Let's dive right in, shall we? 00:00:32.509 --> 00:00:35.549 So let's go ahead. Let's open our Bibles to 2 00:00:35.549 --> 00:00:41.429 Corinthians 3 7 -11. Again, that's 2 Corinthians 00:00:41.429 --> 00:00:47.689 3 7 -11. And Paul writes, But if the ministry 00:00:47.689 --> 00:00:52.159 of death... written and engraved on stones, was 00:00:52.159 --> 00:00:55.579 glorious, so that the children of Israel could 00:00:55.579 --> 00:00:59.119 not look steadily at the face of Moses because 00:00:59.119 --> 00:01:01.939 of the glory of his countenance, which glory 00:01:01.939 --> 00:01:06.640 was passing away, how will the ministry of the 00:01:06.640 --> 00:01:10.299 Spirit not be more glorious? For the ministry 00:01:10.299 --> 00:01:15.439 of condemnation had glory. the ministry of righteousness 00:01:15.439 --> 00:01:21.180 exceeds much more in glory. For even what was 00:01:21.180 --> 00:01:25.040 made glorious had no glory in this respect, because 00:01:25.040 --> 00:01:30.079 the glory that excels. Here, Paul's talking about the stones 00:01:38.079 --> 00:01:41.400 on which the old covenant was written. This was 00:01:41.400 --> 00:01:46.329 written law. It was written law. And Paul, what 00:01:46.329 --> 00:01:48.909 he's referring to here, well, he's referring 00:01:48.909 --> 00:01:53.329 to it as the ministry of death. He wasn't referring 00:01:53.329 --> 00:01:56.090 to a wrestling tag team here. No, no, no, no, 00:01:56.109 --> 00:01:59.150 no. As cool of a tag team name as that would 00:01:59.150 --> 00:02:04.390 probably be in that realm, that's not what he's 00:02:04.390 --> 00:02:06.829 talking about. He's talking about a gift from 00:02:06.829 --> 00:02:09.789 God. So why is he calling something that's a 00:02:09.789 --> 00:02:12.409 gift from God, why is he calling something so 00:02:12.409 --> 00:02:15.599 dark? Well, it's because people took something 00:02:15.599 --> 00:02:19.580 that was meant to bring glory to all and turned 00:02:19.580 --> 00:02:23.860 it into something legalistic. You have to do 00:02:23.860 --> 00:02:26.759 this. You have to do that. When the moon is full 00:02:26.759 --> 00:02:29.800 and raised 45 degrees above the nearest mountain 00:02:29.800 --> 00:02:33.199 on the 33rd night and the coyote howls, you do 00:02:33.199 --> 00:02:35.740 this and spin around five times, but not too 00:02:35.740 --> 00:02:38.180 fast and not too slow. Some of the best things you'll find, 00:03:19.439 --> 00:03:22.120 put it all out there for you to see front and 00:03:22.120 --> 00:03:26.039 center. And that's what God was doing here. God's 00:03:26.039 --> 00:03:29.659 glorious writing to people in love. Not something 00:03:29.659 --> 00:03:32.560 to pull apart, not something to nitpick. He was 00:03:32.560 --> 00:03:36.840 laying out what it is to love. How to live in 00:03:36.840 --> 00:03:41.759 the spirit. You know, we've all heard, and I 00:03:41.759 --> 00:03:46.439 probably said the phrase, in the spirit of. It 00:03:46.439 --> 00:03:51.199 means something. It means that it is consistent 00:03:51.199 --> 00:03:54.180 with the intention, right? We're going to do 00:03:54.180 --> 00:03:56.219 things in the spirit of this or the spirit of 00:03:56.219 --> 00:04:01.879 that, right? And here, God, God's speaking directly 00:04:01.879 --> 00:04:06.240 to his people. And he's intervening in their 00:04:06.240 --> 00:04:10.960 lives in order to show them how they needed to 00:04:10.960 --> 00:04:14.639 actually be living. And he's still doing it today. 