Today, we are talking about the 00:01:09.409 --> 00:01:12.530 missing person case of Reny Jose and this 00:01:12.530 --> 00:01:17.170 takes place in March of 2014 in Panama City Beach, 00:01:17.349 --> 00:01:20.430 Florida. But first, a little bit about Reny. 00:01:20.849 --> 00:01:25.769 Reny is 21 years old in 2014. He is a mechanical 00:01:25.769 --> 00:01:28.790 engineering major at Rice University in Houston, 00:01:28.969 --> 00:01:33.400 Texas. He is a terrific student. He has a 4 .0 00:01:33.400 --> 00:01:36.019 grade point average and was on track to graduate 00:01:36.019 --> 00:01:39.099 the next year. When Reny wasn't working on 00:01:39.099 --> 00:01:41.780 school, he liked to play pickup games of volleyball 00:01:41.780 --> 00:01:44.340 with friends and loved spending time with his 00:01:44.340 --> 00:01:47.620 family. Right as our timeline picks up, Reny 00:01:47.620 --> 00:01:50.079 was about to head out for spring break. He had 00:01:50.079 --> 00:01:53.780 called his mother before he and 22 other students 00:01:53.780 --> 00:01:56.739 headed from Rice University to Panama City Beach. 00:01:57.640 --> 00:02:00.799 Reny and the 22 other students had rented a 00:02:00.799 --> 00:02:04.420 beach house for a week. His mom tells Reny 00:02:04.420 --> 00:02:08.120 to have a good time and to be safe. And now a 00:02:08.120 --> 00:02:12.939 timeline of events. Saturday, March 1, 2014. 00:02:14.379 --> 00:02:16.979 Reny and the other students make it to the 00:02:16.979 --> 00:02:20.699 rental house and get spring break started. The 00:02:20.699 --> 00:02:23.539 house is on Front Beach Road on the west side 00:02:23.539 --> 00:02:26.780 of Panama City Beach. The house sits right on 00:02:26.780 --> 00:02:30.699 the water. It looks beautiful. Over those first 00:02:30.699 --> 00:02:33.960 few days of spring break, it's unclear exactly 00:02:33.960 --> 00:02:37.080 what the friends were getting up to. I imagine 00:02:37.080 --> 00:02:39.580 it was a lot of typical spring break activities, 00:02:39.979 --> 00:02:42.520 hanging out in the sun and partying with friends. 00:02:43.479 --> 00:02:47.439 On Monday, March 3rd, the group has been at the 00:02:47.439 --> 00:02:51.379 beach house since Saturday. Reny was last seen 00:02:51.379 --> 00:02:56.389 around 7 p .m. It's unclear exactly where he 00:02:56.389 --> 00:02:59.669 was seen or what the circumstances exactly were. 00:03:00.370 --> 00:03:03.669 At least one person said that Reny had taken 00:03:03.669 --> 00:03:06.669 LSD that night and had started talking about 00:03:06.669 --> 00:03:10.250 suicide. The last confirmed sighting of Reny 00:03:10.250 --> 00:03:14.530 was 7 p .m. The next day, Tuesday, March 4th, 00:03:14.530 --> 00:03:17.229 that day started like many other days over the 00:03:17.229 --> 00:03:21.120 spring break. A cleaning crew picked up the beach 00:03:21.120 --> 00:03:23.800 at 6 a .m. before spring breakers covered the 00:03:23.800 --> 00:03:27.419 place. At the nearby beach house, Reny’s friends 00:03:27.419 --> 00:03:29.319 started to get worried when there were still 00:03:29.319 --> 00:03:32.759 no signs of him that morning. It appears that 00:03:32.759 --> 00:03:36.580 at some point in those morning to early afternoon 00:03:36.580 --> 00:03:40.060 hours, people from the house found clothing of 00:03:40.060 --> 00:03:43.180 Reny’s, specifically his sleeping pants and 00:03:43.180 --> 00:03:46.879 socks, hanging on a railing near the beach outside. 00:03:47.840 --> 00:03:50.219 The clothes had not been there earlier when the 00:03:50.219 --> 00:03:52.379 cleaning crews had come through, otherwise they 00:03:52.379 --> 00:03:55.939 would have been thrown out. At around 11 a .m., 00:03:55.939 --> 00:03:58.460 friends call the police to report Reny missing. 00:03:59.199 --> 00:04:02.659 At around 4 p .m., one of Reny’s friends also 00:04:02.659 --> 00:04:05.219 calls his parents to tell them that he is missing. 