And 00:00:47.039 --> 00:00:51.840 then it says this, strive for full restoration. 00:00:53.719 --> 00:00:58.859 Isn't that good? Kintsugi is when they 00:02:34.219 --> 00:02:39.740 take broken pottery and they repair the cracks 00:02:39.740 --> 00:02:46.120 with liquid gold. And the process makes the cracked 00:02:46.120 --> 00:02:52.870 vessel stronger than it was before. And way more 00:02:52.870 --> 00:02:59.810 valuable than it was before. This is the process 00:02:59.810 --> 00:03:13.909 of restoration. Kintsugi. A noted artist, Lord 00:03:13.909 --> 00:03:19.550 Landseer, tells a story about how he stayed in 00:03:19.550 --> 00:03:23.419 a guest room. And there was a pitcher of soda 00:03:23.419 --> 00:03:27.599 water that was accidentally spilled on the decorated 00:03:27.599 --> 00:03:35.759 wall. And it left an unsightly stain. But while 00:03:35.759 --> 00:03:38.539 he was staying there and when the family left, 00:03:38.800 --> 00:03:49.099 he took out his charcoal, whatever you call them. 00:03:52.490 --> 00:03:58.650 and begin to stroke that stain. Hallelujah. And 00:06:42.360 --> 00:06:47.199 when he fell into sin, He paid an incredible 00:06:47.199 --> 00:06:56.720 price. It cost him everything. And do you know 00:06:56.720 --> 00:07:03.600 what he needed? Restoration. He suddenly became 00:07:03.600 --> 00:07:07.579 totally aware of right and wrong and evil. He 00:07:07.579 --> 00:07:11.540 lost the glory that God covered him with. He 00:07:11.540 --> 00:07:16.560 knew the shame of nakedness. He traded immortality 00:07:16.560 --> 00:07:21.639 for aging and death. He needed restoration because 00:07:21.639 --> 00:07:26.019 of everything that he had lost. And we see, if 00:07:26.019 --> 00:07:29.420 you read in Genesis, you see that God killed 00:07:29.420 --> 00:07:33.180 an animal, created clothing for him, and covered 00:07:33.180 --> 00:07:39.160 him because he's a God of restoration. Humanity 00:07:39.160 --> 00:07:43.759 now needs to be restored. Every single one of 00:07:43.759 --> 00:07:50.639 us. needs restoration. Many wandering through 00:07:50.639 --> 00:07:53.980 life just think that this is all there is. But 00:07:53.980 --> 00:07:57.360 when you are restored into right relationship 00:07:57.360 --> 00:08:01.920 with your creator, then you realize that your 00:08:01.920 --> 00:08:06.259 eyes are opened and you go, whoa, there's way 00:08:06.259 --> 00:08:09.100 more to this than crawling around this planet 00:08:09.100 --> 00:08:13.060 just taking care of my family and making money. 00:08:14.600 --> 00:08:18.819 God wants to restore you into right relationship 00:08:18.819 --> 00:08:26.600 with Him. And so, the Father did not mess around 00:08:26.600 --> 00:08:35.860 with the fragility of humanity. The Father, from 00:08:35.860 --> 00:08:40.559 the beginning, planned to send His Son to the 00:08:40.559 --> 00:08:47.460 cross. Four or five thousand years after Adam 00:08:47.460 --> 00:08:55.320 fell, Jesus went to the cross. The veil of the 00:08:55.320 --> 00:09:00.120 curtain was torn in two so that you and I could 00:09:00.120 --> 00:09:03.200 be restored into right relationship with the 00:09:03.200 --> 00:09:10.720 Father. Restoration. Restoration. What is it? 00:09:11.200 --> 00:09:18.659 What does the verse say? Strive for full restoration. 00:09:19.580 --> 00:09:23.860 I love that. The English Standard Version says, 00:09:24.059 --> 00:09:31.080 aim for restoration. The Voice Bible, which is 00:09:31.080 --> 00:09:36.620 a newer translation, says this, repair whatever 00:09:36.620 --> 00:09:46.360 is broken. My wife is going to apply this verse 00:09:46.360 --> 00:09:49.620 to our house. It's not going to be good for me. 00:09:55.159 --> 00:09:59.500 I want to just walk through a couple of characters 00:09:59.500 --> 00:10:02.919 in the Old Testament that needed restoration. 