00:04:15.479 --> 00:04:24.160 His love for his people is so, so great that 00:04:24.160 --> 00:04:26.319 he's telling us just like he's telling them. 00:04:27.019 --> 00:04:29.819 That we're messing up. But as amazing as 00:05:38.240 --> 00:05:40.379 the law of Moses was, and that's what this is 00:05:40.379 --> 00:05:43.839 referred to, is the law of Moses, and really 00:05:43.839 --> 00:05:49.920 it still is today, pales in comparison it falls 00:05:49.920 --> 00:05:54.040 short when we compare it to the lives of people 00:05:54.040 --> 00:05:58.740 who live a life that is empowered by the holy 00:05:58.740 --> 00:06:03.920 spirit the holy spirit who dwells within the 00:06:03.920 --> 00:06:08.100 temple that is every believer the holy spirit 00:06:08.100 --> 00:06:12.319 who has been there since the very beginning Turning 00:06:12.319 --> 00:06:15.500 back to Genesis 1, verse 2, the word says, The 00:06:15.500 --> 00:06:19.600 earth was without form and void, and darkness 00:06:19.600 --> 00:06:24.740 was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of 00:06:24.740 --> 00:06:30.360 God was hovering over the face of the waters. 00:06:30.939 --> 00:06:33.800 The Holy Spirit, who was there at the very beginning, 00:06:34.269 --> 00:06:37.490 and involved in the creation of life. So 00:06:52.149 --> 00:06:57.009 Acts 11, 17, the word says, Therefore, all right, 00:06:57.009 --> 00:06:59.329 remember, if there, therefore, we don't forget 00:06:59.329 --> 00:07:02.490 about what's been talked about before. It all 00:07:02.490 --> 00:07:05.350 falls in line here. So if therefore God gave 00:07:05.350 --> 00:07:09.930 him the same gift as he gave us when we believed 00:07:09.930 --> 00:07:17.230 on the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I that I could 00:07:17.230 --> 00:07:22.209 withstand God? The Holy Spirit, God who dwells 00:07:22.209 --> 00:07:26.149 in us, working and molding us into better people, 00:07:26.370 --> 00:07:30.899 transforming us into a more Christ -like people 00:07:30.899 --> 00:07:36.540 guiding us now before it's too late so that we 00:07:36.540 --> 00:07:42.819 can be reunited with the Father. We're going to 00:08:00.620 --> 00:08:03.720 go back to Exodus. So let's turn back to Exodus 00:08:03.720 --> 00:08:09.139 chapter 34, verses 29 through 35. So Exodus 34, 00:08:09.500 --> 00:08:19.319 29 through 35. The word says, Now it was so when 00:08:19.319 --> 00:08:22.939 Moses came down from Mount Sinai and the two 00:08:22.939 --> 00:08:25.259 tablets of the testimony were in Moses' hand. 00:08:26.000 --> 00:08:29.240 When he came down from the mountain, that Moses 00:08:29.240 --> 00:08:32.039 did not know that the skin of his face shone 00:08:32.039 --> 00:08:36.379 while he talked with him. So when Aaron and all 00:08:36.379 --> 00:08:39.279 the children of Israel saw Moses, behold, the 00:08:39.279 --> 00:08:44.279 skin of his face shone, they were afraid to come 00:08:44.279 --> 00:08:47.000 near him. Then Moses called to them, and Aaron 00:08:47.000 --> 00:08:49.340 and all the rulers of the congregation returned 00:08:49.340 --> 00:09:03.269 to him, and Moses talked with them. And when 00:09:03.269 --> 00:09:11.669 Moses had finished speaking with him, he put 00:09:11.669 --> 00:09:16.590 a veil on his face. But whenever Moses went in 00:09:16.590 --> 00:09:21.350 before the Lord to speak with him, He would take 00:09:21.350 --> 00:09:24.590 the veil off until he came out. And he would 00:09:24.590 --> 00:09:26.549 come out and speak to the children of Israel 00:09:26.549 --> 00:09:30.490 whatever he had been commanded. And whenever 00:09:30.490 --> 00:09:32.610 the children of Israel saw the face of Moses, 00:09:32.789 --> 00:09:36.850 that the skin of Moses' face shone, then Moses 00:09:36.850 --> 00:09:41.330 would put the veil on his face again until he 00:09:41.330 --> 00:09:46.029 went in to speak with him. So we start off with 00:09:46.029 --> 00:09:48.820 this. Image of Moses coming down with the slabs 00:09:48.820 --> 00:09:50.860 with the Ten Commandments written on them. You 00:09:50.860 --> 00:09:52.200 know, someone's in the back going, you know, 00:09:52.240 --> 00:09:55.659 he looks an awful lot like Charlton Heston. But 00:09:55.659 --> 00:09:58.580 seriously, Moses, he spent time in the presence 00:09:58.580 --> 00:10:01.200 of God talking and chiseling out these tablets. 