On July 00:03:37.250 --> 00:03:41.550 3, 2001, so the day before the 4th of July, this 00:03:41.550 --> 00:03:43.569 is the last day that Marisa sees her family. 00:03:44.189 --> 00:03:46.750 She had visited her parents and sister in New 00:03:46.750 --> 00:03:49.909 Jersey and had spent the day dyeing her sister's 00:03:49.909 --> 00:03:54.789 hair. On Monday, July 9, 2001, Marisa talks 00:03:54.789 --> 00:03:57.610 on the phone with her husband after 10 p .m. 00:03:57.669 --> 00:04:00.210 Again, her husband is serving time in prison. 00:04:00.990 --> 00:04:04.030 This is the last known contact that anyone has 00:04:04.030 --> 00:04:07.870 with Marisa. The next day, Tuesday, July 10, 00:04:08.110 --> 00:04:12.250 2001, Marisa's family start calling her after 00:04:12.250 --> 00:04:14.759 9 a .m. which was normal for the tight -knit 00:04:14.759 --> 00:04:18.600 family. But what was strange is that no one could 00:04:18.600 --> 00:04:22.500 get a hold of Marisa, not her dad or mom or 00:04:22.500 --> 00:04:26.060 her sister. Her family grows more and more concerned 00:04:26.060 --> 00:04:28.639 throughout the day as each one of their phone 00:04:28.639 --> 00:04:32.420 calls goes unanswered. Her younger sister, Nicole, ends up prying 00:04:52.610 --> 00:04:55.069 a window open and climbing inside to get in. 00:04:55.610 --> 00:04:57.949 She unlocks the front door for her dad and they 00:04:57.949 --> 00:05:00.670 start checking the house. Her family is shocked 00:06:25.519 --> 00:06:29.079 by her murder. I felt empty inside 00:06:42.709 --> 00:06:45.990 as if a piece of me was no longer there. We were 00:06:45.990 --> 00:06:49.550 very, very close. She's my number one baby. She 00:06:49.550 --> 00:06:52.910 always will be. The neighbors are shocked by 00:06:52.910 --> 00:06:55.410 the murder of their well -dressed neighbor. A 00:06:55.410 --> 00:06:57.230 friend of Marisa's who worked around the corner 00:06:57.230 --> 00:07:00.230 at a barber shop says, quote, this is real shocking 00:07:00.230 --> 00:07:02.560 that anybody would do that to her. This is a 00:07:02.560 --> 00:07:07.439 real calm block. The next day, Thursday, July 00:07:07.439 --> 00:07:11.720 12th, Marisa's autopsy is conducted. It confirms 00:07:11.720 --> 00:07:14.220 that the cause of death was a bullet to the back 00:07:14.220 --> 00:07:17.199 of the head. Her autopsy shows that there were 00:07:17.199 --> 00:07:20.860 no apparent signs of sexual assault, but they 00:07:20.860 --> 00:07:23.920 are still waiting on further testing. To date, 00:07:24.040 --> 00:07:26.699 police have never confirmed if she was or was 00:07:26.699 --> 00:07:29.819 not assaulted. but today on their website, they 00:07:29.819 --> 00:07:32.160 do not mention sexual assault as part of her 00:07:32.160 --> 00:07:35.740 murder. Police don't have any suspects this early 00:07:35.740 --> 00:07:38.259 in the investigation, but they are chasing down 00:07:38.259 --> 00:07:41.600 some leads. It comes to light that U .S. Marshals 00:07:41.600 --> 00:07:43.980 had visited Marisa's home a few weeks before 00:07:43.980 --> 00:07:46.980 her murder. They were looking for a fugitive 00:07:46.980 --> 00:07:49.980 who had escaped from a halfway house, Patrick 00:07:49.980 --> 00:07:53.660 Brown. Brown was an associate of her husband's, 00:07:53.660 --> 00:07:56.300 but Marisa had told them that she didn't know 00:07:56.300 --> 00:07:59.910 where he was. After her murder, the marshals 00:07:59.910 --> 00:08:02.470 returned to the neighborhood, presuming to continue 00:08:02.470 --> 00:08:04.970 to search for Brown, but it's never really mentioned 00:08:04.970 --> 00:08:08.949 anymore after this. A resident in the Olney neighborhood 00:09:01.120 --> 00:09:03.860 spots Marisa’s stolen vehicle and calls police. 00:09:04.740 --> 00:09:08.220 The Olney neighborhood, or Olney as I've also 00:09:08.220 --> 00:09:10.779 heard it pronounced, is about a 20 -minute drive 00:09:10.779 --> 00:09:15.139 north of Marisa's apartment. The neighbor spotted 00:09:15.139 --> 00:09:18.820 the car just after 8 a .m. Police tow the vehicle 00:09:18.820 --> 00:09:21.379 to a crime lab so techs can go through the car 00:09:21.379 --> 00:09:24.460 and try to get any evidence.
