We're going to see the Passover take place. 00:01:47.959 --> 00:01:50.640 We talk a lot about the Passover in the New Testament, 00:01:50.760 --> 00:01:53.840 whenever Jesus was taking Passover with his disciples, 00:01:53.980 --> 00:01:57.299 how this is a long -standing festival that was 00:01:57.299 --> 00:01:59.950 going on. that they had instituted. This is where 00:01:59.950 --> 00:02:02.209 it gets instituted in Exodus 12. I want to give 00:02:02.209 --> 00:02:04.209 us a little bit of a background before we continue 00:02:04.209 --> 00:02:06.250 into this Easter season that we're walking into 00:02:06.250 --> 00:02:09.490 as a church family and as just believers getting 00:02:09.490 --> 00:02:11.729 ready for Easter whenever it's coming up. But 00:02:11.729 --> 00:02:14.349 in Exodus 12, there's a lot happening. Israel 00:02:14.349 --> 00:02:17.830 is in slavery. They're in bondage in Egypt. While 00:02:17.830 --> 00:02:19.990 they're in Egypt, they're trying to get out. 00:02:20.050 --> 00:02:22.229 Moses keeps going to Pharaoh and he keeps saying, 00:02:22.349 --> 00:02:24.229 no, you can't leave. You can't leave. Plagues 00:02:24.229 --> 00:02:27.909 come on them. A lot happens in the first 11 chapters. 00:02:27.949 --> 00:02:31.050 of Exodus, and what we find in chapter 12 is 00:02:31.050 --> 00:02:32.990 this is the moment that they're about to be released. 00:02:33.169 --> 00:02:35.689 They're about to be freed from the slavery and 00:02:35.689 --> 00:02:37.930 the bondage that they're in. There's a lot that 00:02:37.930 --> 00:02:40.009 happens in Exodus 12. I know it's a long chapter. 00:02:40.150 --> 00:02:43.669 I encourage you today to read it with clear eyes 00:02:43.669 --> 00:02:46.849 and read it slowly. Let it kind of soak in. It 00:02:46.849 --> 00:02:49.430 begins with God speaking to Moses and Aaron, 00:02:49.530 --> 00:02:52.550 explaining the Passover, then Moses and Aaron 00:02:52.550 --> 00:02:56.330 telling the people of Israel how to do it, how 00:02:56.330 --> 00:02:59.379 to Each household needs to find a lamb. They 00:02:59.379 --> 00:03:02.080 need to take the lamb. Then they need to kill 00:03:02.080 --> 00:03:04.699 the lamb. Then they need to take and dip this 00:03:04.699 --> 00:03:07.080 hyssop down into the blood of the lamb and put 00:03:07.080 --> 00:03:09.740 the blood of the lamb on the doorpost and on 00:03:09.740 --> 00:03:12.280 the lentils. So I want to read a couple of verses 00:03:12.280 --> 00:03:15.400 for us here today. And so I want to begin reading 00:03:15.400 --> 00:03:18.060 in verse number 12 of chapter 12. So here's what 00:03:18.060 --> 00:03:22.270 the Bible says. In Exodus 12 at verse 12 and 00:03:22.270 --> 00:03:25.229 13, For I will pass through the land of Egypt 00:03:25.229 --> 00:03:27.830 that night, and I will strike all the firstborn 00:03:27.830 --> 00:03:31.069 in the land of Egypt, both man and beast, and 00:03:31.069 --> 00:03:34.210 on all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgments. 00:03:34.490 --> 00:03:38.090 I am the Lord. The blood shall be a sign for 00:03:38.090 --> 00:03:41.229 you on your houses where you are, and when I 00:03:41.229 --> 00:03:44.069 see the blood I will pass over you, and no plague 00:03:44.069 --> 00:03:46.889 will befall you to destroy you when I strike 00:03:46.889 --> 00:03:51.060 the land of Egypt. As I read the entire chapter 00:03:51.060 --> 00:03:53.560 and specifically those two verses kind of give 00:03:53.560 --> 00:03:56.379 us a little bit of a sum up right there in the 00:03:56.379 --> 00:03:58.860 middle. There's a lot that happens in Exodus 00:03:58.860 --> 00:04:01.219 12. It is terrifying. This is not a sentimental 00:04:01.219 --> 00:04:04.520 thing. We think about whenever we have a dinner 00:04:04.520 --> 00:04:07.139 or we have a moment or even thinking about the 00:04:07.139 --> 00:04:08.819 Passover, we think, oh, it's a great time for 00:04:08.819 --> 00:04:12.400 family to get around and walk through this process 00:04:12.400 --> 00:04:15.479 together. And it's so sentimental. It gives us 00:04:15.479 --> 00:04:17.839 this moment of remembrance. This is terrifying. 