It says, faith 00:08:01.639 --> 00:08:04.740 is not simply to know God could do something. 00:08:05.399 --> 00:08:10.379 Faith is to know He will. And that has been super 00:08:10.379 --> 00:08:14.339 powerful for me as well. that how important faith 00:08:14.339 --> 00:08:20.560 really is. Do I trust in God? Do I believe it 00:08:20.560 --> 00:08:23.220 or do I know it? Do I really, really trust that 00:08:23.220 --> 00:08:26.839 he will? Yeah, you know what that reminds me 00:08:26.839 --> 00:08:30.819 of in Alcoholics Anonymous. You know, you just 00:08:30.819 --> 00:08:34.750 said something about... Relieve us from alcoholism, 00:09:04.500 --> 00:09:06.600 relieve us from all of the things, you know, 00:09:06.779 --> 00:09:10.000 essentially all of the effects of the fall, which 00:09:10.000 --> 00:09:13.080 show up big time in alcoholism, but that God 00:09:13.080 --> 00:09:15.919 could and would. I always believed that God could. 00:09:16.200 --> 00:09:19.220 I always believed he could, but I never believed 00:09:19.220 --> 00:09:23.860 he would, not for me. Why would he for me? I 00:09:23.860 --> 00:09:28.539 had disgraced him. I had broken covenants. I 00:09:28.539 --> 00:09:31.639 had done all of the things wrong. Those black 00:09:31.639 --> 00:09:36.129 marks in heaven. Exactly. Yeah, exactly. You know, we read in the 00:09:48.350 --> 00:09:51.190 Hebrews 11 at one, it says, now faith is the 00:09:51.190 --> 00:09:53.009 substance of things hoped for and the evidence 00:09:53.009 --> 00:09:57.250 of things not seen. So of course, I hope for 00:09:57.250 --> 00:09:59.409 this faith, but I don't, it's something that 00:09:59.409 --> 00:10:01.610 I don't, I have evidence, but I don't see it. 00:10:02.009 --> 00:10:05.570 And where this really came to fruition for me, 00:10:05.690 --> 00:10:09.570 Deb, was when I entered the rooms of Alcoholics 00:10:09.570 --> 00:10:13.940 Anonymous in 1998. October 26, when I walked 00:10:13.940 --> 00:10:17.440 in there, that's when my real faith journey began. 00:10:17.519 --> 00:10:21.299 And I say faith journey began because I was at 00:10:21.299 --> 00:10:24.100 a point, it talks about it in the big book that 00:10:24.100 --> 00:10:28.120 we're at a turning point. And I was at that turning 00:10:28.120 --> 00:10:31.220 point. I was at that jumping off point. It was 00:10:31.220 --> 00:10:33.899 one way or it was the other way for me. And I 00:10:33.899 --> 00:10:36.840 had to go the one way. And in order for me to 00:10:36.840 --> 00:10:40.840 go that one way, I needed to establish a relationship. 00:10:41.759 --> 00:10:45.539 A relationship with a higher power, a relationship 00:10:45.539 --> 00:10:48.539 with God. The first principles and ordinances 00:11:02.240 --> 00:11:05.840 of the gospel are first faith in the Lord Jesus 00:11:05.840 --> 00:11:08.549 Christ. then second repentance, third baptism 00:11:08.549 --> 00:11:11.049 by immersion for the remission of sin and fourth 00:11:11.049 --> 00:11:12.690 laying on the hands of the gift of Holy Ghost. 00:11:12.769 --> 00:11:15.169 But I think it's so interesting that the first 00:11:15.169 --> 00:11:18.049 principle and ordinance of the gospel, and we 00:11:18.049 --> 00:11:22.269 learned that when we were so little, I had a 00:11:22.269 --> 00:11:26.090 complete misunderstanding of faith. I think faith 00:11:26.090 --> 00:11:30.529 for me was a belief, not a knowing. And so for 00:11:30.529 --> 00:11:35.370 a long time, I think my my idea of what faith 00:11:35.370 --> 00:11:39.690 was, was literally just, like the scripture says, 00:11:40.330 --> 00:11:43.210 hope for things. Just hoping. Yeah. Hoping. I 00:11:43.210 --> 00:11:45.470 have faith it'll work. I have faith that, you 00:11:45.470 --> 00:11:47.269 know, but then there's other things that I have 00:11:47.269 --> 00:11:52.049 a sure knowledge of, you know, of faith. And I know that God lives. I know He 00:12:02.340 --> 00:12:06.120 is aware and I know He knows my name. And I know 00:12:06.120 --> 00:12:10.000 that Jesus is my brother. So it's that when that 00:12:10.000 --> 00:12:13.220 faith becomes that action and it becomes that 00:12:13.220 --> 00:12:16.700 knowing, it's no longer hope for, but it's that 00:12:16.700 --> 00:12:21.000 knowledge that I think. And I would say that 00:12:21.000 --> 00:12:24.100 principle and ordinance turns that faith into 00:12:24.100 --> 00:12:29.210 