00:04:06.120 --> 00:04:08.400 Immediately, his parents start making plans to 00:04:08.400 --> 00:04:11.479 head to Florida to look for their son. They find in a trash can out back more 00:04:17.689 --> 00:04:21.470 of Reny’s clothing and his cell phone. Inside 00:04:21.470 --> 00:04:24.389 Reny’s room in the rental house, his laptop, 00:04:24.709 --> 00:04:27.250 wallet, and suitcase were all found there inside. 00:04:28.089 --> 00:04:31.170 Nothing of note is mentioned to be missing except 00:04:31.170 --> 00:04:34.990 for Reny himself. The sheriff's office launches 00:04:34.990 --> 00:04:38.250 the air unit to help search the water. Since 00:04:38.250 --> 00:04:40.410 clothing of his was found on the beach and there 00:04:40.410 --> 00:04:43.620 was talk of him on LSD, Police think he could 00:04:43.620 --> 00:04:46.120 have gone into the water on drugs and drowned. 00:04:46.899 --> 00:04:49.019 However, when police were searching the house, 00:04:49.259 --> 00:04:53.759 they didn't find any other drugs. The next day, 00:04:53.800 --> 00:04:56.839 Wednesday, March 5th, Reny has been missing 00:04:56.839 --> 00:04:59.939 since Monday night. Reny’s parents arrive at 00:04:59.939 --> 00:05:03.139 the beach house to help search. To their surprise, 00:05:03.480 --> 00:05:07.259 most of the students had left. Of the 22 other 00:05:07.259 --> 00:05:10.540 spring breakers, 16 had packed up and left from 00:05:10.540 --> 00:05:13.259 their spring break trip. His mother said of the 00:05:13.259 --> 00:05:16.300 students left, quote, there were two girls and 00:05:16.300 --> 00:05:19.240 four boys left. Two of them didn't even want 00:05:19.240 --> 00:05:22.540 to talk to us, end quote. It appears that the 00:05:22.540 --> 00:05:25.279 Panama City Beach police never got the chance 00:05:25.279 --> 00:05:27.540 to talk to all of the students who were at the 00:05:27.540 --> 00:05:29.860 house near the time that Reny went missing. 00:05:30.879 --> 00:05:34.600 Of the six left, it appears that different stories 00:05:34.600 --> 00:05:38.160 emerged. Again, his mother says, quote, one was 00:05:38.160 --> 00:05:41.139 saying, I don't know where Reny went. The other 00:05:41.139 --> 00:05:44.060 one was saying, I went to Walmart. The other 00:05:44.060 --> 00:05:46.379 one was saying, I was sleeping. And then the 00:05:46.379 --> 00:05:49.220 other one said, he went for a walk, end quote. 00:05:50.399 --> 00:05:53.819 It also sounds like of the six students that 00:05:53.819 --> 00:05:57.040 were left, one of them is the person who told 00:05:57.040 --> 00:06:00.160 police that Reny had taken LSD and was talking 00:06:00.160 --> 00:06:03.839 about suicide. This also caught the family off 00:06:03.839 --> 00:06:07.060 guard. Reny had been excited about graduating 00:06:07.060 --> 00:06:09.720 and had big plans for his life and was looking 00:06:09.720 --> 00:06:12.720 forward to the future. Reny had never talked 00:06:12.720 --> 00:06:15.600 to anyone in his family about thoughts of suicide. 00:06:16.500 --> 00:06:20.019 For the next few days, police focused their searches 00:06:20.019 --> 00:06:23.040 on the water. Police believe that it is most 00:06:23.040 --> 00:06:25.720 likely that Reny went into the water and drowned. 00:06:26.279 --> 00:06:28.579 They have their marine unit searching the Gulf 00:06:28.579 --> 00:06:31.420 of Mexico for any sign of him, but nothing is 00:06:31.420 --> 00:06:35.290 found. On Friday, March 7th, Reny has been 00:06:35.290 --> 00:06:39.410 missing since Monday night. Investigators continue 00:06:39.410 --> 00:06:42.670 to focus on the water, but police also notify 00:06:42.670 --> 00:06:45.529 other counties to be on the lookout as well as 00:06:45.529 --> 00:06:49.230 the U .S. Coast Guard. Police do start to expand 00:06:49.230 --> 00:06:51.490 their search a little bit here from the water. 