00:04:18.950 --> 00:04:20.889 terrifying. I want you to think about the amount 00:04:20.889 --> 00:04:24.269 of horror that is going on in this moment. God 00:04:24.269 --> 00:04:26.529 tells the people and tells Moses and Aaron, they 00:04:26.529 --> 00:04:27.949 tell the people, listen, what's going to happen 00:04:27.949 --> 00:04:29.689 is you're going to take a lamb that's done nothing 00:04:29.689 --> 00:04:32.149 wrong. You're going to kill it. And then you're 00:04:32.149 --> 00:04:33.290 going to take its blood and you're going to put 00:04:33.290 --> 00:04:35.589 it over your doors and over your homes. And then 00:04:35.589 --> 00:04:37.009 what's going to happen is God's going to come 00:04:37.009 --> 00:04:40.759 over and he's going to execute judgment. I looked 00:04:40.759 --> 00:04:42.620 through this text over and over again. I thought, 00:04:42.660 --> 00:04:45.040 what is it that stands out? This is a text that 00:04:45.040 --> 00:04:47.339 we've heard and we've known for a long time. 00:04:47.399 --> 00:04:50.879 But ultimately, the question that I kind of came 00:04:50.879 --> 00:04:54.459 up with, the question is not, is God going to 00:04:54.459 --> 00:04:57.740 judge? The question is, are you covered? That's 00:04:57.740 --> 00:05:00.199 the question. As I read over and over and over 00:05:00.199 --> 00:05:02.480 again through every little passage in here, every 00:05:02.480 --> 00:05:04.540 paragraph, I began to ask the question. It's 00:05:04.540 --> 00:05:07.699 not a question of will God judge. It's are we 00:05:07.699 --> 00:05:10.879 covered while he judges? He's going to judge. 00:05:11.060 --> 00:05:13.560 I looked over and over again. His wrath is so 00:05:13.560 --> 00:05:17.759 precise, so precise. Again, in verse 12, it says, 00:05:17.860 --> 00:05:19.399 I will pass through the land of Egypt that night 00:05:19.399 --> 00:05:22.060 and strike all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, 00:05:22.079 --> 00:05:25.040 both man and beast, on the gods of Egypt. I will 00:05:25.040 --> 00:05:28.480 execute judgment. I am. The Lord, I will pass 00:05:28.480 --> 00:05:31.660 through. I will strike. I will execute judgment. 00:05:31.920 --> 00:05:34.740 It is precise. There's no doubt about it. He's 00:05:34.740 --> 00:05:37.740 going to do it exactly like he says he's going 00:05:37.740 --> 00:05:41.699 to do it. This is not one of the judgments. You 00:05:41.699 --> 00:05:44.120 go back and look at the other judgments that 00:05:44.120 --> 00:05:46.680 came and the other plagues that showed up. Some 00:05:46.680 --> 00:05:49.060 of them were natural disasters. Some of them 00:05:49.060 --> 00:05:52.620 were insects. Some of them were different things 00:05:52.620 --> 00:05:55.100 that went on that could sort of be explained, 00:05:55.259 --> 00:05:58.000 maybe not exactly, but you could almost stretch 00:05:58.000 --> 00:06:00.319 a little bit. This is a natural disaster. It's 00:06:00.319 --> 00:06:04.439 something that is unlikely, but we see that these 00:06:04.439 --> 00:06:06.459 animals probably all came from one place or whatever 00:06:06.459 --> 00:06:09.569 it may be. This is not... a natural disaster 00:06:09.569 --> 00:06:13.529 or a natural cause. This isn't just bad luck 00:06:13.529 --> 00:06:15.629 showing up. It's not like, oh, there's a sickness 00:06:15.629 --> 00:06:17.850 that's come in. So the sickness has brought in 00:06:17.850 --> 00:06:21.949 all this. This is God doing this. It's God working. 