But at 00:02:56.629 --> 00:02:58.810 this beach, there was a 10 -year -old British 00:02:58.810 --> 00:03:05.169 girl named Tilly Smith. Two weeks earlier, she 00:03:05.169 --> 00:03:10.270 had been at school in a geography class. Guess 00:03:10.270 --> 00:03:15.099 what they learned about? Now today I want to show you there's 00:03:45.259 --> 00:03:50.159 another tsunami coming. One that's going to obliterate 00:03:50.159 --> 00:03:53.759 Cairns. Actually it's going to cover the whole 00:03:53.759 --> 00:03:59.259 world. And it's not a tsunami of water, it's 00:03:59.259 --> 00:04:01.879 a tsunami of God's judgment, God's righteous 00:04:01.879 --> 00:04:06.020 and holy judgment on the world. And the signs 00:04:06.020 --> 00:04:10.419 are clear if you know what to look for. Do you ever think you 00:06:07.259 --> 00:06:09.220 were doing that when you pray, your kingdom come? 00:06:10.000 --> 00:06:11.480 You're praying for the end of the world. You're 00:06:11.480 --> 00:06:15.060 praying for Jesus' return. We're asking God to 00:06:15.060 --> 00:06:20.980 come and end evil, sin, pain, persecution. This 00:06:20.980 --> 00:06:24.160 is a prayer that Christ would come rescue his 00:06:24.160 --> 00:06:28.819 people and take them home. A little while back, I flew from Cairns 00:07:08.459 --> 00:07:11.819 to Brisbane for Diocese of the Southern Cross 00:07:11.819 --> 00:07:16.060 mini conference that we had. And I want to ask 00:07:16.060 --> 00:07:18.720 you a question. When I was doing that, did the 00:07:18.720 --> 00:07:21.879 plane arrive on the runway? When it lands on 00:07:21.879 --> 00:07:24.060 the runway, is that when the plane has arrived? 00:07:25.100 --> 00:07:28.500 Or does the plane arrive when everyone gets off 00:07:28.500 --> 00:07:34.189 at the terminal. Which one is it? Well, it's 00:07:34.189 --> 00:07:37.949 actually both, isn't it? It arrives when it hits 00:07:37.949 --> 00:07:42.610 the runway. And it arrives in a fuller way when 00:07:42.610 --> 00:07:47.230 we get off at the terminal, isn't it? Both are 00:07:47.230 --> 00:07:50.149 arriving. And it's the same with God's kingdom. 00:07:50.550 --> 00:07:54.110 When Jesus came the first time, it arrived. God's 00:07:54.110 --> 00:07:57.670 kingdom was here in Jesus. These show that it has 00:08:25.089 --> 00:08:28.250 come and that we need to be ready when it does 00:08:28.250 --> 00:08:33.710 come in its fullness. Jesus' first coming warns 00:08:33.710 --> 00:08:37.889 us that there is a tsunami coming when God will 00:08:37.889 --> 00:08:41.269 judge the world and there is a way of escape 00:08:41.269 --> 00:08:44.649 where you can go and enter God's eternal kingdom 00:08:44.649 --> 00:08:49.490 forever. We can either escape to eternal paradise 00:08:49.490 --> 00:08:53.450 or be obliterated for eternity in the tsunami. 00:08:54.970 --> 00:08:59.450 But all the warning signs are there. I mean, 00:08:59.649 --> 00:09:04.370 what is the cross? The cross is both a window 00:09:04.370 --> 00:09:07.289 into what God's judgment looks like, isn't it? 00:09:07.570 --> 00:09:10.490 Do you want to see what hell looks like? Look 00:09:10.490 --> 00:09:14.750 at what Jesus experienced on the cross. But it's 00:09:14.750 --> 00:09:19.620 also the high ground. It's the place we go to 00:09:19.620 --> 00:09:22.759 be safe. If you trust in the cross, if you trust 00:09:22.759 --> 00:09:25.639 in what Jesus has done, you are on the high ground. 00:09:25.679 --> 00:09:29.659 You are safe from God's judgment. Imagine 00:10:59.779 --> 00:11:04.840 a refugee in a refugee camp. The camp isn't safe. 00:11:05.320 --> 00:11:09.080 It's safer than where they were. And the added work 00:12:53.639 --> 00:12:56.200 is more demanding, though. There is a trade -off. 00:12:56.279 --> 00:12:59.799 The added work is more demanding. And so you're 00:12:59.799 --> 00:13:02.639 busy and you're tired all the time. But the comfy 00:13:02.639 --> 00:13:05.139 lifestyle, it's seductive. Now that's just one example, but 00:13:56.980 --> 00:13:59.379 heart drift can happen in a variety of ways, 00:13:59.500 --> 00:14:04.159 can't it? Here's how Jesus puts it. He says, 00:14:04.379 --> 00:14:07.279 Just as it was in the days