It's very interesting because Hosea is 00:06:33.040 --> 00:06:37.620 very clearly talking about Israel. He's talking 00:06:37.620 --> 00:06:42.800 about the first time Israel was called out of 00:06:42.800 --> 00:06:47.399 Egypt. And he looked at his son, Israel. God raised up Joseph from Potiphar's 00:08:04.790 --> 00:08:09.759 household. where he was a slave, to the prison 00:08:09.759 --> 00:08:15.439 where he was suffering the bread of, what do 00:08:15.439 --> 00:08:18.740 they call that, the bread of affliction, the 00:08:18.740 --> 00:08:23.660 bread of affliction. And so Hosea is remembering 00:10:12.480 --> 00:10:18.379 this Moses that was raised up, and through a 00:10:18.379 --> 00:10:22.159 whole set of other series of circumstances, this 00:10:22.159 --> 00:10:25.960 Moses that was saved from the death of the newborn 00:10:25.960 --> 00:10:35.700 males, became the deliverer for Egypt. And he 00:10:35.700 --> 00:10:39.799 went back and confronted Pharaoh, who was really 00:10:39.799 --> 00:10:50.220 his brother, confronted Pharaoh, and God, through 00:10:50.220 --> 00:10:56.129 ten miracles, pulled... Israel out of Egypt, 00:10:56.210 --> 00:11:02.909 the last being the Passover, where lambs were 00:11:02.909 --> 00:11:08.190 slain, the blood was put on the doorpost, the 00:11:08.190 --> 00:11:10.889 death angel came, and wherever the blood was 00:11:10.889 --> 00:11:15.649 not, the firstborn males, whether Egypt or Israel, 00:11:15.789 --> 00:11:18.610 all of Israel had blood on their doorposts, so 00:11:18.610 --> 00:11:22.190 all the firstborn males of Egypt were killed. 00:11:22.960 --> 00:11:27.340 And Pharaoh finally said, you can go. And Hosea 00:11:38.570 --> 00:11:41.590 is remembering this phenomenon. And you remember 00:11:41.590 --> 00:11:44.269 the parting of the Red Sea. And you remember 00:11:44.269 --> 00:11:48.090 them walking across on dry ground and getting 00:11:48.090 --> 00:11:51.090 to the other side. And then Pharaoh hardens his 00:11:51.090 --> 00:11:54.409 heart again and changes his mind and sends his 00:11:54.409 --> 00:11:58.570 armies after Israel. God holds the armies back 00:11:58.570 --> 00:12:01.710 with a pillar of fire until the Israelites were 00:12:01.710 --> 00:12:05.029 all the way across. And then he lifted that pillar 00:12:05.029 --> 00:12:08.509 of fire and Pharaoh's army. rushed in after them 00:12:08.509 --> 00:12:13.330 and God swallowed up the entire Egyptian army 00:12:13.330 --> 00:12:21.730 into the sea. Praise God. And Hosea is remembering 00:12:21.730 --> 00:12:28.769 this. It was out of Egypt that I called my son. 00:12:30.129 --> 00:12:35.509 My son. This is important. This is not in my 00:12:35.509 --> 00:12:38.490 notes, but Some of you have sons and daughters 00:12:38.490 --> 00:12:42.269 that are in Egypt right now. Being called by an 00:13:07.399 --> 00:13:17.240 angel in a dream to flee to Egypt. And this is 00:13:17.240 --> 00:13:23.159 our passage where we talk about peace. Because 00:13:23.159 --> 00:13:29.120 Matthew, by the Holy Spirit, says this passage 00:13:29.120 --> 00:13:34.220 was not only about Israel. This passage was about 00:13:34.220 --> 00:13:43.179 the Messiah. Not my son with a little S, but 00:13:43.179 --> 00:13:50.299 my son with a big S. Out of Egypt, I called my 00:13:50.299 --> 00:13:59.019 son. And Joseph fled to Egypt immediately at 00:13:59.019 --> 00:14:03.230 the leaning of the Holy Spirit. as directed by 00:14:03.230 --> 00:14:08.269 a dream. He immediately arises, wakes up his 00:14:08.269 --> 00:14:11.690 wife, bundles up the child, packs a few things, 00:14:11.750 --> 00:14:17.049 I'm sure, and heads to the land of Egypt. He 00:14:17.049 --> 00:14:21.070 didn't know why. He just knew that God had spoken 00:14:21.070 --> 00:14:28.990 to him and that he should obey and do it. The 00:14:28.990 --> 00:14:36.039 next... Moment! Herod issues an edict, finding 00:14:36.039 --> 00:14:39.639 out from the wise men where they worshipped the 00:14:39.639 --> 00:14:45.120 King of kings and the Lord of lords. And he had 00:14:45.120 --> 00:14:54.240 all the children in Bethlehem slaughtered. But 00:14:54.240 --> 00:15:04.789 because Joseph listened, Jesus is spared. I believe 