00:06:22.399 --> 00:06:24.759 It's him saying, I will execute judgment. I'm 00:06:24.759 --> 00:06:26.480 going to come in and this is what's going to 00:06:26.480 --> 00:06:31.480 happen. He names himself as the judge that comes 00:06:31.480 --> 00:06:33.600 in and does this. There's no question. He names 00:06:33.600 --> 00:06:36.879 himself as the judge who comes in to take matters 00:06:36.879 --> 00:06:41.100 into his own hands. And Egypt, even Egypt's gods 00:06:41.100 --> 00:06:43.720 are judged. Everything about it is judged. This 00:06:43.720 --> 00:06:48.680 is our God, Yahweh's supremacy over... everything 00:06:48.680 --> 00:06:51.379 that's happening. This is a powerful verse. It's 00:06:51.379 --> 00:06:53.579 not just a, oh, let's remember back to the time 00:06:53.579 --> 00:06:56.040 of the Passover. How sweet, how nice. This is 00:06:56.040 --> 00:06:59.420 God acting in a way that we have to take a step 00:06:59.420 --> 00:07:02.379 back and say, if we don't have the blood of the 00:07:02.379 --> 00:07:05.939 Lamb covering us, we are doomed. We're doomed. 00:07:08.480 --> 00:07:11.019 thinking about what our generation, what the 00:07:11.019 --> 00:07:13.939 people in our world need today. And I thought 00:07:13.939 --> 00:07:16.040 about what's the greatest need. And I began to, 00:07:16.060 --> 00:07:18.139 I asked somebody the other day, I said, what's 00:07:18.139 --> 00:07:22.399 the biggest need in our generation, in our culture 00:07:22.399 --> 00:07:24.660 today? And there was a few people that started 00:07:24.660 --> 00:07:26.519 sharing things, you know, mental health is a 00:07:26.519 --> 00:07:30.160 big need in our culture and stress and anxiety, 00:07:30.259 --> 00:07:33.879 money and finances in general and different, 00:07:33.939 --> 00:07:36.439 just all kinds of health and everything, right? 00:07:36.560 --> 00:07:38.680 There's so many. problems. We can look around 00:07:38.680 --> 00:07:40.540 and see problem after problem after problem, 00:07:40.600 --> 00:07:42.779 and they are all problems, I will say. I agree 00:07:42.779 --> 00:07:45.040 every one of those are issues, and we need to 00:07:45.040 --> 00:07:48.519 deal with those issues. But the biggest problem 00:07:48.519 --> 00:07:53.439 in our generation, the biggest issue, is that 00:07:53.439 --> 00:07:56.899 God is holy and we are not. That's the biggest 00:07:56.899 --> 00:07:59.160 issue. The biggest issue that we will ever face. 00:07:59.259 --> 00:08:01.600 Don't think it's just natural disasters or sickness 00:08:01.600 --> 00:08:05.060 or some kind of bad luck will strike us. It is 00:08:05.060 --> 00:08:09.759 God who is holy. He is holy, and the problem 00:08:09.759 --> 00:08:12.500 is we're not ready to meet him. That's the problem. 00:08:13.079 --> 00:08:15.819 That's the generational issue and problem. Now, 00:08:15.839 --> 00:08:17.680 I'm not saying that you that is listening today 00:08:17.680 --> 00:08:20.160 or me or whatever is not ready to meet the Lord. 00:08:20.220 --> 00:08:21.959 I would love for the Lord to come back. A few 00:08:21.959 --> 00:08:24.120 things I still want to get aligned in my life, 00:08:24.240 --> 00:08:27.600 right? Still want to grow toward holiness in 00:08:27.600 --> 00:08:30.560 a more purifying way. But ultimately, our biggest 00:08:30.560 --> 00:08:33.299 problem in the world is not all of these little 00:08:33.299 --> 00:08:35.600 symptoms everywhere. It's that God's holy, and 00:08:35.600 --> 00:08:38.100 we're not ready to meet him. That's the big problem. 00:08:38.220 --> 00:08:40.080 So how do we get people ready to meet him, right? 00:08:40.220 --> 00:08:43.759 Here we go. Let's keep going in. Again, the question 00:08:43.759 --> 00:08:46.279 is not, will God judge? The question is, are 00:08:46.279 --> 00:08:50.559 we covered? That is the question. The blood is 00:08:50.559 --> 00:08:57.340 not symbolic emotion. The blood is substitution. 00:08:58.139 --> 00:09:00.259 That's what the blood is. Verse 13, again, the 00:09:00.259 --> 00:09:02.909 blood shall be a sign for you. on the houses 00:09:02.909 --> 00:09:05.429 where you are. And when I see the blood, I will 00:09:05.429 --> 00:09:08.870 pass over. He says, the blood is the substitute. 