But first, a little bit 00:01:55.430 --> 00:01:59.329 about Yvonne. Yvonne Reglar had just turned 17 00:01:59.329 --> 00:02:03.120 years old in the summer of 1977. She was born 00:02:03.120 --> 00:02:06.040 on July 11th and she was just weeks away from 00:02:06.040 --> 00:02:09.340 starting her senior year. She was a good student 00:02:09.340 --> 00:02:12.419 who routinely earned A's and B's and never caused 00:02:12.419 --> 00:02:15.479 her teachers or parents much trouble. She was 00:02:15.479 --> 00:02:19.879 tall. She was around 5 '10 and 135 pounds with 00:02:19.879 --> 00:02:23.680 brown hair and blue eyes. She lived in North 00:02:23.680 --> 00:02:26.400 Olmstead, Ohio with her mother and stepfather. 00:02:27.539 --> 00:02:30.000 Yvonne's biological father had died when she 00:02:30.000 --> 00:02:32.280 was young, and her stepfather had been there 00:02:32.280 --> 00:02:35.699 for most of her life. Someone who had a very bright 00:02:56.939 --> 00:03:01.139 future ahead of her. And now a timeline of events. 00:03:02.520 --> 00:03:08.939 Monday, August 8th, 1977. That day started off 00:03:08.939 --> 00:03:13.300 like any other day for Yvonne. However, her schedule 00:03:13.300 --> 00:03:15.479 was going to be disrupted in the morning, but 00:03:15.479 --> 00:03:18.620 she wasn't quite aware of it yet. She had been 00:03:18.620 --> 00:03:21.620 working at a Sunoco gas station in North Olmsted 00:03:21.620 --> 00:03:24.939 for about a year. But that week, and specifically 00:03:24.939 --> 00:03:28.939 that Monday, the manager at a different Sunoco 00:03:28.939 --> 00:03:31.879 in nearby Fairview Park was going on vacation 00:03:31.879 --> 00:03:35.520 for the week. According to reports, Yvonne was 00:03:35.520 --> 00:03:38.539 selected last minute to cover for him. It was 00:03:38.539 --> 00:03:40.520 going to be her first day at the new station. 00:03:40.939 --> 00:03:43.060 She just didn't know it yet when she woke up 00:03:43.060 --> 00:03:46.000 that morning. When she woke up, she started getting 00:03:46.000 --> 00:03:49.500 ready for work just like any other day. At this particular Sunoco 00:05:19.410 --> 00:05:22.689 station, there was one gas pump that was not 00:05:22.689 --> 00:05:24.810 self -service, so the attendant would have to 00:05:24.810 --> 00:05:28.110 come out and put the gas in the car. The friend 00:05:28.110 --> 00:05:30.350 said Yvonne mentioned a car was there for help, 00:05:30.370 --> 00:05:33.029 but it drove off. They continued talking on the 00:05:33.029 --> 00:05:37.149 phone. Then the car came back. Yvonne told her 00:05:37.149 --> 00:05:39.550 friend she would call her back, but she never 00:05:39.550 --> 00:05:44.600 did. At approximately 1 .25, an attendant at 00:05:44.600 --> 00:05:48.000 a gas station across the street told police he 00:05:48.000 --> 00:05:50.899 saw Yvonne pumping gas at the one pump that was 00:05:50.899 --> 00:05:53.839 not self -service. She was assisting a woman 00:05:53.839 --> 00:05:57.560 who had paid with a credit card. At around 1 00:05:57.560 --> 00:06:00.879 .30, again, an attendant at a nearby station, 00:06:01.019 --> 00:06:03.040 I'm not sure if it's the same one, it's unclear 00:06:03.040 --> 00:06:06.019 in the reporting, said Yvonne had complained 00:06:06.019 --> 00:06:09.860 about a customer who left only $1 for $3 worth 00:06:09.860 --> 00:06:14.670 of gas. However, in 2024, police say 00:06:44.620 --> 00:06:48.240 that it was closer to 2 .45 p .m., so two different 00:06:48.240 --> 00:06:52.420 times, about a half -hour window there. When 00:06:52.420 --> 00:06:55.180 the next employee arrived, Gary, he could not 00:06:55.180 --> 00:06:58.819 find Yvonne anywhere. He waited. He expected 00:06:58.819 --> 00:07:02.300 Yvonne to return any minute, but she would never 00:07:02.300 --> 00:07:06.360 reappear. So at 2 .50 p .m., he called the police. 