00:15:04.789 --> 00:15:13.710 that Joseph was a man of peace. I believe that 00:15:13.710 --> 00:15:17.490 before he ever had the dream, before he ever 00:15:17.490 --> 00:15:23.809 met the angel, we see signs that he was a man 00:15:23.809 --> 00:15:27.169 of peace. Remember when he first found out that 00:15:27.169 --> 00:15:30.190 Mary was pregnant? And Mary said, it's by the 00:15:30.190 --> 00:15:37.669 Holy Spirit. Well, Joseph was a godly man, but 00:15:37.669 --> 00:15:45.889 he was also a thinking man. My fiance, my betrothed, 00:15:45.889 --> 00:15:54.110 is pregnant. And she tells me this story. And 00:15:54.110 --> 00:15:59.049 he's a thinking man. And he understands some 00:15:59.049 --> 00:16:05.419 things. And at first, he's not sure. If he believes 00:16:05.419 --> 00:16:10.179 her, this is all going to get out. And she could 00:16:10.179 --> 00:16:17.240 be stoned because of her being pregnant outside 00:16:17.240 --> 00:16:22.820 of marriage. She could be stoned, but guess what 00:16:22.820 --> 00:16:26.379 Joseph was? He was a man of peace. And he said, 00:16:26.519 --> 00:16:31.460 no, I'm going to divorce her quietly. We're going 00:16:31.460 --> 00:16:34.360 to do this under the table. We're going to get 00:16:34.360 --> 00:16:37.759 her out of the city. She's going to go somewhere 00:16:37.759 --> 00:16:42.639 where she can have her baby and not suffer the 00:16:42.639 --> 00:16:47.419 shame that could come upon her. He was a man 00:16:47.419 --> 00:16:56.860 of peace. We see that Joseph was chosen by the 00:16:56.860 --> 00:17:02.080 Lord because of his character to father the Son 00:17:02.080 --> 00:17:10.150 of God. Jesus. And I just want to quickly share 00:17:10.150 --> 00:17:12.349 three things that I believe that were a part 00:17:12.349 --> 00:17:16.930 of Joseph's life that helped them navigate. Because 00:17:16.930 --> 00:17:24.410 we have people from Bethlehem fleeing to Egypt, 00:17:24.470 --> 00:17:35.930 and Joseph needed to be led by the peace of God. 00:17:36.650 --> 00:17:39.529 And so how was it that Joseph was led by the 00:17:39.529 --> 00:17:43.769 peace of God? Number one, Joseph cooperated with 00:17:43.769 --> 00:17:47.849 the Holy Spirit. So many want peace in their 00:17:47.849 --> 00:17:52.150 lives, but they don't want to cooperate with 00:17:52.150 --> 00:17:57.869 the command of God. Look at this crazy world 00:17:57.869 --> 00:18:02.440 in which we live. Do you know how much Chaos 00:18:02.440 --> 00:18:05.400 comes because people do not follow the command 00:18:05.400 --> 00:18:11.420 of God. Lots and lots and lots of chaos out there. 00:18:11.480 --> 00:18:13.579 Have you noticed that there's chaos in the world, 00:18:13.660 --> 00:18:17.740 friends? Shake your head at me if you've noticed 00:18:17.740 --> 00:18:21.619 that there's chaos in the world. There's chaos 00:18:21.619 --> 00:18:24.920 in the world because we ignore the command of 00:18:24.920 --> 00:18:31.150 God. Listen to this. If one generation If one 00:18:31.150 --> 00:18:37.849 generation would follow the Word of God with 00:18:37.849 --> 00:18:42.690 regard to sexual activity, every single venereal 00:18:42.690 --> 00:18:46.950 disease would be wiped out. Every single one 00:18:46.950 --> 00:18:51.329 of them. But there's chaos in the world because 00:18:51.329 --> 00:18:56.509 we ignore the command of God. Peace comes when 00:18:56.509 --> 00:19:01.630 we follow Him. We want peace in our lives without 00:19:01.630 --> 00:19:04.890 cooperating with the Holy Spirit. As soon as 00:19:04.890 --> 00:19:08.589 the Holy Spirit spoke, Joseph said, here we go. 00:19:09.029 --> 00:19:15.829 And away he went. Psalm 119, 165 says this, Great 00:19:15.829 --> 00:19:20.710 peace have those who love your law, and nothing 00:19:20.710 --> 00:19:24.710 causes them to stumble. Isn't that a picture 00:19:24.710 --> 00:19:30.400 of Joseph? He loved the command of God. And how 00:19:30.400 --> 00:19:33.799 do we know he loved it? Because he followed it. 00:19:34.759 --> 00:19:39.799 Amen? And when you follow the command of God 00:19:39.799 --> 00:19:45.640 for your life, you have great peace. These are 00:19:45.640 --> 00:19:50.759 keys. Proverbs 3, 1 and 2 says this.