00:06:51.949 --> 00:06:54.189 They search abandoned properties near the beach 00:06:54.189 --> 00:06:58.410 house and still no sign of Reny is found. At 00:06:58.410 --> 00:07:01.149 the one -week mark, police say that they are 00:07:01.149 --> 00:07:03.740 still searching for Reny. but do not believe 00:07:03.740 --> 00:07:07.100 that any foul play was involved. They believe 00:07:07.100 --> 00:07:10.800 that he took LSD, decided to go swimming, and 00:07:10.800 --> 00:07:14.540 drowned. Very quickly after this, the case appears 00:07:14.540 --> 00:07:18.759 to go cold. In September of 2014, Reny has 00:07:18.759 --> 00:07:21.459 been missing for over six months, and his family 00:07:21.459 --> 00:07:24.660 hold a demonstration outside of the FBI headquarters 00:07:24.660 --> 00:07:27.480 to try to get the FBI's attention to take over 00:07:27.480 --> 00:07:31.389 the case. The FBI do send out an agent to talk 00:07:31.389 --> 00:07:33.470 with the family, but it doesn't appear that they 00:07:33.470 --> 00:07:36.209 ever officially pick up the case or even get 00:07:36.209 --> 00:07:39.589 involved in it. At the one -year mark of Reny’s 00:07:39.589 --> 00:07:42.449 disappearance, his family heads back to Panama 00:07:42.449 --> 00:07:45.370 City Beach to raise awareness for his case and 00:07:45.370 --> 00:07:48.670 to ask the community for information. If anyone 00:07:48.670 --> 00:07:52.170 remembers anything, please let them know. Over the 00:08:04.610 --> 00:08:07.250 years, the case will go cold, but the family 00:08:07.250 --> 00:08:09.370 will fight to keep the case in the media and 00:08:09.370 --> 00:08:12.649 raise awareness. The family hires a private investigator 00:08:12.649 --> 00:08:16.149 to try to get more information. They especially 00:08:16.149 --> 00:08:18.509 want to talk to all of the students who are at 00:08:18.509 --> 00:08:21.110 the beach house with Reny, but no one talks 00:08:21.110 --> 00:08:23.769 much to the family, and a few of them even lawyer 00:08:23.769 --> 00:08:28.750 up. In March of 2024, it's been 10 years since 00:08:28.750 --> 00:08:31.170 Reny vanished and there have been no new leads 00:08:31.170 --> 00:08:35.429 or updates on his case. Police say that they 00:08:35.429 --> 00:08:38.370 still work the case if a tip is called in, but 00:08:38.370 --> 00:08:40.809 no physical sign of Reny has ever been found 00:08:40.809 --> 00:08:43.570 since that first day, when his clothes were found 00:08:43.570 --> 00:08:45.950 at the beach and in the trash can along with 00:08:45.950 --> 00:08:49.370 his cell phone. Police say that they have talked 00:08:49.370 --> 00:08:53.289 to all 22 students. Captain Daffy says, quote, 00:09:05.480 --> 00:09:24.500 End quote. But that is all we know about the 00:09:24.500 --> 00:09:27.399 disappearance of Reny Jose. Reny case, when I came across 00:10:31.350 --> 00:10:36.350 it, was one that on the surface, you know, I 00:10:36.350 --> 00:10:38.990 initially wasn't asking very many questions or 00:10:38.990 --> 00:10:41.190 not a lot of things sprung into my head. But 00:10:41.190 --> 00:10:44.070 the more I thought about it with the information 00:10:44.070 --> 00:10:48.029 we do have, what little we do have, I started 00:10:48.029 --> 00:10:51.659 to really. develop more and more questions surrounding 00:10:51.659 --> 00:10:58.659 his disappearance. Yeah, with you saying that, 00:10:58.759 --> 00:11:04.120 I kind of just want to jump right in here. After, 00:11:04.279 --> 00:11:07.879 you know, he was last seen at 7 p .m. and the 00:11:07.879 --> 00:11:11.580 following morning around 11, or within that time 00:11:11.580 --> 00:11:14.080 frame in the morning when they were finding his 00:11:14.080 --> 00:11:17.580 clothes, that's the first thing I wanted to discuss. 00:11:18.460 --> 00:11:23.019 And just ask, what do you make of that? That's kind of a strange part to me is 00:16:36.169 --> 00:16:40.049 that Reny would be doing it by himself. So 00:16:40.049 --> 00:16:43.230 I wonder if somebody else was doing it and they 00:16:43.230 --> 00:16:45.870 didn't find any drugs in the house when police 00:16:45.870 --> 00:16:51.070 did search. So then, like, if Reny was doing 00:16:51.070 --> 00:16:54.289 it by himself, so he only had just that one dose 00:16:54.289 --> 00:16:57.919 or there's just some questions about it. Like there's a lot of possibilities where 00:17:24.569 --> 00:17:27.569 maybe it was just LSD and it hit him weird.
