --> 00:06:34.470 mountain, tell your angels to catch you, right? 00:06:34.569 --> 00:06:37.550 You're God. You can do whatever you want. I'm 00:06:37.550 --> 00:06:38.730 going to take you to this top of this mountain. 00:06:38.930 --> 00:06:40.709 And when you fall, just tell your angels to catch 00:06:40.709 --> 00:06:44.310 you. And finally, he says, if you bow down and 00:06:44.310 --> 00:06:47.569 worship me, I will make you king of all of these 00:06:47.569 --> 00:06:51.949 places. Right? These three times Satan comes 00:06:51.949 --> 00:06:54.810 to Jesus and he tempts him one thing after another. 00:06:55.009 --> 00:06:59.170 Boom, boom, boom. But Jesus is able to consistently 00:06:59.170 --> 00:07:03.970 say no, no, no. And he's able to do this because 00:07:03.970 --> 00:07:09.189 he fights back with scripture. Okay? Well, just 00:07:09.189 --> 00:07:11.589 looking at it from Jesus' perspective, to know 00:07:11.589 --> 00:07:14.290 the enemy's game, we have to know Scripture. 00:07:15.149 --> 00:07:17.829 Jesus went through some of the exact same things 00:07:17.829 --> 00:07:20.370 we did to teach us a few things in their own 00:07:20.370 --> 00:07:22.970 kind of areas. And when we're talking about temptation 00:07:22.970 --> 00:07:26.430 specifically, he fought back with Scripture. 00:07:27.930 --> 00:07:30.610 At the school, the Evangelical Christian Academy, 00:07:30.709 --> 00:07:33.670 every morning there's pledges that we do. You 00:07:33.670 --> 00:07:37.129 know, the pledge to the flag, pledges to the 00:07:37.129 --> 00:07:41.129 Bible. And, you know, a few different other pledges. 00:07:41.329 --> 00:07:43.490 But there's one specifically, and that's the 00:07:43.490 --> 00:07:46.189 Pledge of Allegiance to the Bible. And I won't 00:07:46.189 --> 00:07:47.689 say the whole thing. It's just a little bit long. 00:07:47.769 --> 00:07:50.329 But there's one part, you know, that says, I 00:07:50.329 --> 00:07:53.470 will hide God's word in my heart that I might 00:07:53.470 --> 00:07:59.089 not sin against God. Right? And I always make 00:07:59.089 --> 00:08:00.589 sure to tell these middle school, high school 00:08:00.589 --> 00:08:03.250 students that, you know, this isn't just that 00:08:03.250 --> 00:08:05.430 one thing we say every morning to get it out 00:08:05.430 --> 00:08:07.839 of the way so we can go to class. No, it's a 00:08:07.839 --> 00:08:10.180 prayer that we should be saying, not just because 00:08:10.180 --> 00:08:12.480 we've memorized it by now, but because it's a 00:08:12.480 --> 00:08:14.259 prayer that we should be saying in our hearts, 00:08:14.360 --> 00:08:18.000 right? I will hide God's word in my heart that 00:08:18.000 --> 00:08:23.560 I might not sin against him. So to know the enemy's 00:08:23.560 --> 00:08:26.259 game, we have to hide God's word in our hearts 00:08:26.259 --> 00:08:31.800 that we might not sin against him. Which kind 00:08:31.800 --> 00:08:34.799 of brings us to the next point. Know the enemy's 00:08:34.799 --> 00:08:39.220 plan for you. It's kind of confusing. Or you 00:08:39.220 --> 00:08:41.639 might be kind of shocked, surprised at this. 00:08:42.120 --> 00:08:46.440 The enemy has a plan for me. I know Jesus does. 00:08:46.620 --> 00:08:48.559 I hear about it all the time. Jesus has this 00:08:48.559 --> 00:08:52.919 great plan for my life. But the enemy does too. 00:08:53.919 --> 00:08:55.960 And again, it might be surprising, but yes, he 00:08:55.960 --> 00:08:59.639 does have a plan for you. Look at John chapter 00:08:59.639 --> 00:09:04.399 10, verse 10. The thief comes only to steal and 00:09:04.399 --> 00:09:09.360 kill and destroy. You know, the Bible in this 00:09:09.360 --> 00:09:11.879 verse specifically describes the enemy as a thief. 00:09:12.779 --> 00:09:18.519 Right? And it says the word only. Right? Because 00:09:18.519 --> 00:09:21.960 he only comes to steal, to kill, and to destroy. 00:09:22.379 --> 00:09:27.399 Only to do this. I know it might seem a little, 00:09:27.500 --> 00:09:29.919 you know, hard to tell the difference sometimes. 