¡Buen día! Welcome back to The Spanish Conversation Podcast! I’m Alyssa Bonelli, and you’re someone who wants to improve your Spanish speaking skills. Mucho gusto. 1. frustrar = to frustrate 2. la retroalimentación = feedback 3. evitar = to avoid 4. el equipo = team 5. resolver / solucionar = resolve / solve 6. discutir = to discuss, argue 7. molestar = to annoy, bother Imagine you are trying to resolver a dispute, issue, or problema, be it at work or in your vida personal. ¿Cómo podemos resolver este problema?– How can we resolve this problem? The use of nosotros makes this question sound more collaborative. 2. ¿ Cuál es la cosa que te está frustrando?– Which is the thing that is frustrating you? Here we are looking for specifics, so that we can get to the root of the issue. You can use the generic cosa for thing, or if you have an idea of something more specific that could be the issue, use that instead. Similarly, frustrar isn’t your only choice for an emotion, you could use enojarse for making you mad, preocuparse for worrying you, or others. 3. ¿Tienes alguna retroalimentación para mí? – Do you have any feedback for me? Buckle up for this question, you are requesting feedback or retroalimentación, and hopefully the other person keeps it constructive and helpful. 4. ¿Cómo podemos evitar esto en el futuro? – How can we avoid this in the future? Toward the end of an argument or issue, you may want to look into the future for next steps. Funny enough this question only uses present tense, but saying [removed] for will we be able to instead of podemos as can, be able to, is also an option. 5. – How can we work as a team against this problem? Very similar to the above at the start with [removed], but here we are in a scenario where we are looking for collaboration, or to colaborar, with a group of people, or maybe just one other person. Its a great subliminal way to frame that its you all versus the problem, not versus eachother. 6. ¿Es un buen momento discutirlo?- Is this a good time to discuss it? This question can go a long way to making sure that your messaging will be well received, because if the person isn’t in the right state of mind or has five minutes, you won’t achieve resolution. Discutir means either discuss or argue. The [removed] is a placeholder if you don’t have specifics, or you can name the issue to discuss. 7. – What did I say that bothered you? This sounds more wordy in Spanish than the English, the key here is the use of [removed] which is like “that which” in English. So we want to know what is the that thing which I said that bothered you. 8. ¿Sería mejor solucionar el problema más tarde? – Would it be better to solve the problem later? This suggestion is great if you have tried and are getting nowhere with resolving something. Perhaps if you consultar con la almohada, or sleep on it, the solution will become more apparent. Alrighty, a brief descanso here to let you gather your pensamientos, before the last parte of the episode, the random questions. You can jot down or make a note of the most útiles of the questions now or at the end. ¿Puedes explicarlo? (What is my concern about the hourly rate?) (Here I chose quisiera instead of my usual [removed] and asunto is issue. What do I propose instead of now?) (No tiene nada que ver contigo means it has nothing to do with you. What does it have to do with?) (Impuestos are taxes, and contratar is to hire. Remember fecha tope from the office episode?) (Is this a work scenario, or perhaps a friend or loved one? How can you tell? que me lo digas is that you tell me) ¿Sería mejor solucionar el problema más tarde? (Tener razón is to be right, and Dame here is the command give me. Did you know you can use correos electrónicos or emails for emails? The English word has caught on.) (Do I have a solution? Who does it involve?) (How do I think we can fix the problem? Gerente is manager). ¡Buen trabajo, acabaste con el episodio! I hope esta práctica makes it easier to navigate what can be tricky situations, conflicts! Having some vocabulario and preguntas preparadas might help de-escalate the situation instead of having it explotar. Some of these ideas came from the book Non-Violent Communication by Marshall Rosenburg if you want to check it out. As Season One is almost over, I am taking suggestions for Season Two topics! Please let me know if you have a topic that you would like covered, either for beginner or intermediate listeners, a message through my website will do the trick. If I choose your topic, you win a prize! Holler at me, www.gringaconsulting.com ¡chau!