of Noah, so it will 00:14:07.279 --> 00:14:10.539 be in the days of the Son of Man. They were eating 00:14:10.539 --> 00:14:13.120 and drinking and marrying and being given in 00:14:13.120 --> 00:14:15.860 marriage until the day when Noah entered the 00:14:15.860 --> 00:14:18.139 ark and the flood came and destroyed them all. 00:14:18.179 --> 00:14:21.279 There was a tsunami of God's judgment that came 00:14:21.279 --> 00:14:25.299 on the earth. And people were just going on about 00:14:25.299 --> 00:14:28.419 their lives as if nothing was coming, despite 00:14:28.419 --> 00:14:32.070 the warning signs. Or Jesus says, likewise, just 00:14:32.070 --> 00:14:34.129 as it was in the days of Lot, they were eating 00:14:34.129 --> 00:14:36.350 and drinking, buying and selling, planting and 00:14:36.350 --> 00:14:39.129 building. But on the day when Lot went out from 00:14:39.129 --> 00:14:41.750 Sodom, fire and sulfur rained from heaven and 00:14:41.750 --> 00:14:44.529 destroyed them all. So will it be on the day 00:14:44.529 --> 00:14:52.029 when the Son of Man is revealed. So people engrossed 00:14:52.029 --> 00:14:56.460 in this world. In good things, in marriage, in 00:14:56.460 --> 00:14:59.919 kids, in work, in building businesses, in all 00:14:59.919 --> 00:15:02.720 sorts of good things. But they're so engrossed 00:15:02.720 --> 00:15:07.720 in it that they have no eye for eternity, even 00:15:07.720 --> 00:15:13.500 though God's judgment is coming. So how do we 00:15:13.500 --> 00:15:22.519 guard against heart drift? We pray. We pray into 00:15:22.799 --> 00:15:28.960 Your kingdom come. Something like this, maybe. 00:15:29.600 --> 00:15:35.200 Father, your kingdom come. Please, Father, keep 00:15:35.200 --> 00:15:40.019 me homesick for heaven. Is that something 00:16:25.049 --> 00:16:31.350 you pray for? Are you guarding your heart? Are 00:16:31.350 --> 00:16:39.590 you homesick for God's kingdom? But if we're 00:16:39.590 --> 00:16:41.629 on about God's kingdom, we don't just pray for 00:16:41.629 --> 00:16:46.309 ourselves, we must pray for the lost too. And 00:16:46.309 --> 00:16:49.169 that's our second point today. We pray for Christ 00:16:49.169 --> 00:16:51.250 to come to his people. We pray that Jesus will 00:16:51.250 --> 00:16:55.909 return and rescue us, but also we pray for people 00:16:55.909 --> 00:17:00.269 to come to Christ. When you pray your kingdom 00:17:00.269 --> 00:17:03.529 come, you're praying for God's rescue effort 00:17:03.529 --> 00:17:08.210 to come. You're asking God to expand and advance 00:17:08.210 --> 00:17:11.390 his kingdom in the hearts and minds of people 00:17:11.390 --> 00:17:14.539 around us. It started with Jesus, 00:17:52.500 --> 00:17:56.680 with a crucified carpenter being completely humiliated 00:17:56.680 --> 00:18:02.200 by the Roman Empire. His band of broken disciples. 00:18:03.500 --> 00:18:07.160 Well, something happened, didn't it? The smallest 00:18:07.160 --> 00:18:09.200 of seeds on the earth, yet when it's sown, it 00:18:09.200 --> 00:18:12.619 grows up. and becomes larger than all the garden 00:18:12.619 --> 00:18:15.180 plants and puts out large branches so that the 00:18:15.180 --> 00:18:17.380 birds of the air can make nests in its shape. 00:18:17.559 --> 00:18:22.240 It becomes this huge thing that brings people 00:18:22.240 --> 00:18:25.319 from everywhere. That's what Jesus is getting 00:18:25.319 --> 00:18:29.940 at. And we need to be people who pray that more 00:18:29.940 --> 00:18:35.440 people come into God's kingdom. But why is it 00:18:35.440 --> 00:18:38.980 so important to pray this? Well, firstly, it's 00:18:38.980 --> 00:18:42.359 the second petition in the Lord's Prayer. Jesus, 00:18:42.460 --> 00:18:44.759 by the nature of ordering it that way, is saying, 00:18:45.299 --> 00:18:50.039 this is a high priority. Because this is one 00:18:50.039 --> 00:18:52.440 of the ways that God answers the first petition 00:18:52.440 --> 00:18:55.799 in the Lord's Prayer. Hallowed be your name. 00:18:56.740 --> 00:18:58.640 What's one of the greatest ways that God's name 00:18:58.640 --> 00:19:03.140 can be hallowed and glorified? It's by saving 00:19:03.140 --> 00:19:07.509 people, isn't it?