00:09:09.269 --> 00:09:12.110 The blood is the substitute. And I think about 00:09:12.110 --> 00:09:17.169 that. It's not God overlooking sin. You realize 00:09:17.169 --> 00:09:19.549 that, right? It's not God saying, I won't look 00:09:19.549 --> 00:09:22.730 at your sin. I won't judge your sin. Your sin 00:09:22.730 --> 00:09:25.529 no longer doesn't matter. That's not what God's 00:09:25.529 --> 00:09:28.070 saying. He's not overlooking sin. Instead, he's 00:09:28.070 --> 00:09:30.889 realizing, he's seeing that death has already 00:09:30.889 --> 00:09:34.750 occurred in this house. Death has already occurred 00:09:34.750 --> 00:09:38.850 in this house so I can pass over. He's still 00:09:38.850 --> 00:09:40.909 pouring his wrath out. He's still pouring his 00:09:40.909 --> 00:09:43.539 judgment out. It just doesn't need to fall on 00:09:43.539 --> 00:09:46.620 you because there's been something or someone 00:09:46.620 --> 00:09:50.000 that has substituted themselves and now their 00:09:50.000 --> 00:09:53.740 blood was shed. Again, how we don't picture this 00:09:53.740 --> 00:09:56.019 to Christ and just see all this every single 00:09:56.019 --> 00:09:58.019 moment that we read it, I don't know what our 00:09:58.019 --> 00:10:00.980 problem is. I want to share one more thought 00:10:00.980 --> 00:10:04.620 in all of this process. If we're not careful, 00:10:04.840 --> 00:10:08.700 what we'll say is Israel had the benefit because 00:10:08.700 --> 00:10:11.590 they were better than Egypt. Or the Israelites 00:10:11.590 --> 00:10:14.789 were better than the Egyptians, so God gave them 00:10:14.789 --> 00:10:18.490 a way out. That's not the case. I want to read 00:10:18.490 --> 00:10:21.269 just a couple more verses, verses 22 and 23, 00:10:21.409 --> 00:10:25.129 or 21, 22, 23. Here's what happens. Moses called 00:10:25.129 --> 00:10:27.769 all the elders of Israel and said to them, Go 00:10:27.769 --> 00:10:30.629 select lambs for yourselves according to your 00:10:30.629 --> 00:10:33.590 clans and kill the Passover lamb. Take a bunch 00:10:33.590 --> 00:10:36.610 of hyssop and dip it in the blood that is in 00:10:36.610 --> 00:10:51.919 the basin. And when he sees the blood on the 00:10:51.919 --> 00:10:54.440 lentil and the two doorposts, the Lord will pass 00:10:54.440 --> 00:10:57.879 over the door and will not allow the destroyer 00:10:57.879 --> 00:11:03.409 to enter your houses to strike you. read that 00:11:03.409 --> 00:11:06.850 and I think, oh, he hated the Egyptians and he 00:11:06.850 --> 00:11:09.950 loved Israel. And then I realized something. 00:11:10.269 --> 00:11:14.769 If an Israelite did not follow through and put 00:11:14.769 --> 00:11:17.950 the substitutionary blood on the doorpost and 00:11:17.950 --> 00:11:21.269 the lintel or the top of the door all the way 00:11:21.269 --> 00:11:24.190 around the door, right? If an Israelite didn't 00:11:24.190 --> 00:11:27.590 do that, God would allow the destroyer to go 00:11:27.590 --> 00:11:30.870 into that house. You had to be covered. It's 00:11:30.870 --> 00:11:33.470 not if God is going to judge, it's if we are 00:11:33.470 --> 00:11:35.490 covered. That's the question. That's what we 00:11:35.490 --> 00:11:38.049 got to know in our own lives. Are you covered 00:11:38.049 --> 00:11:44.509 by the blood? The blood must absolutely be applied. 00:11:45.110 --> 00:11:49.149 It had to be applied in order for the Lord to 00:11:49.149 --> 00:11:54.149 pass over that house. I'm just asking you in 00:11:54.149 --> 00:11:57.990 your life today, has it been applied in your 00:11:57.990 --> 00:12:01.370 life? I hope and pray it has. I hope and pray 00:12:01.370 --> 00:12:04.870 it's been a part of you for a long time. Here's 00:12:04.870 --> 00:12:07.889 what I know. There's some actionable steps that 00:12:07.889 --> 00:12:10.389 the Israelites had to take. They had to take 00:12:10.389 --> 00:12:13.809 the lamb. They had to kill the lamb. They had 00:12:13.809 --> 00:12:19.590 to apply the blood of the lamb. They had to do 00:12:19.590 --> 00:12:24.730 this in an actionable phase. They couldn't just 00:12:24.730 --> 00:12:29.460 believe in it. They had to do something. They 00:12:29.460 --> 00:12:32.419 couldn't just agree with the doctrine, right? 