00:10:01.799 --> 00:10:05.399 And because he spent time with the Lord when 00:10:05.399 --> 00:10:08.240 he came down the mountain, his face was absolutely 00:10:08.240 --> 00:10:11.980 radiant. It was like something, it's like when 00:10:11.980 --> 00:10:13.559 something really good happens to someone and 00:10:13.559 --> 00:10:17.559 they're absolutely glowing. They talk about pregnant 00:10:17.559 --> 00:10:20.940 women glowing. Or when someone gets engaged. 00:10:21.200 --> 00:10:22.840 Or certain really good things. Oh, they're absolutely 00:10:22.840 --> 00:10:26.019 glowing. Take all these little images that we 00:10:26.019 --> 00:10:30.720 have. Crank that up to its max settings. And 00:10:30.720 --> 00:10:33.200 then multiply it. And that's how radiant Moses 00:10:33.200 --> 00:10:37.080 was. See, when we spend time in the Word. When 00:10:37.080 --> 00:10:40.320 we spend time in prayer. When we spend time... 00:10:40.490 --> 00:10:44.049 meditating, and thinking about the things God 00:10:44.049 --> 00:10:51.669 is teaching us, we glow. Let's turn to Colossians 00:10:51.669 --> 00:10:57.330 chapter 3 now. So Colossians chapter 3, verses 00:10:57.330 --> 00:11:00.610 23 through 24. So Colossians 3, 23 through 24, 00:11:00.769 --> 00:11:12.389 the word says, that from the Lord you will receive 00:11:12.389 --> 00:11:16.210 the reward of the inheritance, for you serve 00:11:16.210 --> 00:11:24.809 the Lord Christ. The Word is telling us that 00:11:24.809 --> 00:11:28.230 when we spend time working on the things the 00:11:28.230 --> 00:11:33.129 Lord has handed us and are focused on doing these 00:11:33.129 --> 00:11:38.850 things to His glory, seeing it as a blessing, 00:11:38.970 --> 00:11:41.730 as the blessing he's intended that work to be, 00:11:41.929 --> 00:11:47.029 like Moses working on the tablets. It has a profound 00:11:47.029 --> 00:11:50.429 impact on us. People will see the light of the 00:11:50.429 --> 00:11:53.809 Lord, the Holy Spirit shining through us, right? 00:11:54.769 --> 00:11:57.769 You know, I know it's not easy. Sometimes we 00:11:57.769 --> 00:12:01.210 go to work and we get just downright frustrated. 00:12:01.629 --> 00:12:06.000 You know, we ask, what am I doing here? Or can 00:12:06.000 --> 00:12:09.360 I just win the lottery and retire? When instead, 00:12:09.519 --> 00:12:11.919 really, we should be asking, what do I need to 00:12:11.919 --> 00:12:15.500 learn here? And what is your will for me? Right? 00:12:15.840 --> 00:12:18.159 We need to ask these things. Let me repeat those. 00:12:19.120 --> 00:12:22.320 What do I need to learn here? And what is your 00:12:22.320 --> 00:12:26.039 will for me? I recently had something like this 00:12:26.039 --> 00:12:30.120 happen to me at my day job. I was in a position 00:12:30.120 --> 00:12:32.340 that was increasingly frustrating. And for months 00:12:32.340 --> 00:12:35.289 and months and months, I was looking. For change. 