00:10:05.139 --> 00:10:11.120 Joseph. Joseph, the favorite of his father. but 00:10:11.120 --> 00:10:17.860 hated by his brothers. His wicked brothers lied 00:10:17.860 --> 00:10:21.919 to their father about his death and sold him 00:10:21.919 --> 00:10:27.720 into slavery. And as a slave, he was falsely 00:10:27.720 --> 00:10:32.360 accused of adultery and thrown into an Egyptian 00:10:32.360 --> 00:10:42.409 prison for years. But through it all, Joseph 00:10:42.409 --> 00:10:46.190 served those around him. He continued to operate 00:10:46.190 --> 00:10:51.429 with integrity. And he was faithful for years. 00:10:52.710 --> 00:10:58.509 Not just a day or two. But for years, he was 00:10:58.509 --> 00:11:03.590 faithful to what God had called him to. Whatever 00:11:03.590 --> 00:11:09.480 God had called him to. Nobody saw. Nobody remembered. 00:11:10.220 --> 00:11:14.000 People forgot him. They forgot him over and over 00:11:14.000 --> 00:11:18.100 and over and over again. But there was one that 00:11:18.100 --> 00:11:24.019 did not forget Joseph. And Joseph needed one 00:11:24.019 --> 00:11:30.799 thing. He needed restoration. And he had lost 00:11:30.799 --> 00:11:37.870 everything. But God saw Joseph, and God did not 00:11:37.870 --> 00:11:42.710 forget Joseph. And I want you to know right now, 00:11:42.710 --> 00:11:47.210 in your situation, that nobody else might see, 00:11:47.429 --> 00:11:53.519 but God sees. And God will restore you. I love 00:11:53.519 --> 00:11:58.440 what Peter said in 1 Peter chapter 5. He said, 00:11:58.519 --> 00:12:02.100 and the God of all grace who called you to eternal 00:12:02.100 --> 00:12:06.000 glory in Christ after you have suffered a little 00:12:06.000 --> 00:12:12.200 while will himself restore you and make you strong, 00:12:12.299 --> 00:12:17.159 firm, and steadfast. Hallelujah. That went into 00:12:17.159 --> 00:12:19.480 a couple of you. I want to read it again. And 00:12:19.480 --> 00:12:24.720 the God of all grace, who called you to eternal 00:12:24.720 --> 00:12:29.240 glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little 00:12:29.240 --> 00:12:34.080 while, will himself restore you and make you 00:12:34.080 --> 00:12:39.279 strong. Isn't that Joseph's story? And Joseph, 00:12:39.399 --> 00:12:41.720 if you don't know Joseph's story, you need to 00:12:41.720 --> 00:12:45.440 read about it. He became a slave and he became 00:12:45.440 --> 00:12:50.500 a, it was in an Egyptian prison, which is not 00:12:50.500 --> 00:12:53.500 like, you know, our prisons here, even the ones 00:12:53.500 --> 00:12:57.299 not well taken care of are posh compared to the 00:12:57.299 --> 00:13:01.899 Egyptian prisons. And there he was in the Egyptian 00:13:01.899 --> 00:13:07.840 prison serving faithfully. And God exalted him 00:13:07.840 --> 00:13:14.320 to be the number two ruler of Egypt. I think 00:13:14.320 --> 00:13:17.539 that's restoration, don't you? That's restoration. 00:13:18.539 --> 00:13:24.480 And Paul tells us in 1 Corinthians 13 to strive 00:13:24.480 --> 00:13:32.039 for full. Restoration. Strive for full restoration. 