00:12:32.519 --> 00:12:35.100 They had to do something about the doctrine. 00:12:35.279 --> 00:12:39.659 They had to do something about the truth. In 00:12:39.659 --> 00:12:42.740 our life today, here's the mercy challenge that 00:12:42.740 --> 00:12:48.820 I got today. Am I doing anything about this blood 00:12:48.820 --> 00:12:51.700 that is applied? Am I doing anything about it? 00:12:52.000 --> 00:12:54.840 Or am I just saying I believe in that doctrine? 00:12:54.940 --> 00:12:58.759 I think we get sometimes confused and think that 00:12:58.759 --> 00:13:00.779 the more we know about the story, the better 00:13:00.779 --> 00:13:03.779 we are. But I will say, you know, in the end, 00:13:03.879 --> 00:13:07.740 Jesus even points to this. It's not well thought, 00:13:07.879 --> 00:13:10.620 good and faithful servant. It's not well planned, 00:13:10.779 --> 00:13:12.960 good and faithful servant. It's not well believed, 00:13:13.179 --> 00:13:16.440 good and faithful servant. It's well done, good 00:13:16.440 --> 00:13:18.649 and faithful servant. As I look through this 00:13:18.649 --> 00:13:20.590 whole chapter, here's what I realized. The only 00:13:20.590 --> 00:13:24.090 thing that makes you safe is the appearance of 00:13:24.090 --> 00:13:27.490 the blood of the lamb. That's it. That's the 00:13:27.490 --> 00:13:29.889 only thing. It's the covering of the blood. Are 00:13:29.889 --> 00:13:35.679 you found under the blood or not? No matter what 00:13:35.679 --> 00:13:39.000 you do today, I hope and pray you live like you 00:13:39.000 --> 00:13:41.379 are under the blood. Because here's what happens. 00:13:41.539 --> 00:13:45.019 As soon as the blood is applied and God passes 00:13:45.019 --> 00:13:48.159 over, and again, remember this, He's not passing 00:13:48.159 --> 00:13:50.340 over your opinions. He's not passing over what 00:13:50.340 --> 00:13:52.440 you think. He's not passing over a doctrine. 00:13:52.559 --> 00:13:56.690 He's passing over the actionable step of... Putting 00:13:56.690 --> 00:13:59.330 yourself under the blood of the Lamb. That's 00:13:59.330 --> 00:14:01.129 what he's passing over. There has been death 00:14:01.129 --> 00:14:03.710 here that's happened. A substitute has taken 00:14:03.710 --> 00:14:06.789 this place, so I'm not going to bring my wrath 00:14:06.789 --> 00:14:08.730 and judgment on them. That's what we experience 00:14:08.730 --> 00:14:10.990 as Christians, as believers today. I am found 00:14:10.990 --> 00:14:13.289 under the blood of the Lamb of Jesus Christ, 00:14:13.429 --> 00:14:16.509 and God is not going to put his wrath on me in 00:14:16.509 --> 00:14:19.450 the end. His wrath was put out on Jesus. He was 00:14:19.450 --> 00:14:23.750 my substitute. Now, as God passes over and now 00:14:23.750 --> 00:14:25.750 the Israelites are freed, guess what? They get 00:14:25.750 --> 00:14:28.669 sent out of slavery. They're no longer slaves 00:14:28.669 --> 00:14:32.230 to Egypt anymore. You know, Egypt is a picture 00:14:32.230 --> 00:14:35.250 of the world. Can I tell you something? Once 00:14:35.250 --> 00:14:37.289 we are found under the blood of the Lamb, we're 00:14:37.289 --> 00:14:40.250 no longer slaves to the world anymore. We're 00:14:40.250 --> 00:14:43.240 freed. We get to go and experience God. Then 00:14:43.240 --> 00:14:45.220 as they walk out into the wilderness, they get 00:14:45.220 --> 00:14:47.559 to experience God in new ways. His presence is 00:14:47.559 --> 00:14:50.500 around them. It's all they focus on. He then 00:14:50.500 --> 00:14:52.600 gives them some law.