00:07:07.000 --> 00:07:10.279 When police arrived, Inside of the gas station, 00:07:10.579 --> 00:07:14.420 officers found Yvonne's purse. By all accounts, she had no 00:08:27.170 --> 00:08:29.689 plans of running away and had lots of plans coming 00:08:29.689 --> 00:08:34.039 up that week. The next day, Tuesday, August 9th, 00:08:34.059 --> 00:08:36.740 police began searching for Yvonne and interviewing 00:08:36.740 --> 00:08:40.200 family, friends, and co -workers to determine 00:08:40.200 --> 00:08:44.279 whether she could have been a runaway. Police 00:08:44.279 --> 00:08:48.539 continue this search for days. On Thursday, August 00:08:48.539 --> 00:08:52.340 11th, Yvonne has been missing since Monday. There 00:08:52.340 --> 00:08:55.399 was still no sign of her. Police and her parents 00:08:55.399 --> 00:08:59.259 fear that she had been abducted. Lieutenant Fred 00:08:59.259 --> 00:09:02.509 Nippenberg says, quote, The station location 00:09:02.509 --> 00:09:06.129 is a busy area, and no one remembers seeing anything 00:09:06.129 --> 00:09:08.970 unusual. We're going to start all over again 00:09:08.970 --> 00:09:13.330 interviewing people. Police had searched around 00:09:13.330 --> 00:09:15.789 the Sunoco station. They had searched the high 00:09:15.789 --> 00:09:18.230 cliffs along the south side of Lorraine Road 00:09:18.230 --> 00:09:21.129 in the Rocky River Reservation as well to see 00:09:21.129 --> 00:09:23.710 if there had been any sign of her, and still 00:09:23.710 --> 00:09:27.929 there was nothing. On Friday, August 12th, The 00:09:27.929 --> 00:09:30.450 FBI joined the search after an airline clerk 00:09:30.450 --> 00:09:33.830 reported that on Tuesday or Wednesday, a girl 00:09:33.830 --> 00:09:36.470 fitting Yvonne's description purchased a ticket 00:09:36.470 --> 00:09:39.750 for a 10 a .m. flight to Miami. The young woman 00:09:39.750 --> 00:09:43.710 paid in $1 bills and 50 -cent pieces. She had 00:09:43.710 --> 00:09:47.509 no luggage and she was traveling alone. While 00:09:47.509 --> 00:09:49.889 the police and FBI are looking into this tip, 00:09:50.129 --> 00:09:54.429 the next day, Saturday, August 13th, Police get 00:09:54.429 --> 00:09:57.169 another lead from a truck driver who said a young 00:09:57.169 --> 00:10:00.110 woman approached him at a rest area along Route 00:10:00.110 --> 00:10:03.470 2 near Port Clinton early Thursday morning and 00:10:03.470 --> 00:10:07.309 asked for a ride to Toledo, Ohio. No one could 00:10:07.309 --> 00:10:09.710 think of any reason that Yvonne would want to 00:10:09.710 --> 00:10:14.509 go to Toledo. But still, police go to that area 00:10:14.509 --> 00:10:18.370 to look for her. However, neither one of these 00:10:18.370 --> 00:10:22.340 leads, the trucker or the airline lead, result 00:10:22.340 --> 00:10:27.299 in any clues about Yvonne. On Wednesday, August 00:10:27.299 --> 00:10:30.419 17th, so Yvonne has been missing for a week and 00:10:30.419 --> 00:10:33.320 a half at this point, Lieutenant John Hall said, 00:10:33.419 --> 00:10:36.019 quote, we're exactly where we were on the day 00:10:36.019 --> 00:10:39.399 after her disappearance. The strange thing is, 00:10:39.440 --> 00:10:41.440 is she left her purse behind in the station. 00:10:42.220 --> 00:10:44.259 That's the thing that bothers me more than anything 00:10:44.259 --> 00:10:49.409 else. However, Pretty quickly, the case seems 00:10:49.409 --> 00:10:52.370 to go cold. Police never really are able to turn 00:10:52.370 --> 00:10:55.409 up any leads in these first few weeks of investigation 00:10:55.409 --> 00:10:58.710 to point to any direction that Yvonne could have 00:10:58.710 --> 00:11:04.090 gone. In November of 1977, the investigation 00:11:04.090 --> 00:11:07.789 had stalled. The case was getting colder by the 00:11:07.789 --> 00:11:10.309 day, and it had been over three months since 00:11:10.309 --> 00:11:14.230 Yvonne vanished. Police began looking into Richard 00:11:14.230 --> 00:11:17.299 Allen Wright. who had been serving time for kidnapping 00:11:17.299 --> 00:11:20.120 and sexually assaulting an 18 -year -old from 00:11:20.120 --> 00:11:24.440 the same area in Ohio between 1972 and 1975. 00:11:25.259 --> 00:11:27.960 So that would have been five years before Yvonne 00:11:27.960 --> 00:11:31.940 vanished. However, he had escaped from prison 00:11:31.940 --> 00:11:34.759 and was on the run during the time of her disappearance. 