00:13:32.419 --> 00:13:37.539 Let's go to another one. Job. How many of you 00:13:37.539 --> 00:13:42.299 like Job? In my devotional time, I'm in the middle 00:13:42.299 --> 00:13:47.600 of Job right now. And I find myself strangely 00:13:47.600 --> 00:13:53.860 relating with him in my surfacy kind of ways. 00:13:53.919 --> 00:13:58.289 His obviously, the depth of his suffering. I've 00:13:58.289 --> 00:14:03.149 never met anybody that could match. But Job went 00:14:03.149 --> 00:14:05.529 through his trial, not because of his sin, but 00:14:05.529 --> 00:14:08.850 because of his righteousness. He was striving 00:14:08.850 --> 00:14:12.730 to live for God. And the enemy came and accused 00:14:12.730 --> 00:14:17.669 him before God. Or he was talking with God. And 00:14:17.669 --> 00:14:20.330 God said, have you considered my servant Job? 00:14:23.590 --> 00:14:31.409 And Job... went through trial like none other. 00:14:32.929 --> 00:14:37.190 He lost everything that he had spent his lifetime 00:14:37.190 --> 00:14:42.230 building. He lost all of his animals, which was 00:14:42.230 --> 00:14:46.330 the representation of wealth in that day. He 00:14:46.330 --> 00:14:54.629 lost everything. His children, all of them, died. 00:14:55.370 --> 00:15:01.190 In one day. His wealth taken from him. In one 00:15:01.190 --> 00:15:09.269 day. I get thrown off when I have car trouble. 00:15:17.330 --> 00:15:28.429 Job lost everything. And even so, listen to what 00:15:28.429 --> 00:15:31.769 he said. Naked I came from my mother's womb and 00:15:31.769 --> 00:15:35.309 naked I will depart. The Lord gave and the Lord 00:15:35.309 --> 00:15:39.889 has taken away. May the name of the Lord be praised. 00:15:40.830 --> 00:15:44.450 At the end of the day, he had lost his children. 00:15:45.129 --> 00:15:50.149 And he had lost everything that he owned. And 00:15:50.149 --> 00:15:55.070 he rose up in worship and said, God is worthy. 00:15:55.580 --> 00:16:02.820 of my praise. Wow! And so part two happened of 00:16:02.820 --> 00:16:05.759 his suffering and the enemy was allowed to touch 00:16:05.759 --> 00:16:12.679 the health of Job. And he sat on a heap for seven 00:16:12.679 --> 00:16:17.360 days, did not say a word. And then began to dialogue 00:16:17.360 --> 00:16:21.259 with his friends about his suffering. His own 00:16:21.259 --> 00:16:24.120 wife comes to him and says, if you'll just curse 00:16:24.120 --> 00:16:33.799 God, you'll die. And Job needs something in this 00:16:33.799 --> 00:16:43.740 moment. He needs restoration. I want to read 00:16:43.740 --> 00:16:47.970 to you the end of the story. The Lord blessed 00:16:47.970 --> 00:16:50.870 the latter part of Job's life more than the former 00:16:50.870 --> 00:16:55.850 part. He had 14 ,000 sheep, 6 ,000 camels, 1 00:16:55.850 --> 00:17:01.269 ,000 yoke of oxen, and 1 ,000 donkeys. And he 00:17:01.269 --> 00:17:03.970 also had seven sons and three daughters. The 00:17:03.970 --> 00:17:07.650 first daughter he named Jemima, the second Keziah, 00:17:07.710 --> 00:17:12.589 and the third Karen Hapuch. Whatever that means. 00:17:13.009 --> 00:17:16.599 I guess I could find out. Nowhere in all the 00:17:16.599 --> 00:17:20.559 land were there found women as beautiful as Job's 00:17:20.559 --> 00:17:23.259 daughters, and their father granted them an inheritance 00:17:23.259 --> 00:17:27.339 along with their brothers. After this, Job lived 00:17:27.339 --> 00:17:31.259 140 years. He saw his children and their children 00:17:31.259 --> 00:17:35.359 to the fourth generation, and so Job died an 00:17:35.359 --> 00:17:42.900 old man and full of years. Isn't that amazing? 00:17:44.299 --> 00:17:48.200 That's restoration. Here's a third character. 00:17:48.480 --> 00:17:52.180 I'm trying to move through these quickly. Naomi. 00:17:54.680 --> 00:17:59.619 Naomi followed her husband during a drought to 00:17:59.619 --> 00:18:02.319 the land of Moab so that they could survive, 00:18:02.599 --> 00:18:08.200 where her two sons married two Moabite women. 