00:12:35.389 --> 00:12:40.850 I wanted change. And the Lord reminded me, I 00:12:40.850 --> 00:12:45.429 wasn't there for me. I was there for someone 00:12:45.429 --> 00:12:52.629 else. So I asked, who God? Who? I didn't hear 00:12:52.629 --> 00:12:58.269 anything. Radio silence. And then one day, I 00:12:58.269 --> 00:13:00.509 didn't have to hear anything. The Holy Spirit 00:13:00.509 --> 00:13:04.490 took the blinders off of me. And I saw right 00:13:04.490 --> 00:13:06.450 there in front of me. I realized right away the 00:13:06.450 --> 00:13:10.649 answer was in front of me the whole time. It 00:13:10.649 --> 00:13:13.549 was somebody I was spending a lot of time with, 00:13:13.610 --> 00:13:17.129 having deep conversations with, a fellow veteran 00:13:17.129 --> 00:13:20.250 who needed a brother to help get them through 00:13:20.250 --> 00:13:22.590 until they could get to that next phase in their 00:13:22.590 --> 00:13:27.809 life. It really was that aha moment, that epiphany, 00:13:27.850 --> 00:13:30.870 that little light bulb went on. And things changed 00:13:30.870 --> 00:13:34.690 very quickly for me. Since then, we've both moved 00:13:34.690 --> 00:13:38.490 on to different positions. And we're both much, 00:13:38.690 --> 00:13:43.769 much happier. It's hard. And that stems from 00:13:43.769 --> 00:13:45.669 our own humanness, just like this incident stems 00:13:45.669 --> 00:13:49.289 from my own humanness. It's our desire to find 00:13:49.289 --> 00:13:53.789 understanding of everything that surrounds us. 00:13:54.289 --> 00:13:59.450 Yet, when we do the things we need to do in order 00:13:59.450 --> 00:14:02.389 to put God first, first in our lives, to put 00:14:02.389 --> 00:14:05.409 God as the most important one in our lives, and 00:14:05.409 --> 00:14:10.710 to point the way to him in all that we do. People 00:14:10.710 --> 00:14:14.570 see it. When we do all these things, and we do 00:14:14.570 --> 00:14:16.870 all the things that we need to, it puts God first, 00:14:17.009 --> 00:14:20.350 and people see that. It reflects. His light shines. 00:14:20.870 --> 00:14:24.429 People see it, and it has an effect on them one 00:14:24.429 --> 00:14:26.330 way or the other. It absolutely impacts them. 00:14:27.830 --> 00:14:32.019 Let's turn back to 2 Corinthians 3. So 2 Corinthians 00:14:32.019 --> 00:14:35.200 3, we're going into verses 12 through 18 now. 00:14:36.440 --> 00:14:39.340 So 2 Corinthians 3, 12 through 18, Paul writes, 00:14:39.779 --> 00:14:44.960 Therefore, since we have such hope, we use great 00:14:44.960 --> 00:14:51.279 boldness of speech, unlike Moses, who put a veil 00:14:51.279 --> 00:14:53.779 over his face so that the children of Israel 00:14:53.779 --> 00:14:55.960 could not look steadily at the end of what was 00:14:55.960 --> 00:15:03.559 passing away. But their minds were blinded. For 00:15:03.559 --> 00:15:10.080 until this day, the same veil remains unlifted 00:15:10.080 --> 00:15:14.360 in the reading of the Old Testament because the 00:15:14.360 --> 00:15:19.899 veil is taken away in Christ. But even to this 00:15:19.899 --> 00:15:24.519 day, when Moses is read, a veil lies on their 00:15:24.519 --> 00:15:29.299 heart. Nevertheless, when one turns to the Lord, 00:15:29.710 --> 00:15:32.970 the veil is taken away. Now the Lord is the Spirit. 00:15:33.149 --> 00:15:36.509 And where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is 00:15:36.509 --> 00:15:41.029 liberty. But we all, with our unveiled face, 00:15:41.230 --> 00:15:45.570 beholding as a mirror in the glory of the Lord, 00:15:45.730 --> 00:15:48.590 are being transformed into the same image from 00:15:48.590 --> 00:15:53.470 glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the 00:15:53.470 --> 00:16:01.399 Lord. When Moses came down, He covered the radiance 00:16:01.399 --> 00:16:03.379 that was just absolutely beaming off of him. 00:16:03.600 --> 00:16:07.720 He wore a veil. And he did this for a couple 00:16:07.720 --> 00:16:11.059 of reasons. One, so that when people saw him, 00:16:11.100 --> 00:16:12.919 