00:11:35.440 --> 00:11:38.620 During his escape, he kidnapped a schoolteacher 00:11:38.620 --> 00:11:42.200 and held her captive for 12 days. The schoolteacher 00:11:42.200 --> 00:11:45.490 managed to escape. When police went to his trailer 00:11:45.490 --> 00:11:49.669 after, police found blood and hair that did not 00:11:49.669 --> 00:11:52.029 belong to the teacher, and they began wondering 00:11:52.029 --> 00:11:56.750 if this could be a link to Yvonne. They contacted 00:11:56.750 --> 00:11:59.350 Yvonne's parents for her blood type and a hair 00:11:59.350 --> 00:12:02.509 sample for comparison. According to her mother, 00:12:02.590 --> 00:12:04.929 she had to dig through Yvonne's clothes to find 00:12:04.929 --> 00:12:07.570 a single hair clinging to any of her clothes. 00:12:08.870 --> 00:12:13.220 However, the evidence did not match Yvonne. About 00:12:13.220 --> 00:12:15.779 a month later, so it's been over four months 00:12:15.779 --> 00:12:19.200 now, that Yvonne has been missing. Police traveled 00:12:19.200 --> 00:12:21.519 to Pennsylvania to interview a college student 00:12:21.519 --> 00:12:24.460 who believed that he had picked up Yvonne in 00:12:24.460 --> 00:12:26.899 Pennsylvania as a hitchhiker and had driven her 00:12:26.899 --> 00:12:30.840 to a nearby town. The student had recently seen 00:12:30.840 --> 00:12:33.860 a missing person poster and recognized her as 00:12:33.860 --> 00:12:36.720 the girl he had picked up. He wasn't sure of 00:12:36.720 --> 00:12:39.200 the date, but believed it was after her disappearance. 00:12:40.969 --> 00:12:43.690 Police questioned people in the area and searched 00:12:43.690 --> 00:12:47.070 for any other sign of Yvonne, but they didn't 00:12:47.070 --> 00:12:52.730 find anything. In August of 1978, so it's been 00:12:52.730 --> 00:12:55.230 a full year that Yvonne has been missing, one 00:12:55.230 --> 00:13:05.149 of her friends says, quote, Initially, police 00:13:05.149 --> 00:13:07.409 believed that this was an abduction, as I had 00:13:07.409 --> 00:13:11.419 spoken about earlier. But, As no ransom demands 00:13:11.419 --> 00:13:14.340 were made and no body was recovered, they began 00:13:14.340 --> 00:13:16.559 to believe that she may have actually run away. 00:13:17.200 --> 00:13:20.059 This is also fueled by the fact that tips have 00:13:20.059 --> 00:13:21.899 come in from people claiming they had picked 00:13:21.899 --> 00:13:24.960 her up as a hitchhiker. Her parents monitored 00:13:24.960 --> 00:13:27.700 her bank account. There had been no activity 00:13:27.700 --> 00:13:32.340 on it. Police theorized that issues with her 00:13:32.340 --> 00:13:35.639 stepfather may have led her to run away. One 00:13:35.639 --> 00:13:51.059 of her friends, Kathy, said, quote, Kathy and 00:13:51.059 --> 00:13:53.519 another friend also told reporters that Yvonne 00:13:53.519 --> 00:13:56.159 had an ex -boyfriend she wanted to get back at. 00:13:56.559 --> 00:14:09.340 Quote, These friends were convinced she had staged 00:14:09.340 --> 00:14:11.799 the mysterious circumstances around her disappearance. 00:14:12.639 --> 00:14:15.740 Her parents never believed any of that. They 00:14:15.740 --> 00:14:18.419 believed that she had been abducted. And still 00:14:18.419 --> 00:14:22.600 no firm sign or clue of Yvonne ever popped up. 00:14:23.340 --> 00:14:28.240 In July of 1980, so just shy of three years, 00:14:28.580 --> 00:14:33.279 still no sign of her. The most recent tip that 00:14:33.279 --> 00:14:36.330 police had received at this point? had come from 00:14:36.330 --> 00:14:39.129 somebody who had seen a model in a hairstyle 00:14:39.129 --> 00:14:41.809 magazine who resembled Yvonne, so they called 00:14:41.809 --> 00:14:45.289 it in. Police did investigate this, but the woman 00:14:45.289 --> 00:14:48.330 was not Yvonne. Police said that the case was 00:14:48.330 --> 00:14:51.409 technically still active, simply because it was 00:14:51.409 --> 00:14:57.830 unsolved. In August of 1981, so four years, police 00:14:57.830 --> 00:14:59.970 admitted they no longer knew what happened to 00:14:59.970 --> 00:15:02.740 Yvonne. Though they once believed that she ran 00:15:02.740 --> 00:15:04.639 away, that had been their most recent working 00:15:04.639 --> 00:15:08.940 theory, it had been months and years since they 00:15:08.940 --> 00:15:12.100 had had any other sightings come in of her, and 00:15:12.100 --> 00:15:14.379 they were never able to confirm that any of the 00:15:14.379 --> 00:15:17.039 sightings they did get were actually Yvonne. 