00:09:30.559 --> 00:09:33.500 Especially now, he's kind of, Satan's kind of 00:09:33.500 --> 00:09:37.100 gotten a hold of so many hearts, so many... mindsets 00:09:37.100 --> 00:09:40.580 right but he only comes to do these three things 00:09:40.580 --> 00:09:44.019 he doesn't come and try to have a relationship 00:09:44.019 --> 00:09:47.059 with you he doesn't come to try and give us the 00:09:47.059 --> 00:09:50.299 attention that no one else brings he doesn't 00:09:50.299 --> 00:09:53.580 come because he so -called cares about us he 00:09:53.580 --> 00:09:59.860 comes only to steal to kill and to destroy and 00:09:59.860 --> 00:10:02.679 it's in this order very specifically for a reason 00:10:02.679 --> 00:10:08.220 right steal He comes to steal our thoughts. He 00:10:08.220 --> 00:10:11.500 steals our actions. Main point, he steals any 00:10:11.500 --> 00:10:16.960 idea of God in our life, right? After he steals 00:10:16.960 --> 00:10:20.259 it, what comes next? Kill. After he steals any 00:10:20.259 --> 00:10:22.960 part of God in our life, he kills it, right? 00:10:23.100 --> 00:10:27.000 He says, oh, there's God in his life. I have 00:10:27.000 --> 00:10:29.860 it now and I'm going to kill that idea, right? 00:10:30.019 --> 00:10:31.700 Well, you might kind of think to yourself, doesn't 00:10:31.700 --> 00:10:35.620 kill and destroy mean the same thing? Yes, but 00:10:35.620 --> 00:10:38.919 no at the same time, right? He has our thoughts. 00:10:39.080 --> 00:10:42.879 He has any idea of God in our life. And all he 00:10:42.879 --> 00:10:45.620 has to do next is kill that. He kills anything 00:10:45.620 --> 00:10:49.379 that has to do with God in our lives. Any sense 00:10:49.379 --> 00:10:52.519 of direction, any sense of praise, of glory and 00:10:52.519 --> 00:10:56.779 honor to him. He kills it completely so we can 00:10:56.779 --> 00:11:01.720 completely turn away from God, right? Then what 00:11:01.720 --> 00:11:05.149 comes next? Destroy. Once he kills and takes 00:11:05.149 --> 00:11:08.169 Jesus out of our lives, all he has to do then 00:11:08.169 --> 00:11:12.690 is destroy us. Right? This is eventually where 00:11:12.690 --> 00:11:15.250 he destroys our life. And eventually, he probably 00:11:15.250 --> 00:11:22.070 does kill us. Right? Now, if you know me, or 00:11:22.070 --> 00:11:24.870 if you don't know me, because most of you don't, 00:11:24.870 --> 00:11:29.830 but I wonder a lot. Right? I think a lot on a 00:11:29.830 --> 00:11:32.519 lot of things. Whether they're good, whether 00:11:32.519 --> 00:11:35.320 they're bad. But I also think a lot about this 00:11:35.320 --> 00:11:38.399 question. And I kind of want you to ask it to 00:11:38.399 --> 00:11:41.919 yourselves. Whether you're at home, maybe you're 00:11:41.919 --> 00:11:43.519 driving on the way to work, maybe to school. 00:11:43.879 --> 00:11:46.419 Whether you're just sitting down in the living 00:11:46.419 --> 00:11:49.860 room, wherever you're at. Just reflect just for 00:11:49.860 --> 00:11:53.480 a minute. Does the devil have your thoughts? 00:11:55.399 --> 00:11:57.779 Or maybe a better question, who has your thoughts? 00:11:59.259 --> 00:12:03.799 Right? Who has them? Because if it's God, that's 00:12:03.799 --> 00:12:06.860 great. I encourage you to keep doing more in 00:12:06.860 --> 00:12:08.720 your relationship with God and how to faithfully 00:12:08.720 --> 00:12:13.820 serve him. But if it's the devil, right? We already 00:12:13.820 --> 00:12:16.539 know his plan for us. His plan is to steal our 00:12:16.539 --> 00:12:20.139 thoughts, to kill them, and to destroy us. Does 00:12:20.139 --> 00:12:23.340 he have your thoughts? If he has your thoughts, 00:12:23.440 --> 00:12:28.889 has he killed any idea of God in your life? Right? 00:12:28.929 --> 00:12:31.169 Because if he's done that second part, you already 00:12:31.169 --> 00:12:34.710 know what comes next. Right? Destruction. He 00:12:34.710 --> 00:12:41.889 destroys. But, the next part of this verse, John 00:12:41.889 --> 00:12:46.649 10 .10, explains Jesus. And I did this intentionally. 00:12:47.590 --> 00:12:52.950 John 10 .10 says, The thief comes only to steal 00:12:52.950 --> 00:12:57.570 and kill and destroy. And it doesn't stop there. 00:12:57.610 --> 00:13:00.909 It continues. It says, I have come that they 00:13:00.909 --> 00:13:05.470 may have life and have it to the full. Read the 00:13:05.470 --> 00:13:08.129 letters. This is what Jesus is saying. I have 00:13:08.129 --> 00:13:11.470 come that they may have life and that they may 00:13:11.470 --> 00:13:14.429 have life to the full. Which kind of brings us 00:13:14.429 --> 00:13:17.389 to the last point of the sermon. Know the one 00:13:17.389 --> 00:13:23.190 who comes to give life. The devil might come 00:13:23.190 --> 00:13:25.960 to steal you. I'm not even going to say might. 