knowledge. But why do I care? Why do I even need 00:12:29.210 --> 00:12:31.990 faith? And I think that this is, for me, where 00:12:31.990 --> 00:12:34.409 kind of the rubber hits the road on this topic, 00:12:34.529 --> 00:12:37.629 is why do I even need faith? I mean, I'm not 00:12:37.629 --> 00:12:39.710 refuting that I do, but this is just the way 00:12:39.710 --> 00:12:42.990 my brain works. I need to understand why it's 00:12:42.990 --> 00:12:45.409 important that I do. Well, this isn't hard for 00:12:45.409 --> 00:12:48.470 me to understand why I need faith. This is all 00:12:48.470 --> 00:12:51.220 about a relationship for me. You know, faith 00:12:51.220 --> 00:12:55.000 in Jesus Christ is about my relationship with 00:12:55.000 --> 00:12:58.580 Jesus Christ. I love, in the big book of Alcoholics 00:12:58.580 --> 00:13:00.700 Anonymous, in chapter five and how it works, 00:13:01.200 --> 00:13:05.519 it talks about how I... how Scott Durfee and 00:13:05.519 --> 00:13:08.200 maybe many other alcoholics across the world 00:13:08.200 --> 00:13:12.519 and humans maybe come by gaining our faith or 00:13:12.519 --> 00:13:15.500 why it becomes necessary. In the very beginning 00:13:15.500 --> 00:13:17.919 it says rarely have we seen a person fail who 00:13:17.919 --> 00:13:19.960 has thoroughly followed our path. Those who do 00:13:19.960 --> 00:13:22.940 not recover are people who cannot or will not 00:13:22.940 --> 00:13:25.279 completely give themselves to this simple program. 00:13:25.620 --> 00:13:28.419 So that's the first step is I have to completely 00:13:28.419 --> 00:13:33.379 give myself to this idea, to this this healing 00:13:33.379 --> 00:13:36.960 to this program of redemption. I graduated from high school 00:17:42.119 --> 00:17:48.559 at 17. when I had this decision in front of me, 00:17:48.920 --> 00:17:51.519 I literally, I couldn't ask my mom, my dad. I 00:17:51.519 --> 00:17:54.380 mean, I went to, you know, some support groups 00:17:54.380 --> 00:18:00.039 and talked about, um, I mean, we, when, when 00:18:00.039 --> 00:18:02.440 I went to with a support group and I would see 00:18:02.440 --> 00:18:05.480 other girls that were single and, and pregnant, 00:18:05.940 --> 00:18:08.519 I saw some that kept their baby. I saw some that 00:18:08.519 --> 00:18:11.279 placed a baby for adoption and I had to make 00:18:11.279 --> 00:18:14.599 this decision. I mean, that's a really big decision. 00:18:14.640 --> 00:18:17.140 I have a little life that I'm bringing into the 00:18:17.140 --> 00:18:22.299 planet. At 17 years old. And I knew that I could 00:18:22.299 --> 00:18:26.500 not be her mother. Well, and honestly, I'm going 00:18:26.500 --> 00:18:30.019 to probably cry because I knew she deserved a 00:18:30.019 --> 00:18:35.539 dad. Sorry. And I couldn't give her a dad like 00:18:35.539 --> 00:18:45.059 I had. And so I sought for um, looked into placing 00:18:45.059 --> 00:18:48.339 her for adoption and I wanted her to have a mom 00:18:48.339 --> 00:18:51.039 and a dad that loved and adored her like I did. 00:18:52.119 --> 00:18:55.119 And so that's, that's the piece that I just thought, 00:18:55.380 --> 00:18:58.039 okay, I have faith that God can take this baby 00:18:58.039 --> 00:19:00.839 and put her where she belongs. And within 18 months, I am 00:19:58.190 --> 00:20:02.029 pregnant again and getting ready to have a baby 00:20:02.029 --> 00:20:06.670 with another man. And I, I honestly think the 00:20:06.670 --> 00:20:09.410 main reason why I got in that same predicament 00:20:09.410 --> 00:20:12.200 is like, because I truly believed I was ruined, 00:20:12.480 --> 00:20:16.900 I was damaged, I was not really forgiven. I did 00:20:16.900 --> 00:20:20.440 not have faith unto repentance. I thought that was for homeless people 00:27:53.930 --> 00:27:56.869 who lived under bridges and, you know, people 00:27:56.869 --> 00:27:59.509 with needle tracks in their arms and, you know, 00:27:59.589 --> 00:28:01.950 and things like that. What I didn't realize is 00:28:01.950 --> 00:28:05.809 that place would be where I met really a true 00:28:05.809 --> 00:28:08.609 God for me. Because that's where I saw, that's 00:28:08.609 --> 00:28:13.630 where I saw my desperation. And I saw him seeing 00:28:13.630 --> 00:28:18.190 my desperation and I saw him being willing to 00:28:18.190 --> 00:28:19.589 help me through that. I know for a fact I am.
