Today, we are 00:01:19.840 --> 00:01:22.340 talking about the missing person case of Francis 00:01:22.340 --> 00:01:26.379 Martin Cantea, and this takes place in July of 00:01:26.379 --> 00:01:31.469 1975 in Bremerton, Washington. But first, a little 00:01:31.469 --> 00:01:35.430 bit about Francis. Francis, or better known to 00:01:35.430 --> 00:01:38.930 family and friends as Frank, was 19 years old 00:01:38.930 --> 00:01:42.909 in July of 1975, but he was just a few weeks 00:01:42.909 --> 00:01:47.129 away from his 20th birthday. He lived in a rented 00:01:47.129 --> 00:01:49.450 apartment on his own in Bremerton, Washington. 00:01:50.189 --> 00:01:52.870 He had grown up nearby and his parents were still 00:01:52.870 --> 00:01:56.750 in his hometown. Frank was at the very start 00:01:56.750 --> 00:01:59.510 of adulthood. He had a bright future ahead of 00:01:59.510 --> 00:02:02.519 him. He had just begun an apprenticeship at the 00:02:02.519 --> 00:02:05.439 Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, where he was training 00:02:05.439 --> 00:02:09.000 as a pipe fitter. His mom, Anna, remembered how 00:02:09.000 --> 00:02:12.659 excited he was to get his life started. At this 00:02:12.659 --> 00:02:16.039 time in 1975, Frank was overweight, and according 00:02:16.039 --> 00:02:18.960 to his mother, he had been crash dieting, which 00:02:18.960 --> 00:02:21.979 can be a dangerous way to lose weight. He also enjoyed writing. He had even enrolled 00:02:54.569 --> 00:02:57.150 in a creative writing class at Olympic College. 00:02:58.219 --> 00:03:00.360 Frank had never been in trouble with the law, 00:03:00.479 --> 00:03:03.759 and no one knew of anyone who might have any 00:03:03.759 --> 00:03:06.680 reason to be upset with him. His family said 00:03:06.680 --> 00:03:11.259 that he had no enemies. And now, a timeline of 00:03:11.259 --> 00:03:18.240 events. Sunday, June 22, 1975. This is the last 00:03:18.240 --> 00:03:22.219 time that Anna sees her son. Frank went with 00:03:22.219 --> 00:03:24.719 his family for a day trip to Seattle, Washington. 00:03:25.840 --> 00:03:28.680 Anna later recalled that nothing seemed unusual 00:03:28.680 --> 00:03:32.300 about Frank or his behavior that day. On Monday, 00:03:49.879 --> 00:03:53.979 June 30, 1975, Frank skips work at the naval 00:03:53.979 --> 00:03:57.389 shipyard. Normally, he was dependable, so this 00:03:57.389 --> 00:04:00.449 was out of character. According to coworkers, 00:04:00.909 --> 00:04:03.689 he was unhappy with the classroom work of the 00:04:03.689 --> 00:04:06.430 apprenticeship, but otherwise he had liked working 00:04:06.430 --> 00:04:12.289 there. Thursday, July 3rd, 1975. This is the 00:04:12.289 --> 00:04:15.849 last time that Frank is seen alive. I do not 00:04:15.849 --> 00:04:18.529 have any details about what he was doing during 00:04:18.529 --> 00:04:21.870 the day. But what we do know is that during the 00:04:21.870 --> 00:04:25.170 evening, he stopped by his friend Dan DiRocco's 00:04:25.170 --> 00:04:29.230 house to return a record he had borrowed. Dan 00:04:29.230 --> 00:04:31.310 asked Frank if he wanted to stay for a minute 00:04:31.310 --> 00:04:34.550 and chat, but Frank said he couldn't stay, couldn't 00:04:34.550 --> 00:04:38.430 even sit down for a couple of minutes. Dan noticed 00:04:38.430 --> 00:04:42.110 Frank seemed nervous. Everything suggested Frank had only 00:06:06.279 --> 00:06:08.579 stepped out for a minute and fully intended to 00:06:08.579 --> 00:06:11.920 come back. Nothing was missing, nothing of note, 00:06:12.040 --> 00:06:14.139 nothing that you would take on an overnight trip 00:06:14.139 --> 00:06:20.639 was gone. Tuesday, July 8th, 1975. It's been 00:06:20.639 --> 00:06:24.480 five days since Frank was last seen. Anna and 00:06:24.480 --> 00:06:28.180 her husband, who also went by Frank, waited to 00:06:28.180 --> 00:06:31.740 hear from their son. Finally, after five days 00:06:31.740 --> 00:06:33.920 of not hearing from him or being able to get 00:06:33.920 --> 00:06:36.480 in touch with him, they called the police to 00:06:36.480 --> 00:06:39.939 report him missing and make a report. They said that they have no 00:08:39.080 --> 00:08:42.139 reason to suspect an abduction. There were no 00:08:42.139 --> 00:08:44.399 signs of struggle at the apartment and nothing 00:08:44.399 --> 00:08:47.000 was missing, so they don't think this was a robbery 00:08:47.000 --> 00:08:51.039 gone wrong or anything like that.