they wouldn't be scared. He didn't want people 00:16:12.919 --> 00:16:17.179 running off. Secondly, so that people wouldn't 00:16:17.179 --> 00:16:21.870 see this radiance fade away. Now, what do I mean 00:16:21.870 --> 00:16:24.409 when I say fade away? Well, the veil, it's an 00:16:24.409 --> 00:16:26.490 illustration, okay? It's an illustration of the 00:16:26.490 --> 00:16:29.210 old system, an illustration of people's minds 00:16:29.210 --> 00:16:33.230 being veiled by things like pride, allowing their 00:16:33.230 --> 00:16:36.330 hearts to harden, becoming selfish and refusing 00:16:36.330 --> 00:16:41.250 to truly repent. This veil, it's the same thing 00:16:41.250 --> 00:16:46.669 that prevented the people and even the Pharisees 00:16:46.669 --> 00:16:52.039 and the Sadducees from recognizing Jesus. They 00:16:52.039 --> 00:16:55.299 were more caught up in plays for political power, 00:16:55.460 --> 00:17:01.779 image, and prestige. And really, because of this, 00:17:01.860 --> 00:17:04.039 they couldn't see the forest for the trees. They 00:17:04.039 --> 00:17:06.039 couldn't recognize who was standing in front 00:17:06.039 --> 00:17:09.299 of them, let alone fully understand the scriptures. 00:17:10.400 --> 00:17:12.980 Yet when people start to believe and become a 00:17:12.980 --> 00:17:18.940 Christian, that veil is taken away. Just like 00:17:18.940 --> 00:17:21.019 when the veil in the temple was torn away by 00:17:21.019 --> 00:17:24.339 God when Jesus died for our sins, the veil we 00:17:24.339 --> 00:17:28.880 wear is torn away from us. Jesus takes the burden 00:17:28.880 --> 00:17:33.559 of the bondage of sin and condemnation off of 00:17:33.559 --> 00:17:38.500 us. He removes the burden of trying to please 00:17:38.500 --> 00:17:43.180 Him and the guilt that follows when we fail. 00:17:43.980 --> 00:17:47.240 When we accept Christ as our Lord and Savior 00:17:47.240 --> 00:17:51.740 and allow Him to lead our lives, we are freed 00:17:51.740 --> 00:17:57.640 from shame, addictions, self -hate, and are given 00:17:57.640 --> 00:18:02.759 love, acceptance, and forgiveness in their place. 00:18:04.200 --> 00:18:09.960 The Holy Spirit, when this happens, is then able 00:18:09.960 --> 00:18:13.579 to work within us. giving us a radiance that 00:18:13.579 --> 00:18:17.259 shines out over our lives, and it's more brilliant 00:18:17.259 --> 00:18:20.880 than the radiance that came off of Moses. It's 00:18:20.880 --> 00:18:24.299 a radiance that reflects the light and love of 00:18:24.299 --> 00:18:28.420 God while pointing the way to Him and His kingdom. 00:18:28.759 --> 00:18:32.259 The Spirit guides us and empowers us to effect 00:18:32.259 --> 00:18:36.420 real change in the world around us, a change 00:18:36.420 --> 00:18:40.960 that happens in His time, not ours, and reflects 00:18:40.960 --> 00:18:46.359 His Glory, not ours. As Philippians 1 .6 tells 00:18:46.359 --> 00:19:05.200 us, God has provided for our salvation and will 00:19:05.200 --> 00:19:09.319 continue to work in us throughout our lives. 00:19:12.319 --> 00:19:15.259 Plant growing, right? Just like a plant growing 00:19:15.259 --> 00:19:17.359 from its seed into its fullness. It doesn't happen 00:19:17.359 --> 00:19:22.500 overnight, right? The seed, his work, which began 00:19:22.500 --> 00:19:24.960 in us when we first believed, and it continues 00:19:24.960 --> 00:19:28.779 to grow and grow and grow each and every single 00:19:28.779 --> 00:19:31.640 day, helping us to become more like Christ each 00:19:31.640 --> 00:19:33.880 and every single day. And this is a work that 00:19:33.880 --> 00:19:37.160 will continue until the very day that we are 00:19:37.160 --> 00:19:42.539 reunited with him in eternity.