00:18:09.349 --> 00:18:12.450 And while in the land of Moab, her husband passed 00:18:12.450 --> 00:18:16.230 away, her first son passed away, and her second 00:18:16.230 --> 00:18:19.490 son passed away, her first daughter -in -law 00:18:19.490 --> 00:18:25.630 went back to her father's household. Ruth clung 00:18:25.630 --> 00:18:32.609 to her. But in the end, she came back to Bethlehem 00:18:32.609 --> 00:18:40.109 with nothing. And she said this, Don't call me 00:18:40.109 --> 00:18:45.630 Naomi. This is the only person in the Bible that 00:18:45.630 --> 00:18:48.269 gave themselves a new name. That gave themselves 00:18:48.269 --> 00:18:53.750 a new name. Several God gave a new name to. But 00:18:53.750 --> 00:18:57.910 Naomi renamed herself. You know what she renamed 00:18:57.910 --> 00:19:08.190 herself? Mary. Mara. Bitter. That's what it means, 00:19:08.309 --> 00:19:14.009 bitter. Bitter. And she said this, I went away 00:19:14.009 --> 00:19:18.289 full to Moab, but the Lord has brought me back 00:19:18.289 --> 00:19:23.990 empty. Why call me Naomi? The Lord has afflicted 00:19:23.990 --> 00:19:28.970 me. The Almighty has brought misfortune upon 00:19:28.970 --> 00:19:39.759 me. Wow. You know what Naomi needed? Restoration. 00:19:41.200 --> 00:19:46.380 She needed restoration. And I thank God that 00:19:46.380 --> 00:19:51.740 the story does not end there. Amen? Because God 00:19:51.740 --> 00:19:56.839 used her Moabite daughter -in -law, Ruth, through 00:19:56.839 --> 00:20:01.440 a series of miracles and a kinsman redeemer that 00:20:01.440 --> 00:20:05.799 reflects who Jesus is in the New Testament. to 00:20:05.799 --> 00:20:11.740 position Naomi to be the great -grandmother of 00:20:11.740 --> 00:20:23.640 King David. The story is breathtaking. The power 00:20:23.640 --> 00:20:31.759 of God on full display. And she, even more importantly, 00:20:32.099 --> 00:20:38.400 was in the lineage, of the Messiah. And there 00:20:38.400 --> 00:20:42.920 would come another Mary that would give birth 00:20:42.920 --> 00:20:46.960 to a son that would redeem the world. Hallelujah. 00:20:48.180 --> 00:20:52.660 She needed restoration. Now let me quickly share 00:20:52.660 --> 00:20:55.700 some thoughts about restoration from these three 00:20:55.700 --> 00:20:59.880 stories. Number one, being fully restored does 00:20:59.880 --> 00:21:05.299 not mean that you quit suffering loss. Job still 00:21:05.299 --> 00:21:11.440 lost all of his first batch of children. You 00:21:11.440 --> 00:21:15.119 think he didn't miss them? Do you think that 00:21:15.119 --> 00:21:23.220 they were replaced? Naomi still lost her husband 00:21:23.220 --> 00:21:30.519 and her sons. These were the loves of her life. 00:21:33.869 --> 00:21:40.170 But as she embraced restoration, as she embraced 00:21:40.170 --> 00:21:46.490 it, God began to work in her a new thing. God 00:21:46.490 --> 00:21:51.410 worked in Job a new season. Number two, full 00:21:51.410 --> 00:21:55.630 restoration does not mean going back to the life 00:21:55.630 --> 00:21:59.700 that we once had. A lot of times when people 00:21:59.700 --> 00:22:02.400 say, Lord, restore me, what they're really praying 00:22:02.400 --> 00:22:06.440 is, God, give me the life I used to have. But 00:22:06.440 --> 00:22:09.559 God's got a different plan in the restoration. 