00:15:18.679 --> 00:15:23.740 So the case truly goes cold after this. It takes 00:15:23.740 --> 00:15:26.899 years and years for an update to come. The last 00:15:26.899 --> 00:15:30.240 update really seems to come in 2024, so very 00:15:30.240 --> 00:15:33.779 recently. It had been 47 years since Yvonne disappeared. 00:15:34.960 --> 00:15:37.980 A cold case unit had announced that they were 00:15:37.980 --> 00:15:40.480 reopening her case in hopes of finally getting 00:15:40.480 --> 00:15:44.539 answers. Also created around this time is an 00:15:44.539 --> 00:15:46.840 aged progressed photo of Yvonne of what she would 00:15:46.840 --> 00:15:49.620 look like in her 60s, which is around the age 00:15:49.620 --> 00:15:52.940 she would be today. But there have truly been 00:15:52.940 --> 00:15:55.679 no new updates or developments in Yvonne's case 00:15:55.679 --> 00:15:59.179 since that first day that she went missing. And, you know, she had a job that 00:16:38.240 --> 00:16:41.879 she was working at. It seemed like her life was 00:16:41.879 --> 00:16:45.399 in the beginning stages of budding and blooming 00:16:45.399 --> 00:16:50.899 into what the next stages would be. So all of those things were 00:21:19.630 --> 00:21:22.089 noticeable to me. I think it very unlikely she got 00:24:08.480 --> 00:24:12.000 talked into a car just because of the type of 00:24:12.000 --> 00:24:14.720 employee she was. She was very responsible. A friend's dad had passed away. So 00:25:37.759 --> 00:25:41.240 she was attending the funeral. And she strikes 00:25:41.240 --> 00:25:45.569 me. as a friend who would not leave another friend 00:25:45.569 --> 00:25:49.150 during this time that would show up for her friend 00:25:49.150 --> 00:25:53.910 during this. So, yeah, I do not think that she 00:25:53.910 --> 00:25:57.009 ran during this time at all. At all. Yeah, I 00:25:57.009 --> 00:25:59.869 mean, down to her character and how you described 00:25:59.869 --> 00:26:03.250 her, she sounds like a friend who just, period, 00:26:03.369 --> 00:26:06.750 shows up. Or that she shows up to her job, shows 00:26:06.750 --> 00:26:09.069 up to school, shows up in friendships, shows 00:26:09.069 --> 00:26:12.170 up for her family. This is a present. person 00:26:12.170 --> 00:26:15.890 and active in their life. To me, it does not 00:26:15.890 --> 00:26:18.849 read as someone who is planning to leave that 00:26:18.849 --> 00:26:22.930 life. I really want to see answers in Yvonne's 00:26:22.930 --> 00:26:25.529 case, especially with it being reopened. Like, 00:26:25.549 --> 00:26:29.529 I really want to see investigators go after this 00:26:29.529 --> 00:26:32.029 case like they should have, you know, right when 00:26:32.029 --> 00:26:34.069 she disappeared, like they should have treated 00:26:34.069 --> 00:26:37.109 it as an abduction from day one. Unfortunately, 00:26:38.059 --> 00:26:42.200 That did not happen, and now we're here over 00:26:42.200 --> 00:26:46.619 47 years later. That information 00:27:19.009 --> 00:27:24.369 came out slowly. And one of those moments resulted 00:27:24.369 --> 00:27:27.329 in her mom having to dig through her clothes 00:27:27.329 --> 00:27:32.670 to find her hair. I can't even imagine what doing 00:27:32.670 --> 00:27:36.390 something like that would do to a person. Just 00:27:36.390 --> 00:27:38.410 knowing that the parents, that her parents were 00:27:38.410 --> 00:27:42.829 committed to doing anything to help find their 00:27:42.829 --> 00:27:48.670 child, it's very harrowing, but it gives me the 00:27:48.670 --> 00:27:51.390 feeling that there are answers out there for 00:27:51.390 --> 00:27:54.710 this family. I do still think that this case 00:27:54.710 --> 00:27:59.940 is so worthy of bringing her home. Yeah, Yvonne 00:27:59.940 --> 00:28:03.480 deserves to come home and however that looks, 00:28:03.519 --> 00:28:06.240 she deserves to come home and she deserves to 00:28:06.240 --> 00:28:10.359 rest and have a place to rest at home.