00:13:26.080 --> 00:13:29.179 The devil will try to come and steal you. He 00:13:29.179 --> 00:13:32.039 will try to come to kill you and eventually to 00:13:32.039 --> 00:13:36.100 destroy you. But Jesus comes so that way you 00:13:36.100 --> 00:13:39.840 may have life. And that you will have it to the 00:13:39.840 --> 00:13:44.720 full. I mentioned... Matthew chapter 4, those 00:13:44.720 --> 00:13:48.200 first few 11 verses, not only because it was 00:13:48.200 --> 00:13:50.440 when Jesus was tempted and it, you know, provides 00:13:50.440 --> 00:13:52.919 an example to do when the devil, you know, has 00:13:52.919 --> 00:13:56.480 his plans for us. But I also mentioned this because 00:13:56.480 --> 00:14:00.019 when we read scripture, we're not only fighting 00:14:00.019 --> 00:14:03.279 back against the enemy and his thoughts and his 00:14:03.279 --> 00:14:07.139 plan for our lives. But also through this reading 00:14:07.139 --> 00:14:10.759 and knowing scripture, we come closer and closer 00:14:10.759 --> 00:14:15.799 to Jesus. We come closer and closer to that life 00:14:15.799 --> 00:14:18.980 that he speaks of. We come closer and closer 00:14:18.980 --> 00:14:24.080 to the life that he promises us, right? That 00:14:24.080 --> 00:14:30.179 life full of blessings, of fulfillment, right? 00:14:30.240 --> 00:14:32.539 Pretty soon that life that we had before that 00:14:32.539 --> 00:14:35.620 was stolen, killed, hopefully not destroyed, 00:14:35.759 --> 00:14:42.129 is completely turned around, made new. There 00:14:42.129 --> 00:14:43.789 are a few other verses in the Bible. I don't 00:14:43.789 --> 00:14:45.389 know them off the top of my head, but to kind 00:14:45.389 --> 00:14:47.269 of give my own version, you know, it's saying 00:14:47.269 --> 00:14:50.730 how Jesus comes and we are to walk into the new 00:14:50.730 --> 00:14:52.970 life that he has for us. That we're supposed 00:14:52.970 --> 00:14:55.809 to completely leave the old one behind and walk 00:14:55.809 --> 00:15:01.529 in the new one that he has for us. Right, going 00:15:01.529 --> 00:15:04.710 back to the past sermon I was telling you about, 00:15:04.809 --> 00:15:08.110 that little sign of surrender. You know, whenever 00:15:08.110 --> 00:15:12.009 we're praying, maybe we're worshiping, right? 00:15:12.129 --> 00:15:15.129 Whatever we might be doing, I'm sure some of 00:15:15.129 --> 00:15:17.470 us might be raising our hands, whether it's just 00:15:17.470 --> 00:15:20.990 straight up in the sky, both hands, maybe it's 00:15:20.990 --> 00:15:23.909 just one, maybe it's two, just off to the side 00:15:23.909 --> 00:15:27.190 of your body, right? But that little hand gesture 00:15:27.190 --> 00:15:30.629 that we do is a little sign of surrendering, 00:15:30.649 --> 00:15:34.220 right? It's showing God that we... Completely 00:15:34.220 --> 00:15:36.720 surrender to him. We completely surrender to 00:15:36.720 --> 00:15:40.740 the plan that he has for us. Right? And it goes 00:15:40.740 --> 00:15:45.500 a long way. That little sign of God, I surrender 00:15:45.500 --> 00:15:50.379 to you, takes us from the old life that we had 00:15:50.379 --> 00:15:53.700 and again walking into the new one that he promises 00:15:53.700 --> 00:16:01.259 us. Write down Romans 10, 9 through 10. Chapter 00:16:01.259 --> 00:16:05.200 10. Verses 9 and 10. If you declare with your 00:16:05.200 --> 00:16:08.580 mouth, Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart 00:16:08.580 --> 00:16:11.139 that God raised him from the dead, you will be 00:16:11.139 --> 00:16:14.279 saved. For it is with your heart that you believe 00:16:14.279 --> 00:16:17.360 and are justified, and it is with your mouth 00:16:17.360 --> 00:16:23.179 that you profess your faith and are saved. I 00:16:23.179 --> 00:16:25.899 know Jesus has this plan for us. Even the devil 00:16:25.899 --> 00:16:28.679 has this plan for us. But even if we just declare 00:16:28.679 --> 00:16:33.450 with our mouths, Jesus is Lord. He is king, and 00:16:33.450 --> 00:16:36.809 we firmly and understandably believe that with 00:16:36.809 --> 00:16:40.769 our hearts, we will be saved. That Jesus was 00:16:40.769 --> 00:16:46.309 raised from the dead, we will be saved.