00:22:10.619 --> 00:22:13.539 And he's not going to do the same thing that 00:22:13.539 --> 00:22:16.500 he did before in your life. Your life is not 00:22:16.500 --> 00:22:20.579 on a loop of repeat. God is going to do a new 00:22:20.579 --> 00:22:35.029 thing. Hallelujah. in your loss, is working in 00:22:35.029 --> 00:22:42.869 your life in ways that you cannot even see. Joseph, 00:22:43.049 --> 00:22:48.670 I know you want to go home and be with your dad 00:22:48.670 --> 00:22:52.349 and your brother Benjamin, but hang in there, 00:22:52.430 --> 00:22:57.910 son. I need you to stay faithful in that prison. 00:22:58.829 --> 00:23:05.390 For one more year. I need somebody. That can 00:23:05.390 --> 00:23:12.910 lead. The nation. Of Egypt. I know you've lost 00:23:12.910 --> 00:23:17.789 a lot Naomi. And I know you blame me. Right now. 00:23:18.970 --> 00:23:23.490 For what you're going through. But Naomi somehow 00:23:23.490 --> 00:23:31.440 keep. Trusting me. Full restoration embraces 00:23:56.329 --> 00:24:01.630 The purposes of God that are operating in the 00:24:01.630 --> 00:24:12.130 background that you cannot see. You do not see 00:24:12.130 --> 00:24:18.430 it, but God is at work. It means saying, God, 00:24:18.630 --> 00:24:23.329 this thing called the kingdom, it is bigger than 00:24:23.329 --> 00:24:31.000 my life. the ones pulling the strings, God. You're 00:24:31.000 --> 00:24:34.720 the one pulling the strings. And I don't see 00:24:34.720 --> 00:24:37.680 it right now, and I don't know it right now, 00:24:37.819 --> 00:24:45.900 but I trust you. Hallelujah. I trust you. Now 00:24:45.900 --> 00:24:49.440 these first three illustrations were illustrations 00:24:49.440 --> 00:24:55.009 where people did not cause their own mess. Joseph 00:24:55.009 --> 00:24:59.130 was sold into slavery by his brothers. Naomi 00:24:59.130 --> 00:25:05.690 was the product of just tragic tragedy all around 00:25:05.690 --> 00:25:10.049 her. A famine in the land and sickness coming 00:25:10.049 --> 00:25:14.910 to her household. I want to talk about one now 00:25:14.910 --> 00:25:24.710 that caused his own downfall. Samson. Samson 00:25:24.710 --> 00:25:30.069 lost everything because of his own personal compromise. 00:25:31.670 --> 00:25:36.470 He was full of lust and disobedience to God's 00:25:36.470 --> 00:25:43.269 Spirit. He was unfaithful to God's calling. And 00:25:43.269 --> 00:25:47.390 the Spirit of God ended up leaving him because 00:25:47.390 --> 00:25:55.319 he refused integrity. He was selfish and sinful. 00:25:56.160 --> 00:26:00.140 And his life ended up in a Philistine prison 00:26:00.140 --> 00:26:06.759 with his eyes gouged out. And it was his own 00:26:06.759 --> 00:26:21.539 fault. I want to tell you that you might be living, 00:26:23.279 --> 00:26:31.259 In the fruit of your own failure. But even then, 00:26:31.259 --> 00:26:37.720 can I tell you that God is a restorer. Listen 00:26:37.720 --> 00:26:40.920 to what the Bible says about Samson. Y 'all, 00:26:41.000 --> 00:26:43.420 if you read the story of Samson, you realize 00:26:43.420 --> 00:26:47.440 that his hair was significant. He had taken a 00:26:47.440 --> 00:26:50.099 Nazarite vow, which means he would never cut 00:26:50.099 --> 00:26:55.579 his hair. And when his hair was cut, that was 00:26:55.579 --> 00:26:58.480 the last straw of disobedience. The Spirit of 00:26:58.480 --> 00:27:02.900 God left him. But listen to this in Judges 16 00:27:02.900 --> 00:27:10.819 .22. But the hair on his head began to grow again 00:27:10.819 --> 00:27:17.420 after it had been shaved. Can I tell you that 00:27:17.420 --> 00:27:21.200 it's not hair that God was concerned about? But 00:27:21.200 --> 00:27:28.420 Samson's heart changed and he repented. And I 00:27:28.420 --> 00:27:31.740 want to read the story.
