¡Qué pasa, qué pasó, qué pasará! Welcome back to the Spanish Conversation Podcast, hats off for continuing to show up to improve your speaking and listening skills, I am orgullosa de ti. Today, in this Segundo intermediate level episode, we will learn about making plans. We have nueve preguntas you can ask to set up plans with someone. If you want to read along, click the link in the description for transcripts, you can find them for each episode there, gratis, ¡cero dólares! If you’re curioso o curiosa, yo hago estos episodios cortos so you could build a 30 min practice session around each one, taking the content at your own pace. You can stop, rewind, read the transcript, and jot down answers to make your own lección de español! So first off, empezaremos con algunas palabras y frases you may necesitar hoy: 1. alguna vez = sometime 2. mejores = best 3. allí = there 4. llegar = to arrive, get there 5. llevar = to wear, bring, carry 6. el fin de semana = weekend 7. debería (deber) = should okie dokie, es la hora de preguntar! Imagine you are catching up with a friend and trying to arrange a time to see each other in person either in writing, on the phone, or in person, ¡en español! You might decir the following: 1. ¿Te gustaría hacer algo alguna vez? - Would you like to do something sometime? This is conditional tense, you could reply with the same, something like, Sí, me gustaría _____ and fill in a verb like comer or visitar, etc. 2. ¿Cuándo estás disponible? - When are you free? Here is a good place to practice week (semana), month (mes), or weekend like fin de semana. So it could sound something like la tercera semana de abril. Disponible is available, as free in Spanish, libre, is more like Liberty type free. 3. ¿Qué quieres hacer este fin de semana? - What do you want to do this weekend? here you have a ton of options to respond. You could say you don’t know, and reply No sé, ¿qué quieres hacer tú? Or you could go with me gustaría for I would like to, or qué tal for how about… 4. - What dates and times work best for you? This question is similar to number two but is calling for more specifics. This is a good time to practice your days of the week, like lunes martes miércoles, and if you want to include a time, you could say a las tres, or more vaguely, por la tarde. 5. ¿Has estado allí? - Have you been there? This is using the present participle tense with haber and -ado / -ido. For “Yes I have been there” you could respond, Sí, he estado allí and then if you would like to say “ago” you would follow with hace and the time, like hace dos años. 6. ¿Dónde está en relación con Denver? - Where is it relative to Denver? This question calls for directions, so you could list a highway or autopista, or perhaps more vaguely, you could include norte, sur, este, oeste for north, south, east, west, if the person is just trying to visualize it in their head. 7. ¿Cómo llegas allí? How do you get there? As someone who is terrible at directions, I hate this question. My answer is always that I will send the link or send the address, something like, yo te enviaré el enlace or la dirección, or if you don’t know future tense well, try yo voy a enviarte. 8. ¿Qué debería yo llevar? What should I bring / wear? This verb llevar means to wear, bring, carry, so you will want to watch the context. Traer is an alternative for to bring. You could just say no necesitas llevar nada contigo for you don’t need to bring anything with you, or for clothing, you could say “deberías llevar algo cómodo / formal” for you should wear something comfy or formal. 9. ¿Necesitamos una reserva? - Do we need a reservation? This is an easy present tense question, but the reply calls for some complexity. One option is “I think so” or “I think not”, as Pienso que sí / no. You could also use should like we did above, deber in the conditional, to say tal vez deberíamos verificar / chequear for “maybe we should check”. Okay, ready? Pause here if not, and take your time. ¡No hay presión! Cuando estés listo / lista, here come the questions in random order. (what is being provided, and what clothing item should I bring?) (Hacer senderismo is hiking, cine is movie theater) ¿Cómo llegas allí? (autopista is highway, and dirección is address) ¿Necesitamos una reserva? (No lo sé is I don’t know it, as in the answer. How will I find out?) (Mediodia is noon, when is best for me?) (al fin del mes is the end of the month, and el viaje is trip) ¿Has estado allí? (A reseña is a review. My use of creo que is showing I am not positive) ¿Dónde está en relación con Denver? (estacionamiento is parking, and dejaría is saying I would leave) ¿Qué quieres hacer este fin de semana? (Note my desire to do nothing, but then an offer of a specific activity). Pues, pat yourself on the espalda, es todo para hoy and you made it! Hopefully its easier to set up or arrange a hangout with amigos o familia next time you get the chance.
